Yangon, 11 Sept- Special Refresher Course No 11 for Basic Education Teachers concluded in Yadana Hall of the Central Institute of Civil Service (Upper Myanmar) in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Division this morning with an address by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, the ministers, the Chairman of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board, the deputy ministers, the Chief of Staff (Air), the Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee Mandalay Mayor, members of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of departments, chairmen and members of Mandalay Division, District and Township Peace and Development Councils, Rector of CICS (Upper Myanmar) Col Aung Hsan Win, the pro-rectors, heads of department, course instructors and trainee teachers.

In his address, the Secretary-1 said that it is believed that when the teachers who have completed the special refresher course conducted by the government with lofty aims resume their duties, they will be able to carry out the national duty of the education sector all the more with new ideas, outlook and strength. While making every effort to enable the Union of Myanmar to stand shoulder to shoulder with other nations in the international setting, the State Peace and Development Council is implementing national education promotion programmes systematically in order to enhance the quality of the education sector, the main driving force for all-round development, and raise the momentum of progress. In this regard, radical reform has been carried out without letting educational outlook, ideas, educational goals and working programmes be deprived of national essence, thereby setting up new records in the history of Myanmar education.

Therefore, teachers, organizing and leading student youths and the people, are required to be in the vanguard of the activities of the education sector which will go down in history, and to try their level best to achieve the lofty aims of the education sector in Myanmar. At the same time, efforts are being exerted to enable the education sector to contribute to the development of the economic, production and social sectors. In the education sector, systematic measures are being taken for the development of agriculture, forestry, livestock breeding and technologies in keeping with the changing situation of the world, for the development of economics, trading and management in accord with the economic system being practised by the government and for the development of advanced education, science and technology and research work. Therefore, students are being trained to be able to fulfil the needs of Myanma society in which they live. The education promotion programmes can enable the society to be linked with classrooms, and individual students to pursue what they like in accord with their hobby and talent. Thus, students are being moulded to be able to go far in life, thereby contri-buting to the development of the nation.

The government is implementing political, economic and social objectives which can promote national interests on the basis of the great history of the nation and the people, current situations, future prospects and international changing events. For the emergence of an education system which can contribute to the realization of the political, economic and social objectives, national education promotion programmes, the special four-year plan for promotion of national education standard and long-term national educational projects are being implemented. Therefore, teachers are required to strive for the success of the education promotion programmes and national education projects, adopting the attitude that the successful realization of educational aims amounts to promotion of national interests. All are to make every efforts to achieve educational aims so that the Union of Myanmar can keep abreast with other nations in the process of globalization which is taking shape at a blistering pace and keep independence and sovereignty in perpetuation. The youths of today have an aspiration to pursue education and to succeed in life, and teachers are to make all-out efforts for the development of the nation by fulfilling the wish of student youths.

In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged the teachers to strive for the emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation and the success of education promotion programmes designed for the development of human resources which play an fundamental role in enabling the motherland to stand tall in the world, to nurture student youths to have high morale and to be highly qualified and to inculcate in student youths patriotism, a sense of national solidarity and Union spirit which are main strengths to enable the Union to exist long and to keep abreast with other nations in terms of development.

Then, the Secretary-1 presented model trainee awards to senior assistant teacher U Shwe of Nwahtogyi Basic Education High School, Mandalay Division, and junior assistant teacher Daw Kyi Kyi Myint No (13) BEHS, Maha Aungmye Township, Mandalay Division, awards for diligence to assistant lecturer U Thein Myint of Mandalay Education Collage, assistant lecturer Daw Khin San Myint of Meikhtila Education Collage and JAT Daw Aye Aye Myint of No (1) BEHS, Sarlingyi Township, Sagaing Division. The Secretary-1 also presented model hostel awards to hostel No 3 of men's company-1 and hostel No 3 of women's company-1 and course completion certificates to the trainee teachers. Then, the Secretary-1 accepted donations made by the trainees- K 10,000 to the fund for the Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image; K 10,000 to the Mandalay Buddha's Relic Tooth Pagoda; K 10,000 to the fund for repair of Bagan ancient pagodas and K 5,000 to the fund of USDA; K 10,000 to Zibingyi village BEHS (branch). Afterwards, the Secretary-1 cordially greeted with the trainees.

