Prime Minister attends presenting of cash donations to Sabbanñu Stupa

YANGON, 13 Sept - The cash donations were made to the Sabbanñu Stupa at the 24th ceremony held at the stupa in Ward 5, Mayangon Township, this afternoon, attended by Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt. 

Also present on the occasion were Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe, ministers, the Yangon mayor, deputy ministers, officials, departmental heads, members of the work committee for construction of the stupa, local authorities, social organizations and wellwishers.  

Secretary of the work committee Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung reported on construction of the stupa and Ganta-kutitaik; Chairman of the Fund Raising Subcommittee Deputy Minister for Rail Transportation Thura U Thaung Lwin on financial statements.  

U Khin Shwe and U Tint San of the National Development Groups Co Ltd donated K 5.5 million for construction of the stupa; Maung Weik & Family Co, K 2 million; the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Rail Transportation, Daw Aye Myat Nwe (Bagan Hotel), Asia World Co Ltd, and Asia Express, K 1 million each; Yangon City Development Committee, Shwe Than Lwin Co, All Private Bus Lines Control Committee, and U Sein Hla Win of Sein & San Co Ltd and family, K 500,000 each; the Ministry of Mines, Ma Pan, Ma Phway and Maung Aw, Dr Aung Thein and U Tin Yu of Nibban Stainless Steel Co Ltd, Myanma Shipyards, Civil Aviation Department, Yangon Airway, Marine Administration Department, Air Mandalay, Inland Water Transport, Institute of Marine Technology, Myanma Five Star Line, Myanma Port Authority, Man-Myanmar Co Ltd, and Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River System, K 300,000 each; the Ministry of Industry-2, U Aye Ko-Daw Mi Mi Lay and family, Myanma Airways, Myanmar Maritime University, and Meteorology and Hydrology Department, K 200,000 each; Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, Shwe Kyaung Sayadaw (Singapore), Dr Myint Myint Hla, and Myanmar Perennial Crops Enterprise, K 100,000 each; U Ko Thu Shein (JK Ltd)-Daw Swe Swe Han and family, K 50,000 and Daw Thein Htaik and family, K 20,000. The commander, ministers and the mayor accepted the donations totalling K 41,170,000 and then presented certificates of honour to the wellwishers.  

The Prime Minister gave instructions to the officials concerned on construction of the stupa. 

After the ceremony, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt presented 225 dozens of exercise books and 75 dozens of pencils to the schoolchildren of basic education primary schools in Kyaukyaydwin, Ward 5, Mayangon Township individually. 

The General paid reverence to the Buddha images on the upper reliquary of the stupa and inspected progress of construction work.




Annual General Meeting of MCF, MCSA, MCIA, MCEA held

YANGON, 13 Sept - The Annual General Meeting of Myanmar Computer Federation, Myanmar Computer Scientists Association, Myanmar Computer Industry Association and Myanmar Computer Enthusiasts Association was held at the MICT Park in Hline Township here this morning, with an address by Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt.

 Also present on the occasion were Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe, ministers, the Yangon Mayor, deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, members of Myanmar Computer Science Development Council and e-National Task Force, members of the Board of Directors of MICTDC, the Chairmen of MCF, MCSA, MCIA, MCEA and executives, members and guests.

Presenting a report, Chairman of MCF U Thein Oo said that the MCF and the Computer Associations were formed with the aim of taking part in the national development tasks. In the process, MCF, MCSA, MCIA, MCEA were formed and measures are being taken for development of ICT technology.

The MCF and the Computer Associations are conducting talks and seminars on propagation of ICT technology and staging exhibitions on ICT technology. In addition, mobile talks are being conducted and arrangements are being made for publishing books on ICT technology. Resource Centre, where there are a wide range of publications on ICT technology, was opened at the MICT Park.

For ensuring ICT human resource development, courses are being conducted at e-Leaning Centre, trainees are being sent abroad for further studies and study tour. For ICT industry development, the National ICT awards have been chosen and presented and arrangements are being made for conducting seminars, inviting Myanmar ICT scientists and entrepreneurs abroad and for drawing the ICT Master Plan to ensure socio-economic development through ICT.

Next, Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt made a speech. He said that under the leadership of MCF, tasks for MCSA, MCIA, MCEA are meeting with success, adding that with the active participation of Myanmar computer scientists and computer enthusiasts MICT Park in Yangon was established within eight months whereas MICT park in Mandalay was established within four months. At present, youths are widely pursuing the IT technology there.

