and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt inspected preparations

Secretary-1, accompanied by officials of the State Peace and

YANGON, 18 June- The National Convention
Convening Commission held a meeting at the meeting hall of NCCC
Office at 2 p.m. today. Present on the occasion were Chairman of

factory, paper mill
YANGON, 18 June- Minister for Industry-1 U Aung
Thaung, accompanied by departmental officials, visited Winthuza
Shop of the ministry in Meiktila, Mandalay Division, yesterday. The
minister inspected products of the Ministry of Industry-1, the
Ministry of Industry-2, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation
and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.
The minister gave instructions on public
relations. Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Union
Solidarity and Development Association U Aung Thaung went to the
office of Meiktila District USDA at 1 p.m., and met with district
and township executives and organizers. Commander of Central Command
Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Chairman of Myanma Industrial Development
Committee Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung met with
industrialists at Meiktila Industrial Zone. Minister U Aung Thaung
proceeded to the textile factory of Myanma Textile Enterprise in
Wundwin. Managing Director U Oo Thein Maung and Factory Manager Daw
Cho Ma Ma Lay reported on the work of the factory. The minister
gave instructions on prevention of natural disaster.
Then, the minister inspected the factory. Minister U Aung Thaung
went to No 3 Paper Mill (Paleik) of Myanma Paper and Chemicals
Enterprise at 6 p.m. General Manager U Thein Soe and Factory Manager
Maj Paik Hmu. The minister gave instructions on production of
quality paper. The minister also inspected production process of

attends opening of multimedia teaching centre of Pre-primary School
YANGON, 18 June- The opening ceremony of
multi-media teaching centre of Pre-primary School under the Social
Welfare Department of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and
Resettlement was held at the school in Pyay, Bago Division (West)
yesterday morning. Present were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief
and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Deputy Minister U Hlaing Win,

YANGON, 18 June- The families of the Ministry of
Energy offered soon to the Rector Sayadaw and members of the Sangha
of the State Pariyatti Sasana University (Yangon) at Mogok Soonsar
Saung this morning. The Rector Sayadaw of the State Pariyatti
Sasana University (Yangon) Agga Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta

(4) Road Transport Administration
Department holds coord meeting
YANGON, 18 June- A work coordination meeting of
the Road Transport Administration Department was held at the
department this morning. Present were Minister for Rail
Transportation U Pan Aung, Deputy Ministers for Thura U Thaung Lwin
and U Pe Than, Director-General of RAD Col Hla Thaung Myint,
directors-general, managing directors and officials. The minister
spoke at length on the review of strong and weak points of work
performance in 2000-2001, targets for 2001-2002, called for efforts
to exceed the targets and urged all those present to render service
to the satisfaction of people. The minister presented prizes to
Pakokku, Sittway, Pathein, Myingyan and Shwebo District Offices for
their outstanding work performance. Deputy Minister U Thaung Lwin
presented prizes to Lashio, Thayet and Pakokku District Offices for
earning the largest income from vehicle registration. Deputy
Minister U Pe Than presented prizes to Lashio, Haka and Loilem
District Offices for earning the largest income from issuing

Ministry of Industry-2 holds
coord meeting
YANGON, 18 June- The first four-monthly
coordination meeting of the Ministry of Industry-2 for 2001 was
held at the ministry at 9.30 am today, attended by Minister for
Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin. Also present on the occasion were
Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen. Aung Thein Lin and Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw,
managing directors, directors-general and directors of departments
and enterprises under the ministry and factory general managers.
The minister delivered an opening speech at the meeting. The
managing directors and directors-general explained the work done in
the first four months and future tasks for the second four months.
The deputy ministers reported
matters related to marketing and quality control. The meeting came
to a close in the afternoon with concluding remarks by the
minister.

(5) Commander attends teachership diploma
presentation ceremony of Mandalay Education College
YANGON, 18 June- The first ceremony to present
teachership diploma of Mandalay Education College was held at the
National Theatre in Mandalay this morning, attended by Chairman of
Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of
Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Minister for Education U Than
Aung. Present also were Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen. Soe
Win Maung, the director-general and chairmen, departmental
officials, officials of Mandalay Division Peace and Development
Council Office, the principal and the course instructors of the
college, diploma holder trainees and their relatives. The ceremony
was opened with the playing of the National Anthem.
Then, Principal U Tin Maung Than elaborated on
holding the ceremony and presented diplomas to the trainees. At the
ceremony, 318 trainees who had completed the second year were
conferred with D T Ed (Diploma in Teacher Education) and 18
trainees who had completed the first year were conferred with Cert
Ed (Certificate in Education). There were 441 DT Ed diploma holders
including those who received diploma in absentia and 93 Cert Ed
holders. The graduates were given appointment orders as basic
education teachers.
Commander inspects agriculture
and construction work in Pyinmana and Meiktila Townships
YANGON, 18 June- Chairman of Mandalay Division
Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen
Ye Myint, accompanied by Brig-Gen. Thein Swe of Pyinmana Station and
departmental officials, inspected sugar-cane plantations near
Kyaukchet village, Pyinmana Township yesterday. The commander also
inspected the experimental corn plantation and cultivation of local
crop strains in Kyaukchet village- tract and experimental
plantations of 10 kinds of summer sesame in Shaukkon village-tract
in Takkon Township.
Then, the commander inspected the construction
site of Paunglaung Multi- Purpose Reservoir Project in Pyinmana
Township. Project Director U Win Maung of the Irrigation Department
and officials reported on the work done to the commander. The
commander inspected prevention work for erosion of Kantaung Bridge
by water near Kandawaye village in Meiktila Township and Myintaw
Lake motor road on Meiktila-Pintale road. Commander of No 99 Light
Infantry Division Brig-Gen. Htay Oo and officials reported on the
work done and the commander attended to their needs. Afterwards,
the commander inspected condition of the new two-storey school
building of

