Yangon, 18 Oct - Patron of Organizing the Ninth Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended Maha Janaka Drama Competition and watched the performance of Shwe Mann Kyi Zaw Drama Troupe of Mandalay Division Group-1 at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street in Dagon Township this evening.

Observance of 57th Anniversary Armed Forces Day
Yangon, 18 Oct The first coordination meeting of the Committee for Observance of the 57th Anniversary Armed Forces Day was held at the hall of the Ministry of Defence at 2 pm today, with an opening address by Chairman of the Leading Committee for Observance of the 57th Anniversary Armed forces Day Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint.
Also present were Chairman of the Management Committee for Observance of the 57th Anniversary Armed Forces Day member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, ministers, deputy ministers, senior military officers, chairmen, secretaries and members of the work committee and subcommittes.
The Secretary-3 made an opening speech. Secretary of the Leading Committee Deputy Adjutant-General Col Khin Soe reported on decisions approved at the work performance review meeting of the Leading Committee for Observance of the 56th Anniversary Armed Forces Day.
Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than explained plans to be carried out by the Management Committee and the requirements. Deputy Chief of Armed Forces Training (Armed Forces Training Department) Brig-Gen Aung Kyi reported on plans for the military parade. Chairman of the Committee for Exhibition of the Nation-Building Endeavours Minister at the Prime Minister's Office U Tin Winn explained preparations for the exhibition booth. Vice-Chairman of the Committee for Holding Literary and Arts Competitions Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myat Hein reported on formation of the committee and future plans.

and departmental heads, tasks of successfully observing the Armed
Forces Day. Those present took part in the discussions on observing
the ceremony magnificently. The meeting came to a close with the
concluding remarks by the Secretary-3.
Ninth Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions continue for fourth day
Yangon, 18 Oct-The Ninth Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions continued for the fourth day at the respective venues today.
The song competition of the Ninth Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions was held at the National Museum on Pyay Road in Dagon Township; the dance competition at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street in Dagon Township; the song composing competition at the Kanbawza Theatre of the Fine Arts Department on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in Bahan Township; and the music competition at the Padonma Theatre in Sangyoung Township and the Kanbawza Theatre.
Present at the competitions were Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, member of the Panel of Patrons of the Ninth Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions Chairman of the Leading Committee for Organizing the Competitions member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Vice-Chairman of the Leading Committee Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt and members of the Leading Committees, Chairman of the Working Committee for Organizing the Competitions Commander of No 3 Military Region Col Yan Naing Oo and members, chairmen and members of the subcommittees, senior military officers, heads of department, teachers and students and enthusiasts.
At the singing competition held at the National Museum, altogether 16 contestants took part in the amateur level (men) religious song competition with the song
"Maggin Shitpa.'
In the afternoon, 16 contestants participated in the higher education level (women) singing competition with the song
"Thitagu."
Chairperson of the Panel of Judges Daw Tin Tin Mya supervised the competition.
The amateur level (men) classical song competition and the basic education level (boys aged 5-10) religious song competition will be held at the same venue tomorrow.
The dance competition held at the National Theatre was supervised by Chairman of the Panel of Judges Wunna Kyaw Htin U Sein Aung Min.
Altogether 15 contestants took part in the basic education level (girls aged 15-20) dance competition.
In the afternoon, 15 contestants took part in the basic education level (boys aged 5-10) dance competition.
The amateur level (women) dance competition and the higher education level (men) dance competition will be held at the National Theatre tomorrow.
The song composing competition was held at the Kanbawza Theatre this morning.
The contestants of the basic education level (aged 5-10) and (aged 10-15) song composing competitions practised singing the songs which they composed.
Chairman of the Panel of Judges Bogalay U Tint Aung supervised the competition.
The contestants of the higher education level and basic education level (aged 15-20) song composing competitions will practise the songs which they composed at the same venue tomorrow. The music competition was held at the Padonma Theatre this morning.
Altogether 15 contestants took part in the amateur level (men) individual saing competition, and six contestants the higher education level (men) individual saing competition.
Chairman of the Panel of Judges U Sein Hla Myaing supervised the music competition.
The basic education level (girls aged 10-15) individual saing competition, the higher education (women) individual saing competition and the basic education level (girls aged 15-20) individual saing competition will be held at the same venue tomorrow.
The xylophone competition was held at the Kanbawza Theatre this morning.
Altogether 15 contestants participated in the basic education level (girls aged 10-15) xylophone competition.
In the afternoon, eight contestants took part in the basic education level (boys aged 15-20) xylophone competition.
Altogether 14 contestants took part in the basic education level (girls aged 5-10) xylophone competition.
Chairman of the Panel of Judges Saung U Yi Nwe supervised the competition. The professional level (men), the amateur level (women) and the basic education level (boys aged 10-15) xylophone competitions will be held at the same venue tomorrow.

