ceremony to enshrine relics into middle reliquary of Hsandadawpyi
Pagoda in Myingyan
YANGON, 15 July- A ceremony to enshrine relics
into the middle reliquary of Hsandadawpyi Pagoda and to cast the
sacred face of Hsandadawpyi Maha Karuna Labha Muni Image in bronze
was held at the Mingala Mandat near the pagoda in Minkyaungtaik in
Myingyan, Mandalay this morning. Present on the occasion were
members of the Sangha led by member Sayadaws of the State Sangha
Maha Nayaka Committee, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt, member of the State Peace
and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and
Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint,
the commander of No 99 LID, the chairman of Magway Division Peace
and Development Council, officials of the State Peace and
Development Council Office, heads of departments, departmental
officials, the chairmen of Myingyan District and Township Peace and
Development Councils, donors, members of social and religious
associations and local people. The Secretary-1 and party took the
Nine Precepts from member of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee
Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Kitti. Members of the Sangha recited the
parittas. Secretary Sayadaw Bhad-dana Nandiya expressed thanks for
building of the pagoda.
The Secretary-1 presented the relics and
offertories to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kitti. The commander, the
ministers, the deputy ministers and officials presented the relics
and offertories to members of the Sangha. The Secretary-1 accepted
K 500,000 donated by Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka
Committee Abhidhaja Maha Ratha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha
Saddhammajotikadhaja Myingyan Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita, K 1 million
each by U Shein-Daw Pu Lay of Thukhita Cheroot industry and U
Nyein-Daw Pu of Myingyan, U Khauk Wa-Daw Khin Khin of Taunggyi and
U Myo Hein-Daw Khin Cho of Yangon, K 700,000 by Daw Ngwe and family
of Myingyan, K 540,000 by U Pyone-Daw Khin Si of Myingyan and K
300,000 each by U Kyin Maung-Daw San Hla of Yangon, U Kyaw Khin-Daw
Nyein Thwin of Hpa-an, U Tin Oo-Daw Myint Myint Khin of Myingyan
and Yoma Bank in Myingyan. Fourteen wellwishers also donated gold,
diamond earring and cash for the pagoda. Secretary of Myingyan
Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Tazaunggyitaik Dhammadipa Kyaung
Saya-daw Bhaddana Cakkinda delivered a sermon, followed by sharing
of merits.
The Secretary-1 then conveyed the relics to be
enshrined. The Secretary-1 sprinkled scented water on the relics.
Teingya htidaw-hoisting team conveyed the relics atop the pagoda
through the decorated carriage. At the auspicious time, the
Secretary-1 enshrined the relics into the middle reliquary. The
Secretary-1 performed the rituals of golden and silver showers to
mark the success of the ceremony. Next, the Secretary-1 formally
opened the ceremony to cast the sacred face of Hsandadawpyi Maha
Karuna Labha Muni Image into bronze. The Secretary-1 offered gold
for casting of the sacred face of Hsandadawpyi Maha Karuna Labha
Muni Image into bronze.

(2) Secretary-1 inspects Mone Creek
Multi-purpose Dam Project in Sedoktara Township
YANGON, 15 July-Secretary-1 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt, the ministers, the
deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development
Council Office and heads of departments left here yesterday for
Bagan-NyaungU Airport in NyaungU Township, Mandalay Division by
Tatmadaw flight and arrived there at 9.15 am.
The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by member
of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay
Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command
Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun,
Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Zaw
Min and departmental officials.
The Secretary-1 and party, accompanied by
Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint and the Chairman of Magway Division
Peace and Development Council, went by helicopter to the site of
Mone Creek Multi-purpose Dam Project in Sedoktara Township, Magway
Division.
The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by Deputy
Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint, Deputy
Minister for Electric Power U Myo Myint and officials of Minbu
District and Sedoktara Township. Director of Construction-8 of the
Irrigation Department U Myint Than reported on construction of
Konkyaw embankment, construction of the main dam, spillway,
diversion tunnel and the tunnel for hydro-electric power generation.
Project Director of Mone Creek Dam Hydro-electric
power Project U Aung Koe Shwe reported on construction of power
house, efforts made for completion of the project in time and
cooperation with the Myanma Electric Power Enterprise and the
Irrigation Department. Deputy Minister U Myo Myint also reported on
measures undertaken for hydro-electric power generation. Deputy
Minister U Ohn Myint reported on the current of Mone Creek,
progress of work and materials required. Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin
gave a supplementary report.