The observers abroad have acknowledged endeavours for propagation of IT technology in Myanmar, capabilities and efforts of Myanmar youths in studying the computer science.

Under the arrangement of MCF, seminars and exhibitions on ICT technology were conducted, the e-Learning Centre, the Resource Centre and Cyber Cafe opened, training courses conducted, trainees chosen for further studies and ICT technology given with the use of IT caravan. That is why there has been an increase in the number of youths who are pursuing ICT science.

Officials of MCF are striving for development of IT science by means of study tours abroad, contacting with the international organizations and signing the memorandum of understanding. Efforts are also being made with added momentum for increasing the number of youths who are studying ICT science and improvement of their capabilities.

As Myanmar youths are bright and sharp they will become outstanding ones as much as efforts are being made for acquisition of ICT science of international level and experiences.

The government will provide necessary assistance for development of ICT technology and the MCSA, MCIA, MCEA, on their part, are to make continued efforts with the sense of duty for further development of ICT science and producing of ICT scientists in the interest of the State and the people.

The youths also are to make earnest efforts to gain experiences in ICT science and to become ICT scientists of international level capable of participating on the front of the ICT page.  

After the ceremony, the Prime Minister inspected the Design of Tall Building training course co-sponsored by MCF and Myanmar Engineers Association at the MICT Park. At the training course, Myanmar engineers are to exchange experiences and knowledge with the use of software. Scholars from Asian technological institute will give lectures on the use of structure design software at the ten-day course that is being attended by 37 structure engineers.

Region

Measures for ensuring full capacity of export and import tasks and freight handling coordinated

YANGON, 13 Sept - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Soe Win and Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Thein Sein, met with departmental officials at the meeting hall of Myanma Port Authority on Pansodan Street here this afternoon.

Also present on the occasion were Chairman of the Committee for Ensuring Full Capacity of Freight Handling Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Maj-Gen Thein Swe, Deputy Minister for Transport U Pe Than, Vice-Chairman of the committee Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Secretary Brig-Gen Win Shein and members, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, the managing director of the MPA and departmental heads.

The chairman gave an account on salient points about the MPA, constructed pontoon bridges, mooring of ships at the pontoon bridges, export and import and freight handling tasks, future plans, progress in construction of container terminals and assistance provided. Minister Maj-Gen Thein Swe reported on formation and functions of the committee, progress achieved in freight handling after the formation of the committee, dredging taken along the banks, mooring of ocean liners, forming and functions of the committee and export and import policies. Director-General of the Customs Department Col Khin Maung Lin and Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung reported on export and import work and matters relating to avoiding malpractices.

Regarding the reports, the Secretary-1 delivered a speech, saying that full capacity freight handling is concerned with the majority of the ministries and so these tasks need to be carried out through cooperation. Respective officials should instantly instruct the subordinates at different levels for enabling them to be free from malpractice. The majority of export and import businesses are run by private entrepreneurs and responsible persons are to encourage them and guide them to be able to enjoy fair profits.

In accord with the market-oriented economic system, the government has been nurturing private entrepreneurs and opening the door of business opportunities in order to become skilled and dignified ones.

Realizing genuine goodwill and goals of the government, officials concerned are to make collective and systematic measures for development of export and import businesses avoiding undisciplined behaviours and minimizing loss and wastage. Collective efforts are to be made in implementing nation-building tasks phase-wise while speeding up economic development momentum.

The Secretary-2 said that success has been achieved after forming the committee made up of members from respective ministries. He called for placing emphasis on all export and import functions.

Tasks are to be carried out with goodwill but without any delay for ensuring things are going smoothly.

He added that staff are to discharge declared great care, avoiding seeking self-interests.

Now, the government has publicly declared the roadmap for building up a modern developed democratic nation.

When the seven-point plan is accomplished, he said that the country will be economically strong, thereby raising per capita income. Only then, will there be a harmonious development between political and economic sectors in the nation.

In implementing ministry-wise economic development projects, attempts are to be made for ensuring full collection of taxes, simultaneously practising thrift and minimizing loss and wastage under the supervision of respective officials. After the ceremony the Secretary-1, the Secretary-2 and party inspected Botahtaung container yard.

Lt-Gen Aung Htwe inspects Dahseik river water pumping project in Shan State (South)

  YANGON, 13 Sept - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Aung Htwe of the Ministry of Defence, Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials, on 11 September, heard report presented by Langkho Township Peace and Development Council Chairman U Twe Kut Htan on progress in consturction of the town hall. Lt-Gen Aung Htwe gave necessary instructions.

