PRC President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping and delegation leave for Ngapali
Yangon, 13 Dec - The goodwill delegation led by President of the People's Republic of China Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping left here for Ngapali in Thandwe, Rakhine State, this afternoon.
President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping and party were accompanied by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and wife, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and wife, Ambassador of Myanmar to PRC U Sein Win Aung and wife, Ambassador of PRC to Myanmar Mr Li Jinjun and officials.
Before their departure for Thandwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing met President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping at Seinle Kantha State House at 2 pm.
Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing presented a gift, a documentary album and a documentary video-tape on the state visit to President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping.
President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping also presented gifts to Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing.
Accompanied by Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing, President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping and party left Seinle Kantha State House for Yangon International Airport in a motorcade.
Along the road from Seinle Kantha State House to the airport, teachers, students, members of Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigade, nurses and the public totalling about 10,000 greeted the guests waving miniature flags of the two countries wishing the President of the People's Republic of China and Madame and Senior General Than Shwe and wife good health and hailing the Myanmar-China friendship.
The guests arrived at the airport at 2.30 pm together with Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing.
President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping were greeted by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council General Maung Aye and wife, members of the State Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann and wife and Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and wife, staff of PRC Embassy and the Chinese community in Yangon, who were waiting at the VIP lounge.
Schoolgirls waiting at the airport greeted the Chinese President and Madame and delegation members waving miniature flags of the two countries and chanting slogans.
President Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping greeted Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing before boarding the plane.
The guests then left for Thandwe at 2.45 pm.

Yangon, 13 Dec -Accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Ambassador of Myanmar U Sein Win Aung, Ambassador of the
Peoples' Republic of China Mr Li Jinjun, Director-General of the Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and officials, the Chinese goodwill delegation led by President of the PRC Mr Jiang Zemin, currently here on a state visit at the invitation of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, visited the Shwedagon Pagoda at 9 am today.
Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin and members of Work Committee for All-round Renovation of the Pagoda and members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees welcomed the guests.
The visiting President and party paid homage to the pagoda. They also paid homage to the Jade Buddha Image at the prayer hall of the Punya Kusala Bahukara Association.
Then, they posed for documentary photos on the pagoda platform.
The visiting President signed in the visitors' book and donate K 1 million to the funds of the pagoda to Minister U Aung Khin who presented a certificate of honour and a book on Htidaw
hosting record to the guest. They left later in the morning.

( 4 ) President Jiang Zemin plants tree to commemorate state visit
Yangon, 13 Dec-The visiting President of the People's Republic of China Mr Jiang Zemin, on a state visit to Myanmar at the invitation of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, planted a tree in the People's Square and People's Park near Pyidaungsu Aye Yeik Nyein at the corner of Ahlon Street and Pyay Road this morning to mark his state visit.
The visiting President and members, accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and staff from the Chinese embassy, arrived at the People's Square and People's Park at 9.20 am.
They were welcomed by Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint, member of YCDC U Aung Soe and officials.
Then, the visiting President planted a Minzu Thaka Meze (Madhuca Longifolia) at the designated place.
The Chinese President, the Minister and the Mayor posed for a documentary photo in front of the tree.
Then, the visiting President and members viewed the trees planted by the Heads of State of ASEAN member nations and other countries, who arrived here at the invitation of Senior General Than Shwe to mark their friendly visits, and left there at 9.30 am.

Yangon, 13 Dec-President of the People's Republic of China Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping, who are here on a state visit at the invitation of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister of Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing, accompanied by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and wife, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and wife, Ambassador of Myanmar to PRC U Sein Win Aung and wife, Ambassador of PRC to Myanmar Mr Li Jinjun, left here for Thandwe by special flight this afternoon and arrived in Thandwe, Rakhine State, at 3.30 pm today.
The PRC President and Madame and goodwill delegation members were welcomed by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen Aung Htwe and wife Daw Khin Hnin Wai, Brig-Gen Kyi Thein and wife of Taungup Station and Deputy Commander Col Myo Lwin and wife.
Girl students welcomed the delegation at the airport performing Rakhine traditional dance to the accompaniment of traditional music.
In extending the grand welcome to the PRC President and Madame, an archway was put up at the entrance to Thandwe Airport bearing words both in Myanmar and English
" We warmly welcome His Excellency President of the People's Republic to China Mr Jiang Zemin and Madame Wang Yeping
", flags of the two nations were hoisted at the airport and along the entrance road to the airport.
The President and Madame, together with Commander Maj-Gen Aung Htwe and wife proceeded to Annawa Yeiktha in Nagapali Beach Resort in a motorcade. Teachers, students and people numbering over 5,000 warmly welcomed the guests waving miniature flags of the two countries along the route
from the airport to Annawa Yeiktha in Nagapali Beach Resort.
The President and Madame stopped for the night at Annawa Yeiktha.

