Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt attends ASEAN Summits
YANGON, 11 Oct-Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar General Khin Nyunt attended the Summit of ASEAN Heads of State/Government and the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China at the Nusantara Hall-1 of Bali International Convention Centre in Bali, the Republic of Indonesia at 8.30 am on 8 October.
Also present on the occasion were His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam, Prime Minister of Cambodia Mr Sandech Hun Sen, President of the Republic of Indonesia Madame Megawati Soekarnoputri, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Buongnang Vorachith, Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, President of the Republic of Philippines Madame Gloria Magapagal Arroyo, Prime Minister of Singapore Mr Goh Chok Tong, Prime Minister of Thailand Dr Thaksin Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr Phan Van Khai and Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China Mr Wen Jiabao.
Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Soe Win, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and deputy ministers, ministers of the ASEAN nations and the PRC, and deputy ministers, the Secretary-General of ASEAN were at Nusantara Hall-2 while the Summit was taking place.
Next, the ceremony to sign the Accession of the People's Republic of China to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) in Southeast Asia took place at the Auditorium. Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, the Foreign Affairs ministers of ASEAN nations and the PRC signed the documents.
Afterwards, Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt, the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and the PRC Prime Minister signed the Joint Declaration of the HOS/G of the Member States of ASEAN and the People's Republic of China on Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity.
Next, the Summit of the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and the Prime Minister of Japan was held at the Nusantara Hall-1, attended by the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and Japanese Prime Minister Mr Jurichiro Koizumi.
Next, the ceremony to sign the Framework for Comprehensive Economic Partnership Between ASEAN and Japan was held at the Auditorium. Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt, the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and Prime Minister of Japan Mr Jurichiro Koizumi signed the documents.
After that, the working lunch for the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and the Indian Prime Minister was hosted at the Nusantara Hall-3. Present on the occasion were Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt, the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and Prime Minister of India Mr Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee.
Next, the Summit of the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and the President of the Republic of Korea was held at the Nusantara Hall-1 at 2.30 pm. It was attended by Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt, the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and President of ROK Mr Roh Moo-hyun.
Next, the Summit of the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and the Indian Prime Minister took place at the Nusantara Hall-1, attended by the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and Prime Minister of India Mr Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee.
Afterwards, the ceremony to sign the Accession of the Republic of India to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) was held at the Auditorium. Foreign Affairs Minister U Win Aung and the Foreign Affairs Ministers of the ASEAN nations and India signed the document.

Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt calls on Indonesian President
YANGON, 11 Oct - Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar General Khin Nyunt called on President of the Republic of Indonesia Madame Megawati Soekarnoputri at Bougain Ville Room of the Bali International Convention Centre in Bali, Indonesia, at 8 pm on 8 October.
Present on the occasion together with Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt were Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Soe Win, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and U Kyaw Thu, Myanmar Ambassador to Indonesia U Kyaw Myint and Director General U Thaung Tun of the Political Affairs Department, and together with the Indonesian President were Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Dr N Hassan Wirajuda, Coordination Minister for Economic Affairs Mr Yusuf Kalla, Minister for Transport Mr Agum Gumela, and senior officials.
At the meeting, the Indonesian President said that she was glad to meet with Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt. She recounted the pleasantness and cleanliness of Yangon and preservation of cultural heritage she witnessed during her visit to Myanmar, adding that she was also briefed on plans for development of Myanmar by Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe. She expressed her hope that Myanmar would develop speedily and her wish to promote the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt said the two countries have been nurturing and practising a firm relations based on mutual friendship and understanding since the time of the independence struggles in the two countries. He expressed wishes to further strengthen the friendship based on fine traditions, adding that the two countries should exchange delegations to further promote the economic cooperation. Myanmar is anxious to welcome high level delegations and economic delegations of Indonesia, and Myanmar will also send delegations to Indonesia, he said. He also expressed his belief that mutual promotion of economic cooperation in the private sector will contribute to the interests of both countries.
Afterwards, Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt presented a souvenir to the Indonesian President.

Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt holds discussions with Heads of State/ Government of ASEAN nations
YANGON, 11 Oct - Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt of the Union of Myanmar together with Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Soe Win and members arrived Ngurah Rai International Airport via Bali Hilton International Hotel where they were putting up on their departure for home.
Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt took the salute of the guard of honour there.
Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt cordially greeted Myanmar ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia U Kyaw Myint and embassy staff, Indonesian Transportation Minister Mr Agum Gumela, Indonesian ambassador to Myanmar Mr Wyoso Prodijowarsito and members.
Next, Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt and party left Bali by special flight at 10 am Local Standard Time and stopped over at Changi International Airport where they were welcomed by Representative Mr Ho Cheng Heng of Protocol Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore and Myanmar ambassador to Singapore U Hla Than.
Next, they left for Yangon by special flight and arrived back here in the afternoon.
Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt attended not only the 9th ASEAN Summit together with the Heads of State/Government of ASEAN nations but also other related summits-the summit between ASEAN and China; ASEAN and Japan; ASEAN and Korea; and ASEAN and India held in Bali, Indonesia on 7 and 8 October.
During the summits, Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt together with Heads of State/Government of ASEAN nations signed the Declaration of ASEAN Concord II (Bali Concord II) , Joint Declaration on Building a Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity, Framework Agreement for Comprehensive Economic Partnership between ASEAN and Japan, Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Economic Cooperation between ASEAN and India.
Moreover, Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt together with Heads of State/Government of ASEAN nations attended the ceremonies to sign the China's Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation and the India's Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation by the foreign affairs ministers.
At the summit, Economic Ministers of ASEAN nations including Myanmar signed the Protocol to Amend the Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Economic Cooperation between ASEAN and the People's Republic of China.
During the meetings, Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt frankly discussed matters related to bilateral cooperation and friendly ties between the two countires with Chinese Prime Minister Mr Wen Jiabao, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad and Singapore Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong on 6 October and Thai Prime Minister Dr Thaksin Shinawatra and Indonesian President Madame Megawati Soekanoputri on 8 October. Similarly, Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt built mutual friendship with other ASEAN leaders and leaders of China, Japan, Korea and India.
At the 9th ASEAN Summit, Heads of State/Government of ASEAN nations signed the ASEAN Concord II as a solid platform to achieve an ASEAN Economic Community, ASEAN Security Community, ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community and enhanced relations with dialogue partners, namely, China, Japan, Korea and India. So observers acknowledged that the summit was a historic one.
Moreover, the statement said that ASEAN warmly welcomed the pledge and future policy and programme of Myanmar to transform itself into a democratic nation and believed that the seven-point roadmap is pragmatic approach and deserves understanding and support. Economic sanctions are not helpful in promoting peace and stability essential for democracy to take root .
Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt meets with Thai counterpart
YANGON, 11 Oct - Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar General Khin Nyunt called on Prime Minister Dr Thaksin Shinnawatra at Room No 2315 of the Sheraton Nusa Indah Resort in Bali, Republic of Indonesia, at 11.10 am on 8 October.
Present on the occasion together with Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt were Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Soe Win, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and U Kyaw Thu and Myanmar Ambassador to Indonesia U Kyaw Myint, and together with the Thai Prime Minister were Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Dr Surakiart Sathirathai, Minister of Economic Affairs Mr Adisai Bodharamik, Chief Policy Advisor to Prime Minister Mr Pansak Vinyaratn and senior officials.
The two leaders cordially discussed matters related to bilateral relations and common interests. The Thai Prime Minister expressed his belief that the two countries are brethren nations, adding that as Thailand is the closet neighbour to Myanmar, it understands the conditions and challenges of Myanmar more than other countries. Supporting the seven stage roadmap of Myanmar, he said Thailand wishes to promote the economic cooperation between the two countries.
Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt expressed his thanks to the Thai Prime Minister for the positive support based on correct understanding for the conditions in Myanmar. Myanmar was also well aware of the danger of narcotic drugs posed to Thailand, he added. Highlighting the pledge of Myanmar to eliminate narcotic drugs, he said that Myanmar would enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Korean study delegation leaves for home
YANGON, 11 Oct - The Korean study delegation led by Rear Admiral Ahn, Sangjun of National Defence University of the Republic of Korea, together with senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence, Korean Defence Attaché Col Shim Jae-Koo and officials, yesterday morning, went to Azarni Mausoleum on Azarni Street in Bahan Township.
They were welcomed there by Director U Myat Thura of the Fine Arts Department and officials. The delegation members saluted the Azarnis (national leaders) and viewed round the mausoleum.
