YANGON, 29 July-A ceremony to share merits for
construction of the Sasana 5000 Yaungdawphwint Kyaikhti-hsaung
Htidipan Dhammayon near the western Tazaung of the Shwedagon Pagoda
was held at the Dhammayon this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of
the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt.
Also present were member Sayadaws led by Chairman

kept at the Dhammayon.
The Secretary-1 and well-wishers took the Nine
Precepts from Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee
Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika
Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara.
The Secretary-1 and well-wishers presented
offertories to the members of the Sangha. Chairman of Zaykabar Co
Agga Maha Thirithudama Manizotadara U Khin Shwe supplicated on
construction of the Dhammayon. Chairman of the Sasana 5000
Yaungdawphwint Group U Than Shwe, donor of the Dhammayon Chairman of
Zaykabar Co Agga Maha Thirithudama Manizotadara U Khin Shwe and
Engineer U Tint San of ACE Construction presented the documents
related to the Dhammayon to the Secretary-1.
The Secretary-1 presented the documents to
Kyaikhti-hsaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Panadipa. The Sayadaw delivered a
sermon, followed by sharing of merits. The Secretary-1 and
well-wishers performed the rituals of golden and silver showers and
offered " soon " to the Sayadaws. Chairman of Zaykabar Co Agga Maha
Thirithudama- Manizotadara U Khin Shwe and wife Daw San San Kywe and
family donated K 1.5 million; gem expert U Thein Lwin (Retd) of Gem
Corporation and wife Daw Aye Aye, K 3.6 million; Managing Director U
Kyi Thein of Sinma Tex Co and wife Daw Than Nyunt, K 3 million;
Chairman of the Sasana 5000 Yaung-dawphwint Group, K 4.8 million;
and Engineer U Tint San of ACE Construction and wife Dr Daw Htay
Htay Nyein, K 2.6 million for construction of the Dhammayon. The
donations totalled 2.9 million.

(4) Myanma Industrial Development Bank
holds sixth annual meeting for 2000-2001
YANGON, 29 July - Myanma Industrial Development
Bank held the sixth annual meeting for 2000-2001 at the bank on
Pansodan Street this morning. Secretary-3 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt- Gen. Win Myint addressed the meeting. Also
present were Chairman of the Working Committee for Myanma
Industrial Development Chairman of Myanma Industrial Development
Bank Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Science
and Technology U Thaung, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U
Kyaw Kyaw Maung, officials of the State Peace and Development
Council Office, the commander of No 4 Military Region, departmental
officials, members of the MIDB Board of Directors, the managing
director and employees, share-holders and guests. The Secretary-3
made a speech.
Then, Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin said that Myanma
Industrial Development Bank has been operating for over five years,
and the objective of the bank is to contribute to the development of
the industrial sector in Myanmar. In 2000-2001, the bank made a
profit of over K 111.5 million, out of which some amount of money
has to be set aside for tax and the fund of the bank and K 64.5
million can be distributed to the shareholders. Arrangements have
been made to give a dividend of K 62,250 per share. For a share
valued at K 500,000, the bank has already given the total dividend
of K 413,250 including the present dividend.
Loans are being extended to industrialists from
industrial zones with the aim of promoting the development of the
industrial sector in Myanmar. This year, the bank has given loans
not only to industrialists but also to entrepreneurs who are engaged
in businesses related to production, trading, services and others.
About K 600 million has been lent to 289 entrepreneurs. Then,
Managing Director of Myanma Industrial Development Bank U Aung Chit
submitted the annual report of the bank for 2000- 2001. Assistant
General Manager of MIDB U Thet Mon sought the approval of the
meeting for the annual report, the financial statement and the
audit report. The managing director replied to queries raised by
the shareholders. Then, the meeting selected a new board of
directors chaired by Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin. Afterwards, duty
was assigned to the audit group. Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin presented
gifts to advisers. The meeting ended with concluding remarks by the
minister.

