Yangon, 4 Aug- A ceremony to open the Advanced Organizing Course No 2/2003 of the Myanmar War Veterans Organization was held at the training school of MWVO in Nyaunghnapin, Hmawby Township, this morning, with an address by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Central Organizing Committee of Myanmar War Veterans Organization Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Thein Sein.
At the ceremony, Lt-Gen Thein Sein explained forming of MWVO, the aim, the five tasks, seven future tasks, the organizing, training and education and investment of the organization, agriculture and livestock breeding tasks, social welfare programme and community welfare tasks being carried out by the organization. Next, Lt-Gen Thein Sein cordially met with the trainees.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Thein Sein inspected the lecture hall, hostels, the kitchen and mess halls of the training school and left there. Similarly, the Advanced Organizing Courses No 2/2003 of the Myanmar War Veterans Organization were opened at the training school of MWVO (Mandalay) at Yedaguntaung in Mandalay and the training school (Magway) in Magway.
Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint attended the opening cere-mony held at Mandalay and made a speech. Likewise, Chairman of Mandalay Division WVO Supervisory Committee Secretary of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myo Aung delivered an address at the opening of the training course conducted in Magway.

Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than inspects livestock breeding tasks in South-West Command
Efforts are to be made for development of other production sectors in conformity with the region in addition to agricultural sector
Yangon, 4 Aug- Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation arrived in Pathein on 1 August.
On 2 August, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party together with Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Brig-Gen Htay Oo, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Tint Swe and departmental officials arrived at Htantaya domestic poultry farm of South-West Command.
Farm in-charge Lt-Col Tin Myo Tint reported on raising of fowls and laying rate. Commander Brig-Gen Htay Oo gave a supplementary report. Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than gave instructions on raising of fowls on a wide scale.
He also inspected raising of pigs. Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party went to poultry farm and incubating station of South-West Command. Lt-Col Tin Myo Tint reported on layout plan of the farm, fowls and construction of incubator, arrangements for production of fowls and distribution to the poultry farms of the command and livestock breeders.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than gave instructions on production of quality fowls and arrangements for increase in the laying rate. He then inspected the farms.
He also inspected the incubator that can hatch 3,000 eggs. He gave instructions and fulfilled the requirements.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party inspected breeding of catfish with the use of systematic method at the station.
Arrangements
are under way for raising of 2,300 fowls in 115 units of regiments and
battalions. Under this programme, it is expected
to raise 69,000 fowls in a
year.
Every household will raise 10 fowls and every battalion will also raise 10 pigs. A total of 243,482 fowls and 3,377 pigs are raised in the regiments and battalions of South-West Command.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party went to Pathein Industrial Zone and inspected sample of Ayar Hi-speed double cab. Secretary of Ayeyar Automobile Assembling Committee U Aung Myo Khaing reported on assembling of the cars.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than spoke of better transport in the division and urged the people to boost production of fowls for public consumption at reasonable price. They inspected assembling of the cars at the workshop.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party inspected Ayar Hi-speed double cab. They inspected cultivation of trees such as mahogany, pepper plants and sample plants. Commander Maj-Gen Htay Oo reported on work and gave instructions.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party inspected cultivation of pepper plantation of regional battalions. They also inspected plantation of baby corn and other maize.
Regiments and units extended 48.23 acres of cultivation land.
They proceeded to Shwe Myitta bio-fertilizer in Kangyidaunk Township. Factory in-charge Dr Nyunt Pe reported on production of organic and inorganic fertilizer and their effect in cultivation.
Then, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party inspected production process of the fertilizer.
Bio-fertilizer of Shwe Mitta Fertilizer Plant is a powerful one and the plant produces four kinds of fertilizer and the first kind is for land under paddy, maize, sesame, cotton, sunflower, beans and pulses; the second for land under groundnut, potatoes, onion, carrot; the third one for the land under vegetables; and the fourth for the land under perennial crops. It can be mixed with any kind of water. Six packets of the fertilizer can be used for one acre. The factory produces 15,000 packets of the fertilizer each containing one kilo per day. Arrangements are being made for production of more fertilizer.
Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than, Commander Maj-Gen Htay Oo and party at 1.30 pm arrived in Kyaunggon and met with departmental officials and officials of social organizations at the meeting hall of the Township Peace and Development Council Office and gave instructions on regional development, community peace, prevalence of law and order.
