Secretary-1 presents exercise books, pencils to students of BEPSs in Shwepyitha, Hlinethaya

Yangon, 12 July - The ceremony to present exercise books and pencils to Basic Education Primary Schools in Hlinethaya and Shwepyitha townships was held at Kanaung Hall of Shwepyitha Industrial Town Management Office in Shwepyitha Township at noon today, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt.

Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt delivered an address. He said that exercise books and pencils worth K 3,837,160 donated by wellwishers to the MEC will be presented to students of 38 BEPSs in Shwepyitha and Hlinethaya Townships. Today, the State, the people and social organizations cooperate to carry out enrolment of school-going age children.

Every country is trying to realize the aim- literacy for all. In making efforts to keep abreast of the Southeast Asian countries as well as those of the world in the education sector, Myanmar has made progress. The 3-Rs courses of the literacy campaign were opened in the past. At present, the school enrolment programme is being implemented to be able to produce intellectuals and intelligentsia for development of human resource.

In the entire country including border areas, there were school-going age children who could not go to school for various reasons. The government, in cooperation with the people and social organizations, has been striving for the children to be able to attend schools and pursue high school and higher education after completing the primary education.

The Government is carrying out all-round development of the State and economy of the people. In addition, it is also implementing education promotion programmes systematically for everyone.

The Government, the people and social organizations work together to accomplish the school enrolment programme. Parents of the students on their part are to enrol their school-going age children and encourage them to pursue and complete education. At the same time, wellwishers and social organizations are urged to continue to provide assistance to the needy children.

Next, the Secretary-1 presented exercise books and pencils to students and teachers of Nos 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 18 BEPSs in Shwepyitha Township. The commander, Minister for Cooperatives, Minister for Industry-2 and Deputy Minister for Education U Myo Nyunt presented exercise books and pencils to the students and teachers of BEPSs 20, 21, 23, 27, 28, 29 and 30, 31, 32, 38, 40, 43 and 44 in Shwepyitha Township and BEPSs 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 18, 37 and 47 in Hlinethaya Township.

On behalf of the teachers and students, Headmistress Daw Moe Moe Than of Shwepyitha BEPS No 44 spoke words of thanks.

Today's ceremony, 5,116 dozens of exercise books and 1,706 dozens of pencils worth K 3,837,160 donated by wellwishers to MEC were presented to 4,885 students of 23 BEPSs in Shwepyitha Township and 5,347 students of 15 BEPSs in Hlinethaya Township.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party inspected factories and workshops of Shwepyitha Industrial Zone and Shwelinpan Industrial Zone by car. Next, they arrived at Shwelinpan Groundnut Oil Mill of Yuzana Co Ltd in Hlinethaya Township.

The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed there by Yuzana Co Ltd Chairman U Htay Myint and officials. They conducted the Secretary-1 and party round the mill.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected the laboratory of the mill and gave necessary instructions. Next, Yuzana Co Ltd Chairman U Htay Myint reported on crashing of 150 tons of soya bean and producing of 25 to 30 tons of oil a day of the mill, production of the oil without cholesterol, the expeller cake to be used for fish and prawn feedstuff and for export item and cultivation of soya bean which can benefit the State and farmers.

Later, General Khin Nyunt gave necessary instructions and left the mill in the afternoon.



Secretary-1 attends cornerstone-laying ceremony for Myanmar Fisheries Federation Office building

Yangon, 12 July-A cornerstone-laying ceremony for Myanmar Fisheries Federation Office building was held at the site chosen for construction of the building on Bayint Naung Road in Insein Township at 10.30 am today with an address by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt.

First, Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thein made a speech, saying that Myanmar needs to found an organization to deal with AFF that has been already formed in ASEAN after her entry into ASEAN. Accordingly, Myanmar Fisheries Federation was formed on 1 December 1998. In dealing with matters related to fisheries among ASEAN member countries as well as for development of fisheries in Myanmar, Myanmar needs a modern building. Thus, the cornerstone-laying ceremony for the building was held, he noted.

The Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries is making arrangements for development of fisheries sector, he said.

Next, President of MFF U Htay Myint reported on work being carried out by MFF and arrangements for construction of the building.

Afterwards, Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt made a speech. He said that the fisheries sector which plays an important role in Myanmar economic sector was in the third position after agricultural produce and forest product. Under geographical condition, Myanmar has many prospects for development of fisheries sector. It has many opportunities created by the nature and they are to be combined with efforts, diligence and innovation, he pointed out.

The Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries and entrepreneurs and technicians are to make concerted efforts for development of fisheries sector while effectively tapping the water resources which are in favour of development of the fisheries sector. At the same time, efforts are to be made to help develop the fisheries sector up to the first position of the economic sector of the State, he added.

Head of State Senior General Than Shwe, on his tour of Ayeyawady Division, has given guidance on development of fisheries sector in the division. That is why, he said, the MFF, the entrepreneurs and the technicians under the leadership of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries are to strive for development of fisheries sector including fish and prawn industries and for the emergence of a fisheries market that would lead to modernizing of the fisheries sector.

Next, the Secretary-1 and party accepted the cash donations for construction of the building. The cash donations included-K 124,031,713 by Marine product export/import entrepreneurs; K 24.864 million by Fisheries entrepreneurs; K 10 million by U Htay Myint (Chairman of Yuzana Co); K 8.9362 million by off sea fisheries entrepreneurs; K 1 million each by U Tin Myint (Mandalay), 2000 Fisheries Co, Shwe Tharawun Co, Shwe Byaingpyu Co, International Fisheries (Taninthayi) Ltd, Pyi Phyo Tun Co, Thida Fisheries Co, Great International Co, Farmer Phoyar Zar Co, Winner Brothers Co, Lin Aung Co, Asia Prosperity Export & Import, Annawa Fisheries Co, UMFCCI, Myanmar Livestock Federation and Central Sanpya Fish Market and others totalling K 192,281,913. Next, a ceremony to lay cornerstones for the building was held at the designated place. First, the Secretary-1 and party took positions. Next, the Secretary-1 placed silver casket at the centre of the cornerstone. At the auspicious time, the silver casket was laid.

Next, the Secretary-1 and party sprinkled scented water on the cornerstones and the ceremony ended.

The Secretary-1 performed the rituals of silver and golden showers to mark the success of the ceremony.

Next, they inspected the scale model of the building.

Afterwards, they looked into the site chosen for building of the international fish market. Next, the Secretary-1 and party inspected Thitseik Basic Education Primary School in Insein Township and give instructions and left there.

Secretary-1 drives stake for construction of nine-storey ordination hall of Myittawadi Hinthada (Parahita) Monastery in Hline

Yangon, 12 July - The ceremony to drive stakes for nine-storey ordination hall of Myittawadi Hinthada (Parahita) Monastery in Ward 16, Hline Township, was held at the monastery this morning.

Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony and accepted the cash donations.

Chairman of Yangon Division Sangha Nayaka Committee (Maha Dwara) Presiding Sayadaw of Myittawadi Hinthada (Parahita) Monastery Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Çandobhasa administered the Five Precepts. Members of the Sangha recited Parittas.

The Secretary-1 and party offered the gems casket, the stake and provisions to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Çandobhasa. The commander, the ministers and the deputy ministers donated offertories to members of the Sangha. The Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

Next, the ceremony to drive stakes and lay cornerstones for the building was held. At the auspicious time, the Secretary-1 and party drove the stakes and sprinkled scented water on them. Next, the cornerstones laying ceremony followed. The Secretary-1 placed the gems casket at the centre of the foundation. Next, the Secretary-1 and party laid cornerstones at the designated places.
Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party placed the stone plaque on the cornerstone and sprinkled scented water on it. The Secretary-1 performed the rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the successful completion of the ceremony. Next, the ceremony to donate cash towards the construction of the building was held at the five-storey building.

Also present on the occasion were members of the Sangha, ministers, the mayor of Yangon City, deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads, local authorities, departmental officials, guests, social organizations and wellwishers.


Sayadaw Dr Nanissara back from Japan

Yangon, 12 July - The Buddhist delegation of Myanmar led by Thidagu World Buddhist University Chancellor Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Maha Dhamma Kathika Bahujana Hitadhara International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University Honorary Professor Sayadaw Ashin Dr Ñanissara arrived back here by air this evening.

The delegation attended the preliminary meeting held in Japan for holding the World Fourth Buddhist Summit in Yangon, Myanmar, in December 2004.

They were welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by departmental officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and lay persons. Members of the delegation - Director-General of the Religious Affairs Department Dr Myo Myint and Pro-Rector (Admin) of ITBMU Dr Hla Pe also arrived back here on the same flight.


Waso robes offering ceremony held at Myatsaw Nyinaung Pagoda in Toungoo

Yangon, 12 July- The 10th Waso robes offering ceremony was held at the Dhammayon of Myatsaw Nyinaung Pagoda in Toungoo on 11 July morning.

