( 1 )  Secretary-1 attends merits-sharing ceremony for Aharadayi Soonsar Hsaung

Yangon, 17 March - A ceremony to open two-storey Aharadayi Soonsar Kyaung-Hsaung of Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik and to share merits for the Soonsar Hsaung was held at the Soonsar Hsaung in Insein Township, Yangon North District, this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Also present were Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika-dhaja Thayet Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kesara and Saya-daws, Presiding Sayadaw of Insein Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Nanda-vamsa, Taikoak Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Tilokabhivamsa, members of the Sangha and nuns, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen Myint Swe, the ministers, the deputy ministers, the vice-mayor, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, members of the Committee for Construction of Soonsar Hsaung, district and township authorities, departmental employees, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and social organizations, well-wishers, disciples and guests.

 Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin and Chairman of the Committee for Construction of the Soonsar Hsaung Director-General of the Prisons Department U Kyaw Tun formally opened the Soonar Hsaung.

 The Secretary-1 formally unveiled the signboard of the Soonsar Hsaung, and sprinkled scented water on the stone plaque of the Soonsar Hsaung. Afterwards, the merit-sharing ceremony was held in the Soonsar Hsaung. The Secretary-1 and party and the congregation received the Five Precepts from Thayet Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kesara. The Sayadaws and members of the Sangha recited Parittas.

The Secretary-1 presented documents related to the Soonsar Hsaung to Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Nandavamsa. Next, the Secretary-1 and party presented offertories to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha. The Secretary-1, the commander, the ministers and the deputy minister presented prizes to members of the Sangha who were outstanding in religious examinations held at Insein Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik. Director-General U Kyaw Tun supplicated on construction of the Soonsar Hsaung. Taikoak Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Tilokabhivamsa delivered a sermon. The Secretary-1 and party and wellwishers shared merits gained for good deeds.

 

Secretary-1 attends cornerstone laying ceremony of two-storey building at Tawtaik Dhamma Yeiktha in Shwepyitha

Yangon, 17 March- The cornerstone-laying ceremony for a two-storey building of the monastic education school at Tawtaik Dhamma Yeiktha was held at the Yeiktha in Shwepyitha Township at 7.45 am today, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

 Also present on the occasion were State Ovadanariya Sayadaw Agga Maha Kam-mathananariya Bhaddanta Dhammasara, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen Myint Swe, ministers, deputy ministers, the vice-mayor, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads, local authorities, departmental personnel, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and social organizations, well-wishers and guests.

Adviser to the State Calendar Committee Saya U Kyaw read out the stone inscription. Then, the Secretary-1 offered the gem-casket to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Dham-masara, who presented the gem-casket to the Secretary-1 again.

Next, the Secretary-1 put the gem-casket at the cornerstone. At the auspicious time, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Commander Brig-Gen Myint Swe, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Deputy Minister for Industry-1 Brig-Gen Kyaw Win and Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Hlaing Win laid the cornerstones.

 Afterwards, the Secretary-1 put the stone inscription and sprinkled scented water on it. Then, the ceremony came to an end with recitation of Namo Tassa three times. Next, the Secretary-1 performed the rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the successful completion of the ceremony. Managing Director U Tint Hsan of ACE Construction reported on arrangements for construction of the two-storey building. The Secretary-1 inspected construction of the three-storey Dhamma Theik-di building of Tawtaik Dhamma Yeiktha.

( 2 ) Secretary-1 inspects MICT Park and Bagan International Data Centre and Teleport

Yangon, 17 MarchÑChairman of Myanmar Computer Science Development Council Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected functions of MICT Park in Hline Township here this morning. On arrival at MICT Park, the Secretary-1 was welcomed by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen Myint Swe, the ministers, the deputy ministers, departmental heads, members of board of directors of MICTDC and officials of IT companies.

At the briefing hall, the Secretary-1 and party heard a report on seminars on information and communication technology and courses being conducted at the park presented by member of BOD U Thein Oo, a report on leasing of offices to local and foreign IT companies at the park and budget allotment and spending by member of BOD U Tin Win Aung, a report on plan to be carried out for second phase construction of a Cyber Mall at the park by member of BOD U Aung Zaw Myint, signing of an MoU for establishment of pilot projects in collaboration with foreign companies and associations and conducting courses and sending students for further studies abroad by member of BOD U Pyone Maung Maung. Those present took part in discussions on deve-lopment of MICT Park. The Secretary-1 said: ActivitiesÑconducting of courses, holding of seminars and production of softwareÑcould be performed during three-month period since MICT Park was opened. First, boosting of software production should be done.