Cooperative Promoters' Bank holds meeting
Yangon, 18 Oct - The fifth general meeting of the shareholders of the Cooperative
Promoters' Bank Ltd was held at the Ministry of Cooperatives on Bogyoke Aung San Street here this afternoon.
Chairman of the Cooperative Promoters' Bank Ltd U Hla Kyu gave the opening address.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San said as it is an cooperative institution, the bank staff should strive to realize the goals through collective leadership and endeavours. Efforts should be made in accord with the principles and rules and regulations to strengthen the financial capacity of the bank. It is required for the bank to become a reliable financial institution for the cooperative syndicates to promote their business.

Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint made a speech
at the ceremony to present cash for the disabled athletes who will
took part in the First ASEAN Games for the Disabled, at Padamya hall
of National Stadium-1 here this afternoon. Deputy Minister for
Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Hlaing Win, Vice-Chairman
of the MOC Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo and members,
President of Myanmar Disabled Sports Federation Brig-Gen Aung Thein
and executives, invited guests and donors attended the ceremony. The
Yangon City Development Committee presented K 2 million, U Kyu
family Wheat Mill K 1 million, the Ministry of Agriculture and
Irrigation K 750,000, the Social Welfare Department K 750,000 and
the Great Wall Co K 350,000 to the minister. Deputy Minister U
Hlaing Win accepted donations of five wellwishers, Vice

( 5 ) Mayor inspects Uto-Kya-in Farm
Yangon, 18 Oct - Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor of Yangon U Koy Lay, accompanied by officials, inspected agriculture and livestock breeding projects in Uto- Kya-in region in Taikkyi Township,Yangon Division, this morning.
Afterwards, the Mayor inspected Hydrology and Meteorology Station and gave necessary instructions.
Then, the Mayor and party inspected the vegetable plantations cultivated in the green houses and gave instructions on extension of platations of peppers and grapes. He next inspected the breeding of fresh-water prawnlings.
Later, the mayor inspected the production of briquettes and milling
of paddy at the 25-ton Rice Mill No 2 and gave necessary
instructions.

Commander inspects schools in Thandwe
Yangon, 18 Oct-Chairman of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen Aung Htwe, accompanied by Brig-Gen Kyi Thein of Taungup Station and departmental officials, arrived at the construction site of a tower in the precinct of Aungzayathukha Pagoda near Kaingshay village in Taungup Township at 2 pm on 15 October.
At the briefing hall, In-charge of the project Lt-Col Myint Oo reported to the commander on progress of work and plans to be carried out. The commander fulfilled the requirements. The five-storey tower will be constructed at a cost of K 8.3 million.
The commander visited Basic Education High School (Ngapali) and No 1 Basic Education Middle School in Thandwe in the afternoon of 16 October. He inspected preparatory work for opening multi-media teaching centres and fulfilled the needs. He donated a television set and a computer set to Basic Education High School (Ngapali), Thandwe, and K 500,000 to No 1 Basic Education Middle School.
Commander inspects dam, herbal plantations in PyinOoLwin
Township
Yangon, 18 Oct-Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint inspected Sitha Dam near Sitha Village in PyinOoLwin Township on 16 October.
Accompanied by departmental officials, the commander arrived at Sitha Dam and inspected the storage of water and gave necessary instructions to officials.
The dam can store 1900 acre-feet of water, and it is now storing that amount of water.
The commander then proceeded to the herbal garden of the Medical Research Department (Upper Myan-mar) near Sitha Village.
He inspected the growing of herbal saplings, progress of construction work, cultivation of flowering plants and shade trees and fulfilled the requirements.
A total of 395 species of herbs have been grown in the garden.

" Soon" offered to members of the Sangha in Monywa
Yangon, 18 Oct - Chairman of Sagaing
Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West
Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, together with officials, arrived at
Mani-yadanabon Kyaungtaik on Thasi Street in Monywa at 11 am on 13
October. The commander supplicated on religious matters to the
Presiding Sayadaw and fulfilled the requirements of members of the
Sangha. Then, the commander and wife, the deputy commander and
officials offered "soon' to Sayadaws and 111 members of the Sangha.
At 11 am on 15 October, the commander, accompanied by officials,
arrived at Yankin Kyaungtaik in Monywa and offered "soon" to
Sayadaws and 182 members of the Sangha. The commander also attended
to the needs of members of the Sangha.
Commander attends conclusion ceremony of Applied Basic Computer Course
Yangon, 18 Oct-The Applied Basic Computer Course sponsored by Union Solidarity and Development Association of Ayeyawady Division, Myanmar Police Force, Bureau of Special Investigation and Prisons Department of Ayeyawady Division concluded at the Office of the USDA in Pathein on 16 October.
It was attended by Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, division level departmental officials, USDA members, course instructors, trainees and guests.
Patron of the USDA Commander Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann made a speech on the occasion, and presented prizes to the outstanding trainees.
Then, Secretary of the USDA U Than Tun presented completion certificates to trainees while Commander of Ayeyawady Division Myanmar Police Force Police Col Than Tun presented gifts to course instructors.
Later, a trainee, on behalf of the trainees, spoke words of thanks.
On 17 October, the commander attended the work coordination meeting between Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council and division/district/township engineers and road/bridge engineers of Ayeyawady Division Public Works held at the Meeting Hall-1 of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council.
Superintending Engineer U Ye Myint Swe of Ayeyawady Division Public Works and officials reported on work being carried out and future tasks.