They proceeded to the office of Dahseik river water pumping project in Dahseik village of Langkho Township. Assistant Director U Thein Swe Myint of the Water Resources Utilization Department reported on implementation of the project, water supply and benefited acreage. Lt-Gen Aung Htwe gave instructions on proper flow of water, effective use of water for agricultural purpose, ensuring development of farmlands as well as the village and the region and maintenance of machinery.

The Dahseik water pumping project will supply water to 439 acres of paddy fields and 3009 acres of dry farmland all year round.

Next, Lt-Gen Aung Htwe and party arrived at the office of Namsan-Monai-Langkho Road Extension Project being implemented by Shwe Thanlwin Co in Namsan. The assistant engineer reported to Lt-Gen Aung Htwe and party on earth work being carried out at Namsan-Monai-Langkho road section, progress in extension of the road up to 14 feet and construction of conduits. Lt-Gen Aung Htwe gave instructions on timely completion of the project and meeting the set standard.

Afterwards, Lt-Gen Aung Htwe and party went to the construction site of Maha Rahtabhithamaggi Pagoda in Panglong, Loilem District. He fulfilled the needs in building the pagoda.

The pagoda is a replica of the Shwedagon Pagoda. From its platform to the top is 135 feet high and the height of the platform is 9 feet.

Lt-Gen Aung Htwe met with local people at the hall of the construction site of the pagoda and said that the government is striving to improve the health, education and social standard of the people; that universities and colleges were built in Shan State South, North and East; that the government is paying emphasis on local people's literacy; that efforts are also being made for better transportation; that roads will be built to link southern and northern Shan State; and that the government will make more efforts for regional development.

On arrival at the 200-bed specialist hospital in Liolem, Lt-Gen Aung Htwe and party were welcomed by Medical Superintendent Dr Myo Thant, health staff and incharge engineer U Khin Maung Thaung of Naungton Construction Co.

The medical superintendent and the incharge engineer reported to Lt-Gen Aung Htwe on progress in construction of three operation theaters and three labour rooms.

Next, they proceeded to Kalaw-Taunggyi-Hopon road section in Taunggyi Township on Meikhtila-Taunggyi-Kengtung-Tachilek road. The road section is being renovated by the Roads and Bridges Department of the Ministry of Construction. Superintending Engineer U Soe Tint of Public Works reported to Lt-Gen Aung Htwe and party on the history of renovating the Meikhtila-Taunggyi-Kengtung-Tachilek road and progress of work and Senior Engineer U Pe Min on construction work being carried out at Kalaw-Taunggyi-Hopon road section, progress of work and requirements. Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun gave a supplementary report.

 Lt-Gen Aung Htwe gave necessary instructions and arrived back in Taunggyi at 7.30 pm.

Sanitation and dredging work inspected

YANGON, 13 Sept - Tatmadawmen, members of Myanmar Police Force and the staff of the Yangon City Development Committee, members of social organisations and the public carried out sanitation work today at the respective districts, townships and wards. Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe, YCDC Chairman Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin and officials inspected the scenes and encouraged the participants. 

First, the commander and the mayor arrived at the junction of Kaba Aye Pagoda Road and Wingaba Road in Bahan Township in Yangon West District. They were welcomed there by officials. The commander and the mayor inspected dredging of ditches on both sides of Wingaba Road. The officials reported on conditions of the flow of water from the ditches to Magyitan drain and then to Ngamoe Yeik Creek.

On arrival at Yankin Street in Yankin Township, Yangon East District, the commander and the mayor were welcomed by No 2 Military Region Commander Brig-Gen Myo Myint and officials. Next, they inspected sanitation work being carried out at the junction of Senalondan Street and Saya San Road and dredging work. The commander and the mayor gave necessary instructions to officials. They also inspected sanitation tasks being carried out in the environs of the National Sports Stadium-1 (Thu-wunna) in Thingan-gyun Township. Later, the commander and the mayor inspected sanitation and dredging work being carried out in front of the office of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association on Thanthuma Road in South Oakkalapa Township and along Khemathi Road and Bonma (8) Street in North Oakkalapa Township. The commander and the mayor inspected dredging work being carried out at Thamaing Creek in Hline Township for proper drainage and gave necessary instructions to officials.