Laungut Bridge in Gangaw Township, Magway Division, inaugurated
Yangon, 13 Dec - A ceremony to open Laungut Bridge on Gangaw-Kalay motor road in Gangaw Township, Magway Division, was held at the central pandal of the bridge this morning.
It was attended by Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Deputy Commander of North-West Command Brig-Gen Soe Myint, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Myint Thein, Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, officials, departmental personnel, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross, Fire Brigade and people totalling over 10,000.
Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun said construction of Laungut
Bridge began on 15 January 2000. It was completed on 12 December 2001.
The 300-feet long reinforced concrete bridge was built within a two-year
period.
The State is laying down and implementing plans
for the nation to get abreast of other nations, for rapid progress of
the national economy and for further improvement of the living standards
of the citizens. The government is building bridges to foster Union
Spirit, to develop the regions and to raise the social standards of the
people. Now there is a network of roads and bridges in the nation. At
present there are 17,873 miles of roads in the nation up 4,238 miles
from 13,635 miles in 1988. Up to now, the government has built 136 major
bridges of 180 feet and above.
The cost of building the 136 bridges is K 51,940
million and US $ 129 million. The government has built seven bridges Natho Creek Bridge, Myittha River (Saingdu) Bridge, Yaw Creek Bridge, Mann Creek Bridge, Salin (Nwetame) Bridge, Mone Creek Bridge and Anawrahta Bridge
which are more than 180 feet long, in Magway Division alone.
It is also building four bridges Ayeyawady Bridge (Magway), Shwechaung Bridge, Bwetkyi Bridge and Mann (Padan) Creek Bridge. Engineering work is under way to built Ohndaw Bridge and Daungnay Creek Bridge.
As the Laungut Bridge is located on Gangaw-Kalay Road, which is an importand transport facility in Magway Division, it will help develop the region.
It will also help ensure smooth transport in Magway Division and Sagaing Division and Chin State.
Then, the Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Soe Myint and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan made speeches.
The minister presented a gift to District Chief Engineer U Zaw Win Myint.
The minister and the deputy commander formally opened the bridge.
The minister and party had a documentary photo taken
together with local people. The minister formally unveiled the stone
plaque of the bridge. The 300-foot-long bridge, a reinforced concrete
one, costs K 170 million. It has a 24-foot motorway and two 3-foot
pedestrian lanes. It links Magway Division, Sagaing Division and Chin
State.

Seminar on management of snakebite and research held
Yangon, 13 Dec- Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein attended
the opening ceremony of the Seminar on management of snakebite and research,
jointly organized by Medical Research Department (Lower Myanmar) and WHO, held
at the hall of the Medical Research Department on 11 December.
Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Health
Prof Dr Kyaw Myint and directors-general from the ministry, rectors from
institutes of medicine, officials from the Ministry of Industry-1, Ministry of
Agriculture and Irrigation and the Ministry of Forestry, consultants from
foreign countries, physicians, experts and researchers.
The minister made speech. He said experts and researchers
from home and abroad would discuss matters related to collection of poisonous
snakes, therapy for snakebites, findings on research, snake venon and antivenon,
research for specifying the biting snakes and preventive measures for curing
snakebites, and better therapies for snakebites. It would be a meritorious deed
because lives of farmers and peasants can be saved, and it was hoped that
experts and participants would gain much benefits, he added. Experts and
researchers from home and abroad were to discuss research findings and therapies
for snakebites at the two-day seminar.
Entries invited for Colour Photo Competitions
Yangon, 13 Dec - The Work Committee for Organizing the 57th Anniversary Armed Forces Day (2002) Commemorative Literary and Photo Competitions will hold the colour photo competitions titled.
"Constructive Endeavour in Myanmar" and " Appreciable Cultural
Arts'.
The entries must be 10"x12" or above in size, and for each title, up to four prints can be sent. The data and caption about the entries are to be described on a separate sheet enclosed. Entries must be own creation and must not be prize-winning works in other competitions at home or abroad. Handsome prizes will be given.
Prizes will be presented to the first, second and third prize winners in the competitions at the 57th Armed Forces Day ceremony on 27 March 2002 in Yangon and other prize winners at the ceremonies of the 57th Armed Forces Day to be held at the respective divisions and commands.

) Extended Production of Fish and Meat Committee meets
Yangon, 13 Dec- The Committee for Extended Production of Fish and Meat held a
coordination meeting at the meeting hall of the Fisheries Department on Hsinmin
Road in Ahlon Township this afternoon, attended by Chairman of the Committee
Minister for Cooperatives Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Vice-Chairman Minister for Livestock
and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein.
They discussed matters related to livestock and fish breeding tasks carried
out with assed momentum, hatching of fingerlings and increase of local demand. Then, they discussed successful implementation of the tasks by the Prawn
Breeding and Production Group, livestock breeding tasks to be carried out to
meet set standard in livestock breeding season, production and distribution of
quality fingerlings and veterinary medicines and feedstuff, providing assistance
for private breeders for the breeding of layers, broilers and ducks.Later, the chairman and the vice-chairman attended to the needs.

Yangon, 13 Dec - A ceremony to put up the Anti-AIDS billboard jointly sponsored by Anti-AIDS and Anti-Veneral Disease Control Project of the Health Department of the Ministry of Health and Ranbaxy Co was held near the Yangon General Hospital at the corner of Bogyoke Aung San Street and Pyay Road in Lanmadaw Township on 11 December morning.
Present on the occasion were officials of the Project, Medical Superintendent Dr Aung Htut of YGH and staff, the resident representative and staff of Ranbaxy Co, Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council U Aung Kyaw Myint and members, Township Health Officer Dr Daw Tin Nyunt and staff, officials of the township development affairs committee, members of the township Union Solidarity and Development Association and township Maternal and Child Welfare Association, members of the township Women's Affairs Committee, Red Cross Society, members of the township Auxiliary Fire Brigade, teachers and students, totalling 150.