At the meeting, the Chairman of Kyaunggon Township Peace and Development Council reported on work being carried out for regional development, cultivation of monsoon paddy and livestock breeding.
Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than gave instructions, urging those present at the meeting to make earnest efforts for development of agriculture and fisheries sectors in the township, to seek ways and means for economic development in the region, to engage in farming undertakings on a manageable scale to boost the income of local people, to make concerted efforts for ensuring community peace and prevalence of law and order, and to strive together with local people for successful implementation of the five rural development tasks.
Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than greeted those present.
After inspecting the completion of monsoon paddy cultivation at the time of sufficient water and rain, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party proceeded to the model paddy field of 43 farmers in Kyondone Kalay Village-tract on Kyaunggon-Pantanaw road, where the Chairman of Pantanaw Township Peace and Development Council reported on trial cultivation of various kinds of paddy using fertilizer in the field and the salient points of paddy cultivation. The Chiarman of Maubin District Peace and Development Council gave a supplementary report.
In response to the reports, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than gave necessary instructions and attended to the needs.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than greeted the local farmers who were present on the occasion. He then gave instructions, calling on officials and farmers to ensure the use of systematic cultivation methods and quality strains, to use organic and inorganic fertilizer to ensure cultivation of paddy at the time of sufficient water and rain, to engage in agriculture along with livestock breeding, and to make collective and concerted efforts for ensuring prevalence of law and order and community peace.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party inspected the paddy plantations. At 4 pm, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party arrived in Pantanaw and met with departmental officials and members of social organizations at the meeting hall of the Township Peace and Development Council and gave instructions on regional development, prevalence of law and order and community peace.
At the meeting, the Chairman of Pantanaw Township Peace and Development Council reported on land use in the township, cultivation of monsoon paddy and other crops and work being carried out for ensuring successful implementation of the five rural development tasks.
Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than gave instructions, calling on those present at the meeting to strive for development of the agricultural and livestock breeding undertakings as Ayeyawady Division is rich in land and water resources, to make efforts for development of other production sectors suitable to the region, to ensure extended breeding of poultry from manageable scale to commercial scale, to strive together with officials concerned and members of social organizations for successful implementation of the five rural development tasks and for ensuring prevalence of law and order and community peace.
Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than greeted those present at the meeting.
Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party left Pantanaw at 4.30 pm and arrived back here in the evening.
Minister inspects hospitals in Ayeyawady Division
Yangon, 4 Aug - Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint inspected Nyaungdon Township People's Hospital in Ayeyawady Division yesterday morning.
At the meeting hall of the hospital, the minister met with the staff and explained rural health development issues. The minister also inspected health care services at Danubyu Township People's Hospital, Zalun Township People's Hospital and the 200-bed People's Hospital in Hinthada Township and gave necessary instructions to officials.
Next, the minister proceeded to Hinthada Township Nurses Training School where he met with the trainees and attended to the needs. Then, the minister looked into the health care services at people's hospitals in Kyonpyaw Township and Yekyi Township and Athok Station Hospital and gave necessary instructions to the health care staff.
Industry-1 Minister visits soap, candy factories in Mandalay
Yangon, 4 Aug- Chairman of Myanma Industrial Development Committee Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung inspected Hninzi Soap Factory in Pyigyidagun Township this afternoon.
The minister inspected packets of soap powder, raw materials, production of soap, machines used in soap production, storage of materials and packaging of soap.
He inspected production of Miss brand shampoo and soap powder. Officials concerned reported on production and distribution.
The minister went to candy factory on Prince Kanaung Road and inspected production of candy.
Four-monthly meeting of MPF held
Yangon, 4 Aug - The first four-monthly meeting for 2003 of Myanmar Police Force was held at MPF Headquarters this morning. Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Brig-Gen Khin Yi reported on the crime reluction project implemented during the second four months.
Next, Col Tin Hlaing made a speech. In his address, he urged responsible officials to make efforts to improve the work capability of MPF and to coordinate with other related departments for community peace and prevalence of law and order. Measures should be taken systematically to root out the narcotic drugs, to prevent human trafficking, to reduce crimes, and every danger that may occur in the nation.
Coord meeting of MAPT factory managers held
Yangon, 4 Aug - Work coordination meeting of the factory managers of the Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading under the Ministry of Commerce was held this morning at MAPT Head Office here.
Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and MAPT Managing Director U Min Hla Aung made speeches.
