Yangon, 5 Feb — Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of condolence to the Honourable George W Bush, President of the United States of America on the tragic disaster of American  space  shuttle in which seven astronauts have lost their lives.

Yangon, 4 Feb— Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt received Mr Takashi Yoshida of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)  at his office yesterday.

KOTRA office opens at Sakura Tower

Health minister and officials arrive to attend meeting of GAEL

Yangon, 4 Feb— Minister of Health of Guinea Prof Manadou Soliau Diauo and member Dr Sakoba Keita, member Dr Justin Ndoyo of Central Africa, Regional Director of AFRO Dr E- brahim M Samba and member Dr Landry Bide arrived here by air at 7.15 pm today to attend the third meeting of Global Alliance for Elimination of Leprosy to be held at Sedona Hotel in Myanmar from 6 to 8 February.

Yangon, 4 Feb — The Second Myanmar ICT Week continued for the fifteenth day at MICT Park on Hline University Campus today.

IT  lectures given at Toungoo in Bago Division

Yangon, 4 Feb— IT Caranvan gave lectures at No 4 Basic Education High School, Toungoo,  Bago Division on 2 February.

IT Caravan gives lectures at Taungdwingyi, NyaungU

Yangon, 4 Feb— With the aim of widening the scope of knowledge of students and the public in Internet and information technology, the IT Caravan comprising computer experts of MCF and Myanmar Computer Industry Association and youths of IT companies, led by President of Myanmar Computer Federation U Thein Oo, Vice-President Former Rector of University of Computer Studies Adviser to the Ministry of Education Dr Kyaw Thein,  left Pyay by car on 29 January and arrived at Taungdwingyi in Magway Division at 11 am on that day.

They demonstrated the linking between Bagan Gateway and Internet with the use of telephone line there.

Drug possessor jailed

Yangon, 4 Feb — A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Magway Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information on 31 May 2002, searched Htay Myint in Hnone Village, Chaungzon Village-tract, Myaing Township, and seized him together with 9.6 litres of phensedyl put in 96 bottles.

Opium refinery exposed in Laukkai Township

Yangon, 4 Feb—A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit, the local Tatmadaw battalion and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, raided and combed the area at the map reference (P 605380) near Ahlarbye Village in Laukkai Township on 12 January.
