(2) Officials urged to
look into every requirement of athletes to SEA Games Myanmar
National Olympic Council meets
YANGON, 2 July - The Myanmar National Olympic
Council held its meeting No 3/2001 in Padamya Hall at National
Indoor Stadium-1 (Thuwunna) on Waizayanta Road in Thingangyun
Township this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt. Speaking at the
meeting, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt said only the promising
athletes whose standards meet those of the Southeast Asian athletes
will be sent to the XXI Southeast Asian Games.
The tentatively selected Myanmar athletes for the
Games should be trained harder for they are to compete with their
rivals of other nations who are striving to make progress in their
training as they are. As the Games are drawing nearer, the
officials should look into every requirement of the athletes and to
give supervision to the athletes to strictly observe the prescribed
rules.
The athletes as well as the officials should
harmoniously strive with the national spirit to win medals at the
Games as hoped by the people. Secretary of MNOC Minister for Sports
Brig-Gen. Thura Aye Myint explained the coordinations being made
with the XXI SEA Games Steering Committee in making preparations to
take part in the Games, training being given to the athletes
event-wise up to the end of June 2001, the sporting events in which
Myanmar will take part, hosting of international sports events,
offering of mental education on sports, gathering of new generation
athletes and plans to launch activities commemorating the SEA Games
and the national day of Malaysia. The participants then gave
suggestions.
Also present at the meeting were members of MNOC,
the ministers, members of Myanmar Olympic Committee, presidents and
officials of sports federations and officials of the State Peace and
Development Council Office and Sports and Physical Education
Department and guests. After the meeting, the Secretary-1 inspected
track suits and sports equipment for athletes of the Myanmar
Shooting Federation.

YANGON, 2 July- Secretary-1 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt received Ambassador of
India Mr Shyam Saran who had completed his tour of duty in Myanmar
at the guest house of the Ministry of Defence at 9 am today. Also
present together with the Secretary-1 were Minister for Foreign
Affairs U Win Aung and Director-General of Protocol Department Thura
U Aung Htet.

YANGON, 3 July- The Chairman of the State Peace

Win, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Union of
Myanmar to the Kingdom of Nepal, as Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to the State of Israel.

Ministry of
Foreign Affairs opens Certificate Course in Basic Diplomatic Skills
(BDS-4/2001)
YANGON, 2 July -The opening ceremony of the
Certificate Course in Basic Diplomatic Skills (BDS-4/2001) sponsored
by Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held at Wunzin Minyaza Hall of
the ministry this morning. Present at the opening ceremony of the
course in diplomatic skills were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win
Aung, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win, heads of department, Myanmar
Ambassadors, senior diplomats, the rectors and professors of the
universities and trainees. Various subjects including protocol,
international conference, international etiquette, international
correspondence, international law and negotiation techniques and
others which are very beneficial to the diplomats are being lectured
in the twelve-week course.

inspects construction of rail road
YANGON, 2 July - Minister for Rail Transportation
U Pan Aung, accompanied by Deputy Minister Thura U Thaung Lwin and
officials, inspected the site chosen for the axis from Namhsan
railway station to Maingseik in Shan State on 30 June. The minister
gave suggestions to officials on arrangements for production of
laterite and attended to their needs of health and welfare.

YANGON, 2 July-With the patronage of Minister for
Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and wife Daw San Yon, the Waso-robe
offering ceremony of families of Ministry of Foreign Affairs was
held at Mingun Tipitaka Nikaya Kyaungtaik on Sakawa Street this
morning. Present were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and
wife, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and
wife, the directors- general, the deputy directors-general and their
wives and staff families. Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung
and wife Daw San Yon, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win and wife Daw

offertories to members of the Sangha. Then, Tipitaka Dhara

Labour Ministry holds first
four-monthly coord meeting
YANGON, 2 July-The Ministry of Labour held its
first four-monthly coordination meeting (2001) at Ahlon Main
Medical Depot of the Social Security Board on Strand Road in Ahlon
Township this morning, with an address by Minister for Labour Maj-Gen
Tin Ngwe. Also present were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen. Win Sein,
directors-general, chairmen and medical superintendents of
departments, committees and workers' hospitals and others. The
minister gave an address on the occasion. State/division managers,
medical superintendents and zonal heads of Social Security Board and
the office of Central Inland Freight Handling Committee reported on
the work done and cultivation of vegetables state/division-wise.
The chairman of SSB and the director-general of CIFHC then reported
on the review and the tasks implemented. The first-day session
ended in the evening.
Inter-Country Training Course on the Assessment of Diseases Coding
opened
YANGON, 2 July-Inter-Country Training Course for
Trainers on the Assessment of International Classification of
Diseases (ICD-10) Coding in the Countries of the Region was opened
at the meeting hall of National Health Committee this morning.
Present were Deputy Minister for Health Professor Dr Mya Oo,
Director-General of Health Planning Department Dr Kyi Soe, the
directors-general under the Ministry of Health, WHO Resident
Representative Dr Agostino Borra, 27 trainees of Myanmar,
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand, the rectors of
Institutes of Medicine, medical superintendents and course
instructors.
Deputy Minister Professor Dr Mya Oo said the
course is aimed at improving overall validity and reliability of
morbidity and mortality statistics in the member countries and also
to identify specific weaknesses in the coding process of (ICD-10) in
the member countries so that corrective measures or reorientation
courses can be carried out accordingly. He said in health care
delivery system, medical records play an unavoidable unit-based
document for individual patient care, communication between health
care providers of the patient and as an evident for forensic
medicine. He said computerized medical record network system is
being started in some hospital in Myanmar to keep up timely
information retrieval and report. In addition, by using ICD-10 for
disease coding data entry, processing and analysis of hospital
statistics, it tends to provide decentralized management of its own
hospital up to the international standard. WHO Resident
Representative Dr Agostino Borra spoke. The course continues till 5
July.