Construction Minister inspects upgrading of roads in Shan State

YANGON, 13 Sept - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun while in Taunggyi, Shan State inspected upgrading tasks of Meikhtila-Taunggyi-Kengtung-Tachileik road section on 12 September. 

First, the minister heard reports presented by Deputy Superintending Engineer of No 13 Bridge Special Group U Aung Ngwe on progress in extending road from mile post 71/0 in Meikhtila to mile post 36/0 in Kalaw and future tasks. The minister gave necessary instructions.

Next, the minister inspected upgrading tasks of Kalaw-Aungban-Heho-Taunggyi road section and gave necessary instructions.

At the briefing hall, the minister heard reports presented by Superintending Engineer U Tint San on upgrading tasks of the road from mile posts No 95/4 to No 99/2, collection of gravel, earth works, efficient use of machinery and fuel and future tasks. The Minister gave necessary instructions and he arrived back in Taunggyi.

First World First Aid Day held

YANGON, 14 Sept - A ceremony to mark the first World First Aid Day for 2003 sponsored by Yangon Division Red Cross Supervisory Committee was held at the Institute of Nursing here this morning, attended by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe and wife, Patron of Yangon Division Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committee Daw Khin Thet Htay.

 Also present on the occasion were President of Myanmar Red Cross Society Dr Kyaw Win, members of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council and Yangon Division Red Cross Supervisory Committee, the Chairmen of the District and Township Peace and Development Councils, social organizations, members of Red Cross Society prize winning students and guests.

In his address, Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe said that the ceremonies to mark the first World First Aid Day were held at the respective countries of the world at 11 am on 13 September in accord with their standard times. In human history, it was obvious that men unitedly established a peaceful and pleasant human society. But with the passage of time, there occurred friends and enemies due to greed, leading to conflicts and wars. At that time, regardless of friends and enemies an organization based on kindness and sympathy emerged with a symbol of red cross owing to efforts of Henery Dunant. As efforts have been made for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent which are based on human sympathy, there are 179 member countries in the organization in 2003.

Myanmar Red Cross Society is one of the national Red Cross societies contacting with the international Red Cross societies and headquarters.

The red cross societies at different levels have laid down three work programmes-uplift of health, prevention of disease and extending assistance to those who were in distress-and are implementing them. In this connection, first aid was given, assistance provided, rehabilitation and resettlement extended to those who were in distress. In addition, preventive measures are being taken in anticipation of the disaster. Therefore, officials concerned and red cross members are urged to make concerted efforts in the activities of Myanmar Red Cross Society in the interest of the State and the people.  

Next, the commander presented prizes to permanent members to mark the World First Aid Day, first, second and third prizes to outstanding Red Cross members in organizing works; Patron of Yangon Division Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committee Daw Khin Thet Htay first, second and third prizes to students who won first, second and third in essay competitions; President of MRCS Dr Kyaw Win first, second and third prizes to those who won first, second and third in first aid skill competitions; and Commander of Yangon Division MPF Police Col Aung Daing the township team that won prize in first aid competitions (women).

Next, Chairman of Yangon Division Red Cross Supervisory Committee Head of Yangon Division Health Department Dr Hla Myint presented certificates of honour to the outstanding Red Cross members.

Tasks for hotel and communications inspected in Bagan-NyaungU

YANGON, 13 Sept - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraph and Hotel and Tourism Brig-Gen Thein Zaw together with officials inspected reception hall, hostels and dining hall of Bagan Golf Resort Hotel at Bagan-NyaungU Airport yesterday morning.

 Next, the minister inspected Tharapa hotel. Minister Brig-Gen Thein Zaw and Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein looked into construction of extended Bagon hotel and renovation of Bagon-Thante hotel.

Next, the minister inspected Bagan Archaeological Museum and Bagan Ayeya hotel and Thiripyitsaya hotel and viewed round hotel project areas and gave necessary instructions.

Myanmar delegation arrives back from Indonesia

YANGON, 13 Sept - The Myanmar special observers delegation led by Vice-Chairman of the National Convention Convening Commission Chief Justice U Aung Toe arrived back here by air this morning after attending the 24th General Assembly of ASEAN Paliarment Work Committee held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 7 to 12 September. The Myanmar special observer delegation was welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Attorney-General U Aye Maung, Auditor-General Maj-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Chief Justice U Thein Soe, Judge of Supreme Court Dr Tin Aung Aye, Indonesian Ambassador Mr Wyoso Prodijowarsito and Third Secretary Mr Victor Josef Sambuaga, Director-General U Soe Nyunt of Supreme Court and officials of the Supreme Court and National Convention Convening Commission Office.