Commander meets with departmental personnel, townselders and organizations in Myitkyina
Yangon, 18 Oct - The meeting No 9/2001 of the chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council, Kachin State, District and Township level departmental officials, townselders and members of social organizations was held at the Town Hall in Myitkyina on 12 October.
It was attended by Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, Secretary Lt-Col Myint Thein and members, local authorities, townselders, members of social organizations.
The commander made a speech. Then, officials concerned discussed the reports of the previous meeting. The townselders reported on regional development work. The commander attended to their needs.
The commander presented cash awards to those who successfully carried out pig and fish raising of Kachin State Peace and Development Council for sufficiency of fish and meat in Kachin State through the officials, and the ceremony came to an end.
Provisions donated to members of the Sangha in Taunggyi
Yangon, 18 Oct - Taunggyi Township held its sixth ceremony to donate rice and provisions to members of the Sangha at Myole Dhammayon of Atula Marazein Hsutaungpyi Buddha Image in Taunggyi on 16 October afternoon.
Present on the occasion were member of the State Ovadacariya Agga Maha Pandita Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Theintaung Sayadaw Bhad-danta Chandadhika and members of the Sangha, Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo, Deputy Commander Col Myint Aung, senior military officers, Shan State level departmental officials, the patron of Shan State Supervisory Committee for Maternal and Child Welfare Association and members, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross Society, Auxiliary Fire Brigade, Wut associations, twonselders and wellwishers.
The ceremony was opened with three-time recitation of Namo Tassa. Then, Theintaung Sayadw invested the congregation with the Five Precepts. Members of the Sangha recited the parittas.
The commander supplicated on religious affairs to the Sayadaw.
Afterwards, Chairman of Fund Raising Sub-committee for offering rice U Sun Kyaing supplicated on offering rice and alms donated by local regiments and units under Eastern Command, departmental personnel and wellwishers form 20 wards in Taunggyi to monasteries, nunneries and Parahita Gehas.
The commander, officials and wellwisers presented rice and provisions to members of the Sangha and nuns.
Later, Theintaung Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by the sharing of merits gained.
Today's donations Ñ rice and provisions valued at over K 3.86 million donated by wellwishers of Taunggyi Township went to 3,096 members of the Sangha of 73 monasteries, 171 nuns of six nunneries and Parahita Gehas.
Small-scale dams being built in Yenangyoung
Yangon, 18 Oct - Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Zaw Min inspected Yanpe Dam near Wetkathe village, Taung-dwingyi Township, on 14 October.
Officials reported to him on digging of canals, irrigation and cultivation of cold season crops.
Accompanied by officials, Col Zaw Min inspected inflow of water, construction of the outlet conduit of the dam's main feeder canal. The dam can hold 35,140 acre-feet of water.
The next morning, Col Thein Zaw paid respects to Myathalun Pagoda in Magway. He urged officials to ensure every convenience to the pilgrims and to keep the pagoda platform clean.
At Myamyintza Dham-mathabin Hall of the pagoda, Col Zaw Min attended the religious verses recitation contest sponsored by Magway Division Women's Affairs Committee. He gave a speech. An official explained the rules and regulations of the contest.
Thirty-nine teams from the departments, wards, schools and religious associations took part in the contest.
In the afternon, Col Zaw Min inspected construction of 227-acre-feet capacity Taungbetchaung Dam and inflow of water at a 190-acre-feet capacity dam in Yenangyoung. He looked into the requirements of the officials.
Small-scale dams are being constructed in Yenangyoung Township to supply drinking water and for regional greening. Altogether 15 dams have been built to date. Various species of fish are being bred in the lakes, and trees are being grown at the watershed areas and the surrounding areas.
He then inspected the construction of Traditional Medicine Hospital at Aung Zeya

) Third leg of Myanmar London Golf
Tourney 25-28 October in Mawlamyine
Yangon, 18 Oct - The third leg of Myanmar London Golf Tournament 2001-2002, jointly organized by Myanmar Golf Federation and Myanmar Professional Golfers Association, will be held on a grand scale at Ngan Tay Golf Club in Mawlamyine, Mon State, from 25 to 28 October.
