(1) Minister for Industry-2 inspect Indagaw Industrial Zone

YANGON, 14 July-Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and Deputy Minister Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw  arrived at Indagaw Industrial Zone of the Ministry of Industry-2 in Bago Division this morning. The director-general  and managing directors of the ministry reported on technicians' arrival from the People's Republic of China for  installation of machines at radiator workshop and disc wheel workshop, equipment, sites chosen for new projects and  construction of factory. Deputy Minister Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw gave a supplementary report. The minister met  Chinese technicians and inspected arrangements for installation of machines at the workshops. The minister toured  the Industrial Zone and gave instructions on supervision of security, coordination on transport of machines imported  and quality of materials used.

Lawka Nanda River Water Pumping Project inspected

YANGON, 14 July- Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, together with Director-General of Civil  Aviation Department U Win Maung and officials, arrived at the Lawka Nanda River Water Pumping Project in  Bagan yesterday. At the briefing hall, Assistant Director of Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of  River Systems U Ko Ko Gyi and Assistant Engineer of Water Resources Utilization Department U Soe Myint  reported on work being done. After fulfilling the requirements, the minister inspected the project worksite and gave  instructions. Then, the minister and party inspected progress in construction of embankment for prevention of the bank erosion near Lawka Nanda Pagoda. Later, the minister left instructions on construction of the stone embankment and systematic arrangements for durability.

(2) Regional development work in Kyaukse, Meiktila Districts inspected

YANGON, 14 July- Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Chairman Central Command Commander  Maj-Gen Ye Myint, accompanied by departmental officials, inspected progress in construction of earth road from  Mandalay International Airport entrance road to Saga-In junction and Saga-In, and the building of Ngazinyaing  Chaung-gwa-Aleywa-Buyauk-Hmyawywa-Hsihsongon-Peku-DawnU road in TadaU Township and attended to the needs on 12 July. Then, the commander inspected repair of roads in the villages and construction of roads linking  villages and fulfilled the requirements. Afterwards, he inspected studying of the students at Audio Lab in Chaunggwa  BEHS in the same township and gave instructions on greening of the school compound and water supply.

The commander, together with Commander of No 99 Light Infantry Division Brig-Gen. Htay Oo and officials,  inspected progress in construction of two-storey building and arrangements of Language Lab at No 3 BEHS in  Meiktila. The commander later inspected in-flow of water into Kanna Dam near Kanna Village, Natogyi Township,  and storage of water, LRA (5066) strain pre-monsoon cotton plantation of farmer U Kyaw Htay and in-flow of water  into Zidaw Reservoir and fulfilled the needs. He attended the membership application presentation ceremony of Meiktila District USDA held at the Mingalar Hall in Meiktila. Respective township USDA secretaries presented  31,446 membership applicationsÑ10,000 from Meiktila; 8,000 from Mahlaing; 7,421 from Wundwin and 6,025  from Thazi Ñ to the commander. Meiktila District Peace and Development Council presented K 10,000 and  Meiktila, Thazi, Wundwin and Mahlaing Township Peace and Development Councils, K 20,000 each for USDA to  the Secretary of District USDA U Saw Htay.

Commander inspects construction of Taungup-Maei road section

YANGON, 14, July- Chairman of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Commander of Western Command  Maj-Gen Aung Htwe inspected construction of Taungup-Maei road section of Yangon-Kyaukphyu Road on 12 July.  The commander inspected construction of Tanhlwe Bridge. Deputy Superintending Engineer of construction special  group-13 U Soe Myint reported on progress of work and completion of the project as scheduled.

The Bailey-type Tanhlwe Bridge is 600 feet long and 12 feet 4 inches wide. The commander went to the project  office of construction special group-8 in Taungup where Deputy Superintending Engineer U Tin Htut and officials  reported on repair and renovation of roads and bridges and requirements. The reinforced concrete Maei Bridge is  940 feet long and 30 feet wide, Kyaukkyipauk Bridge, 300 feet long and 30 feet wide, is also a reinforced concrete
one. Sanepauk Bridge, 820 feet long and 30 feet wide, and Minkyaung Creek Bridge, 1,900 feet long and 30 feet  wide are under construction. The commander inspected progress building of Pyae Creek Bridge on Taungup- Thandwe road. Deputy Superintending Engineer U Soe Myint and officials reported on progress of work. The  commander then gave instructions. The Bailey-type Pyae Creek Bridge is 440 feet long and 12 feet 4 inches wide.
 
