Yangon, 30 Aug- The Tatmadawmen and families of Army, Navy and Air Force and the public presented provisions and cash donations to 66 monasteries in Thayettaw, Lanmadaw Township, Yangon West District, here this afternoon.
Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint attended the ceremony which was held at the Pariyatti Aletaik monastery in Thayettaw Kyaungtaik.

They were welcomed at the airport by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint and wife Dr Tin Lin Myint, Mayor of Mandalay Brig-Gen Yan Thein and wife, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Nay Win and wife, senior military officers and departmental officials.

Appointment of Ambassador agreed on
Yangon, 31 Aug- The Government of the Union of Myanmar has agreed to the proposed appointment of Mr Ulrik Helweg-Larsen as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Denmark to the Union of Myanmar.
Mr Ulrik Helweg-Larsen was born in 1945 and obtained an MA Degree in Law. He joined the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1972. Then he served in various capacities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen and Danish Embassies in Bonn and Hanoi upto 1990.
Mr Ulrik Helweg-Larsen was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Royal Danish Embassy at Bucharest in 1990. Subsequently in 1994, Ambassador Helweg-Larsen served as Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen. He served as Ambassador of Denmark to Czech Republic from 1998 to 2000. He will be concurrently accredited to the Union of Myanmar with residence in Bangkok, the Kingdom of
Thailand.

Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation meets SEA Games-bound athletes
Yangon, 30 Aug- Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin met the selected athletes from the ministry who will take part in the XXI SEA Games at the meeting hall of the ministry yesterday afternoon.
Also present on the occasion were directors-general and managing directors of the ministry, officials and the selected athletes.
The selected athletes were introduced to the minister, who spoke words of encouragement. Then, the minister presented K 50,000 each totalling K 1 million to the athletes.
Myanmar will participate in 24 events in the SEA Games and 20 athletes from the ministry will take part in eight events shooting, football, archery, Sepak Takraw, swimming, track and field, weight-lifting, and
boxing.
Work coordinated to hold 55th World Body Building Championship
Yangon, 30 Aug- The Leading Committee for Organizing the 55th World Body Building Championship held its second work coordination meeting at the National Indoor Stadium-1 this afternoon with an address by Chairman of the Leading Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint.

( 5 ) Cash donated to the fund of health care services
Yangon, 30 Aug- A ceremony to donate cash to the Ministry of Health by the Association of Japan Myanmar Mutual Cooperation was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Health on Pyidaungsu Yeiktha Road, Dagon Township, Yangon, at 8 am today.
Present on the occasion were Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Deputy Ministers Prof Dr Mya Oo and Prof Dr Kyaw Myint, directors-general of departments under the ministry, deputy directors-general, departmental officials and members of the Association of Japan Myanmar Mutual Cooperation.
On the occasion, scientist of the Association of Japan Myanmar Mutual Cooperation Professor Dr Ishii explained the purpose of the donation.
Then, Professor Dr Ishii, on behalf of the group of scientists of the Association of Japan Myanmar Mutual Cooperation, donated ´ 300,000 to the fund of the health care services of the ministry.
Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein accepted the cash and presented a certificate of honour to the donors.
Director-General of the Health Department Dr Wan Maung explained matters related to the health care programmes being carried out by the ministry.

Kyoshin Co of Japan donates teaching aids to School for Deaf Children
Yangon, 30 Aug- Chairman of Kyoshin Company Ltd of Japan Mr Saraki Tachiki donated teaching aids for vocational training to the school for the deaf children for the third time at the school in Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay, on 28 August morning.
Present were Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Nay Win, Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Hlaing Win, Director-General of the Social Welfare Department U Sit Myaing, Secretary of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Ohn and departmental officials, donor Mr Saraki Tachiki and party, Principal of the School for Deaf Children U Myint Aung and staff, students and guests.

Mayor inspects agricultural and
livestock breeding tasks
Yangon, 30 Aug- Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, accompanied by Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for Agriculture and Livestock Breeding member of YCDC Col Thaung Wai, Secretary Head of Administration Department U Myint Swe and responsible officials, inspected agriculture and livestock breeding tasks in Uto-Kya-in region in Taikkyi Township this morning and gave necessary instructions.
The mayor then inspected fruit plantations, vegetable plantations, godown-1 and 2 of 25-ton rice-mill, milling of rice, oil mill, sugar mill and briquette factory. He also inspected preparations for breeding prawns and construction of water gates, and gave instructions on distribution of fingerlings and shrimps, growing of plants, minimizing loss and wastage and milling of rice to the officials.

