for development of human resources in all sectors
YANGON, 17 June - Chairman of Myanmar Education
Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development the
Council, accompanied by ministers, the Chief of Staff (Air), the
deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development
Council Office and departmental officials, left here for Einme in
Ayeyawady Division by helicopter this morning. On arrival at Einme
at 8.30 am, they were welcomed by member of the State Peace and
Development Council Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and
Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura
Shwe Mann, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen. Tint Swe, district and
township authorities and officials.
The Secretary-1 and party went to the basic
education high school in Einme to attend the opening
ceremony of the multimedia teaching centre. They were welcomed by
the headmistress, teachers, the chairman and members of the school
board of trustees and students. Headmistress Daw Khin Nyein and
Chairman of the School Board of Trustees U Mya Win formally opened
the multimedia teaching centre. Then, the Secretary-1 formally
unveiled the signboard of the multimedia teaching centre.
Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the computer
application and e-mail room, the computer-aided instruction room,
the electronic media (language lab) room, the projected media
(overhead projector) room, the printed media (reading corner) room,
the electronic media (video system) room and watched the skill
demonstration of students.
The Secretary-1 and party inspected the domestic
science room and the painting room, and the students presented
gifts to them. Then, a ceremony to mark the opening of the
multimedia teaching centre was held in Shwenyila Hall of the
school. The students demonstrated their artistic skills.
Headmistress Daw Khin Nyein reported on efforts for the opening of
the multimedia teaching centre, and Chairman of the School Board of
Trustees U Mya Win on assistance provided by the school board of
trustees for the emergence of the multimedia teaching centre.
The Secretary-1 presented teaching aids a TV set
and video tapes to the headmistress. Then, the
Secretary-1 thanked towns elders, teachers, members of the school
board of trustees and local authorities for their concerted efforts
for the successful opening of the multimedia teaching centre at the
basic education high school in Einme. He also said that it is
satisfying to see that students are working hard in their studies.
The Secretary-1 then elaborated on the education promotion
programmes and measures being taken for the development of human
resources. Later, the Secretary-1 and party, together with the
headmistress and teachers and members of the school board of
trustees, towns elders and students, posed for documentary photos.
The Secretary-1 and party proceeded to Kyonmangay
to attend the opening ceremony of the multimedia teaching centre at
the basic education high school. On arrival there at 10.30 am, they
were welcomed by district and township authorities,
Director-General of No 1 Basic Education Department U Tin Nyo,
district and township departmental officials and members of the
Union Solidarity and Development Association. The Secretary-1 and
party went to the basic education high school in Kyonmange. They
were welcomed by the headmistress and staff, the chairman and
members of the school board of trustees and students. Headmistress
Daw Myint Myint Thein and Chairman of the School Board of Trustees U
Kyaw Maung formally opened the multimedia teaching centre. The
Secretary-1 formally unveiled the signboard of the multimedia
teaching centre.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 presented teaching
aids a TV set and video tapes to Headmistress Daw Myint Myint
Thein. Then, the Secretary-1 thanked local authorities, towns
elders, teachers and members of the school board of trustees for
their contribution to the opening of the multimedia teaching centre
at the basic education high school in Kyonmangay. He added that
systematic measures are being taken to ensure the emergence of
outstanding intellectuals and intelligentsia. At the basic education
level, education promotion programmes are being implemented step by
step. In accord with the guidance of Head of State Senior General
Than Shwe, national education promotion special four-year plan is
being implemented at the basic education level and the higher
education level with the aim of enabling the education sector of
Myanmar to keep abreast with those of the nations in South-East
Asian region. The aims and objectives of the education sector of
the State are very wide-ranging. In implementing the wide-ranging
aims and objectives of the education sector, arrangements to enlist
the participation of the people have been made since the plan was
formulated. Due to efforts of heads of schools and teachers,
assistance of the school board of trustees, the active
participation of people and wellwishers, implementation of plans
have been
making progress.
The government is striving for development of
human resources in all sectors. In addition, in the basic education
sector, the objective for ensuring all school-age children are sent
to school is being implemented and it is making progress not only
in urban areas but also in rural areas. It is encouraging to see
the decoration of the multimedia teaching centre opened today at
the basic education high school in Kyonmangay and intellectual
power and diligence of the students. Students are required to work
hard with the use of modern teaching aids and to strive to become
outstanding and efficient. Teachers are also required to train
students systematically to become intellectuals and intelligentsia
on whom the State relies. The government is taking measures for the
development of human resources, emergence of international standard
education, the turning out of all-round outstanding students and the
narrowing of the education gap between urban and rural areas. The
people need to continue to cooperate with the government.
After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party,
together with the headmistress and teachers, the chairman and
members of the school board of trustees, towns elders and students,
posed for documentary photos. After that, the Secretary-1 and party
visited Atula Buddha Maha Swedaw Pagoda in Kyonmangay. They paid
homage to the Buddha image and the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha
conveyed from Kanni. Then, the Secretary-1 made donations to the
fund of the pagoda. The Secretary-1 and party left Kyonmangay by
helicopter and arrived back here in the afternoon. Minister for
Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, who accompanied the Secretary-1, inspected
Township People's Hospital (25-bed) in Einme and Station Hospital
(16-bed) in Kyonmangay. The minister gave instructions on keeping
the hospitals and their environs clean and supply of hospital
equipment.