attends ASEAN meetings
YANGON, 29 July-Minister for Foreign Affairs U
Win Aung and party left for Hanoi, Vietnam on 22 July at the
invitation of the Chairman of 34th ASEAN Standing Committee and the
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam. Minister U Win Aung
attended the 34th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (34th AMM) on 23 and 24
July, AMM Retreat, the meeting of Commission for South East Asia
Nuclear Weapons Free Zone and ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers Meeting on
24 July, the 8th ASEAN Regional Forum (8th ARF) on 25 July, the
meeting of Foreign Ministers of ASEAN and dialogue partners on 26
and 27 July.
The minister presided over the ASEAN-Japan
Ministerial Meeting held on 26 July. Minister U Win Aung explained
the government's plans being implemented, development in the
country, the government's endeavours regarding anti-drug campaign,
objectives and future plans at the 8th ASEAN Regional Forum on 25
July. The minister presided over the Second Ministerial Meeting on
Mekong-Ganga Cooperation on 28 July. Delegates from Cambodia, Laos,
Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and India attended the meeting.
Leaders of delegations from six nations signed
the Hanoi Programme of Action for Mekong-Ganga Cooperation for more
cooperation in tourism, cultural, education, transport and
communications sectors between five ASEAN-member nations and Ganga
Valley region in India. After the meeting a press conference was
held. During his stay in Vietnam, Minister U Win Aung together with
Foreign Ministers of ASEAN and dialogue partners paid a courtesy
call on President of Vietnam Mr Tran Duc Luong on 26 July. The
minister together with ASEAN Foreign Ministers called on Prime
Minister Mr Phan Van Khai on 23 July and together with the
ministers for Mekong-Ganga Cooperation on 28 July.
Minister U Win Aung met Minister of Foreign
Affairs of Vietnam Mr Nguyen Dy Nien and exchanged views on ASEAN
affairs and bilateral relations on 26 July. Minister U Win Aung met
Vice-Chairman of National Planning Committee and Chairman of
Special Board on infrastructure of the Prime Minister Mr K C Pant
of India on 27 July. They discussed bilateral relations, transport,
commerce and arrangements for development of border regions between
the two countries. Minister U Win Aung met Foreign Ministers of
dialogue partner countries, Australia, Japan and New Zealand. They
discussed bilateral relations and regional and international
issues. He received UNDP Administrator Mr Mark Malloch and looked
into prospects for cooperation between Myanmar and UNDP. Minister U
Win Aung met correspondents of Kyodo, NHK, AFP, Myanmar Times and
Reuters news agency and replied to the queries. He explained
developments of relations between Myanmar and western nations,
cooperation with national race leaders for eradication of drugs in
Myanmar and results. The minister arrived back here yesterday
evening.

YANGON, 29 July - Commander of Northern Command
Maj-Gen Kyaw Win and Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung,
inspected Win Thuza Shop of the Ministry of Industry-1 in Myitkyina,
Kachin State, this afternoon, and inspected sale of products of
Myanma Textile Industries, Myanma Foodstuff Industries, Myanma
General and Maintenance Industries, Myanma Paper and Chemical

Fisheries Federation meets
YANGON, 29 July-The coordination meeting of
executives of the Myanmar Fisheries Federation was held at the hall
of the Yuzana Hotel on Shwegondine in Bahan township this morning.
It was attended by Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen.
Maung Maung Thein, Deputy Minister U Aung Thein, the
directors-general and officials of the ministry,
state/division/district level executives of the federation.
President U Htay Myint of the federation and Minister Brig-Gen.
Maung Maung Thein made speeches. Then, executives reported on
progress of work being carried out and Deputy Minister U Aung Thein

Minister inspects postal and
telecommunication services
YANGON, 29 July - Minister for Communications,
Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen. Thein Zaw visited the auto-exchange
in Hpa-an, Kayin State, on 27 July. The manager of Kayin State
Myanma Posts and Telecommunications reported on the installation of
machinery and equipment at the auto-exchange, trunk-calls, the
condition of the auto-radio telephones and postal and telegraph
services. The minister attended to the requirements.
The minister proceeded to the office of the
manager of Mon State Myanma Posts and Telecommunications in
Mawlamyine. The minister inspected postal and telegraph services and
installation of equipment at the auto-exchange and microwave
station in Mawlamyine. Commander of South-East Command Brig-Gen.
Myint Swe and Minister Brig-Gen. Thein Zaw went to the post office
in Paung yesterday, and inspected postal services.
Then, they proceeded to the auto-exchange in
Thaton and inspected the installation of auto-telephone equipment.
The minister also inspected the post office and the telephone office
in Theinseik, the telephone exchange in Bilin, the post office in
Kyaikto and the microwave station in Moatpalin. The minister
visited the post office in Waw, Bago Division. The minister then
went to the office of the manager of Bago Division Myanma Posts and
Telecommunications in the evening, and the manager reported on
communication tasks. The minister gave instructions on installation