Secretary-1 attends ceremony to construct Mandalay-Meiktila road section of Yangon-Mandalay Union Highway

Yangon, 11 Sept- Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by the ministers, the chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board, the deputy ministers, Chief of Staff (Air), officials of the State Peace and Development Council office and departmental officials, yesterday left here for Mandalay and arrived at Mandalay International Airport in TadaU Township at 1.30 pm.

The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee Mandalay Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, senior military officers and departmental officials. The Secretary-1 and party went to Sagaing by helicopter and arrived there at 2.15 pm. They were welcomed by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North- West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, senior military officers and departmental officials. The Secretary-1 attended the opening ceremony of Hong Pang factory in the Industrial Zone in Sagaing. Also present were division, district and township level officials, U Pauk Yu Yi and party of Wa national group, members of the board of directors of Hong Pang Co, staff and local people. Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win, Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and U Pauk Yu Yi of Wa national group formally opened the factory.

The Secretary-1 formally unveiled the signboard of the factory. The Secretary-1 also unveiled the stone plaque of Hong Pang Group of Companies. Director U Khin Maung Myint of Hong Pang Group of Companies reported on organizational setup, agriculture and livestock breeding, running of the factory, staff and supply of raw materials and production of finished goods. The Secretary-1 expressed thanks to regional authorities and government departments for opening of the factory. Products of the factory are import substitutes being produced with the encouragement of the government. The factory can produce goods of affordable prices needed for the people and there will be job opportunities for local people, he said. The government had decentralized the economic system and promoted the role of national private economic enterprises. So, there are a lot of opportunities for the private sector, he added.

At this time, he said, economic enterprises of Hong Pang Co Ltd which serve the interests of the State, the people and company are meeting with success. He said the company runs factories in the industrial zone in Sagaing Division and engages in agriculture and livestock breeding in Monghsat, Tachilek, Kengtung, Nawn-ghkio and Hsipaw regions and agricultural activities are being extended in Mandalay and Bagan-NyaungU regions. He said undertaking of vast production work contri-butes toward not only the manufacture of import substitute goods and improvement of job opportunities but also State economy and production work. The Secretary-1 wished success for the company and for the interest of the State. The Secretary-1 and party then inspected display of the bales of cotton, electric wire, cables and electrical equipment, gas lighters, CDs, VCDs, sanitation equipment and feedstuff.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected production of households cables and telephone cables and CDs and VCDs. The Secretary-1 and party inspected production of fluorescent lamps and other equipment. The factories of Hong Pang Co Ltd produces wires, cables, frames of fluorescent lamps and other electrical equipment. The VCD Disk Factory produces 800 CDs per hour. Hong Pang Textile Factory produces cottons ranging between 6,000 lbs and 10,000 lbs. The gas lighter factory produces three million gas lighters per month. Arrangements are being made for six million gas lighters per months. The agricultural product finishing factory produces brooms and sanitation equipment which are sold in foreign market. The Hong Pang Groups of Companies are now engaged in pig and poultry farming in Nawnghkio and PyinOoLwin, agriculture in Mandalay Division, Lashio and Hsipaw and Bagan NyaungU. The Secretary-1 and party went to Paleik Township by helicopter. They were welcomed by Deputy Commander of Central Command Brig-Gen Nay Win and senior military officers and departmental officials. The Secretary-1 and party attended a ceremony to construct Mandalay-Meiktila road section of the six-lane Yangon-Mandalay Union Highway by Hong Pang Co.

