1 ) Secretary-1 inspects all-round construction work
of Mindhamma Hill
Yangon, 10 Nov - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, together with officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township, where Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image is kept, at 5.30 pm today.
The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed there by member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, deputy ministers, the Vice-Mayor, officials, experts and members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees.
The Secretary-1 paid reverence to the Image.
Managing Director of ACE Construction Co Ltd U Tint Hsan reported to the Secretary-1 on arrangements for construction of Hman-kyaung Hall, where the Image will be kept.
Then, the Secretary-1 inspected all-round construction work of Mindhamma Hill and construction of religious buildings.
The officials concerned reported on progress of work.
The Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions to the officials and left the hill in the evening.

Yangon, 10 Nov - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Mr Matthew Daley of the United States of America at the Guest House of the Ministry of Defence this morning.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Director-General of the Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and Charge d'Affaires ai of the US Embassy Ms Priscilla Clapp.

( 3 ) Myanmar delegation leaves for PRC
Yangon, 10 Nov- A Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Attorney-General U Khin Maung Aye left here by air for PRC this morning to attend the Regional Conference of Attorneys-General from Asian and European countries to be held in Guangzhou, the People's Republic of China.
The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Attorney-General U Tha Tun, Director-General of the Attorney-General's Office Dr Tun Shin and the directors, Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China Mr Tang Ying, the law officer of Yangon Division, the head of Attorney-General's Office, officials and families of the delegation.
The delegation also comprises Director of the Attorney-General's Office U Myint Naing.
Sports Minister to attend Sports Festival in PRC
Yangon, 10 Nov - Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint left here for China by air this morning to attend the 9th Chinese Sports Festival to be held till 25 November in Guangzhou, the People's Republic of China.
The minister was seen off at the Yangon International Airport by Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Myanmar Mr Li Jinjun, General Secretary of Myanmar Olympic Committee Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department U Thaung Htaik and officials.
Principal of Sports and Physical Education Institute Director U Kyaw Soe Myint and Captain Tun Myint Oo of SPED left for China on the same flight.

( 5 ) Minister inspects livestock
breeding work in Dawei
Yangon, 10 Nov-Secretary of Leading Committee for Region-wise Agricultural Development Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, accompanied by officials, inspected the incubator with a capacity of 20,000 eggs and layer breeding farm run by Dr Maung Ni in Wekyunhteinthit Ward, Dawei on 9 November. Departmental officials conducted them round the farm.
The poultry farm can produce 4,000 eggs per day and the incubator can hatch 4,500 chicks per week.
Afterwards, the minister and party inspected the chicken- run of U Kyaw Win in Kabu village, Kamyaw village-tract, Launglon Township where 6,000 chickens are kept. Officials reported to the minister on work and the minister gave necessary instructions. The chicken-run can produce 2,500 eggs daily. In the evening, the minister and party inspected cold storage with two-ton capacity per day and 25-ton capacity ice factory of Myanmar Sun Rise Company in Kabu village. Officer in-charge of the factory explained production of fish, prawn and ice. The minister inspected the cold storage and the
factory.
Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation holds tenth
communal Kathina
Yangon, 10 Nov-The tenth communal Kathina of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation was held at the ministry in Yankin Township this morning.
The congregation received the Nine Precepts from Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Lashio Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Kavindacara.
Members of the Sangha recited Parittas.
Two members of the Sangha of Weikzawtayon Sarthintaik supplicated on offering of Kathina robes.
Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin and wife, Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi and wife, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung and wife and departmental officials presented Kathina robes and offertories to members of the Sangha led by Presiding Nayaka of Sasanadhaja Siri Pavara Dhammacariya Siromani Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Vijota.
Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vijota delivered a sermon. Thirteen departments, enterprises and trading of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation presented Kathina robes and offertories worth K 7.1 million to members of the
Sangha.
Thai delegation offers Kathina robes to Sayadaws and members of the Sangha
Yangon, 10 Nov - On behalf of the King of Thailand, a Thai delegation offered Kathina robes to Sayadaws at Tipitaka Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik in Mayangon Township, this morning.
Present were State Ovadacariya Shwekyin Nikaya Joint Sasanabaing Thirimanda Sankyaung Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Rajindabhivamsa, Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Aungmyaybonsan Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pa–indabhivamsa and member Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee and Division and Township Sangha Nayaka Committee, ministers, deputy ministers, members of the Thai delegation, Chairman of Myanmar-Thai Culture and Economic Cooperation Association Lt-Gen Kyaw Than (Retd) and members, General Secretary of Thai-Myanmar Culture and Economic Cooperation Association Lt-Gen Sanan Kajornklam and members, Ambassador of Thailand Mr Oum Maolanon and the embassy staff, directors-general of departments under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Kathina robe donors, disciples and guests.
Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin and Leader of the Thai delegation Miss Sukon Kanchanalai paid homage and offered lights to the Buddha Image.
The leader of the Thai delegation also offered Shwekyathingan to the Buddha Image as a gesture to mark the offering of Kathina robes by the King of Thailand.
Then, the Kathina robe offering ceremony was opened with the three-time recitation of namo tassa.
Miss Sukon Kanchanalai explained the purpose of offering Kathina robes by King of Thailand His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Sayadaws and members of the Sangha recited Parittas.
Minister U Aung Khin offered robes and alms to Tipitakadhara Dhamma Bandagarika Bhaddanta Sumangala Lankara.
Afterwards, the well-wishers donated robes and alms to Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.
Miss Sukon Kanchanalai handed over 10,000 baht donated to the funds of Tipitaka Maha Gandayon Kyaungtaik by the King of Thailand to Minister U Aung Khin.
Ambassador Mr Oum Maolanon and Minister Raden Suwannakorn of the Thai Embassy handed over US $ 4,450 donated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and US $ 3,676.92 donated to the funds of the Kathina robe offering ceremony by the King of Thailand to Deputy Minister Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko.
General Secretary of Thai-Myanmar CECA Lt-Gen Sanan Kajornklam handed over K 500,000 and 21,200 baht and Counsellor Miss Buskorn, K 600,000, 50 FECs and US $ 100 donated by Thai families in Myanmar to the Director-General of the Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana.
Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sumangala Lankara delivered a sermon, followed by the sharing of merits.
After the ceremony, the congregation offered ÒsoonÓ to Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.