YANGON, 29 July-The families of the Office of the
Minister for Commerce and Directorate of Trade offered Waso robes
to the members of the Sangha at Ariya Mandaing Kyaungtaik on
Kyaikwaing Pagoda Road, Ward 3, Mayangon Township, here, this
morning.
It was attended by Minister for Commerce
Brig-Gen. Pyi Sone, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen. Kyaw Hsan,

Development Council held its 11th Waso-robe offering ceremony at

here, at 5.30 am today. Present on the occasion were Sayadaws and
members of the Sangha from Yangon Division Sangha Nayaka Committee,
Kamayut Township Sangha Nayaka Committee and Bahan Township Sangha

Transportation offers Waso robes to members of the Sangha
YANGON, 29 July - The Ministry of Rail
Transportation held a Waso-robe offering ceremony under the
patronage of Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung and wife
Daw Nyunt Nyunt Lwin at Taunggyi Kyaungtaik in Bahan Township this
morning. The ceremony was attended by 90 members of the Sangha led
by the Presiding Sayadaw of Taunggyi Kyaungtaik, Minister U Pan Aung

(7) Bronze statue of Nandawshay Saya Tin
unveiled
YANGON, 29 July- A ceremony to unveil bronze
statue in commemoration of Nandawshay Saya Tin was held yesterday
at the National Theatre of Fine Arts Department in Mandalay. Present
were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of
Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of
Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Minister for Culture U Win Sein,
Secretary of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col
Tin Ohn and members, departmental officials, Secretary of Division
USDA U Tin Maung Oo, officials and guests. At the auspicious time,
Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Minister U Win Sein formally
unveiled the bronze statue. The commander said the nations of the
world today are making efforts for preservation of own culture and
national characters and for revitalization of culture. There is a
saying that real culture is the essence of human beings, he said.
In order to honour Nandawshay Saya Tin, one of the great composers
in Myanmar, his bronze statue was cast, the commander said. The
minister and Director-General of Fine Arts Department U Kyaw Win
inspected wax work of Princess Thanbyin, daughter of King Kyaswa and
statues of Liberty Ma Mya Yin and Alinka Kyawswa Daw Saw Mya Aye

and Health Minister visit Hinthada Nurses Training School
YANGON, 29 July-Member of the State Peace and
Development Council Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and
Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura
Shwe Mann and Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein met with
trainees of Hinthada Nurses Training School at People's Hospital in
Hinthada District, Ayeyawady Division, at noon yesterday. Also
present were Director-General of Medical Science Department of the
Ministry of Health Professor Dr Maung Maung Wint, Director-General
of Health Planning Department Dr Kyi Soe, Director-General of
Health Department Dr Wan Maung, Divisional Health Officer Dr Than
Aung, Local authorities, District Health Officer Dr Wint Wint Tin,
specialists, assistant surgeons, nurses, officials and trainees.
The commander and the minister gave speeches. The
directors-general reported on work being carried out
department-wise. The commander, the minister and party then
inspected the Nurses Training School of the peoples Hospital, and
they were conducted round the school. They fulfilled the
requirements and presented materials to be used for educative
purpose to Maternal and Child Welfare Association.
They visited Zalun Manaungmyin Pyidawbyan Pagoda
and offered gold foils to it. They inspected requirements for repair
of Zalun Township People's Hospital and surgical ward. Township
Health Officer Dr Aung Kyi Swe conducted them round the hospital.
They attended to the needs. The minister and party next proceeded
to the Peasant's Hospital in Hsamalauk Village, Nyaungdon Township,
and inspected the wards, operation theatre and emergency ward.
Later, the minister fulfilled the needs and presented materials to
be used for educative purpose to Hsamalauk Health Care Unit.