The ceremony was held near Myitnge River Bridge in Paleik. Present were departmental officials of Mandalay Division and District, Chairmen of Kyaukse, Singaing, Myittha and TadaU Township Peace and Development Councils, members of Union Solidarity and Development Associations, members of Myanmar War Veterans Organization, Women's Affairs Committee, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigade, service personnel, members of pom pom troupes, members of Kyaukse elephant dance troupe, local people and members of the Board of Directors.

Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Managing Director of Hong Pang Construction Co Ltd U Khin Maung Myint formally opened launching ceremony. Heavy machineries and other vehicles left for the worksite. Managing Director of Hong Pang Construction Co Ltd U Khin Maung Myint reported on preparatory work for construction of Mandalay-Meiktila road section, targets and arrangements in accord with set standard. Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint reported on construction of Mandalay-Meiktila road section and providing facilities for early completion of the project. The Secretary-1 fulfilled the requirements and gave instructions. The Secretary-1 met staff and inspected heavy machinery. Hong Pang Construction Co Ltd will construct 94-mile Mandalay-Meiktila road section. It is expected to complete 47 miles in 2001-2002 and the rest in 2002-2003. The Secretary-1 and party spent the night in Mandalay.

 Secretary-1 attends ceremony to donate cash to Jivitadana trust fund and offer "soon" to members of the Sangha of Mandalay Masoeyein Taikthit

Yangon, 11 Sept- A ceremony to donate cash to Jivitadana trust fund for members of the Sangha led by the Rector Sayadaw of Masoeyein Taikthit in Mandalay was held in conjunction with "soon" offering at the Taikthit at 6.30 am today. Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony and donated cash to the trust fund. Also present were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, the ministers, the chairman of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board, the deputy ministers, the Chief of Staff (Air), officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads, local authorities and wellwishers.

The Secretary-1, the commander, the ministers and members and wellwishers offered "soon" to 2,627 members of the Sangha. State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Vice-Chairman Rector Sayadaw of Mandalay Masoeyein Taikthit in Mandalay Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Sirindabhivamsa administered the Five Precepts. The Secretary-1 presented offertories to the Rector Sayadaw. The commander, the ministers and wellwishers presented offertories to members of the Sangha. The Secretary-1 presented K 1 million  K 500,000 donated by the State Peace and Development Council and K 500,000 by the National Health Committee for Jivitadana trust fund for members of the Sangha of Masoeyein Taikthit to the commander.

The Secretary-1 accepted K 10,904,300 including K 200,000 donated by Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council, K 100,000 by Mandalay City Development Committee, K 2.2 million by families of intelligence units, K 2 million by Daw Houn, Daw Kyin Aye and family; K 1 million by U Mya Maung, Daw Khin Khin Kyu and family; K 1 million by U Shwe-Daw Hla Yee and family; K 500,000 each by U Tun Sein & family and U Kyaw Myint & family; K 300,000 by U Maung Maung, Daw Tin Tin May and family; K 200,000 by U Maung Ko, Daw Shwe U and family; K 108,810 by Dr Daw Myint Myint Thein and family and K 100,000 each by U Ohn Pyay, Daw Khin Tint and family; U Yee Arnt, Daw Hla U and family; U Kyaw Win, Daw Thein Thein and family; U Win Tun, Daw Pale Thwe and family; U Myo Myint, Ma Myint Myint Aye and family, Jade Dragon Co (Mandalay) and U Kyin Sein-Daw Thein Thein Nwe. The Rector Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by the sharing of merits gained. After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 viewed construction of the artesian well for supply of drinking water being undertaken by MCDC for the Taikthit, progress in construction of Dhamma Maheiddi four-storey Soonsar Kyaungsaung and the opening of a clinic for members of the Sangha on the ground floor of the four-storey building in the precinct of Mandalay Masoeyein Taikthit and gave instructions to the officials.