Next, Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung
reported on supply of cement for the project. The Secretary-1 gave
instructions and inspected the project area. The Secretary-1 and
party went to the entrance of the diversion tunnel and inspected
laying of concrete in the tunnel wall. The Secretary-1 and party
inspected laying of concrete in the tunnel wall of the Power
Intake. The Secretary-1 and party inspected construction of the
main dam and the power house.
The Secretary-1 and party inspected construction
of the main spillway and gave instructions. The Mone Creek Dam is
being constructed on Mone Creek between Aukpon Village and Thayankai
Village, two miles north of Sedoktara. The dam is a multi-purpose
facility for supplying water and generating electric power. In the
afternoon, the Secretary-1 and party went to the site of reclamation
of fallow and virgin lands of Yuzana Co. Ltd in Kyeekan region in
Minbu (Sagu) Township. Chairman of Yuzana Co. Ltd U Htay Myint
reported on land reclamation carried out beginning 1999-2000and
cultivation of sesamum, groundnut, corn, beans and pulses, mustard,
long staple cotton, sunflower, mangoes and tamarind. Minister Maj-Gen
Nyunt Tin reported on land reclamation and cultivation in Magway
Division by 11 national entrepreneurs.
Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development
Council Col Zaw Min gave supplementary report on land reclamation
and cultivation by Yuzana Co. Ltd. The Secretary-1 gave instructions
on cultivation of seasonal and perennial crops suitable to the
region, cultivation and livestock breeding. He urged them to carry
out the tasks for both national and their interest. He then signed
in the visitors' book. The Secretary-1 planted a mango tree in
front of the briefing hall. Yuzana Co. Ltd is reclaiming 5,000 acres
of fallow and virgin lands in Kyeekan region in Minbu (Sagu)
Township.
The Secretary-1 and party went to Myosapho region
in Pwintphyu Township and inspected cultivation of pedisein,
pesinngon, cotton, long staple cotton and sesamum of Myanmar Billion
Group Co. Ltd. Chairman of Myanmar Billion Group Co. Ltd U Teza
reported on cultivation of 7,000 acres of land and efforts for
extended cultivation for 2001-2002. Project Director Dr Maung Ma
reported on availability of water and requirements. Minister Maj-Gen
Nyunt Tin reported on arrangements for availability of water. The
Secretary-1 said he came there to inspect the land reclamation
projects in Magway Division. Progress was made in plantations and
livestock and breeding activities should be carried out, he
suggested.
The Secretary-1 and party inspected modern farm
equipment, spraying, ploughing, sowing seeds. The Secretary-1 and
party went to the site of reclamation of land of Dagon International
Ltd in Yepokegyi Chaungzon region in Pwintbyu Township. They were
welcomed by Director-General of Irrigation Department U Kyaw San
Win, departmental officials, member of Magway Division Peace and
Development Council Division Commissioner U Aung Win and officials.
Chairman of Dagon International Ltd U Win Aung reported on
reclamation of 3,400 acres of lands in the region, arrangements for
full cultivation of crops, own arrangements for water supply system
and requirements. Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Managing Director of
MEPE U Yan Naing and Chairman Col Zaw Min took part in the
discussions.
The Secretary-1 gave instructions and signed in
visitor's book. The Secretary-1 inspected mustard, pedisein,
pesinngon and sesamum of Dagon International Ltd. The Secretary-1
and party went to the site of reclamation of land of Asia World Co.
Ltd in Tebokan region in Salin Township.
They were welcomed officials. Director of Asia
World Co. Ltd U Kyay reported on reclamation of land, construction
of embankment, arrangements for supply of water from Linzin canal
and cultivation of seasonal and perennial crops. The Secretary-1
gave instructions and signed in visitor's book. The Asia World Co.
Ltd cultivated over 1,000 acres of pedisein, pesinngon, sesamum,
roselle, mustard and sunflower and mango and Thanakha in 2001-2002
The Secretary-1 and party left for Bagan-NyaungU by helicopter. The
Secretary-1 and party visited Dhammarajaka Pagoda and paid obeisance
to Buddha image. The Secretary-1 made donation to the pagoda board
of trustees. The Secretary-1 and party went to Alodawpyi Pagoda.
The Secretary-1 also presented donation to the pagoda board of
trustees there.