Present were Yangon Monastery Sayadaw Bhaddanta Silavamsa and members of the Sangha, Commander of Southern Command Brig-Gen Ko Ko and wife, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Thura Maung Ni, Brig-Gen Thura Myint Thein of Toungoo Station, local authorities, social organizations and officials.

The commander and the congregation received the Five Precepts from Thayettaw Monastery Sayadaw Bhaddanta Çandima.

Next, the commander and wife, departmental officials and wellwishers donated Waso robes and provisions to the Sayadaws.

Later, Yangon Monastery Sayadaw Bhaddanta Silavamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

After the ceremony, the commander discussed all-round renovation of the pagoda and gave necessary instructions. Next, the commander and wife and wellwishers offered 'soon' to 56 members of the Sangha.

On 10 July, the commander arrived at Myanma Star Textile Factory in Bago. Manager U Sein Win reported matters related to the factory. The commander gave necessary instructions and inspected production process. Afterwards, the commander went to Inlay Lady Shoe Factory and inspected process of production and raw material section.

Myanma Economic Bank offers Waso robes

Ministry of Industry-1 offers Waso robes

Yangon, 12 July - Under the patronage of Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung and wife, the Sixth Waso robes offering ceremony of the Ministry of Industry-1 was held at the training hall of the ministry on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this morning, attended by Minister U Aung Thaung, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, directors-general and managing directors of the departments and enterprises and staff families.

First, the congregation received the Five Precepts from Dammaçarica Sayadaw U Visarada of Kyaukkon Kyaunggyitaik. Next, the minister, the deputy minister and staff families offered Waso robes and offertories to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha.

Ayeyawady Naval Region Command offers Waso robes

Yangon, 12 July - Under the patronage of Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Kyi Min and wife Daw Aye Aye, the 51st Waso robes offering ceremony of Ayeyawady Naval Region Command was held at the headquarters this morning, attended by Aletawya Sanpya Sarthintaik Presiding Sayadaw Agga Maha Ganthavaçaka Pandita Bhaddanta Gandhamalabhivamsa and members of Sangha, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Kyi Min and wife Daw Aye Aye, Chief of Staff (Navy) Rear-Admiral Soe Thein and wife, senior military officers and other ranks and their families.

Yangon, 12 July - Families of the Ministry of Science and Technology held the Waso robe-offering ceremony at the assembly hall of the ministry this morning.

Ministry of Information holds Waso robes offering ceremony

Yangon, 12 July- Under the auspices of Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan and wife, the sixth Waso robes offering ceremony of the Ministry was held at Dagon Pariyatti Monastery on Myoma Kyaung Street in Dagon Township this morning.

Present were Bahan Thiri Manta Sankyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Raj-inda, Tipitakadhara Dha-mmabhandagarika Agga Maha Pandita Yaw Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sirindabhivamsa, Presiding of the monastery Sayadaw Bhaddanta Guna-nanda, family members of the Minister for Information, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein and wife, officials and staff. The family members of the minister, the deputy minister and officials offered 'soon' to the Sayadaws.

Regional development projects inspected in Kayin State

Yangon, 12 July - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Maung Bo of the Ministry of Defence, arrived at District People's Hospital in Kawkareik on 6 July morning. Lt-Gen Maung Bo inspected the hospital and attended to the needs.

Next, Lt-Gen Maung Bo attended the presenting of offertories to Sayadaws of Pariyatti monasteries in Kawkareik held at Thaha Ponnyakayi Sasana Beikman of Jinasukha Lawka Tharaphu Pagoda in town.

Present on the occasion were Presiding Nayaka Sayadaws of the monasteries in town, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party, officials and guests. Kawkareik Shwe-kyetmin Monastery Presiding Nayaka Sayadaw Bhaddan-ta Manava administered the Five Precepts.

Lt-Gen Maung Bo supplicated on religious matters to the Sayadaws. Afterwards, Director-General of the Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana also supplicated on religious tasks being carried  out for flourishing of the Sasana in border areas.

Next, offertories were presented to the Sayadaws.

Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party attended the transplanting skill competition of Manawtun strain paddy at Ingyikwin Village near Kawkareik-Kyondoe road. After the competition, officials presented prizes to the winning transplanting teams. Lt-Gen Maung Bo urged the local people to effectively carry out agricultural and livestock breeding tasks and cordially greeted those present.

Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party inspected Kyondoe Station Hospital and donated cash to it. They proceeded to Thanhle model village in Hpa-an Township. Officials reported on progress of construction tasks. Regarding the reports presented by the officials, Lt-Gen Maung Bo fulfilled the requirements and left necessary instructions. Then, he presented provisions and offertories to Thanhle Monastery Sayadaw Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta and members of the Sangha. Lt-Gen Maung Bo met with village elders at the monastery. At the meeting, he elaborated on measures being taken by the government for equitable development of all parts of the nation. He spoke of the need for the local people to participate in these tasks in cooperation with local authorities, and to extend agricultural and livestock breeding tasks for local rice sufficiency. He attended to their needs, and presented K 1 million donated by the State Peace and Development Council for renovation of Thanhle Dhammayon.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party visited Maha Wihara Pariyatti Monastery in Kawbein Village, Kawkareik Township, and presented offertories to Presiding Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kelasa and members of the Sangha. Lt-Gen Maung Bo inspected village-to-village roads in the township and gave instructions. They attended the cash donations presenting ceremony for opening of multimedia classroom of Kawbein Basic Education High School held at the school. Lt-Gen Maung Bo presented a set of computer and colour printer to the school; Commander Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung, a set of video player, and Col Cho Tun Aung, a TV set through the principal. Next, Kawkareik District Peace and Development Council Chairman Lt-Col Ko Ko Gyi presented 700 dozens of exercise books, 700 dozens of pencils and K 150,000 to the students of basic education schools in Kawbein Station, Village Peace and Development Council, K 1.5 million for opening of multimedia classrooms at the village BEHS, Kawpauk Village and Min Village Peace and Development Councils, K 750,000 each, and Chairman of the school board of trustees U Min Tun Win, K 100,000 to the schoolmistress.

Lt-Gen Maung Bo made a speech on the occasion, saying that people, wellwishers and school boards of trustees are to make endeavours to build up a modern developed nation through education and to ensure installation of modern pedagogic aids to schools for the students. Only then, can the students in the entire nation enjoy equal opportunities in applying modern teaching technology. He called on the students to grasp the unique opportunity. He also urged the students, their parents, teachers and wellwishers to make collective endeavours for emergence of an education system that can create a constant learning society. They next inspected progress of the villages on both sides of Gyaing river.

They inspected Zathabyin Station Hospital and presented cash donations to the hospital. Lt-Gen Maung Bo inspected 185 feet long Zathabyin suspension bridge and construction works. They visited Win Kyoun Monastery in Zathabyin West Village and presented offertories to members of the Sangha.

Afterwards, they met with local authorities, farmers and village elders of the villages and fulfilled their requirements.


Paper-reading session on history of Myanma culture continues

Yangon, 12 July - Under the leadership of the Ministry of Culture, a paper-reading session on history of Myanma culture was held for the second day at the National Museum of the Department of Cultural Institute on Pyay Road at 10 am today.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Culture Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, directors-general, deputy directors-general, rectors, directors, literati, resource persons and officials.

The paper-reading session will be held for the third day on 14 July.


Ongoing project for upgrading of Yangon City

Yangon, 12 July - Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe, inspected tasks collectively being carried out by Tatmadawmen, members of Myanmar Police Force, staff of YCDC, social organizations and people at respective districts, townships and wards for upgrading of Yangon City this morning.

The commander, the vice-mayor and party first inspected the dredging of the drains along Strand Road and Thanlyetsun Street. Officials reported to the commander on conditions of both drains on Thanlyetsun Street, Mya Nanda River outlet and arrangements for upgrading Thanlyetsun street to a four-lane facility. The commander gave instructions.

Next, they inspected the unblocking and dredging of drains on both sides of Hintha Street in Ward 14, South Okkalapa Township, and left instructions on systematic measures to be taken for prevention of bank erosion for Ngamoeyeik Creek.

They also inspected the work sites in Dagon Myothit (North) Township and Dagon Myothit (South) Township and left necessary instructions.


Minister inspects cooperative shops

Yangon, 12 July - Minister for Cooperatives Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe made a speech in meeting with the members of Danyingon Station Market Cooperative Society at the Cooperative Department in Insein Township this afternoon.

Next, the minister and party inspected the shops of the cooperative society. They went to Padaukmyaing Market in Hlinethaya Township. The minister met the members of the board of directors at Kaung Myat Market Cooperative Society and gave necessary instructions. Later, the minister and party proceeded to Aungtagon Sanpya cooperative shop where he inspected buying and selling of goods. Officials conducted the minister round the shops.