(8) Over K 12 million presented to 248 war
veterans and disabled Tatmadaw members in Kachin State
YANGON, 29 July - A ceremony to hand over cash
assistance provided by the Central Organizing Committee of Myanmar
War Veterans Organization to members of MWVO and disabled Tatmadaw
members aged 75 and above was held at the City Hall in Myitkyina,
Kachin State, this afternoon.
Present were Patron of Kachin State War Veterans
Organization member of the State Peace and Development Council
Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, member of COC
Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, Secretary of COC Deputy
Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen. Thura Myint Maung, Deputy
Commander Brig-Gen. San Tun, member of COC Brig-Gen. Khin Aung Myint
of the Ministry of Defence, staff officers of Northern Command,
members of Kachin State Peace and Development Council, departmental
officials of Kachin State, members of Kachin State, District and
Township USDAs, Women's Affairs Committee, Maternal and Child
Welfare Association, Auxiliary Fire Brigade and Red Cross and war
veterans and disabled Tatmadaw members aged 75 and above. Commander
Maj-Gen Kyaw Win made an opening speech.
The commander, Minister U Aung Thaung, Deputy
Minister Brig-Gen. Thura Myint Maung and Brig-Gen. Khin Aung Myint
presented cash assistance to the war veterans and disabled Tatmadaw
members. Chairman of Bhamo Township WVO Captain Khin Maung Kyi
(Retired) spoke words of thanks. Then, Commander Maj-Gen Kyaw Win
made a concluding speech, which brought the ceremony to a close.
Altogether K 12.55 million was presented to 186 war veterans and 62
disabled Tatmadaw members totalling 248.
USDA trainees tour
Bagan-NyaungU, Sagaing, Mandalay
YANGON, 29 July-Trainees of the Myanmar and
International Affairs Studies Course No 3 of the Union Solidarity
and Development Association, led by Central Executive Committee
member Brig-Gen. Thein Aung, visited the pagodas and temples in
Bagan the Dhammarazaka, the Lawkananda, the Manuha, the Myazedi,
the Gubyaukgyi, the Ananda, the Dhamma-yangyi and the Sulamani on
26 July morning. They also visited Shin Arahan Brick Monastery and
Myanma Lacquerware Institute. The trainees arrived at the
Ywathatgyi University of Development for National Races in Sagaing
Township on 27 July.
They were welcomed and briefed on regional
development tasks being carried out in the division by CEC member
of USDA Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win. Then,
Rector Col Zaw Min Thein explained facts about the university and
daily routine work with the help of video slides. Afterwards, the
commander presented K 100,000 to the trainees.
The commemorative pennants of the group were
presented to the commander and the principal. CEC member of USDA
Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Deputy
Superintending Engineer U San Win, Secretary of Mandalay City
Development Committee Lt-Col Maung Pu, Director- General of the

(9) Sports Minister inspects training of
athletes
YANGON, 29 July-Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic
Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen. Thura Aye Myint arrived at
the National Swimming Pool and viewed the training of the
tentatively selected Judo athletes for XXI SEA Games yesterday
morning.
He spoke words of encouragement and presented
them training suits. The minister then inspected the training of
the tentatively selected table tennis players at the camp of Myanmar
Table Tennis Federation and gave necessary instructions to the
officials. He also viewed the training of the Karataedo athletes at
Aung San Stadium and presented sports suits to them. The minister
watched the training of the tentatively selected weightlifters at
the camp of the Myanmar Weightlifting Federation and spoke words of
encouragement.

Under-23 Tentatively Selected Myanmar Football team and the Canada
(AIA) football club was held at Thuwunna Stadium this afternoon.
Among the spectators were Deputy Minister for Industry-2 Brig-Gen.
Aung Thien Lin, Vice-President of the Myanmar Olympic Committee
Adjutant-General Brig-Gen. Hsan Hsint, Secretary of MOC
Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department U
Thaung Htaik and officials, invited guests and fans. The leaders of
the two teams exchanged pennants and had souvenir photo taken
before the match. Myanmar beat Canada 5-0 in the match.