Next, the delegation proceeded to the Memorial to Fallen Heroes in the township. Chairman of the Maintenance Committee for the Memorial Commander of Yangon Station Commandant of the Defence Services Records Office Brig-Gen Myo Myint and officials welcomed them.
The delegation members saluted the fallen heroes and the delegation leader signed in the visitors' book. They also visited National Museum on Pyay Road before proceeding to Defence Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road.
Commandant of the National Defence College Maj-Gen Moe Hein hosted a luncheon in honour of the study delegation at the Karaweik Palace. Also present were Deputy Commandant of the college Brig-Gen Than Maung and senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence.
The study delegation left here by air in the evening. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College Brig-Gen Than Maung, senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence, Korean Defence Attaché Col Shim Jae-Koo and officials.
Agreement on State Level Meeting of Myanmar-India border civil authorities signed
YANGON, 11 Oct - A ceremony to sign the agreement on the ninth State Level Meeting of Myanmar-India border civil authorities was held at the meeting hall of Myanmar Drugs Elimination Museum at the corner of Hanthawady Street and Kyundaw Street in Kamayut Township here this morning.
Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Phone Swe, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Brig-Gen Khin Yi, Director-General of the General Administration Department U Myat Ko and officials of departments concerned, Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri N Gopalaswami and delegation members and Indian Ambassador Shri Rajiv Kumar Bhatia.
Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Phone Swe and Secretary Shri N Gopalaswami extended greetings. Next, they signed the agreement and exchanged documents. Later. the deputy minister presented gifts to the delegation members.
Chairman of CSSTB leaves for Brunei
YANGON, 11 Oct - The Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board Dr Than Nyun left for Brunei by air this afternoon to attend the 12th ASEAN Civil Service Personnel meeting to be held in Brunei from 13 to 15 October.
The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Attorney-General U Aye Maung, Auditor-General Maj-Gen Lun Maung and members of the CSSTB U Nyunt Swe, U Aung Myint, U Hla Myint Oo and U Kaung Nyunt and officials.
Dr Than Nyun was accompanied by Director-General of Civil Service Selection and Training Department U Hla Kyi and Jiont-Secretary Daw Khin Thida Aye of Myanmar Embassy in Brunei.

Transport Minister inspectes Boeing 737-800
YANGON, 11 Oct - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe arrived at Yangon International Airport this morning where he was welcomed by Director-General of Civil Aviation Department U Win Maung, Managing Director of Myanma Airways U Tin Hlaing Hme and officials of Myanmar Airways International.
In addition to present flight schedules of Myanmar Airways International, it made arrangements for Yangon-Singapore-Yangon five times a week, Yangon-Bangkok-Yangon ten times a week and Yangon-Kuala Lumpur-Yangon three times a week starting from the second week of the October,2003. Officials reported on regarding to Boeing 737-800 and present running of MD-82 to the minister.
Next, the minister inspected Boeing 737-800. It can carry 168 passengers. New flight schedules are Yangon-Hong Kong-Yangon and Yangon-New Delhi-Yangon. The minister left nessary instructions.
Minister inspects water supply tasks
YANGON, 11 Oct - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, accompanied by officials, inspected the Bago-Sittoung Canal in Thanatpin, Bago Division, this morning and viewed the water courses for availability of water for greening project in 30-mile radius of Yangon.
Officials of the Irrigation Department reported to the minister on arrangements of supplying water of the canal through Bagannyaungbin creek, Paikyon creek, Ohnne creek, Thakkala and drains on both sides of the road to Kayan-Thongwa Township. Afterwards, the Minister inspected the waterway of the canal and Bagannyaung Escape by boat, and gave instructions on undertaking maintenance works of the Escape.
Next, the minister inspected the extension of waterway of Bagannyaungbin creek, and discussed matters related to cultivation of summer and monsoon paddy and availability of water with the local farmers in Ohnne Village. The minister also met with departmental personnel and members of the Division Coordiantion Committee at No 34 trailer station of the Agricultural Mechanization Department and fulfilled the requirements. Later, the minister inspected the extension of drains on both sides of the road from Thakkala to Kayan.