( 3Secretary-1 attends cornerstones laying ceremony for Myanmar Canaan Farmers' Training Centre

Yangon, 11 Sept- Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony to donate cash to the medical trust fund for members of the Sangha at Masoeyein Taikthit, Mandalay, this morning. After presenting cash to the trust fund, the Secretary-1, together with Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint, the ministers and members, arrived at the construction site of Mandalay Railway Station at 7.30 am.

They were welcomed there by Deputy General Manager (Transport) of Mandalay Myanma Railways Division No 3 U Tun Aung Thin and officials. The Secretary-1 inspected progress in construction of the railway station, and officials concerned conducted the Secretary-1 round the station. At the briefing hall, the Secretary-1 heard a report by the Deputy General Manager on progress in construction of the station, financial statements and future tasks. The commander gave a supplementary report. The Secretary-1 gave instructions on systematically carrying out tasks for timely completion of the project. The Secretary-1 then attended and addressed the closing ceremony of Special Refresher Course No 11 for Basic Education Teachers of the Central Institute of Civil Service (Upper Myanmar). The Secretary-1 and party later went to the site chosen for construction of Myanmar Canaan Farmers' Training Centre in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Division, at 11.30 am. The centre is to be constructed and donated by the Canaan Farmers' School of the Republic of Korea to mark Myanmar-Korea friendly relations for the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation.

The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed there by Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, members of Mandalay Division and PyinOoLwin District Peace and Development Councils, the commander of PyinOoLwin Station, senior military officers, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Mr Chung Jung-gun, Chairman of the Canaan Farmers' School and members, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Council, staff, drum troupe and local residents. At the briefing hall, Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin reported on arrangements and signing with the chairman and members of the Canaan FarmersŐ School for construction of Myanmar Canaan Farmer's Training Centre, which will produce agricultural experts for agricultural work of Myanmar. Chairman of the School Mr Kim Bum-il explained the purpose of the donation for the construction. Later, tasks being carried out by the School were presented with the use of audio visual aids.

The Secretary-1 said that the construction of the Centre contributes toward the progress of the agricultural sector in Myanmar. The cornerstone laying ceremony then followed, and the Secretary-1 and party took position at designated places. The Secretary-1 put the silver casket with nine different kinds of gems in the middle of the foundation. The Secretary-1, the commander, Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister Lt-Gen Min Thein, Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, the Korean Ambassador and Mr Kim Bum-il laid cornerstones at the designated places at the same time. After laying the inscribed plaque on the foundation, the Secretary-1 sprinkled scented water on it.

After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 performed rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the success of the ceremony. The Secretary-1 and party proceeded to the Medical Research Department (Upper Myanmar) of the Ministry of Health in PyinOoLwin Township at 12.30 pm where they were welcomed by the director-general, directors and officials. At the briefing hall, the Secretary-1 heard a report by Director-General of the Department Dr Myint Lwin on carrying out researches, cooperation with other departments for doing researches and providing assistance for researchers. Deputy Minister Professor Dr Mya Oo presented a supplementary report.

The Secretary-1 said potent formulae of traditional medicines which can cure common diseases in Myammar are to be sought through research. Arrangements are being made to produce medicine from artemisia annua plants for treatment of malaria and research work is to be done to acquire potent medicine. He spoke of continued research work on common diseases in upper Myanmar. The Secretary-1 and party viewed the herbal plants garden of the department, in which 36,023 herbal plants of 395 kinds of traditional medicines are planted for research work. The Secretary-1 and party left PyinOoLwin by car and arrived at Mandalay in the afternoon. They left Mandalay by Tatmadaw aircraft and arrived at Yangon in the evening.

Secretary-1 hosts dinner in honour of Korean guests

Yangon, 11 Sept- Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt hosted a dinner in honour of Chairman of the Cannan Farmers' School Mr Kim Bum-il and party of the Republic of Korea at Karaweik Palace at 8 pm today. Also present at the dinner were ministers, Chairman of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board, deputy ministers, heads of department, Chairman of the Cannan Farmers' School Mr Kim Bum-il and party and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Union of Myanmar Mr Chung Jung-gum. Before the dinner, the guests were entertained to Myanma traditional dance.

