( 1 ) Mass DHF control movement
launched in Thingangyun Township
Yangon, 7 Aug- The mass dengue haemorrhagic fever control movement was launched at Yangonthit Ward in Thingangyun Township in Yangon Division at 8 am today.
Members of the National Health Committee Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein and Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay met with the participants.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Health Prof Dr Mya Oo, Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Secretary Col Myint Aung, YCDC heads of department, YCDC health officers and staff, staff of District and Township Development Committee offices, the chairmen of the Township and Ward Peace and Development Councils, service personnel of the Township Health Department Office, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross, Auxiliary Fire Brigade, Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association and other social organizations, local people and officials.
On arrival at the township, the minister and the mayor were welcomed by officials, who reported to them on the number of patients suffering from dengue haemorrhagic fever in Yangon Division and38 wards in Thingangyun Township, the project to treat the patients and to control the disease, future programmes, public organizational task and field work with the help of maps and charts.
The minister and the mayor gave suggestions.
Accompanied by officials, they observed measures being taken to control the disease at the houses and compounds of the ward. They also cordially greeted the people of the ward.

Industry-2 inspects Motor Factory
Yangon, 7 Aug- Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Deputy Minister Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw and officials arrived at No 1 Motor Factory (Yangon) of Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries in Mayangon Township this morning.
The minister and party were welcomed by Director-General of Directorate of Myanma Industrial Planning U Khin Maung and
officials.
Managing Director of Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries U Soe Thein reported on manufacturing of 6.5-ton trucks and 10-ton trucks.
General Manager U Hlaing Than reported on strength of the personnel. The deputy minister then gave instructions.
The minister and party inspected manufacturing of TE-21 and 10-ton trucks.
Over 96,000 acres of jute harvested in Maubin, Myaungmya, Kyonpyaw, Hinthada zones in Ayeyawady Division
Yangon, 7 Aug- Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin inspected jute harvesting at a model farm of Myanma Jute Enterprise in Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Division, yesterday.
The farm cultivated 100 acres of jute.
At the briefing hall of the farm, the minister met with Chairman of Maubin District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Thein Hlaing and departmental personnel. The Maubin Zone Manager of MJE presented a report on cultivation and purchase of jute in the townships.
Officials should strive to cultivate quality jute strains, the minister stressed.
Accompanied by officials, the minister observed cultivation of jute on 495 acres at Kyonnattaw village in Maubin Township.
The jute farmers reported to the minister on requirements to cultivate quality jute strains.
At the jute cultivation and purchase centre at Myitwa in Pantanaw Township, he inspected cultivation of jute on 160 acres.
He then inspected the storage of first-grade jute at the centre.
During his meeting with local farmers, the Managing Director of MJE U Myint Maung explained assistance being rendered to farmers to grow quality jute strains.
Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin spoke of the need to cultivate special and first class jute and looked into the requirements in producing quality jute.
At Treinkyun jute cultivation centre in Wakema Township, the minister and party inspected cultivation of jute on large stretches of land and storage of jute.
The local farmers presented requirements in cultivating jute to the minister.
A total of 96,315 acres of jute has been harvested in Maubin, Myaungmya, Kyon-pyaw and Hinthada zones in Ayeya-wady
Division in 2001-2002 season.

Minister for CPT inspects microwave station and auto-telephone exchanges
Yangon, 7 Aug- Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw inspected microwave station and auto-telephone exchanges of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications this morning.
The minister went to Htaukkyant microwave station. Chief Engineers of MPT reported on installation of Htaukkyant-Bago link and fibre-cable communication from Htaukkyant to Yangon. The minister gave instructions and inspected equipment at the station.
The minister went to Mingaladon auto-exchange and inspected the equipment.
The minister proceeded to Bayintnaung auto-exchange. The Chief Engineer of Yangon auto-telephone reported on communications of exchange stations and telephone cable, kind of equipment installed and maintenance of telephone lines. The minister inspected the installation of exchange equipment.
The minister went to Hanthawady auto-exchange. Engineers reported on replacement of cross-bar exchange with digital exchange system.
The minister then inspected TMX-type digital exchange, Cross-bar exchange and container exchange.
Sports Minister attends opening of coach course
Yangon, 7 Aug- Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint delivered an address at the opening of the Coach Course No 7 for physical training instructors of basic education schools, and formally opened the course held at the Sports and Physical Education Institute here this morning.
Also present on the occasion were Vice-Chairman of MOC Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, member of MOC Director of Defence Services Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thien
Han and members, officials from the Ministry of Sports and the
Ministry of Education, presidents of sports federations, the
principal and course instructors of the Sports and Physical
Education Institute, trainees and invited guests.
The minister made a speech at the ceremony and
formally opened the course. Then, he greeted the trainees.
Altogether 68 physical training instructors from state and division
basic education schools, the University for Development of National
Races, the Nationalities Youth Resources Development Degree College
of the Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and
Development Affairs are attending the eight-week course. Then, the
minister inspected sport medical equipment worth US $ 18,329
presented by the World Health Organization in 2000-2001 for health
care services of youths jointly organized by the ministry and the
organization. After hearing the reports of the officials, he gave
necessary instructions.