(6) Minister inspects aircraft under major
cheek
YANGON, 18 June- Minister for Transport Maj-Gen
Hla Myint Swe together with Deputy Minister Brig-Gen. Kyaw Myint
arrived at Mechanical Unit of Myanma Airways in Mingaladon this
morning. The minister inspected F 27 XY AEQ aircraft undergoing
major check. Managing Director of MA U Tin Hlaing Hmi, Chief
Engineer U Yan Pyay and officials conducted the minister round the
work site. The minister then gave instructions to officials and
inspected reconditioned F 28 aircraft. The minister also inspected
plantation for greening of Yangon International Airport and left
there.
Workshop on
Supply System Management begins
YANGON, 18 June- Workshop on Supply System
Management jointly organized by the Ministry of Health and UNICEF
was opened with an address by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein
at the meeting hall of Health Employee Training School in Dagon
Township this morning. Also present on the occasion were Deputy
Minister for Health Professor Dr Kyaw Myint, directors-general,
deputy directors-general of departments under the Ministry of
Health, rectors, residential representatives of UN agencies and
officials. Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein said that the
aim of systematically supplying medicines and medical equipment is
included in the project for promotion of efficiency of hospitals,
which is covered by the National Health Plan.
In accord with the guidance of the Head of State,
arrangements are being made to provide more staff and medical
equipment for teaching hospitals and other hospitals in
states/divisions, districts and townships. It is also necessary to
systematically keep and distribute medicines and medical equipment.
The central medical store division is providing medicines and
medical equipment for hospitals, clinics and health centres
numbering 2,184. The values of medicines and medical equipment
provided for hospitals and clinics over the past four years is K
60.6 million in
1997-98, K 211.05 million in 1998-99, K 335.28 million in 1999-2000
and K 350 million in 2000-2001. Medicines and medical equipment are
being provided with the use of the budget allotted by the State.
WHO and UNICEF also provide assistance. It is
specially required to keep systematic warehouses where medicines
and medical equipment are stored. Moreover, employees who take
charge of warehouses need to have knowledge about supply system
management. As personnel from WHO, UNICEF and various projects are
taking part in the workshop, it will produce results. Acting
Residential Representative of UNICEF Dr Rosella Moralli spoke on
the occasion. Officials of the Health Department, heads of
State/Division and Township Health Departments and residential
representatives of UN agencies are taking part in the workshop which
continues tomorrow.
Telecommunications courses

YANGON, 18 June- The Opening ceremony of TMX-10
DSS Operation and Maintenance Course, Mobile Communication Course
and Facsimile Operator Training Course was held at the
Telecommunications and Postal Service Training School this morning
with an address by Minister for Communications, Posts and
Telegraphs Brig-Gen. Thein Zaw. Also present were the managing
director of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications, the
director-general of Directorate of Telecommunications, the general
manager of MPT and 28 trainees. The principal of the training
school reported on brief history of the school and courses. The
minister inspected teaching of courses at the school and sections,
mess hall and residential quarters.

(7) Holding of opening ceremony of Drug
Elimination Museum coordinated

holding opening ceremony of Drug Elimination Museum took place at
the meeting hall of the museum at the corner of Hanthawady and
Kyundaw Roads this afternoon. It was attended by Secretary of
Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Director-General of Myanmar
Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, Secretary of Yangon Division

CSSTB holds
YANGON, 18 June- Year 2001 first four-monthly
meeting of Civil Service Selection and Training Board was held at
the meeting hall of Civil Service Affairs Department on Awaiya
Street in Tamway Township this morning. Present were Chairman of
CSSTB Dr Than Nyunt, members U Nyunt Swe, U Aung Myint, U Hla Myint

proficiency course for judicial officers opens
YANGON, 18 June- The opening ceremony of English
Proficiency Course No 2 for judicial officers was held at the
meeting hall of the Supreme Court this morning with an address by
Chief Justice U Aung Toe. Also present on the occasion were Deputy
Chief Justice U Than Oo, justices, the Director-General of the

YANGON, 18 June - The Myanma Struggle for
Independence and Thakin Ba Sein by Tekkatho Sein Tin was today

Yangon. The book described the anti- colonialist movement of Myanma
national people, the national liberation struggle, Burma
Independence Army and how BIA emerged and facts about the Thirty

National malaria control week
launched
YANGON, 18 June- Educative talks to mark malaria
control week for the second time were held at the meeting hall of
Bago People's Hospital on 14 June. Present on the occasion were
members of Division, District and Township Peace and Development
Councils, departmental heads, representatives from NGOs and health
staff totalling about 100. The division Peace and Development
Council member-1 U Kyaw Swe presided over the ceremony. Deputy Head

Military (500-bed)
YANGON, 18 June- A ceremony to present hospital
equipment to No 2 Military Hospital (500-bed) for the Tatmadawmen
who are receiving treatment in the hospital was held at the hospital
this morning. Chief of Surgery Department Col Tun Myint and
professors, donor General Manager U Sai Win Shein and officials of
Kaungsayya General Services and invited guests attended the
ceremony. General Manager U Sai Win Shein explained the donation
and presented hospital equipment worth K 100,000 to Col Tun Myint
who presented certificate of honour to the donor and spoke words of

Contraband
monosodium glutamate destroyed
YANGON, 18 June- A total of 4490 packages each
containing 500-grams of Pot brand, Palace brand and Ladle brand
monosodium glutamate were seized in Paung, Thaton and Kyaikto
townships from 11 to 31 May. The authorities destroyed the seized
contraband monosodium glutamate packages made in Thailand in the
compound of Thaton District Peace and Development Council Office on
10 June.