Deputy Prime Minister receives Russian Ambassador

Yangon, 11 Sept- On behalf of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council, Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun received Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Union of Myanmar Mr Gleb A Ivashentsov who has completed his tour of duty here, at the guest house of the Ministry of Defence at 2 pm today. Minister Brig-Gen Abel leaves for Hanoi

Yangon, 11 Sept- Leader of Myanmar delegation Minister for ASEAN Economic Affairs Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel left for Hanoi, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, this morning to attend the 33rd ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting which will be held from 12 to 16 September there. Minister Brig-Gen Abel was seen off at the Yangon International Airport by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung and Vietnamese Ambassador Mr Pham Quang Khon. Together wiht Minister Brig-Gen Abel, Myanmar Ambassador U Khin Aung and Director-General of National AFTA Unit of the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development U Maung Maung Yi will attend the meeting. Before the Economic Ministerial Meeting, Senior Officials Meeting was held from 7 to 8 September. Director-General U Maung Maung Yi left here on 6 September to attend the meeting.

Yangon, 11 Sept- Chairman of the Central Committees for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing and secretaries of Work Committees of the CCDAC attended a coordiantion meeting held at the hall of Myanmar Police Force (Headquarters) of the Minisrty of Home Affairs this afternoon. Also present on the occasion were Chairman of Supervisory Committee for Work Committees of the CCDAC Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Secretary Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, directors-general and managing directors from work committees, and chairmen and officials from Myanmar Anti-Narcotics Association and Border Areas Development Association.

Yangon, 11 Sept- Member of Parliament of Japan Mr Kiyohiko Toyoma and Japanese Ambassador Mr Shigeru Tsumori called on Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein at the minister's office at 10 am today. Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Union of Myanmar Mr Pham Quang Khon also called on the minister at the same venue at 11 am today. Also present at the calls were Deputy Minister for Health Professor Dr Kyaw Myint and officials.

( 6 Training Course on Computerized Medical Records and International Encoding System of Diseases opened

Yangon, 11 Sept- The opening ceremony of the Training Course on Computerized Medical Records and International Encoding System of Diseases was held at the hall of the Health Planning Department of the Ministry of Health on Theinbyu Road here this morning, attended by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein. Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minster for Health Prof Dr Kyaw Myint, directors-general and deputy directors-general, rectors, directors, medical superintendents form the ministry, Resident Representative of WHO Dr Agostino Borra and officials, invited guests and 32 trainees from hospitals that use the computerized system.

The minister said Information Technology is rapidly developing and widely used in the whole world today; it must be used in health sector to speed up the momentum and to promote the quality of public health care services in Myanmar; and this is the first course in lower Myanmar; and connections with the hospitals in ASEAN region and international hospitals will be made by using computer network. The trainees are to try their utmost at the course and to inform their progress of skills to the ministry which will duly recognize them, he added. Then, Dr Agostino Borra made a speech and the ceremony came to a close. The minister and guests viewed the computer class-room and greeted the trainees.

Minister for Education honours students

Yangon, 11 Sept- A ceremony to honour the students who took part in the Exhibition of IT Students' View on Myanmar of the Ministry of Education held at Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wizara Road, here, and students who attended the get-togethers of youths held abroad, was held at Diamond Jubilee Hall on Pyay Road in Kamayut Township this morning. Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister U Myo Nyunt, directors-general and chairmen from the ministry, rectors, township education officers, headmasters, volunteers who gave assistance to the exhibition, invited guests, teachers and students attended the ceremony.