 Then, officials concerned are to strive for hardware production. In doing so, technical companies are to manufacture separate parts according to the skill. Second phase extension of MICT Park needs to beÊ implemented soon. Transition of the MICTDC to a public company needs to be carried out in accordance with rules and regulations. Only then, will computer technicians and entrepreneurs be able to widely participate in IT development endeavours. As a result, volume of work will become greater. Tasks are to be carried out for nurturing computer technicians based on MICT Park. The government will fulfil the requirements for IT development. He urged the technicians to do further studies in order not to lag behind others and to strive for IT development aiming at establishment of a silicon valley.

In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged those present to make concerted efforts with the aim of serving not only their own interest but also national interest. Then, the Secretary-1 and party inspected conducting of the first MCSA Certification Examination Part (1) held by Myanmar Computer Scientist Association. At the meeting hall of MICT Production Block, the Secretary-1 heard a report on progress of work for making Pyusawhti movie series with the use of computer system by Bagan Entertainment presented by Vice-Chief of Military Intelligence Maj-Gen Kyaw Win. Pyusawhti movie will be presented in ten  parts.

Arrangements are being made for telecasting of the first part of the movie in June. Now, the movie is being created systematically by technicians. Training and refresher courses are being conducted for the world-class broadcasting of the movie and boosting high technology. Afterwards, Managing Director U Ye Myat Thu of Alpha Info-Tech Co Ltd (Mandalay) reported on production of Fundamental Pathana Desana of Venerable Sayadaw Janakanabhivamsa of Mahaganhtayon Amarapura in CD ROMs, distribution and plan to be carried out.

 Next, the Secretary-1 and party inspected round the IT companies at MICT Park Production Block. The Secretary-1 and party proceeded to Bagan International Data Centre and Teleport. Lt-Col Tin Oo of Ministry of Defence reported to the Secretary-1 on communication service rendered by Bagan IDC Teleport since it was inaugurated and future plans. Next, Minister for Communication, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung and officials reported on ministry-wise cooperation with Bagan IDC and Teleport. The Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions and left there in the morning.

( 3 ) Delegation leaves for Thailand

Yangon, 17 March - To attend the meeting on Myanmar-Thailand Trade Cooperation Commission (Third Time) to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, a delegation led by Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone left here by air this morning. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, Director-General of the Border Trade Department U Nay Win and Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading U Min Hla Aung. The members of the delegation were Director-General of the Directorate of Trade U Nyunt Aye, acting Managing Director of Myanmar Investment and Commercial Bank U Mya Than, Central Executive Committee member of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry U Sein Win Hlaing and Deputy Director of the Directorate of Trade U Tin Shwe Win.

UDNR Council Meeting No 1/2002 held

Yangon, 17 March - The University Council Meeting (1/2002) of the University for Development of National Races was held at the meeting hall of the university on 14 March morning. Present at the meeting were Chairman of the UDNR Council Commander of North-West Command Brig-Gen Soe Naing, Vice-Chairman of the Council Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board Dr Than Nyun, members of the Council and CSSTB U Aung Myint and U Kaung Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Brig-Gen Than Tun, Director-General of Public Service Affairs Department U Khin Maung Myint, Director-General of Civil Service Selection and Training Department U Hla Kyi, Rector of Sagaing Institute of Education Dr Myint Thein, Rector of the University of Distance Education (Mandalay) U Saw Aung, Rector of UDNR Col Zaw Min Thein, Pro-rector Daw Khin Si Si and officials.

At the meeting, the Commander delivered an opening speech. Those present also discussed matters related to the University and made decisions. Then, the Commander made a concluding remark and the meeting came to an end. Next, the Chairman of the University Council and representatives of State/Division Peace and Development Councils held a coordination meeting of the university at 3 pm. At the meeting, the Commander explained facts about the opening of the University and the nurturing of reliable educational service personnel and regional development leaders. Then, Rector Col Zaw Min Thein reported on the selection of the trainees, academic matters, condition of further studies for outstanding trainees and the supporties for the trainees. Afterwards, a general round of discussions followed. Later, the meeting came to an end with concluding remarks by the Commander.