The minister also inspected the 100-acre special zone aiming at the production of 100 baskets per acre in Thongwa Anauk Village in Thongwa Township, Yangon Division. Officials reported to the minister on arrangements for fertilization for targeted yield. The minister viewed round the paddy fields and discussed matters related to the agriculture sector.
Minister inspects timber mills and timber jetties
YANGON, 11 Oct - Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Thein Aung together with officials arrived Myanma Timber Enterprise (Wataya), Shwepyitha Township this morning where Managing Director of MTE U Win Tun and officials reported on measures to be taken for construction of timber based industrial zone.
Next, the minister inspected furniture factory and No 3, 9 and 6 timber mills and classification of logs to be exported.
Afterwards, the minister inspected Okkyin timber jetty, No 8 timber mill and N0 5 furniture factory and maintenance of machinery. Moreover, he inspected upgrading tasks of Kadawgyi and Zoological Gardens.
Minister inspects Indagaw Industrial Zone
YANGON, 11 Oct - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, accompanied by Deputy Minister Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw and officials, inspected Indagaw Industrial Zone of the Ministry in Indagaw Region, Bago Division, this morning.
Officials reported on work progress and tasks being carried out. The deputy minister and Director-General of Directorate of Myanma Industrial Planning U Khin Maung gave supplementary reports.
Regarding the reports, the minister gave instructions on systematic installation of the machines, taking over the technologies, test running of the machines, assignment of duties, staff welfare services, ensuring work site safety and security measures. Afterwards, the minister looked into Myanma Agricultural Machinery Industries and Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries and left necessary instructions.
Cash donated for sinking tube-wells in arid region
YANGON, 11 Oct - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt on 9 October accepted K 3.5 million donated by Myanmar ASEAN Women's Friendship Association at the ministry.
First, the minister clarified that 10-year rural areas water supply project has implemented since 2000-2001. Out of 8042 villages which face scarcity of water in arid region, 4365 villages have sufficient water now, he added.
Member of the panel of patrons the association Daw San Yon explained the purpose of the donation. The donation will be used to sink tube-wells in the villages in NyaungU Township, Mandalay Division. Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister Col Tin Ngwe, Ambassador of the Philippines Madame Phobe A Gomez, wives of the ambassadors of Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia and Laos, executives of the association and Director-General of the Development Affairs Department Col Myo Myint and officials.
YANGON, 11 Oct - Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe and Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin this morning inspected sanitation tasks carried out in the districts and townships by Tatmadawmen, members of Myanmar Police Force, YCDC staff, NGOs and the public.
The commander, the mayor and officials inspected dredging of ditches on both sides of lower Kyimyindine Street in Ahlon Township. Next, they looked into dredging of ditches on both sides of Baho Road in Kamayut Township and on Sadana Thukha Street. Officials reported on flow of water from the ditches to Kamayut Creek. The commander gave necessary instructions to them. The commander and the mayor also inspected dredging work being done at Tanku Creek on Pale Street, Shwe Pyitha Township and Hlinethaya Creek in Hlinethaya Township for proper drainage.
They also inspected sanitation tasks carried out near Padauk Myaing Market. Later, the commander and the mayor gave necessary instructions to officials.
Prize presentation of commander's shield volleyball tournament held in Toungoo
YANGON, 11 Oct - The final match and prize presentation of Southern Command Commander's shield volleyball tournament took place at the gymnasium of the command in Toungoo on 9 October morning.
Among the spectators were Commander of Southern Command Brig-Gen Ko Ko, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Thura Maung Ni, Commander of Toungoo Station Brig-Gen Thura Myint Thein and others.
After the final match, the commander presented the men's championship shield to Padaung Station team and officials the women's championship shield to Toungoo Station (A) team and other prizes to the respective winning teams.
In the afternoon, the commander, together with Brig-Gen Win Myint of Thantaunggyi Station and officials, met with local authorities, departmental staff, social organizations and townselders at the town hall of Thantaunggyi Township in Kayin State. Officials reported on development of the township. The commander called on concerted efforts for implementation of the five rural development tasks.
Later, the commander inspected the Thantaunggyi Township Basic Education High School and the people's hospital, giving necessary instructions and fulfilling the requirements.
Commander inspects development work in Pathein District
YANGON, 11 Oct - Accompanied by departmental officials, Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Naing inspected cultivation of monsoon paddy in Kangyidauk Township in Pathein District on 9 October and gave necessary instructions to officials.