The ceremony was opened and the minister presented certificates of honour to students and principals from basic education schools and universities who participated in the exhibition, and volunteers. Afterwards, students, who attended the 13th Get-together of Students in Asia and Pacific region held at Fukuoka in Japan, the Korea-Asean Youth Cooperation Exchange Programme 2001 held at Seoul in Korea and the second ASEAN Students Get-together held in Singapore, recounted their experiences and re-staged their performances in foreign countries. Then, experiences on the exhibition was explained by Maung Zeya Aung Moe Thein of No 1 BEHS, PyinOoLwin. Ma Su Pon Chit of No 1 BEHS, Nyaungdon in Ayeyawady Division was pronounced the most favourite student of the exhibition and the minister presented K 10,000 to her.

( 7Myanmar to participate in trade fair of Iraq

Yangon, 11 Sept- A coordiantion meeting on taking part in the trade fair to be held in Baghdad, the Republic of Iraq, was held at the meeting hall No 1 of the Ministry of Commerce yesterday afternoon, with an address by Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan. Also present were departmental heads, officials of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, entrepreneurs, private cooperative society associations and guests. Director-General of Directorate of Trade U Nyunt Aye explained facts about taking part in the trade fair, followed by a general round of discussions. The meeting ended with concluding remarks by the deputy minister.

Lashio Consumer Products Expo 2001 to be held

Yangon, 11 Sept- With the permission of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council, Dragon Exhibition Ltd will hold Lashio Consumer Products Expo 2001 at the City Hall of Lashio from 19 to 23 September. Garments from home and abroad, cosmetics and personal goods, plastic wares, foodstuff, electric and electronic devices, construction materials, household goods, stationery, papers, materials for packing, small gadgets, skin lotions, sports equipment and various kinds of service will be shown at the expo together with model show of Super Star Model Agency.

( 8 SEA Games continues

Yangon, 11 Sept- The boxing matches of the XXI SEA Games were held in Malaysia yesterday afternoon, and Kyaw Swa Win of Myanmar beat S T Singdeng of Laos in 48-kilo division, and S Nkbalee defeated Zaw Lin Tun in 60-kilo division. In men's first round of golf, Phillipino Pagusan was leading the course with 67 strokes. Win Htwe Hlaing scored 74, Nanda Kyaw 77, Zaw Zaw Latt 78 and Zaw Zin Win 80. Myanmar beat Laos 3-0 in men's Sepak Takraw tournament. Thailand beat Myanmar 3-0 in men's table tennis tournament and Myanmar beat Singapore 2-1 in men's tennis. Thailand defeated Myanmar 3-2 in men's volleyball.

Myanmar football teams advance to semifinals

Yangon, 11 Sept- The Myanmar team was defeated 3-1 by the Thai team at the final match in Group (A) of the men's football tournament of the XXI SEA Games yesterday evening. After the matches of Group (A), Thailand stood first, and Myanmar second. On 13 September, the former will play against the team that stood second, and the latter against the team that stood first in Group (B). The Myanmar team held a 1-1 draw with the Thai team in the women's football final match in the group. Drawing lots made the Thais stand first and the Myanmar second. The semifinals of the women's football teams will be held on 12 September. The Thai and the Indonesians will play the first semifinal at 5 pm and the Myanmar will play against the Vietnamese for the second semifinal at 8.45 pm.

( 9Heroin traffickers get 45, 20 years

Yangon, 11 Sept- Members of local intelligence unit and Muse Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, stopped and searched a car going from Haymoelon Village to Muse driven by Wai Tant and found 40 blocks of heroin weighting 29 kilos at the entrance of Muse on 27 September 2000. Action was taken against Wai Tant, 22, son of U Toe Tin Chi, and Laukse, 24, son of U Yee Sant of Haymoelon Village in Muse under Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Law by Muse Police Station. Muse District Court handed down five years' imprisonment under Section 15 and 40 years' imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on Wai Tant to serve separately, and 20 years' imprisonment under section 19 (A)/21 on Laukse on 26 June.