( 4Minister inspects Indakaw industrial zone

Yangon, 17 March-Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and Deputy Minister Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw inspected Indakaw industrial zone in Indakaw Village, Bago Division, this morning. Managing Director of Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries U Soe Thein, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Machinery Industries Col Myo Tint and officials reported on construction of factories in the zone, arrival and installation of machines and power supply. Deputy Minister Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw and Director-General U Khin Maung gave supplementary reports. The minister gave instructions on completion of installation of Kamanat-Indakaw power line by the end of March and working according to the schedule. The minister and party inspected installation of fire hoses at the water tank factory, construction of a ball-bearing factory and preparations for construction of other factories.

Minister inspects bridge construction work

 Yangon, 17 March - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials, inspected construction of bridges being carried out by the ministry in Bago Division yesterday. The minister and party arrived at the construction site of Baingda creek bridge. Deputy Superintending Engineer U Soe Myint reported on progress of work and future tasks. The minister gave instructions on completion of the bridge as soon as possible before the rainy season. The four-lane bridge, 300 feet long and 60 feet wide, is being constructed at 1/89 Mile Post on Yangon-Mandalay Highway. The minister and party proceeded to the construction site of Sittaung bridge (Shwekyin-Madauk). Senior Engineer U Win Aung reported on progress of work and future tasks. The minister left instructions on completion of the bridge before the rainy season and fulfilled the requirements. The minister also inspected Yengwe creek bridge and fulfilled the requirements.

( 5 ) Degree College, construction of hospital and Kyweku-Kyaukphya bridge inspected in Myeik

Yangon, 17 March -Member of the State Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen Maung Bo of the Ministry of Defence, accompanied by Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Tin Latt of Coastal Region Command and Secretary Lt-Col Khin Maung Nyo of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council and officials, on 14 March morning, went to Myeik Degree College in Myeik, and inspected pedagogic matters and construction of new buildings there. Maj-Gen Maung Bo met with teachers and education staff at the college. He heard reports by Deputy Principal U Khin Maung Cho on progress of construction of the new buildings, the strength of teachers and academic matters. Maj-Gen Maung Bo attended to the requirements, and gave instructions on keeping the campus clean, green and pleasant and the finishing of the new buildings sooner. Next, Maj-Gen Maung Bo and party arrived at the site where Myeik District General Hospital (200-bed) is being built. Medical Superintendent Dr Mya Thaung reported on progress of construction of the hospital and the work being undertaken there to Maj-Gen Maung Bo, who later gave instructions and fulfilled the needs. Maj-Gen Maung Bo proceeded to the construction site of Kyaukphya river crossing Kyweku-Kyauk-phya bridge. Superintending Engineer U Ba Wan and officials conducted him round the construction site. Afterwards, Maj-Gen Maung Bo gave instructions on timely completion of construction work and meeting the set standard. He also attended to their needs.

Commander attends Buddha Pujaniya, rice offering ceremony in Pyay

Yangon, 17 March- The second Buddha Pujaniya of Maha Shwemyintmonulamani Datpaungsu Pagoda and the rice offering ceremony was held at Yadana Manaung Tawya Kyaungtaik in Pyay yesterday morning. Present were Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Southern Command Brig-Gen Aung Min and wife, Commander of No 66 LID Col Aung Tun and senior military officers and their wives, Chairman of Bago Division (West) Peace and Development Council Col Soe Nwe, officials and wellwishers. First, the commander and wife and officials donated Htamane, "soon", flowers, lights and water to the Pagoda.

 Then, the commander paid homage and donated provisions to Presiding Nayaka of Yadana Manaung Tawya Kyaungtaik Gaba Shweyinaye Sayadaw Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta Vijjabala. At 2 pm, the commander and wife and wellwishers offered rice to the 108 members of the Sangha. At the Dhamma ‚akkya Dhammayon of the Kyaungtaik, the Sayadaw administered the Five Precepts. Next, the wellwishers donated cash for offering gold foils at the pagoda. Later, the Sayadaw delivered a sermon and the commander and the congregation shared merits gained. At the ceremony, authorities, wellwishers, social organizations, regiments and units in Pyay Station donated 324 sets of robe and provisions worth over K 5.2 million.