(3) Secretary-3 inspects agriculture and
livestock breeding work in Mingaladon and Hmawby Townships
YANGON, 15 July-Secretary-3 of the State Peace
and Development Council Adjutant General Lt-Gen. Win Myint
inspected poultry farm of Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products
Enterprise of Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in Mingaladon
Township, poultry farm of Production Department of Yangon City
Development Committee in Htaukkyant, Mingaladon Township and Yangon
Division Vegetables and Poultry Farming Special Zone in
Nyaunghnapin village, Hmawby Township today.
The Secretary-3 accompanied by member of the
State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division
Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than,
Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen. Maung Maung Thein,
Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen. Khin Maung,
Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, officials of the
State Peace and Development Council Office and departmental
officials arrived at the poultry farm of Livestock, Feedstuff and
Dairy Products Enterprise of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries
in Pyinmabin, Mingaladon Township at 9 am today.
At the briefing hall, Minister for Livestock and
Fisheries Brig-Gen. Maung Maung Thein reported to the Secretary-3
on the functions of the farm. Then, Managing Director U Khin Maung
Aye of Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise gave an
account on the location of the farm, kinds of chicks and breeding
work.
Afterwards, the Secretary-3 and party proceeded to the Central
Incubator of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in Pyinmabin,
Mingaladon Township. Minister Brig-Gen. Maung Maung Thein reported
to the Secretary-3 on the work of the incubator and Managing
Director U Khin Maung Aye explained hatching process with the use
of charts.
The Secretary-3 gave necessary instructions and
inspected the incubator. Chicks and ducklings hatched at the
factory are on sale at reasonable price. Later, the Secretary-3 and
party inspected the work at pilot poultry farm in Pyinmabin. The
Secretary-3 left necessary instructions.
Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products
Enterprise of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries is developing
pure strains of RIR chickens that are suitable for geographical
conditions of the country. Moreover, the enterprise is engaging in
research work for developing hybrid pure chicken strains. Next, the
Secretary-3 and party arrived at the poultry farm of Production
Department of YCDC in Htaukkyant, Mingaladon Township. At the
briefing hall, Deputy Production Officer Col Tun Win reported to
the Secretary-3 on location of the farm, number of chickens kept at
the camp and plans to be carried out. The Secretary-3 inspected
round the farm and left necessary instructions.
Later, the Secretary-3 and party arrived at Taing
Myan Kyaw lay chicken breeding farm at Yangon Division Vegetables
and Chicken Breeding Special Zone in Nyaung Hnapin village, Hmawby
township. In-charge of the farm Col Soe Myint Aung reported to the
Secretary-3 on breeding work and daily production of eggs. The
Secretary-3 gave necessary instructions and inspected breeding of CP
Brown strains. Later, the Secretary-3 inspected cultivation of
crops from observation tower near Hmawby Hsan Hall in Special Zone-
1.
He inspected round fruit cultivation farms by
cars. Next, the Secretary -3 and party arrived at agricultural farm
of Aung Engineering Company and inspected computer control room of
distribution of water to the farms, cultivation of paprika and
tomatoes with the use plastic screen house system and cultivation
of vegetables. The Secretary -3 and party left the zone in the
afternoon.

Market
YANGON, 15 July-Secretary-3 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen. Win Myint this morning inspected
Tamway tax-free Market on Kyaikkasan Street, Tamway Township, here,
and gave instructions to the officials.
The Secretary-3, together with officers of the
office of the State Peace and Development Council, arrived at the
tax-free market at 7 am and they were welcomed there by member of
the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division
Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than,
Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen. Maung Maung Thein,
Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen. Khin Maung,
Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Joint-Secretary of the Yangon City
Development Committee U Kyi Win and officials. Then, the Secretary-3
inspected vegetables shop of No 91 Infantry Regiment, fish shop of
Man-Myanmar Marine Products Trading, Thamadi rice shop, edible palm
oil shop of the Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd, shop of the
Ministry of Industry-1, mobile meat and fish shop of Livestock,
Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise, vegetables shop of Yangon
Station, fish shop of BTB Co., YCDC vegetables shop, meat, fish and
kitchen utensils, and other shops and cordially greeted the
customers. After giving instructions to the responsible persons,
the Secretary-3 left the market in the morning.

(5) Minister inspects construction of roads
and bridges
YANGON, 15 July-Minister for Construction Maj-Gen
Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen. Myint Thein and
officials of Public Works, heard a report by Kayin State
Superintending Engineer U Chit Pan on condition of roads and
bridges in Kayin State, 2000-2001 targets and progress of work at
the briefing hall of Special Road Construction Group-9 this
morning. The minister gave instructions on maintenance of roads and
bridges and construction of new roads.
