(3) Secretary-1 attends opening of ASEAN
photo exhibition and prize presentation ceremony
YANGON, 27 July-The opening ceremony of ASEAN
photo exhibition and prize presentation ceremony sponsored by the
Ministry of Information was held at Yangon City Hall at 8 am today,
attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt. Also present were ministers, deputy ministers,
high-ranking military officers of the Ministry of Defence, officials
of the State Peace and Development Council Office, ambassadors,
departmental heads, officials of Yangon City Development Committee,
chairmen and officials of non-governmental organisations and guests.
First, Chairman of the Working Committee for Holding ASEAN Photo
Exhibition Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen. Aung Thein
formally opened the ceremony.
Then, the prize presentation ceremony of the
ASEAN Photo Contest was held. Director-General U Chit Naing of the
Information and Public Relations Department gave an account of
holding the ASEAN Photo Contest in Myanmar.
Afterwards, Director (Admin) of Myanma Radio and
Television U Phone Myint explained facts about the ASEAN Photo
Contest held in Indonesia. Later, prizes were presented to the
winners of the ten ASEAN countries photo contest and ASEAN photo
contest held in Myanmar.
The Secretary-1 presented prizes to AK Moe
(Zoology) and Shwe Inntha Khin Maung Win, who won prizes for the
title "A Concert of Southeast Asian Nations" and Htin Lin (Golden
Arrow), who won the prize for the title " An Outward-Looking ASEAN"
in ten ASEAN countries photo contest held in Indonesia.
Then, prizes were presented to the winners of the
ASEAN photo contest held in Myanmar. Minister for Information Maj-Gen
Kyi Aung presented prizes to Thiha Thein Nyan, Yankin Soe Min, AK
Moe (Zoology), Shwe Inntha Khin Maung Win and Mann Tekkatho Nay Myo
Win (Shu Taing Yin Image Bank) who won prizes for the title " A
Concert of Southeast Asian Nations." Minister for Hotels and
Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin presented prizes to AK Moe (Zoology), U
Thein Htay Maung (Swe Hla Thein), Cherry Pe Aung, U Soe Min (Aung
Thiha) and Kyaw Min Htaik (YCDC), who won prizes for the title
Partnership in Dynamic Development." Minister at the Office of

presented prizes to Ko Tin Moe, Mann Tekkatho Nay Myo Win (Shu
Taing Yin Image Bank), U Soe Min (Aung Thiha), Kyaw Myint Than (Lanmadaw)
and Shwe Inntha Khin Maung Win, who won prizes for the title "
Community of Caring Society."
Dean of Diplomatic Corps Laotian Ambassador to
Myanmar Mr Ly Boun-kham presented prizes to Htin Lin (Golden
Arrow), Shwe Inntha Khin Maung Win, Hsan Oo (Teinhlwa), AK Moe
(Zoology) and Ye Tun Oo, who won prizes for the title "An
Outward-Looking ASEAN." Then, the ceremony came to an end.
After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and guests
viewed prize winning photographs of the ten ASEAN countries and
tentatively-selected photos from Myanmar to be sent to the contest.
The exhibition will be opened to the public from 9 am to 5 p.m.
daily till 31 July. Shown at the exhibition are 184 prize winning
photographs of the ten ASEAN countries and 130 tentatively-selected
photos from Myanmar to be sent to the contest. On display at the
exhibition were books that can be read free of charge at the
libraries of IPRD.

YANGON, 27 July-Secretary-1 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt received Chairman of

party at the guest house of the Ministry of Defence at 4.45 p.m.
today.

(5) Secretary-1 attends opening of
multimedia teaching centre of No 1 BEHS in Dawbon Township
YANGON, 27 July-A ceremony to open multimedia
teaching centre of No 1 Basic Education High School in Dawbon
Township, here, was held in conjunction with the opening of new
school building (Myitta Hall) at the school this morning. Chairman
of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony and
formally unveiled the centre and the building.
Also present were ministers, the chairman of
Civil Service Selection and Training Board, deputy ministers,
officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council,
departmental heads, chairmen of Yangon East District and Dawbon
Township Peace and Development Councils and officials, the school
head and teachers, the chairman of the School Board of Trustees and
members, parents, wellwishers and students. The School Head Daw
Khin Hla Myint and Treasurer of the School Board of Trustees Daw
Toe Nanda Tin formally opened the centre and the building. Next, the
Secretary-1 pressed the button to unveil the signboard of the
building.
The Secretary-1 and party then observed the
electronic media (video) room, computer application room, computer
aided instruction room, study room and language lab. They inspected
the drug education room, painting room, handicraft room and
domestic science room. The schoolgirls presented the paintings and
handicrafts to them. They inspected the music room where the
students presented their skills.
School Head Daw Khin Hla Myint and Chairman of
the School Board of Trustees U Thein Shwe reported on concerted
efforts made for the opening of the centre and the building and for
all-round development of the school.
Later, the cash presentation ceremony followed.