Printing Course No 2/2001
YANGON, 2 July- The opening ceremony of the Basic
Printing Course No 2/2001 sponsored by the Printing and Publishing
Enterprise was held at GTC Press in Aung San, Insein Township, this
morning, attended by Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung.
Present also were Managing Director of PPE Col Myint Thein,
Managing Director of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise U Bo Kyi,
Adviser at the Ministry of Information U Than Maung, General
Manager of PPE Lt-Col Thet Soe, Director (News) of News and
Periodicals Enterprise U Hla Tun, Head of Office Captain Soe Aung,
the Deputy General Managers of PPE, guests, course instructors and
trainees. First, Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung made an opening address.
Altogether 24 trainees are attending the eight-week course. After
the opening ceremony, Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung inspected the
press.

inspects prawn breeding tasks
YANGON, 2 July-Chairman of Extended Meat and Fish
Breeding and Production Committee Minister at the Prime Minister's
Office Lt-Gen. Tin Ngwe, together with Vice-Chairman Minister for
Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen. Maung Maung Thein and Secretary
Deputy Minister U Aung Thein, arrived at the Kyauktan Township
Fisheries Department Office in Yangon (South) District yesterday
morning. He heard the reports of Head of the Yangon Division
Fisheries Department U Khin Maung Win and prawn breeding
entrepreneurs and attended to the needs. Then, they inspected the
Pale Nadi Prawn Breeding Camp near Hmawwun Creek in the township
and gave instructions. They also inspected the Universal Concord
Prawn Breeding Camp, the Winner Brothers Prawn Breeding Camp and the
Prawn Breeding Camp of Production Department of the Yangon City
Development Committee.

coordination meeting of Prisons Department was held at the Prisons
Department (Head Office) this morning. Minister for Home Affairs Col
Tin Hlaing delivered an address. Also present were Deputy Minister

YANGON, 2 July-Minister for Culture U Win Sein
accompanied by Director-General U Nyunt Han of Archeological
Department, Director-General U Kyaw Win of Fine Arts Department and
officials arrived at the office of reconstruction site of
Kanbawzathadi Palace of King Bayintnaung in Bago this morning. At
the briefing hall, Tampawady U Win Maung, Superintending Engineer U
Kyi Tun of Division Construction Group (5) and officials reported
to the minister on the work. Then, the minister inspected the
construction site and gave necessary instructions.

Myanmar Women's Day held
YANGON, 2 July-Talks hailing the Myanmar Women's
Day were held at No 1 Basic Education High School in Kamayut
Township this morning. Present were Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar
National Working Committee for Women's Affairs Professor Daw May
May Yi, member Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and members, member of Yangon
Division Working Committee for Women's Affairs Daw Malar Tint,

(8) Cash donated for
construction of Lawka Chantha Ordination Hall
YANGON, 2 June-A ceremony to present cash
donations for construction of Lawka Chantha Ordination Hall was
held at Nikaya Sarthintaik in Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon
East District, this afternoon, attended by member of the State Peace
and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and
Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung
Than. Also present were Sayadaws led by Presiding Monk of the
Sarthintaik Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Kalyana,
Vice-Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council
Deputy Commander Brig-Gen. Hsan Hsint and members, military region
commanders, local authorities, wellwishers and guests. The Sayadaw
invested the congregation with the Five Precepts. Then, the
commander and others presented offertories to the Sayadaws. Engineer
in-charge U San Hlaing reported on construction of the ordination
hall. The deputy commander gave a supplementary report. The
donations amounted to K 11,164,800 by well-wishers. The commander
accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the
wellwishers. The Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of
merits gained, and the ceremony came to a close.
Basic
traditional medicine course opens
YANGON, 2 July - Course No 1/2001 on basic
traditional medicine and primary health care was opened in Yan
Nyein Aye Hall in Mayangon Township this morning. The course is
jointly sponsored by the Directorate of Public Relations and
Psychological Warfare of the Ministry of Defence and the
Traditional Medicine Department of the Ministry of Health.
Brig-Gen. Khin Aung Myint of the Ministry of Defence delivered the
opening address. Also present were Deputy Minister for Health Prof.
Dr Kyaw Myint, Acting Director-General of TMD Dr Myat Moe,
officials, course instructors and 50 trainees.
Sakai construction machinery
demonstrated
YANGON, 2 July-Shwe Than Lwin Trading Co. Ltd,
Sole Agent of Sakai Heavy Industries Ltd, Japan, for Myanmar, held
a demonstration of construction machinery on the plot at the corner
of Bayintnaung Road and Thamaing Station Road this morning. It was
attended by Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen. Myint Thein,
departmental officials, construction entrepreneurs and guests.
First, General Manager U Kyaw Kyaw Soe of Shwe Than Lwin Trading
Co. Ltd made a speech.
Then, General Manager Mr Yoshio Tani and Manager

(9) " Ecstasy " pills
seized in Dagon
YANGON, 2 July-Members of local intelligence unit
and local police force, acting on information, while lying in wait
near the International Hotel at the corner of Ahlon Street and Pyay
Road, searched Kyaw Thu Latt (a) Kyaw Thu of Myoma Ward, Mogok, and
found 52 " Ecstasy" pills on 16 June. After further investigation,
the authorities arrested the owner of the drugs, See Kyin (a) Asan
of Bogyoke Street, Tangyan. The police station concerned has taken
action against them under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law.