( 3 ) Minister inspects wrapping paper factory
Yangon, 7 Aug- Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung inspected wrapping paper factory of the Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in Yankin Township here this morning.
Accompanied by Deputy Ministers for Industry-1 Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, the minister observed production of wrapping paper and toilet paper and the production process.
The minister discussed with officials basic arrangements to install new machinery to boost production of toilet paper. He then inspected the chosen site to build a new factory.
At the briefing hall, the minister met with staff of the factory.
Managing Director of MPCI U Than Shwe and General Manager U Thein Win explained plans to upgrade the factory and future programmes. The minister spoke of the need to draw basic plans to upgrade the quality of the products.
In Mayangon Township, the minister visited the No 23 towel factory of Myanma Textile Industries. He met with officials and attended to their needs.

English language course and fire fighting
course conclude
Yangon, 7 Aug- The English language course and fire fighting training course of Fire Services Department concluded at the Fire Fighting Training School in Mayangon Township this morning.
Present were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, the directors-general of departments under the ministry, the deputy director-general of Fire Services Departments, officials, heads of Township Fire Services Department in Yangon Division, course instructors and trainees.
Five major tasks and seven work programmes were laid down for successful implementation of the objectives of the Fire Brigade and emergence of a modern fire brigade.
The 12-week course was attended by 24 officers of the Township Fire Services Departments.
Similar English language courses and fire fighting training courses will be conducted.
Youth delegation arrives back from Japan
Yangon, 7 Aug- The ten-member Myanmar youth delegation arrived back here this evening by air after attending the International Youths Development Exchange Programme in Japan.
The delegation members led by U Soe Soe of the Union Solidarity and Development Association took part in the programme sponsored by the Japanese government.

UMFCCI President meets Mon State CCI President
Yangon, 7 Aug- President of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry U Win Myint attended the opening of Yadana Tun Brokerage in Mawlamyine and met with President of Mon State CCI U Tin Maw, executives and entrepreneurs on 5 August.
President U Tin Maw delivered an address. President U Win Myint briefed them on the history of the UMFCCI, structure and work being carried out, welfare tasks for member associations and members, and formation of industrial zones.
He also inspected conditions of business in the town and at the brokerage, and conditions for formation of an industrial zone.

Fingerlings released into Ayeyawady River
Yangon, 7 Aug- A ceremony to put fingerlings into the Ayeyawady River was held at Shangalaykyun Village in Amarapura Township on 5 August.
Present were Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, Secretary of Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Tin Ohn, departmental officials, Division Head of Fisheries Department U Kyaw Myo Win, officials, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Maternal and Child Welfare Association and members of the Committee for Women's Affairs.
The commander and officials put 10 million fingerlings into the Ayeyawady River.
Altogether 85 million fingerlings were released into the lakes along the Ayeyawady River. Arrangements are being made for putting of 23.5 million fingerlings into the lakes along the Chindwin River.
The 11th ceremony to offer Waso robes to members of the Sangha and to offer provisions of Catu Patccaya Nugga Association was held. The Central Command donated K 5 million to chairman of the association.
MCDC donated K 1 million, Asia Wealth Bank K 1 million, members of MCDC and heads of departments K 500,000, AAA Cement Plant K 1 million, All Bus Lines Control Committee and Highway bus terminal K 500,000 each, Hightech Daw Aye Aye Hlaing, Industrial Development Committee of Industrial Zone 1, Industrial Development Committee of Industrial Zone 2, Chairman of Upper Myanmar Fisheries Association K 100,000 each and Central Command K 240,000. The commander accepted the donations.
Altogether 18 wellwishers also presented K 410,100 to the mayor and the deputy commander and officials. A total of 31 wellwishers donated over K 10
million.
Tree-planting ceremony held
Yangon, 7 Aug- The tree-planting in Mazin watershed area plantation for greening of Hanthawady International Airport in Bago Township was held near the entrance road of the airport on 4 August.
It was attended by Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Southern Command Maj-Gen Tin Aye, Commander of Divisional Police Force Police Col Aung Gyi, departmental personnel, Chairman of Hanthawady International Airport Greening Committee Head of Divisional Forest Department U Soe Win Hlaing and members, and members of social organizations totalling over 2,000.
The commander planted an eugenia tree at the designated place, and visited those who were taking part at the ceremony.
At the briefing hall, the commander heard a report by Project Director of International Airport Construction U Ohn Myint and U Soe Win Hlaing on work being carried out. The commander gave instructions on laying down plans and cooperation with departmental officials for greening of the surrounding are as of the airport and attended to the needs.
At the ceremony, over 10,000 saplings were planted and plans are under way to plant flower plants and shady
trees.