High school completion certificates presented in Kengtung

YANGON, 14 July-  High school completion certificates were presented to the students for the 2000-2001 academic year at No 1 Basic Education High School in Kengtung Township, eastern Shan State, on 11 July morning. Present at  the ceremony were Chairman of Shan State East Peace and Development Council Commander of Triangle Region  Command Maj-Gen Thein Sein, senior officials of the military command, division, district and township level  officials, the division level education officer, the school head, teachers, students and members of the school board of trustees. The school head gave an address and presented the certificates to 108 students. The students entertained the  guests with dance and songs. After the ceremony, the commander cordially greeted the school head, teachers and  members of the school board of trustees. The commander also looked into the requirements presented by them.

(3) Commander discusses regional development work

YANGON, 14 July- Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Southwest  Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann met with secretaries, executives and members of Maubin District and  township Union Solidarity and Development Associations at the office of Maubin District USDA office on 12 July.  Then, the commander met with officials of social organisations in the district at the meeting hall of Maubin District  Peace and Development Council. Officials accepted donations made by wellwishers through the Division Peace and Development Council. Later, he met with district and township level departmental officials, members of ward and  village Peace and Development Councils in four townships in Maubin District and officials of social organisations.  Next, the commander met with departmental officials and officials of social organisations at the briefing hall of  Pantanaw bridge project in Pantanaw township. Then, the commander met with members of the supervisory  committee for boosting of agriculture and livestock production at the office of construction (6) of Irrigation  Department in Pantanaw township and attended to the needs.

(4) Cash assistance presented to aged war veterans of Mayangon

YANGON, 14 July- Myanmar War Veterans Organization Central Organizing Committee presented cash assistance  to aged war veterans of 75 and above of the Mayangon Township War Veterans Organization this afternoon at  Mayangon Township Peace and Development Council Office. Chairman of Yangon Division War Veterans  Organization Supervisory Committee member of Yangon City Development Committee Col Tin Soe and officials  gave the cash assistance to the aged war veterans. Also present at the ceremony were Chairman of Yangon West  District Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon West District War Veterans Organizatio Supervisory  Committee Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein, Secretary of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Major  Chit Nyunt Chairman of Mayangon Township Peace and Development Council U Hla Moe, Secretary of Mayangon  Township Union Solidarity and Development Association U Win Kyi and members of Mayangon Township War Veterans Organization. Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon  West District War Veterans Organizatio Supervisory Committee Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein gave a speech.

Member of Mayangon Township  War Veterans Organization Brig-Gen. Khin Ohn (Retired), on behalf of the over-75-year-old war veterans, spoke  words of thanks. Chairman of Yangon West District War Veterans Supervisory Committee Lt-Col Maung Maung  Shein gave the concluding remarks. A total of K 2.35 million were presented to the aged war veterans at the ceremony.
 
No 11 LID soccer tourney begins

YANGON, 14 July- The No 11 Light Infantry Division Commander's championship trophy soccer tourney began at  the sports ground at Indaing Station this morning. Present were Commander of the No 11 LID Col Ko Ko and wife,  senior military officers, personnel and families of the battalions and units under the LID and footballers of the 11  participating teams. The LID commander gave a speech and declared the tourney open. The matches continue till 4  August.

(5) Police chief visits Youth Rehabilitation Camp

YANGON, 14 July- Secretary of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Director-General of Myanmar  Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win inspected Shwepyitha Youth Rehabilitation Camp at Wethtigan village, Pyay  Township, Bago Division, yesterday. Accompanied by senior police officers, the MPF director-general met with  staff of the camp and gave suggestions. He also looked into the requirement for raising poultry at the camp. The  police chief and party then met with the trainees of the No 2 Police Training School at Wethtigan and urged them to  strive to become excellent police members with patriotism and qualification and to enable MPF to stand firmly as the Tatmadaw.