At the township PDC office, the commander met with departmental staff, social organizations and local authorities.
Departmental officials reported to the commander on their department-wise work implementation and arrangements for supply of water for cold season paddy cultivation. The commander gave necessary instructions. Next, the commander paid homage to Lawka Hmanku Datpaungsu Theikdishin Pagoda and made cash donations for the renovation of the pagoda. The commander went to Kyeinchaung Village, Daka Village-tract where he inspected cultivation of paddy on farmer U Nyein Maung's 16-acre farmland. In meeting with departmental staff, social organizations and townselders at Kyaunggon Township PDC office, the commander discussed agricultural matters.
After paying homage to ancient Moegaung Pagoda and making cash donations, the commander inspected Shwe Myitta natural fertilizer factory of Ayeya Shwe Wah Co.Ltd. Officials reported on production process, and the commander gave necessary instructions.
Commander attends opening of Kyaukse elephant dance competition
YANGON, 11 Oct - The opening ceremony of elephant donation and elephant dance competition was held at the foot of Shwethalyaung Hill in Kyaukse, Mandalay Division, on 9 October morning.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Kyaukse District Lt-Col Aung Kyi Shein, district and township level departmental officials, social organizations, 30 elephant dance troupes and local people.
First, two girl students read out the history of the elephant donation and Lt-Col Aung Kyi Shein and township Chairman U Tin Win Oo formally opened the ceremony. The commander and audience watched the entertainment performed by the elephant dance troupes. The commander presented K 300,000 for holding the ceremony. In the evening, the commander met with 466 members of the Mandalay Division team who would participate in the 11th Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions at the National Theater in Mandalay.
The commander presented cash donation and the flag for the team to team manager Major Myint Thein who spoke words of thanks.
Regional development inspected in Palaw and Dawei Districts
YANGON, 11 Oct - Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, together with officials, inspected monsoon paddy fields in Palaw and gave necessary instructions to officials on 7 October.
The commander went to Palauk and inspected construction of a new office and development of the town and fulfilled the requirements.
On 8 October morning, the commander paid homage to Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Vice- Chairman Sayadaw Bhaddanta Asinnabhivamsa of Gawthitarama Pali Tekkatho Monastery in Dawei and donated offertories to the Sayadaw.
The commander met departmental personnel at Dawei District Peace and Development Council Office. He gave instructions on rice sufficiency and regional development works and attended to their needs.
On arrival at Maungmagan Beach in Longlon Township, the commander inspected the growing of 5,000 coconut palms for beautifying of the beach and gave instructions on tasks to be carried out for upgrading of the beach.
YANGON, 11 Oct - Organized by Myanmar Motion Pictures Asiayon, a respect paying ceremony was held at the meeting hall of the Asiayon on Wingaba Street, Bhahan Township, this morning.
On the occasion, Academy U Kyaw Thu explained about donation lists and condition of presentation of annual cash assistance to 31 doyen artistes.
Next, officials and wellwishers donated cash and medicine to a total of 95 artistes and Bokalay Tint Aung spoke words of thanks.

YANGON, 11 Oct - The birthday ceremony of Theintaung Pariyatti Monastery Sayadaw Member of the State Ovadacariya Agga Maha Pandita Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddham-majotika Bhaddanta Hsandadhika was held in conjunction with the opening of Abhidhaja Myinzu three-storey building at the monastery in Taunggyi, Shan State (South), on 6 October morning.
Present on the occasion were the Sayadaw of Theintaung Monastery and members of the Sangha, Shan State Peace and Development Council Chairman Eastern Command Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint and wife, Deputy Commander Col Win Myint, senior military officers, departmental officials, wellwishers and guests.
Sayadaw Hsandadhika and three Sayadaws were reordained. The commander and those presented offertories to the Sayadaws. Theintaung Sayadaw and the commander formally opened the stone inscription of the building. Afterwards, the merit-sharing ceremony followed. Theintaung Sayadaw administered the Five Precepts to the congregation. Members of the Sangha recited the Parittas.
The commander and wife and officials presented offertories to members of the Sangha, followed by sharing of merits. Next, "soon" was offered to members of the Sangha. The 88 feet long and 44 feet wide building was constructed at a cost of K 75 million.