Cultivation of long staple cotton coordinated
Yangon, 30 Aug- Coordination meeting on cultivation of late monsoon long staple cotton in Ayeyawady Division was held at the meeting hall of the Irrigation Department in Hinthada on 26 August. It was attended by Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Southwest Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, members of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council, chairmen of district and township Peace and Development Councils, division level departmental officials, officials of Myanma Cotton and Sericulture Enterprise and guests.
Deputy Division Manager of Myanma Cotton and Sericulture Enterprise U Bo Myint gave an account of cultivation of cotton, techniques and plans to be carried out.
The commander gave instructions on meeting targets of pilot cultivation and step-by-step supervision of officials concerned in collaboration with peasants for providing techniques and supporting equipment. He fulfilled the requirements.
The commander visited No 2 Medium Machinery Repair Shop and No 15 Tractor Camp in Hinthada in the afternoon on 27 August. Officials conducted him around the camp. He gave instructions on repair work of the machinery and make them ready for land preparation work and ploughing and use of the machinery to full capacity. He also attended to the needs.
Later, the commander inspected Hinthada-Zalun-Danubyu-Nyaungdon road on his way to Manaungmyin Pyidawpyan Buddha Image in Zalun. He paid homage to the image and made cash donations. He then inspected construction of a prayer hall and fulfilled the requirements.
Coastal Region Commander inspects education and health care tasks
Yangon, 30 Aug- Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of the Coastal Region Command Brig-Gen Aye Kyway together with departmental officials arrived at No 2 Basic Education High School, Kawthoung on 24
August morning.
The commander chose the site for construction of staff quarters, inspected the learning of students in the multimedia classrooms of the school, and attended to the needs.
He also inspected construction tasks of 150-bed hospital in Ayemyakantha Ward in the town, and learning of students in the multimedia classrooms of No 1 Basic Education High School, Kawthoung. After hearing the reports of the officials, he attended to the
requirements.
Then, he met the trainees of the Midwife Helper Training Course conducted by the township Maternal and Child Welfare Association and inspected the delivery room. The commander inspected the purchasing of prawn of Aung Chan Tha Trading Ltd and progress of construction work for the new building of fish trading centre and gave instructions.
Afterwards, he inspected the construction work at Basic Education High School branch in Ayeyeiknyein Ward, construction tasks at Pyidawaye Pagoda, greening tasks for Bayinnaung Statue and attended to the
needs.
Commander inspects agricultural work in Katha District
Yangon, 30 Aug- Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win accompanied by officials inspected agricultural work in Kawlin and Indaw Townships in Katha District on 26 August. Out of targeted monsoon paddy 255,000 acres, 255,332 acres have been cultivated in the district. It has exceeded the target.
Later, the commander attended Annual Meeting of Union Solodarity and Development Association of Katha District at Basic Education High School in Katha. At the ceremony, he presented prizes to outstanding students and outstanding performance award winners in social services. He then presented stationery worth K 169,000 to member of School Board of Trustees U Tun Tin for Taung Paw Kyaung Taik monastic education school in
Katha.
Volleyball Championship concludes
Yangon, 30 Aug- The final match and the closing ceremony of the Commander-in-Chief's (Air) Shield Volleyball Championship 2001 was held at the district stadium in Meiktila yesterday morning.
Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myat Hein of the Commander-in-Chief's (Air) Office, Deputy Commander of the Flying Training Base Lt-Col Tin Naing Tun, senior military officers from Meiktila Station, officials from the Flying Training Base and the Ground Training Base, officers and other ranks and players attended the ceremony.
The No 1 Provost Company (Air) team beat the Ground Training Base team
3-0 in the final match.