(2) Foodstuff sent to Tatmadawmen in
forward areas
YANGON, 17 June-Wellwishers are donating
local-made foodstuff and gifts to Tatmadawmen
discharging national defence duties in far-flung forward areas.
General Staff Officer (Grade III) Capt Aung Moe of the Office of
Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Defence and party sent the
foodstuff donated by wellwishers to the camps in remote front-line
areas for the sixth time this morning. Deputy Chief of OSS Deputy
Director of Defence Services Intelligence Maj-Gen Kyaw Win
supervised the transport of the foodstuff and gifts at Tatmadaw
Guest House on Inya Road.
The donations included 1,089 boxes each
containing 50 cartons of cigarette, 465 boxes each containing 24
tins of canned fish, 100 boxes each containing 12 packages of A & T
Mary Biscuit, 78 boxes each containing 72 bottles of TT soft drink,
66 boxes each containing 180 packages of Mamee noodle, 66 boxes
each containing 144 bottles of fried shrimp-paste, 63 boxes each
containing 120 packages of Ko Ko snack, 50 boxes each containing 90
packages of Calsium cereal, 38 boxes each containing 1,000 packets
of Gold Roast coffee mix, 30 buckets each containing ten viss of
Diamond brand butter, 38 boxes of novels, journals and magazines,
20 boxes each containing 12 tins of Top One soft drink, 20 boxes of
Owl Brand coffee mix, 15 boxes each containing 13 packages of Lon
Lon fish crispies, five boxes each containing 1,000 packets of Mya
Kalat traditional medicine, two boxes each containing 6,000 packets
of Su Su Aye Aung traditional medicine, four boxes each containing
5,000 La Min Brand cheroots and three boxes of tapes of songs "
Along-phaya-mway-de-Myanma-thway" totalling 28 tons in weight. The
convoy carrying the foodstuff left here at 5 am today.

inspects construction of Donthami Bridge
YANGON, 17 June-Minister for Rail Transportation
U Pan Aung, Managing Director of Myanma
Railways Col Min Swe and officials yesterday inspected construction
of Donthami Bridge. The minister gave instructions on worksite
safety, construction of the bridge in accord with the set standard
and completion of the bridge in time and attended to the
requirements.