Joint-Secretary of Work Committee for National Convention Convening Commission U Thaung Nyunt and member of NCCWC Dr Thaung Myint also arrived back with the Chief Justice.

Cash presented to students for educational purposes

YANGON, 13 Sept - On behalf of Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt, directors-general of the State Peace and Development Council Office, the Pyithu Hluttaw Office, the Government's Office and the Presidential Office presented cash assistance for educational purposes to the children of the employees of the four offices who passed the 2003 matriculation examination at the meeting hall the Pyithu Hluttaw Building this morning. 

Also present on the occasion were deputy directors-general, directors, officials and students and their parents.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, Director-General of the State Peace and Development Council Office Lt-Col Pe Nyein made an address in honour of the students.  

Director-General Lt-Col Pe Nyein, Director-General of the Pyithu Hluttaw Office U Myint Thein, Director-General of the Government's Office U Soe Tint and Director-General of the Presidential Office U Tun Tun presented cash assistance to 19 students who are children of the staff.

Culture Minister inspects excavation of ancient Thayekhittaya

YANGON, 13 Sept - Minister for Culture Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, the Director-General of Archaeological Department and officials went on field tour of ancient Thayekhitta city by car on 12 September and inspected the chosen site for excavation and Archaeological Field School to be constructed outside the ancient city.

Next, the minister inspected Thayekhittaya Archaeological Museum, saying that Thayekhittaya is one of the most important cities as there are cultural items and monument still existing there unlike the other contemporary cities. Captions of the antiques displayed at the museum need to be provided to make the public know their values.

The minister paid homage to Bawbawgyi Pagoda and gave instructions on renovations of the pagoda.

Annual General meeting of MICT DC held

YANGON, 13 Sept - The annual general meeting (2002-2003) of Myanmar Information and Communication Technology Development Corporation (MICT DC) was held at the building of MICT park.

Present were MICT DC Chairman Brig-Gen Thein Swe, members of the board of directors and shareholders.

First, Brig-Gen Thein Swe made a speech on the occasion. Col Tin Oo read out the annual report of the board of directors, U Tin Win Aung the 2002-2003 financial report and an official of Win Thin & Associates the auditing report.

Next, the new members of the board of directors were elected for the financial year 2003-2004, and a three-member auditing committee was formed.

Prizes presented to winners in C-in-C (Air)'s shield shooting

YANGON, 13 Sept - A prize-presentation ceremony for the Commander-in-Chief (Air)'s shield shooting competition was held at the sports ground of the Ground Training Air Base in Meikhtila yesterday.

It was attended by Commander of the Ground Training Air Base Col Thura Khin Maung Win, senior military officers of Meikhtila Station, military officers and other ranks. At the ceremony, Col Thura Khin Maung Win presented the championship shield to the winning Ground Training Air Base team.

Officials gave away prizes to other winning teams.

Myanmar Wu Shu team leaves for China

YANGON, 13 Sept - To be successful in the 7th World Wu Shu Championship Tournament and the XXII ASEAN tournaments and to camp the athletes in the People's Republic of China, the Myanmar Wu Shu team led by President of Myanmar Wu Shu Federation U Khin Maung Lay left here for the People's Republic of China by air this evening. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by officials concerned.

The team comprised President U Khin Maung Lay, two Chinese coaches and five athletes.

Similarly, Myanmar Wu Shu team led by Secretary of Myanmar Wu Shu Federation U Tun Myint left here for China by air this morning. It comprised Secretary U Tun Myint, one Chinese coach and two athletes.

Drug
Heroin, raw opium seized

YANGON, 13 Sept - A combined team comprising members of Local Intelligence Unit and Muse Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Ma Lukala at No 70, No 8 Ward, Pansaing (Myoma), found Ma Lu Shan on 14 August and seized 6 heroin blocks weighing 1.4 kilos between the roof and brick wall in the compound and two packets of raw opium weighing 4.18 kilos in the sitting room in the house.

In connection with the case, action was taken against Ma Lu Shan, daughter of U Lu Sane Chan of No 70, No 8 Ward Pansaing (Myoma), Muse Township and Ma Lukala, still at large, daughter of U Lu Saing, owner of these seizure under Section 15/19(a)/20(a)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Pansaing Police Station.