The Secretary-1 presented tapes for teaching aids
to the school head. On behalf of the State, he thanked the public,
teachers, members of the school Board of Trustees and wellwishers
for cooperating in opening the multimedia teaching centre and the
new school building; the new two-storey building was built with the
contributions of the State and wellwishers; Yuzana Co. Ltd donated K
30 million for the opening of multimedia teaching centres to MEC,
K 3 million of which was used for the opening of a multimedia
teaching centre at No 1 BEHS, Dawbon; today the centre was
successfully opened with the use of the K 3 million and others
donated by the public. He also said that it is heartening to see the
opening of the multimedia teaching centre and the building of the
new school building. A study of implementation of national education
promotion plans during the period of three years shows that success
has been achieved considerably.
This success can be attributed to the concerted
efforts of the people, wellwishers and members of the school board
of trustees. Therefore, teachers are required to use the facilities
in striving to uplift the standard of the national education up to
the international level and to maintain teaching aids to ensure
that they can be used for a long time. He urged the students to work
hard at their studies to become outstanding and dynamic ones and
intellectuals and intelligentsia on whom the State can rely in the
future. After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party, together with
the school head, teachers, the school board trustees, wellwishers
and students, had documentary photos taken.

Pyinmabin Rubber Glove Factory
inspected
YANGON, 27 July-Minister for Agriculture and
Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, accompanied by officials, inspected
Pyinmabin Rubber Glove Factory of Myanma Perennial Crops Enterprise
in Mingaladon Township this morning. At the meeting hall, Managing
Director of MPCE U Myint Oo reported on work being done and future
tasks and Manager of the factory U Maung Maung on production process
of rubber gloves and preparations for production of quality gloves.
The minister gave instructions. The minister inspected comparative
show of moulds used at present and those produced by Mandalay
Industrial Zone and samples of the new kind of gloves. He later
inspected production process of gloves and quality control and
stressed the need for production of quality gloves.

for Industry-1 inspects factories
YANGON, 27 July-Minister for Industry-1 U Aung
Thaung, accompanied by Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen. Thein Tun and
Brig-Gen. Kyaw Win inspected Chemical Factory of Myanma Paper and
Chemical Industries in Hlaing township this morning. Then, he
inspected proposed site for construction of new soap factory in the
factory compound. Afterwards, he inspected production process of
soap.
Later, he arrived at Yangon Bottling Factory of
Myanma Foodstuff Industries in Dhamathukhakyaung Street in Hlaing
township at 9 am today. He inspected production process there and
left necessary instructions. Afterwards, he inspected production of
wood work and wood furniture for export of Myanma General and
Maintenance Industries in Insein Township and gave necessary
instructions.

(7) Wellwishers make donations to
construction of Tejadhipati Pagoda to be built in Mongpan
YANGON, 27 July - The second donation ceremony
for construction of Maha Tejadhipati Pagoda which resembles the
Shwedagon Pagoda to be built in Mongpan, southern Shan State, was
held at Tatmadaw Damayon here this afternoon. Deputy Prime Minister
and Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen. Tin
Hla attended the ceremony and accepted donations.
Also present were Secretary of the State Sangha
Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga
Maha Saddhammajotika Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara, member
Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, invited
Sayadaws, ministers, deputy ministers, senior military officers,
wellwishers and guests. Magway Sayadaw administered the Five
Precepts to the congregation. The Sayadaws recited Parittas. Deputy
Prime Minister Lt-Gen. Tin Hla offered alms to Magway Sayadaw. The
ministers and the deputy ministers also offered alms to the Sayadaws.
In his supplication, Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen. Tin Hla said
that Mongpan is a historical region where kings of yore strove for
propagation of the Sasana. With the aim of ensuring peace and
prosperity of the region and propagation of the Buddhist Sasana,
arrangements have been made to build a pagoda which bears
resemblance to the Shwedagon Pagoda.
The hill on which the pagoda will be built is
situated about one mile north of Mongpan, and to build a pagoda,
108 feet in height and 138 feet in circumference, construction work
has begun since 8 November 2000. Then, Deputy Prime Minister

for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and wife Daw Moe Moe Myint,
personnel of the ministry offered waso robes to members of Sangha at
Aungban Kyaungtaik in Bahan Township this morning. Present on the
occasion were Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and wife,
Deputy Minister Brig-Gen. Aung Thein Lin and wife, Deputy Minister
Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw and wife, Directors-General, Managing

The congregation received the Nine Precepts from

Sangha of State Pariyatti Sasana University
YANGON, 27 July-Minister for Mines Brig-Gen. Ohn
Myint and family members of staff of the Ministry of Mines donated
offertories and alms to members of the Sangha led by Rector Sayadaw
of State Pariyatti Sasana University (Yangon) at Mogok Soon-sarhsaung
of the university this morning.

goalless draw
YANGON, 27 July-The friendly soccer tune-up of
under-23 tentatively selected Myanmar team and AIA Soccer Team of
Canada continued today for the second match at the Youth Training
Centre in Thuwunna this afternoon. Among the spectators were
Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen.
Thura Aye Myint, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, member of
MOC Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen. Aye Myint Kyu,
Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen. Hsan Hsint, senior

YANGON, 27 July- Concluding ceremony of Cybermec
basic computer courses No 5/2001 and 6/2001 was held at Cybermec
computer showroom at the corner of 36th Street and Merchant Street
this morning, with an address by Managing Director of Science and
Technology Enterprise of Myanma Economic Corporation. Also present

English Programme (MRTV3) to be given trial run
YANGON, 27 July - The trial run of Myanma Radio
and Television English Programme (MRTV3) will be telecast from 9 am
to 10 am daily as of 1 August 2001 after the daily regular TV
programmes. The trial run for foreign countries will go on air as of
4 August. The programme will be broadcast three times 1.00 p.m.,
6.00 p.m. and 11.00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
The programme can be received by TVRO through
satellite. The audience at home and abroad can send their
suggestions to Myanma Radio and Television, Pyay Road, Yangon.