( 6Commander inspects construction works

Yangon, 17 March - Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Brig-Gen Ye Myint, accompanied by officials, inspected construction site of a medical research centre in Kyetpyay Village, Pyinmana Township, in Yamethin District on 14 March afternoon. After hearing a report by Deputy Director-General of the Health Department Col Than Aung, the commander attended to the needs. The commander also inspected the construction site of 300-bed hospital in Pyinmana and gave necessary instructions. In the evening, the commander inspected the construction sites of Pyinmana-Yamethin road section and Yamethin-Pyawbwe-Meiktila road section of Yangon-Mandalay six-lane road being carried out by Asia World Co Ltd and Yuzana High Way Co Ltd respectively. After hearing reports by the officials, the commander fulfilled the requirements.

 Myanmar Computer Scientist Association holds exam

Yangon, 17 March- The Myanmar Computer Scientist Association Certification Programme (MCSACP) exam, organized by Myanmar Computer Scientist Association, was held at Myanmar ICT Park in Hline Township from 9 am to 3.30 pm today with the aims of turning out qualified IT professionals, accepting international acknowledgement for Myanmar IT engineers and Myanmar IT organizations. A total of 112 persons took the exam.

( 7 Commander inspects roads and bridges

Yangon, 17 March - Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander of North-East Command Brig-Gen Myint Hlaing, together with Brig-Gen Soe Htay of Kyaukme Station, Superintending Engineer U Kyaw Min Thein and officials, arrived at Kholone Forest Nursery on 11 March morning. The commander inspected the growing of 37,000 Thitseint trees and perennial trees. Then, the commander inspected repairs of Hsipaw-Nanlan-Pankaytu-Loilem motor road and maintenance work of Namkha Creek Bridge. In the afternoon, the commander paid respects to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Nandisa of Tonlaw Village Monastery. Afterwards, Commander Brig-Gen Myint Hlaing, together with Commander of Eastern Command Brig-Gen Khin Maung Myint, inspected bridges on Hsipaw-Nanlan-Pankaytu-Loilem motor road, arrangements to extend the road and regional development tasks. The commander paid respects and offered alms to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vicittasara of Myitzimarama Monastery in Nanlan.

Rural roads, bridges opened in Pantanaw Township

Yangon, 17 MarchÑ Member of Central Executive Committee of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, accompanied by Director-General Col Myo Myint of Development Affairs Department and officials, attended opening ceremonies of rural roads and bridges undertaken by Pantanaw Township Development Committee this morning. Also present on the occasions were Director U Ohn Nyunt of Ayeyawady Division Development Committee, local authorities, Pantanaw Township USDA members, social organizations and local people.

 First, the minister attended the opening ceremony of Pathwe-Yinpha rural road. Pantanaw Township Peace and Development Council Chairman U Myo Han and Township Development Committee Executive Officer U Soe Myint reported on tasks carried out. Then, Township USDA Secretary U Myint Thein, Executive Officer U Soe Myint and a townselder formally opened the road. Pathwe-Yinpha rural road, 20 feet wide and 4 miles and 6 furlongs long, was constructed at a cost of K 700,000. Due to the completion of the road, about 10,000 local people of 33 villages in the area can reach Yangon-Pathein Road and Yangon-Einme Road easily.

Then, the minister attended opening ceremonies of Yinpha Bridge and Theingon-Ashesu gravel road. Officials reported on the construction of the road and the bridge. Yinpha Bridge is a 150 feet long and 10 feet wide. It is a wooden one built at a cost of K 2 million. Theingon-Ashesu gravel road, 8,500 feet long, was constructed at a cost of K 2.28 million. Next, the minister attended opening of Ohbo-Chaunggale gravel road and Kapaing-Inma earthen road. Afterwards, the minister met service personnel at the Chaunggale Village Basic Education Middle School and gave necessary instructions.