Township Badminton Tourney opens
Yangon, 7 Aug- Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Chairman's Trophy Inter-Township Badminton Tournament for the Year 2001 was opened at the gymnasium in Myeik on 2 August morning.
Among the spectators were Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Brig-Gen Aye Kyway, Commander of Taninthayi Naval Region Command Commodore Soe Myint, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Tin Latt, senior military officers, local authorities, departmental officials and the players from ten townships in the Division.
Commander Brig-Gen Aye Kyway made a speech on the occasion.

Commander attends opening of Mawlamyine Yadana Tun Brokerage
Yangon, 7 Aug- A ceremony to open Mawlamyine Yadana Tun Brokerage was held at the centre near the bus terminal in Zaygyo Ward, Mawlamyine, on 5 August.
Present at the ceremony were Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-East Command Brig-Gen Myint Swe, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Myo Hla, senior military officers, Secretary of the Council Lt-Col Aung Maw Maw, departmental officials, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, social organizations, brokers and guests.
Chairman of the Committee for Construction of the Brokerage U Tin Maw reported on progress of construction, and then presented a pennant to mark the opening ceremony to the commander. Next, Chairman of Mawlamyine District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Thaw Zin and Chairman U Tin Maw formally opened the Brokerage.

( 7 ) Cornerstones laid for new buildings of monastery
Yangon, 7 Aug- The ceremonies to lay cornerstones for Shwesin Academy Tipi-taka new two-storey building of Mingun Dham-manadataik and Tipitaka Dhammathala three-storey building of Moemaikkonmye Tipitaka Kyaungtaik in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Division, were held at the respective Kyaungtaiks on 2 August.
Present were Presiding Nayaka of the Dhamma-nandataik Kyaungtaik Saya-daw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Sucitta and members of the Sangha, Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, departmental officials, wellwishers and guests.
First, the cornerstone-laying ceremony of the Dhammanandataik Kyaung-taik was held. The Sayadaw invested the congregation with the Five Precepts. Members of the Sangha recited the parittas.
Then, the commander and wellwishers presented offertories to the members of the Sangha.
The wellwishers presented cash donations for construction of the building through the commander who presented certificates of honour to them.
Afterwards, the cornerstone-laying ceremony of the Kyaungtaik followed. The commander and the officials laid cornerstones at the designated place, and the ceremony came to a
close.
Tailoring and cooking courses conclude
Yangon, 7 Aug- Conclusion of tailoring courses 17/2001 and cooking course 16/2001 and opening of tailoring course 18/2001 (womenÕs wear) and tailoring course 1/2001 (menÕs wear) sponsored by the Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association were held at the multi-purpose building of MMCWA at the corner of Parami Road and Thanthuma Road in South Okkalapa Township this morning.
Present were Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, CEC members, Patrons of the courses, those in-charge and trainees.