He then met with staff of the ministry in Kayin
State and inspected Kawtkyaik-Kawpayan-Zathabyin- Mawlamyine road,
Zathabyin bridge and Attaran Bridge. He proceeded to Thanlyin Bridge
(Mawlamyine) Construction Project where he was welcomed by Deputy
Superintending Engineers U Myo Chit and U Ohn Han and officials. At
the briefing hall, Commander of South-East Command Brig-Gen. Myint
Swe, the minister and the deputy minister heard the reports by
Superintending Engineer U Myo Chit on progress in construction of
approach bridge and pillars of main bridge on Mawlamyine side;
Deputy Superintending Engineer U Ohn Han, progress in construction
of approach bridge and pillars of the main bridge on Mottama side.
The minister gave specific instructions to meet
the set standard. After that, the commander and the minister
inspected progress in construction of approach bridge and pillars on
Mawlamyine bank. They proceeded by boat to Mottama bank where they
were reported on progress of work by Project Engineer U Ohn Han and
officials. The minister gave necessary instructions. The Thanlwin (Mawla-myine)
Bridge will be 11,575 feet long. The main bridge will be 7,699 feet
long, the approach bridge on Mawla-myine bank 1,624 feet and that
of on Mottama bank 2,252 feet long. The bridge will have a
28-foot-wide motorway and two five-foot pedestrian lanes on either
side. The clearance under it will be 328 feet wide and 46 feet high.
The upper structure of the rail-cum-road bridge is of steel frames
and the approach bridges and foundation of the main bridge are of
steel reinforced concrete. The bridge will be able to bear 60 tons
of weight.
Malamyaing Farm Implements
Centre opened
YANGON, 15 July-The opening ceremony of
Malamyaing Farm Implements Centre was held at the corner of Kyundaw
and Nanattaw streets in Kamayut Township here this morning, attended
by Deputy Minister for Industry-2 Brig-Gen. Aung Thein Lin. Also
present on the occasion were members of the Yangon City Development
Committee, departmental heads, officials, members of Board of
Directors of Malamyaing Enterprise Ltd and invited guests.
Managing Director of the enterprise U Htay Hlaing
explained the opening of the centre. Then, Managing Director U Tun
Than of the Myanma Agriculture Service, Ministry of Agriculture and
Irrigation, members of YCDC U Aung Soe and Col Thaung Wai formally
opened the centre. Deputy Minister Brig-Gen. Aung Thein Lin pressed
the button to open the signboard of the centre.
Afterwards, the deputy minister and guests looked
around the centre. Quality seeds, insecticides, medicines, weed
killer, fertilizers produced by Malamyaing Enterprise Ltd, Myanma
Awba Syndicate, Golden Co., Myanmar Nichemin Co., Poly Ice Co. and
others, and tractors and power tillers produced by the Ministry of
Industry-2, are on sale at reasonable prices there for farmers and
cultivators.

(6) F&R Minister tours Mandalay, Sagaing
Divisions
YANGON, 15 July-Minister for Finance and Revenue
U Khin Maung Thein, together with Governor of the Central Bank of
Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung and officials, met with the officials and
staff of departments under the ministry at the hall of Mandalay
Division Internal Revenue Department on 13 July. The officials
reported on progress of work to the minister who gave necessary
instructions. Then, the minister explained economic policy and
development tasks being carried out by the State and inspected the
departments and bank branches in Mandalay.
Then, CEC member of the Union Solidarity and
Development Association U Khin Maung Thein presented exercise
books, pencils and cash for Maha Aungmyae Township USDA at Waso
Kyaung Dhammayon yesterday. The minister also met with the staff at
the Mya Ayeya Hall in Sagaing and gave instructions. He met with
the officials and staff of departments and banks under the ministry
and executives of NyaungU District USDA at the hall of Myanma
Economic Bank (NyaungU District branch) this afternoon . Afterwards,
he presented exercise books and pencils to Secretary U Ye Myint for
NyaungU District USDA.
Agricultural and livestock
breeding work in Insein Township inspected
YANGON, 15 July-Member of the State Peace and
Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and
Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung
Than, accompanied by Commander of No 3 Military Region Col Yan
Naing Oo and staff officers of the command, inspected agricultural
and livestock breeding work in local battalion in Insein Township,
Yangon North District, this afternoon.