Culture
YANGON, 11 Oct - Contestants, managers and members of panel of judges of respective states and divisions, who are going to participate in the 11th Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions, arrived here by air, by boat and by car this morning.
Those who arrived here were from Ayeyawady Division, Mandalay Division, Magway Division, Rakhine State, Taninthayi Division, Bago Division, Kayin State and Kayah State.
They were welcomed at No1 Transit Centre (Bayintnaung) by Chairman of the Reception and Accommodation subcommittee for the 11th Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions Commandant of the Defence Services General Hospital Brig-Gen Than Sein and members.
Similarly, those of Chin State and Taninthayi Division arrived at No1 Transit Centre (Bayintnaung) on 9 October.

ISD boxing tournament continues
YANGON, 11 Oct - The inter-state and division Myanmar traditional boxing tournament, organized by the Sports and Physical Education Department of the Ministry of Sports and the Myanmar Traditional Sports Federation, continued at Aung San Gymnasium this afternoon.
Among the spectators were President of the federation Daw Mi Mi Khin, Secretary U Mya Thein and officials. In the 54-kilo bantamweight novice division, Zaw Myo Htut won the victory because of Zaw Zaw (Yangon) failed to medical examination, Bhilatmyay Maung Maung (Kayin) beat Sai Shwe Wah (Mandalay) and Win Yaw Sein (Mon) beat Naing Naing Tun (Bago).
In the 60-kilo lightweight novice division, Aung Zaw Moe (Mandalay) beat Ta Kyawt Byan (Kachin), Yan Naing Lin (Taninthayi) beat Tun Hlaing Moe (Ayeyawady), Taik Aung (Kayin) beat Han Nay Oo (Mon) and Sai Zaw Latt (Shan/South) beat Shwe Lin Yon (Yangon).
Bar Ma Hti (Kayin) beat Khin Hlaing (Kachin) in the 67-kilo welterweight novice division. Kyaw Swa Oo (Taninthayi) beat Kya Thit (Bago) and Shwe Kyi Hsan (Kayin) beat Ko Thet (Yangon) in the 54-kilo bantamweight-B division.
At 11 am, MTSF President Daw Mi Mi Khin hosted lunch to the boxers at the Thuwunna Restaurant of the Youth Training Centre. Also present were Patrons of the federation Daw Khin Khin and Daw Khin Myat Nwe, secretaries, referees and team managers and coaches from states and divisions.
Myanmar wins two gold, three silver and 4 bronze in Asia Youth Wushu Championship
YANGON, 11 Oct - Myanmar has won one gold, two silver and 4 bronze in the Asia Youth Wushu Championship being held in Bejing, the People's Republic of China.
In Htaik Kyi Kyan contest (age 15-17), Myo Min Soe of Myanmar won gold, China Taipei silver and Korea bronze. In Htaik Kyi Kyan contest (age 12-14), China won gold, Ma Honey Ko Ko of Myanmar silver and Hong Kong bronze. In Taungsu contest (age 12-14), China won gold, Maung Wai Phyo Aung of Myanmar silver and Vietnam bronze. In Htaik Kyi Kyan contest (age 15-17), Hong Kong won gold, vietnam silver and Ma Kaythi Maw of Myanmar bronze. In Kyansu contest (age 15-17), Hong Kong won gold, Vietnam silver and Maung Kyaw Phyo Win of Myanmar bronze. In Nam Chwan contest (age 12-14), China won gold, Vietnam silver and Maung Wai Phyo Aung of Myanmar bronze. In Chan Chwan contest (age 12-14), Japan won gold, Vietnam silver and Maung Thura Soe of Myanmar bronze.
Up to today's events, Myanmar has won two gold, three silver and four bronze standing third place. China and Vietnam are standing first place and second place respectively. A total of 17 countries are participating in the contests, which will continue tomorrow.
Defence Services C-in-C' Trophy U-21 football tourney continues
YANGON, 11 Oct - The 19th Commander-in-Chief's Trophy U-21 Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) football tourney continued at the designated football grounds here this afternoon.
At Yangon Command sports ground in Mingaladon, South- West Command team beat No 77 LID team 8-0. At Padonma football ground in Sangyoung Township, Yangon Command team and Ministry of Defence Camp Commandant Office team played goalless.