NPE presents cash assistance to staff's children

afternoon.
Children of the NPE staff who passed the matriculation examination for the academic years 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 were presented cash assistance at the meeting.
Present were Managing Director of NPE U Tin Kha, Director (News) U Hla Tun, Director (Admin) U Soe Win, deputy directors, chief editors, deputy chief editors, editors, managers, branch clerks, staff and their children.
The managing director and the directors presented cash assistance to the students through the representatives.
The managing director presented cash assistance to two students who passed the matriculation with four distinctions, four students who passed the examination with two distinctions and four who passed with one distinction.
Waso robes offered to monks
Yangon, 7 August- Waso robes were offered to Buddhist monks at Thaddamma Zotikayon Sarthintaik (Border Area Mission) in Dagon Myothit (South) Township in Yangon East District on 15 July.
Present were Director-General of Prisons Department Lt-Col Maung Maung Lay, Chairman of Kayan Township Peace and Development Council U Maung Maung Soe, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sarthintaik U Khin Win and Patron of Myanmar-Tamil Buddhist Mission U Thaung Tin and donors.
Sayadaw Bhaddanta Naginda (Dhammacariya) administered the Eight Precepts.
The Sayadaws recited parittas.

The congregation shared the merits gained.
Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik
Similarly, donors presented Waso robes to 615 Buddhist monks, who will stay at Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Insein during the Buddhist Lent, at the sarthintaik on 5 August.
The monks led by Presiding Sayadaw of the Sarthintaik Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Nandavamsa and warden Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Tilokabhivamsa accepted the robes from the wellwishers.

Malaysia beat Myanmar 2-1 in Sepak Takraw friendly
Yangon, 7 August- The Malaysian national team beat the tentatively selected Myanmar team 2-1 in the second Sepak Takraw friendly held at National Indoor Stadium-1 in Thuwunna here this afternoon.
Present were Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, members of the Panel of Patrons of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation, officials of the Sports and Physical Education Department, guests, sepak takraw
fans. The third friendly match will be held on 8 August.
Pre-primary school and domestic science training school opened
Yangon, 7 Aug- A ceremony to open the pre-primary school and the domestic science training school of the Social Welfare Department of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement was held at the Central Fire Services Training School in Zibingyi, PyinOoLwin Township, yesterday.
Present were Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Hlaing Win, Director-General of the Fire Services Department U Myint Tun, Principal of the Central Institute of Civil Service (Upper Myanmar) Col Aung San Win, Principal of the Central Fire Services Training School Col Kyi Win, Deputy Principal Ye Thura Than Hlaing, Principal of Myanmar Police Force Central Training Centre Police Brig-Gen Win Myaing, local authorities, officials, the principals of the pre-primary school and the domestic science training school, staff, trainees and guests.
The deputy minister spoke on the occasion.
After the ceremony, the deputy minister heard a report at the pre-primary school by School Head Daw Lwin May Thein on plans to be carried out for nurturing children. The deputy minister attended to the needs and viewed the nurturing of the children.
Then, the deputy minister and party arrived at the domestic science training school where School Head Daw Khin Ohn Myint reported on work being carried out and the subjects to be taught. The deputy minister then inspected the tailoring course, the cooking course and the bakery course and fulfilled the requirements.
Later, the deputy minister inspected the agricultural and livestock breeding farm for the staff welfare of the Central Fire Services Training School and left
instructions.
MWVO provides cash assistance to war veterans in Chin State
Yangon, 7 Aug- A ceremony to present cash assistance for war veterans aged 75 and above, and disabled war veterans by the Myanmar War Veterans Organization Central Organizing Committee was held at City Hall in Haka, Chin State yesterday afternoon.
Present on the occasion were Central Executive Committee member of the MWVO Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, members of the Chin State Peace and Development Council, members of state/district WVO Supervisory Committetes, the chairman of township WVO and executives, organizing committee members and invited guests.
Patron of the Chin State WVO Chairman of Chin State Peace and Development Council Col Than Win delivered an address.

stimulant tablets, opium oil seized
Yangon, 7 Aug- Members of local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, searched a car with number plate 1 Kha/6108 driven by Aik Aung (a) Lawlu, 31, of Region 5, Ward 7 in Lashio and accompanied by Sai Aung (a) Keinshu, 21, of Yayayekwin Ward in Taunggyi, at the Nawnghkio check-point in Shan State (North) on 13 July. The authorities found 3,464,000 stimulant tablets bearing the letters
"WY" in the car.
On further investigation, the authorities arrested the owner of the tablets, Than Aung (a) Kya Chi, 31, of Thirimingala Street, Min-galaU Ward in Taunggyi together with 136,000 stimulant tablets and 0.24995 kilo of opium oil in Lashio.
Action is being taken against the three in accord with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the police station
concerned.