( 6 ) Armed Forces Day commemorative novel, short story and article competitions to be held
Yangon, 10 Nov-The Literary and Photo Competitions Organizing Work Committee will hold Novel, Short story and article competitions in commemoration of the 57th Anniversary Armed Forces Day.
The competitors are to write novels and short stories in accordance with the 12 fine traditions of the Tatmadaw. There is no title for the novel, short story competitions. The novel should be written within 50,000 and 70,000 words and short story 4,000 and 10,000. The title for article competition is
" Our Three Main National Causes" and to be within 3,000 and 5,000 words.
Two copies of the entry must be sent together with a brief biography of the competitor and two 1.5 by 2 inches colour photos. The entry must be own creation of the competitor. Every competitor can submit one entry each to all competitions and the first, second, third and special prizes will be presented to winners.
Those who have not won prizes will get more chances, for the first, second, third prize winners of the previous competitions are categorised as a separate group. The entry is to be sent to U Ko Ko Htwe, Secretary of the Armed Forecs Day Literary and Photo Competitions Organizing Work Committee, Myanma Radio and Television, Pyay Road, Yangon, not later than 31 January 2002.

contest
Yangon, 10 Nov-Prize presentation ceremony for
winners in the black and white, colour and digital photo contest
organized by the News and Periodicals Enterprise was held at the city
hall this morning. Present were Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi
Aung, Deputy Ministers U Thein Sein and Brig-Gen Aung Thein, advisers to
the Ministry of Information, the directors-general and managing
directors of departments and enterprises, chairmen and officials of
Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association, Myanmar Traditional Artists
and Artisans Asiayon, Myanmar Foreign Correspondents Club, Myanmar
Photographic Society, Chairman of Organizing Committee for holding the
photo contest Managing Director of NPE and members, photographers and
guests.
Managing Director U Tin Kha said the photo contest
wasÊheld with the aim of creating quality photos for publication of
postcards on significant days. Altogether 496 entries were received from
123 entrants. Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung presented prizes to winners of
the black and white photo contest (professional level). Deputy Minister
Brig-Gen Aung Thein presented prizes of winners in the black and white
photo contest (amateur level).
Deputy Minister U Thein Sein presented prizes to
winners in the colour photo contest (professional level). Chairman of
Organizing Committee for holding the photo contest Managing Director of
NPE U Tin Kha presented prizes to winners in colour photo contest
(amateur level).

Department U Chit Naing presented prizes to winners in the digital photo contest.

Regional development tasks
inspected
Yangon, 10 Nov - Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Zaw Min, accompanied by departmental officials, inspected growing
of Thitseint (Belleric Myrobalan) trees on the two-acre model plot near Bagan-NyaungU guest house, growing of Thitseint trees planted by Seikphyu Township Peace and Development Council on the model plot near Anawrahta Bridge (Chauk) in Seikphyu Township, and growing of 13,000 saplings of Thitseint tree in Myoma temporary nursery garden in the same township on 5 November.
After hearing reports presented by officials concerned, the chairman attended to the needs.
He then inspected the 5-acre late monsoon long staple cotton field of U Myo at Zeephyubin Village of cotton special zone region in Salin Township, proper drainage of spillways, and monsoon paddy fields.
Col Zaw Min met with the chairman of Salin Township Peace and Development Council and departmental officials at the office of the council, and discussed matters related to agriculture, livestock breeding and regional development tasks. Chairman of Minbu District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Tin Maung Win and officials reported on work being carried out and future tasks.
Col Zaw Min fulfilled the requirements.
He proceeded to Letme lake, from which water is supplied to 1,000 acres of paddy fields, and inspected conditions of proper drainage in Salin Township. He met with the chairman of Pwintbyu Township Peace and Development Council and departmental personnel at the office of the council, and gave instructions on agriculture and regional development work.
He next inspected the two-acre model Thitseint trees plantation in the same township.
He headed for Sandaku Nantha Kyaungdawya Pagoda, and inspected all-round renovation of the pagoda. Col Zaw Min paid reverence to the pagoda and donated cash to the pagoda funds.
Later, Col Zaw Min inspected the Sandalwood plantation and growing nurturing of 40,000 saplings of sandalwood trees in the pagoda precinct.

) Myanmar Tong Tah Trade Fair 2001 continues for third day
Yangon, 10 Nov- Myanmar Tong Tah Trade Fair 2001 jointly organized by Tong Tah Co Ltd and Dragon Exhibition Ltd with the permission of the Ministry of Commerce continued for the third day today at the Yangon Trade Centre on Pazundaung Road.
It was crowded with entrepreneurs, people and students. On display at the booth of Tong Tah Co Ltd are stationery, pumps and generators, carpentry tools and farming equipment, power saws and engines; at the booth of Tama Co Ltd, World Ace cement based putty for ceiling and wall; at the booth of Owl Internatioal PTE Ltd, Owl coffee mix, Negresco
coffee mix and Ye Ye coffee mix. The demonstration of goods are also
presented at the fair, which will continue till 11 November.
