Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye left here for
Heho Airport in Kalaw Township, Shan State, by Tatmadaw aircraft
yesterday morning. The General was accompanied by Secretary-3 of the
State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen. Win Myint,
Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Kyi Min, the ministers, the
Chief of Staff (Air) and senior military officers, heads of the
State Peace and Development Council Office and departments. On
arrival at the Heho airport at 9.20 am, the General and party were
welcomed by member of the State Peace and Development Council
Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of
Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen
Saw Tun, Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung and Deputy
Minister Thura U Thaung Lwin, Commander of No 55 LID Brig-Gen. Sein
Lin, senior military officers and departmental officials.
The General and party went to Ayethaya Industrial
Zone in Ayethaya Myothit, Taunggyi Township, by car, and met with
industrialists at the supervisory office of the industrial zone. The
General said that the government and the people are cooperating in
building a peaceful, modern and developed nation. Now the population
of Myanmar has reached about 52 million. Efforts have been made to
produce food enough for 52 million people, and over 1,000 million
baskets of paddy have now been produced, and therefore, not only is
the amount of paddy sufficient, but there is also surplus of paddy.
Arrangements have been made to produce food sufficient for the
future population of 100 million. Cultivated areas have been
extended, and measures have been taken to boost production. Single
cropping has been switched to double cropping and triple cropping.
Modern agricultural methods have been used.
Thus, efforts have been made to ensure that there
is no need to worry about food for the future population. Efforts
have been made not only for the development of the agriculture
sector but also to build the nation into an industrialized one. Only
when the nation becomes an industrialized nation, will it become a
modern and developed one. To build an industrialized nation, 18
private industrial zones have been set up all over the nation. As
regards building an industrialized nation, sufficient supply of
electric power is essential. During the third five-year plan,
arrangements have been made to generate more power. The government
is making all-out efforts for the development of private industries.
The industrialists from Ayethaya Industrial Zone
need to make efforts to turn the industrial zone into the one based
on production and to strive for the emergence of import-substitute
industries and farm equipment industries. In producing farm
equipment, it is very important that equipment suits the taste of
users. Two industrialists reported on the need for the upgrading of
roads and for telephone lines in the zone. Minister for
Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen. Thein Zaw explained
matters related to installation of telephone lines. Chairman of the
Central Committee for Industrial Development General Maung Aye gave
instructions and had a cordial meeting with the industrialists.
Then, the General and party inspected weeding machines,
seed-spreading machines, ploughs, power tillers and spare parts of
motor vehicles manufactured in the industrial zone. The General and
