Some big nations superior in wealth and technology trying to inject their customs, traditions and social values into cultures of developing nations through modern media
YANGON, 2
Aug - The first work coordination meeting for organizing the 11th Myanmar
Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions was held at the National

Nyunt.

Council Office. heads of department, doyen artistes, chairmen of the Work
Committee for Organizing the 11th Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts
Competitions and Sub-Committees, chairmen of the Panel of Judges and
officials.
In his address, the Secretary-1 said that Myanmar Traditional
Cultural Performing Arts Competitions are held annually with the aims of
preserving and uplift of the traditional and culture, of ensuring the spiritual
development of among the youths to be able to cherish and preserve the
traditional customs and culture and of enabling the Myanmar cultural arts to
keep abreast with those of the world nations without harming own cultural
heritage and national character. The competitions have entered its 11th Year
including this year. It can be said that Myanmar is the only country in the
world which has been holding the national level competitions annually with the
participation of the entire national people in safeguarding and preserving the
cultural arts, he noted.
Myanmar has the fine tradition of preserving and
uplift of traditional arts and culture for years countable by the
thousand.
Although Myanmar has been culturally dealing with neighbouring
nations for years, it managed to preserve and enhance the national arts and
culture without harming the national prestige and character.
Science and
technology, information and communication technology are now making progress in
the world Keeping pace with them, physical development is overwhelming the
world.
It can be seen that cultural heritage and national character of
most of the nations which have been flourishing for years are fading away and
Western culture and customs are overwhelming and social values and ethics which
have been preserved since time immemorial are deteriorating. But, Myanma
traditional arts and culture are still in existence since Myanmar managed to
preserve and safeguard its own national prestige and character.
In the
international spheres, some big nations who are superior to wealth and
technology are trying to inject their customs, traditions and social values into
the cultures of developing nations through the most modern media. Most of the
nations with high culture including eastern nations are placing emphasis on
revitalization of their traditional culture while striving for flourishing of
patriotic spirit and nationalism among their people. Progress has now been made
in the nation in preserving traditional culture and strengthening the
nationalistic spirit since Myanmar has been making constant efforts in
preservation of traditional culture. Due to Myanma traditional cultural
performing arts competitions, it is heartening to see the fine traditions of
studying Myanma arts and culture among Myanmar youths, of emergence of
performing arts who are preserving and enhancing genuine Myanma fine arts, of
increasing Myanmar young women who preserve national prestige and culture. But,
there are those who cherish and follow alien culture, character and social
values. To this end, unscrupulous persons are persuading them, resorting to
various ways and means. The government has to take action against those who are
running business, using Myanmar young women. In the process, public
participation is required. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to achieve
greater success of Myanma traditional cultural performing arts competitions.
Since Myanmar traditional cultural performing arts competitions are being
uplifted year by year quantitatively and qualitatively, the competitions have
been in a position to reflect Myanma traditional arts and
culture.
However, officials and artistes are to make continuous efforts
to promote the essence of the competitions. As regards promoting the standard of
the competitions, arrangements have been made not only to preserve the standard
of the previous year's competitions but also to include Donmin competition in
this year's music competition.
Saddan Hsinmin drama is designated to
include in drama competition. Out of Sudanu Drama, Mahothadha Drama, Maha Janaka
Drama and Vidura Drama, the artistes are to discuss at this meeting the choice
of a suitable one for professional level marionette competition.
As
efforts are being made to hold the eleventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural
Performing Arts Competitions on a grand scale with full national essence, all
are to harmoniously try to realize the goal.
The competitors are to
strive to display Myanmar traditional culture and highlighting Myanma traditions
and officials and artistes are to supervise the competitions to ensure
exhibiting true Myanma culture.
In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged
officials to strive for the success of the eleventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural

Competitions are making progress year by year, adding it was obvious that
Myanmar traditional culture is flourishing among the student youths.
But
earnest efforts will have to be made in harmony for safeguarding and enhancing
of traditional culture through the competitions that safeguard and enhance
Myanmar traditional culture, activities for development of women and youth
sectors and mass media since the Western culture is still infiltrating into
Myanmar culture. Only then, will the infiltration of Western culture fade
away.
Safeguarding and enhancing of Myanmar traditional culture is
benefiting the nation and the people much as well as preservation of the
culture, he stressed.
The Myanmar traditional cultural performing arts
competitions are making progress owning to the combined efforts of departmental
officials and doyen artistes, thereby contributing to turning out the
outstanding youths who will become the brilliant artistes in future.