Yangon, 30 Aug- A ceremony to open a painting exhibition
"Paintings of the Philippine Rural House, Bahay Kubo" sponsored by the embassy of the Philippines was opened at the Sedona Hotel this evening.
Present were Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Patron of the ASEAN Women Friendship Association Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, members of the panel of patrons Daw San Yon, wife of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Daw Khin Swe Soe, wife of the Deputy Minister, directors-general, departmental officials, ambassadors and families of embassies and guests.
Ambassador of the Philippines Mme Phoebe A Gomez made an opening speech.
Deputy Minister U Soe Nyunt, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and Mme Phoebe A Gomez formally opened the exhibition.
Then, the deputy ministers, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and members of the panel of patrons and guests viewed the paintings.
Philippine painter Ms Rosalinda E Roman exhibited 24 paintings of Philippine traditional houses and scenes.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 31 August to 6 September from 8 am to 5 pm. Admission is free.
Members of the Library, Museum and Exhibition Supervisory Committee inspected the exhibition in the afternoon, and Vice-Chairman of the Committee Deputy Director-General of the Information and Public Relations Department U Aung Hsan presented the permit for the exhibition to Third Secretary of the embassy of the Philippines Mr Pablito A

Japanese youth delegation visits Shwedagon Pagoda
Yangon, 30 Aug- A Japanese youth delegation, led by Mr Taisuke Togashi, toured Yangon today.
The delegation arrived here under the international youths development programme, sponsored by the Japanese government.
The Japanese youth visited the Shwedagon Pagoda at 8 am. Members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees explained the history of the pagoda.
At the National Museum, they studied the ancient artifacts and visited the Legacy Bagan exhibition.
On arrival at Yangon Division Union Solidarity and Development Association Office, they were welcomed by Division USDA Secretary U Aye Myint and executives.
U Aye Myint and executives explained the points and functions of the association. They then visited the Computer Diploma Course of the Division USDA.
In the afternoon, they visited the Myanma Gems Museum.
U Aye Myint hosted a dinner in honour of the delegation at Karaweik Palace

Vocational training course opened in Shan State (North)
Yangon, 30 Aug- Vocational Training Course No 28/2001 organized by the Work Committee for Development of Border Areas and National Races was opened at the vocational training school in Lashio on 27 August morning.
The opening ceremony was attended by Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander of North-East Command Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo and wife Daw Khin Saw Hnin, senior military officers, Secretary of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Win Han and departmental officials, delegates of local national races, course instructors and trainees.
The commander spoke of the purpose of the opening of the course.
Headmistress Daw Kesi Ngwe explained matters related to subjects to be taught at the course.
Then, the delegates of local national races made cash donations.
Altogether 43 trainees including 27 teachers of basic education high schools and middle schools in Shan State (North) and 16 national races from border areas are attending the course, which will last 14 weeks.
Vocational training course opened in Kengtung
Yangon, 30 Aug- An opening ceremony of Vocational Training Course No 28/2001 sponsored by the Work Committee for Development of Border Areas and National Races was held at the training school in Kengtung on 27 August.
The ceremony was attended by Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander of Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Thein Sein, Patron of Shan State (East) Committee for Women's Affairs wife of the commander Daw Khin Khin Win, senior staff officers of the command, departmental officials, members of CWA and Maternal and Child Welfare Association, course instructors and trainees. Altogether 25 trainees are attending the 14-week
course.
Billboard erected to hail Annual General Meeting (2001) of USDA
Yangon, 30 Aug- A ceremony to erect a billboard to hail Annual General Meeting (2001) of the Union Solidarity and Development Association was held at Bahan Roundabout at 7 am today.
It was attended by Chairman of the Organizing Group of Information Sub-committee U Bo Kyi and committee members, Secretary of Yangon Division USDA U Aye Myint and executives, Secretary of Yangon West District USDA U Tin Win and executives, Chairmen and members of Bahan and Yankin Township Peace and Development Councils, Secretary of Bahan Township USDA U Ye Kyaw Thu and executives and members, members of Township War Veterans Organization, the Committee for Women's Affairs, Red Cross and Fire Brigade, Township Wirters and Journalists Association , Motion Picture Asiayon, Music Asiayon, students, departmental officials, Dobak dance troupe of Bahan Township totalling 1,500.

) Drug trafficker gets prison terms
Yangon, 30 Aug- A combined team comprising local intelligence unit and Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched a house of San Wai (a) Zaw Thet on Lower Pazundaung Street in Ward 3, Pazundaung Township, and seized 3,411 stimulant tablets on 15 October morning.
Pazundaung Police Station filed San Wai (a) Zaw Thet, son of U Sein Myint, under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psycho-tropic Substances Law.
Yangon East District Court handed down five years' imprisonment under Section 15 and 20
years' imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on San Wai (a) Zaw Thet to serve seperately on 31
July.