At the meeting hall of the battalion, Commander
Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and party heard a report by Maj. Soe Min Oo
on cultivation of monsoon paddy, the growing of vegetables and
perennial crops and raising of poultry, pigs and fish. The
commander gave instructions on carrying out agricultural and
livestock breeding work by four methods, sale of farm produce at
tax-free markets in Yangon and constant growing of vegetables.
He then inspected the growing of pineapples,
white waxy flowers and kitchen crops and gave instructions on
growing on all vacant land and planting of perennial trees such as
neem trees, tamarind trees and toddy palms. Afterwards, he
inspected raising of RIR breed layers, broilers, fish and pigs and
left instructions. In 2001-2002 the battalion has cultivated 110
acres of monsoon paddy, nine acres of vegetables, ten acres of
perennial crops and ten acres of white waxy flowers and yellow waxy
flowers. It is raising 12,000 broilers, 2,000 layers, fish on 29
acres of land and 245 pigs. The farm produce is being sold to
families the battalion and at tax-free markets.

YANGON, 15 July-At the invitation of Minister for
Mines Brig-Gen. Ohn Myint, a three-member delegation led by Minister
of Land and Resources Mr Tianfengshan of the People's Republic of
China arrived here at 12.15 p.m. today. They were welcomed at the
airport by Minister Brig-Gen. Ohn Myint, Deputy Minister U Myint
Thein, the directors-general, managing directors, officials and
Ambassador of China Mr Li Jinjun.
PRC Minister visits museums,
Shwedagon Pagoda
YANGON, 15 July-Minister of Land and Resources Mr
Tianfengshan of the People's Republic of China and party, who
arrived here at the invitation of Minister for Mines Brig-Gen. Ohn
Myint, visited the Myanma Gems Museum on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road at 3
p.m. today. Managing Director U Khin Oo of Myanma Gems Enterprise
conducted the guests around the museum. The visiting minister signed
in the visitors' book. Then, the visiting minister and party
together with the Deputy Minister visited the Drugs Elimination
Museum at the corner of Kyundaw and Hanthawady roads in Kamayut
Township where Police Maj. Kyi Soe of the Central Committee for
Drug Abuse Control and officials welcomed and conducted them around
the museum. After signing in the visitors' book there, the Chinese
minister and party proceeded to the Shwedagon Pagoda and paid

YANGON, 15 July-The families of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs offered a day's meal to the State
Pariyatti Sasana University (Yangon) at the University on Kaba Aye
Hill, here, this morning. Present were Minister for Foreign Affairs
U Win Aung and wife Daw San Yon, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win
and wife Daw Khin Swe Soe, directors-general, ambassadors, deputy
directors-general, staff families, Director-General of Religious
Affairs Department Dr Myo Myint and officials. Chief Patron of the
University Sayadaw Agga Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Vannita
administered the Five Precepts. Then, the minister and wife, the
deputy minister and wife and the officials presented offertories to
the members of the Sangha. The minister then donated K 100,000 for
a day's meal to Director-General Dr Myo Myint. The Sayadaw
delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained. After the
ceremony, the minister and wife, the deputy minister and wife and
the families offered 'soon' to the members of the Sangha.
MMCWA offers Waso robes
YANGON, 15 July-The Waso robe offering ceremony
of the Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association was held at
the multi-purpose room of the association in South Okkalapa Township
this morning. Chairperson of MMCWA Prof. Dr Daw Kyu Kyu Swe,
Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, executives, patrons, staff
and invited guests attended the ceremony. Presiding Sayadaw
Bhad-danta Sobhana of No 1 Compound Shwemyintmo Mogok Vipassana
Kyaung-taik administered the Five Precepts. Then, the chairperson,
the vice-chairperson and the executives offered Waso robes and
offertories to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha, followed by
sharing of merits gained. Then, soon was offered to the Sayadaws.

YANGON, 15 July-Minister for Communications,
Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen. Thein Zaw, who attended the First
ASEAN Telecommunication Ministers' Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia on 13- 14 July, arrived back here this afternoon. The
minister was welcomed back at the airport by Minister for Hotels
and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen. Thura
Aye Myint, the heads of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications and
Directorate of Communications and family members. Member of the
delegation Assistant General Manager U Zaw Tint of MPT also arrived
back on the same flight.