Myanmar-Singaporean cardiac team treats patents

YANGON, 14 July- The Singaporean Cardiac Specialist Physicians led by Dr Charles Chan and Myanmar Cardiac  Specialist Physicians are performing treatment on patients at the Asia Royal Cardiac and Medical Care with the use  of a modern cardiac-treatment machine owned by the Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association. This is the  fourth time the foreign physicians took part in the cardiac treatment operation at the Asia Royal Cardiac and Medical  Care. A Japanese team led by Dr Hideo Tamai visited the hospital in September 2000, a Singaporean team led by Dr  Leslie Lam, on December the same year, and a Japanese team led by Dr Hideo Tamai, in May 2001.
 
Armed Forces Day photo competition

YANGON, 14 July- The 57th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Commemorative Literary and Photo Competitions  Organizing Work Committee announced today that it will hold the colour photo competition. The two titles for the  competition are "The Developments in Myanmar" and "The Cherishable Culture and Art". The photographers may  send four 10-in by 12-in print photos for the each contest. Those who won first, second or third prizes in the previous  competitions will be categorized into a separate group in this year's competition. Prizes will be presented to the first, second and third prize winners at the 57th Anniversary Armed Forces Day celebrations in Yangon on 27 March.  Competitors may send their photos to U Tun Min, Director, Information and Public Relations Division of the  Information and Public Relations Department, No 22-24 Pansodan Street, Yangon not later than 14 February.

(6) Deputy Minister for Mines inspects copper project in Salingyi Township

YANGON, 14 July- Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein, Managing Director of No 1 Mining Enterprise U  Saw Lwin and officials inspected extraction of refined cathode copper of Myanma Ivanhoe Copper Co Ltd in  Salingyi Township on 11 July. The deputy minister met the general manager and officials at Kyaesabai Yeiktha and  discussed implementation of the project. The deputy minister inspected mine sites of Sabaitaung Mines and  construction of pad-2 for heap leaching. Officials reported on long-term mining plan, modification and addictions for heap leaching and sowent extraction of copper ores and project on recovery of copper from old floatation plant tailings on 12 July. The deputy minister gave instructions on measures to be taken by joint venture company and No  1 Mining Enterprise for exceeding the targets. The deputy minister and party inspected washing and screening plant  for tines, cathode projection tank house and mining town hospital. In the evening, the 25th meeting of Board of  Directors of Myanmar Ivanhoe Copper Co Ltd and its 5th annual general meeting were held and work for 2000-2001  and preparations for implementation of Letpandaung deposit development plan were discussed.

(7) USDA youth delegation leaves for Japan

YANGON, 14 July- Group leader U Soe Soe of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and the nine- member youth delegation left here for Japan by air yesterday evening to attend International Youths Development  Exchange Programme organized by the Japanese government office. They were seen off at Yangon International  Airport by CEC member of USDA U Than Shwe and officials of USDA Headquarters.

Students leave for Fukuoka

YANGON, 14 July- Ten students of states and divisions led by Daw Tin Aye Sint, Headmistress of Basic Education  High School No 2, Kamayut Township, left here for Japan to attend the 13th Get-together of the Youths of Asia and  the Pacific Region in Fukuoka yesterday evening. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Deputy  Minister for Education Brig-Gen. Soe Win Maung, Director-General of the Education Planning and Training  Department U Bo Win, Director-General of No 1 Basic Education Department U Tin Nyo, Director-General of No 3 Basic Education Department (Yangon City) U Tin Win, officials of the Basic Education Departments and their families.

(8)  Accounting and Management Course opens

YANGON, 14 July- The UMFCCI Level 1 Applied Accounting and Management Course No 7 opened at the Union  of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry office today. President of UMFCCI U Win Myint  gave the opening address. Personnel concerned explained the purpose of opening the course. Sixty-three trainees are  attending the five-month course.

Nursery Market Festival continues

YANGON, 13 July- Chemical fertilizers, insecticides and natural fertilizers were on sale at the Nursery Market  Festival in Bahan Township today. At the festival, seasonal crops were available and agricultural methods can be  observed. Seeds and seedlings of vegetables and quality graft saplings were also sold.