At the meeting, factory managers of the State-owned saw mills and bran oil mills discussed with departmental heads on tasks which have been implemented.
First Session of International Hydrological Programme opened
Yangon, 4 Aug - The First Session of the Union of Myanmar National Committee for International Hydrological Programme was opened at International Business Centre on Pyay Road this morning, attended by Chairman of Union of Myanmar National Committee for International Hydrological Programme Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe.
Also present were Deputy Ministers for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint and U Pe Than, Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr Chan Nyein, Officer on Special Duty Brig-Gen Myo Tin, departmental heads and experts, resident representatives of UNFAO and guests.
International Hydrological Programme of the National Committee was formed with five work committees comprising technicians of departments of the government and organizations. The committee will lay down and carry out management of water resource, conservation of water resource and control of water quality in accord with the five mottoes adopted by the International Hydrological Programme.
Water supply project, Kyaukse Hospital (200-bed) Project inspected
Yangon, 4 Aug- Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, accompanied by departmental officials, arrived in Kyaukse on yesterday morning.
At the hall of Kyaukse Township Development Affairs Committee, Project Engineer U Khin Maung Htay of Kyaukse Water Supply Project reported to the commander on laying of the pipeline for supplying water to wards in east and west of Kyaukse and installation of pumps and Assistant Director U Win Aung of Kyaukse District Irrigation Department on water supply tasks and construction of the water purifying system. The commander attended to their needs.
Next, the commander inspected completion in building the water tanks in Hsugon Ward, Kyaukse. The commander proceeded to Kyaukse Hospital (200-bed) Construction Project in Hsugon Ward and fulfilled the requirements.
Commander attends to needs of development tasks in Sittway
Yangon, 4 Aug- The coordination meeting on food sufficiency of Rakhine State was held at the meeting hall of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council on 28 July morning, attended by Chairman of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen Maung Oo, staff officers of the command headquarters, Secretary of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Thein Kyaing and officials.
At the meeting, the commander gave instructions on local food sufficiency and tasks to be extended for development of agriculture and meat and fish sectors.
Next, departmental officials reported on efforts to ensure local food sufficiency and requirements. The commander fulfilled their requirements.
The commander attended the second coordination meeting on all-round renovation of Lawkananda Pagoda at Maha Wayyan Sasana Beikman in Sittway. He supplicated on tasks being carried out to Presiding Nayaka of Dekkhinayama Monastery in Sittway Bhaddanta Çanda and members of the Sangha. The commander also attended to requirements of officials.
On 2 August, the commander attended the monsoon tree planting ceremony in Sittway. At the ceremony, the commander and wife planted trees at the designated places and visited planting of 2,200 perennial trees by local people.
At Rakhine State Gymnasium in Sittway, the commander gave a speech at the Western Command Commander's Shield Women's and Men's Volleyball Tournament for 2003. Altogether 28 women's and men's teams are taking part in the tournament.
Next, the commander inspected repair of Mingabyi Road in Mawleik Ward, Sittway Township, learning of children at Border Region Youth Development Training School of Education and Training Department and construction of Government Technological College (Sittway) in Yegyanbyin Village, Sittway. The commander gave instructions on timely completion of the tasks with meeting set standard and attended to their needs.

Yangon, 4 Aug - The Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Finance and Revenue Maj-Gen Hla Tun left here by air this morning to attend the Seventh ASEAN Finance Ministers' Meeting to be held in Manila, the Philippines, on 6 and 7 August.

Martial Arts competitions continue
Yangon, 4 Aug- The first Myanmar Olympic Committee Chairman's bowl martial arts contest-2003 and the 20th inter-state and division martial arts competitions continued today at the Aung San Stadium, it is learnt.

Yangon, 4 Aug - A combined team comprising members of Local Intelligence Unit, Bahmo Special Anti-Drug Squad and Lweje Police Station, acting on information, searched the house of Funtion (a) Lawti (a) Lawshin at No 5 Ward, Lweje on 27 May, 2002 and seized him with two heroin blocks weighing 690 grams, 5 grams of opium, 0.047 litres of raw opium liquid, 2.04 grams of low grade opium and opium related equipment, one .22 gun and nine bullets.
In connection with the case, action was taken against Funtion (a) Lawti (a) Lawshin, son of U Law Lin at No 5 Ward, Lweje Township under Section 15/19 (a)/22 (a) of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Law by Lwejel Police Station.