Commander attends coord meeting of Rakhine State GAD

Yangon, 17 March- Rakhine State General Administration Department held the work coordination meeting at the office of the department on 15 March morning. Present were Chairman of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Commander of Western Command Brig-Gen Maung Oo, Vice-Chairman Brig-Gen Phone Swe, officials, township chairmen of 17 townships in Rakhine State and Paletwa Township in Chin State. The commander gave instructions on rural development tasks to be carried out. The Vice-Chairman reported on development of Rakhine State. The commander attended to the requirements. In the afternoon, the commander met with executives of state, district and township Union Solidarity and Development Associations at the Rakhine State USDA Office and attended to their needs.

( 8 )  New school building handed over

Yangon, 17 March -A ceremony to unveil the stone inscription reading Myanmar Education Goals and to hand over new school building is held at Affiliated Basic Education Middle School, Moatpalin in Kyaikhto Township, Mon State on 11 March morning. It was attended by Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Chairman of Myanma Education Research Bureau U Myint Han, Deputy Director-General of No 1 Basic Education Department U Myint Swe, the Mon State Education Officer, Chairman of District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Tin Aung, the township education officer, school heads, members of School Boards of Trustees and Parents-Teachers Association, wellwishers, members of township and village Peace and Development Councils, members of Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Red Cross Society, villagers, invited guests, teachers and students.

 The stone inscription reading Myanmar Education Goals was opened by 14 outstanding students. Then, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung formally opened the stone inscription of new school building. On behalf of the wellwishers from the Higashiosaka Central Rotary Club of Osaka in Japan, Mr Takita Hirohiko explained purpose of the donation and the deputy minister spoke words of thanks to the wellwishers. Mr Takita Hirohiko handed over the documents relating to the new school building to Deputy Director-General U Myint Swe who later presented certificates of honour to him. Then, they had souvenir photos taken and the ceremony came to a close.

Commander inspects regional development work

Yangon, 17 March - Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Brig-Gen Htay Oo, accompanied by officials, inspected Maubin District People's Hospital on 14 March evening. After hearing report by the medical superintendent of the hospital, the commander comforted the in-patients. Then, the commander proceeded to Myo-U Paw-dawmu Pagoda in Maubin and inspected renovation work. Afterwards, the commander went to Hsarmalauk peasant's hospital. The medical superintendent of the hospital explained facts about the hospital. The commander fulfilled the requirement of the hospital and comforted the in-patients.

Commander inspects Chindwin Bridge (Monywa) construction project

Yangon, 17 March- Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Brig-Gen Soe Naing, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials, arrived at the construction site of Chindwin Bridge (Monywa) Project on 11 March morning. Project Superintending Engineer U San Nyein reported on tasks being carried out and the Assistant Director of Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems on bank erosion of Chindwin River and situation of the waterway. The commander and the deputy minister attended to their needs and inspected the work site. On 12 March, the commander attended the collective sales of cotton at Myoma cotton purchase depot in Monywa. Then, the commander presented prize to the village-tract which stood first in the largest sales of cotton and the farmer who stood in the largest sales of cotton. So far, 1,248,843 viss of cotton have been purchased in Sagaing Division.

( 9 ) Myanmar trounces Singapore 6-0

Yangon, 17 March- The third match of Group 7 for Under-17 Asian Youth Football Qualifier continued at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna at 4 pm today. Among the spectators were Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, guests, patrons of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation, officials of the Ministry of Sports and Myanmar Football Federation. First, the players of both sides led by referees took positions at the designated places and saluted the respective state flags. Then, the team captains exchanged commemorative pennants. At the match, host Myanmar youth team trounced Singaporean youth team 6-0. In the qualifier, Myanmar U-17 team qualified after gaining six points in two matches with two win. Hong Kong U-17 team was disqualified after playing one win and one loss in two matches with three points. Singaporean U-17 team was also disqualified with two losses after playing two matches. After the qualifier match, Win Min Htut of Myanmar team conveying the Union Flag together with his team-mates went round the stadium. The spectators gave a rousing applause to them. Then, the Sports Minister cordially greeted the football players and posed for documentary photo together with them.

Chinese youth beat Singaporean youth 2-0

Yangon, 17 March- The Under-20 Asian Youth Group-11 Soccer Qualifier continued in Singapore this evening. At the match, Chinese youth team beat host Singapore youth team 2-0.