(4) Poet Laureate U Soe Nyunt, recipient of
the Literary Messenger of Friendship award honoured
YANGON, 17 June-A ceremony to honour U Soe Nyunt
(Htila Sitthu), recipient of the Literary
Messenger of Friendship Award of Writers Association of the People's
Republic of China, organized by Myanmar Writers and Journalists
Association was held at Oktara Hall of Karaweik Palace this
afternoon, attended by Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Information U Thein Sein,
Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Theik Tun, member of Civil Service
Selection and Training Board U Nyunt Swe, Chinese Ambassador to
Myanmar Mr Li Jinjun, Counsellor Mr Tang Ying, Cultural Counsellor
Mrs Rem Xiuzhi, Chairman of MWJA U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung), Deputy
Chairmen U Tin Kha (Tatkatho Tin Kha), U Than Maung and Col Myint
Thein, EC members, literati and guests.
Secretary of MWJA U Hla Tun (Hla Tun Twantay)
acted as master of ceremonies. First, Chairman of MWJA U Hla Myaing
made a speech. He said he was very pleased to give a speech at the
ceremony to honour Deputy Minister for Culture Poet U Soe Nyunt (Htila
Sitthu). The chairman said the literary award is the first ever of
its kind presented to international literati by Writers Association
of the People's Republic of China with the consent of Ministry of
Culture of the PRC. The honorary certificate stated that this is to
award Mr U Soe Nyunt the honorary title of Literary Messenger of
Friendship for his outstanding contribution to the cultural
exchange and the great cause of friendship between Chinese and
Myanma peoples. Presenting the Literary Messenger of Friendship to
Htila Sitthu is a new historic milestone for the history of
China-Myanmar friendship that lasted for thousands of years and it
is a sign of exchange of friendship and cooperation between
literary worlds of the two countries. He said Myanmar and China
have been friendly nations for a long time.
The China-Myanmar friendship existed long long
ago and the friendship between the two countries has continued to
exist till the State Peace and Development Council. Frequent visits
of far-sighted leaders of the two countries strengthened Paukphaw
friendship, he added. Then, U Hla Kyaing (Paragu) presented brief
biography of U Soe Nyunt. Later, U Soe Nyunt spoke words of thanks.
He said. It was Myanmar that supported the People's Republic of
China first to become a member nation of United Nations in 1949 in
the history of friendship between Myanmar and China. Bandung
Conference was held in Indonesia in 1955.
Ten agreements and five principles of peaceful
co-existence were laid down at the conference. They are; respect
for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations,
abstention from intervention and interference in the internal
affairs of other countries, assistance in mutual interests and
cooperation, peaceful coexistence. The principles have been
practised so far. When the present government came to power Prime
Minister Mr Li Peng sent a telegram of support to Chairman of State
Law and Order Restoration Council from the aircraft on his way to
Thailand. Chairman of State Law and Order Restoration Council
Senior General Than Shwe, Vice-Chairman General Maung Aye and
Secretary-1 Lt- Gen. Khin Nyunt paid goodwill visits to PRC.
Vice-President Mr Hu Jintao of PRC and Chief of Staff General Fu
Kywun Yu of Peoples' Liberation Army visited Myanmar. Efforts for
friendship made by leaders of the two countries are very fruitful.
I have been writing and publishing news, articles
and books on policy of friendship laid down by the
leaders of the two countries. Presenting me the award means the
people of PRC present the award to the people of Myanmar. The award
brought honour to Union of Myanmar. And he expressed thanks for
holding the ceremony. Then, U Hla Myaing presented a certificate of
honour to U Soe Nyunt (Htila Sitthu). Afterwards, Secretary U Hla
Tun of MWJA thanked U Khin Shwe who donated cash for the ceremony.
Then, U Soe Nyunt cordially greeted guests before the ceremony came
to an end.

(5) Minister for Communications, Posts and
Telegraphs inspects auto-telephone exchange in Bahan Township
YANGON, 17 June-Minister for Communications,
Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen. Thein Zaw yesterday inspected the
auto-telephone exchange in Bahan Township. Chief Engineer of the
auto-telephone exchange reported on the strength of service
personnel, functions, telephone exchanges installed in Yangon,
telephone lines, the network of the telephone exchanges and
arrangements to replace old exchanges with new ones. The minister
gave instructions and inspected the equipment in the auto- telephone
exchange. The minister went to Wailuwun Radio Station where the
chief engineer and the deputy chief engineer reported on microwave
and radio communication systems, use of the mobile telephone
system, HF radio and carrier links and installation of the mobile
telephone system. The minister gave instructions and inspected the
equipment used in the cellular mobile and CDMA telephone systems.

Competitions announce
YANGON, 17 June- The list of prize-winners of the
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
Commemorative short story, article, song, poem, cartoon, painting
and poster competitions which falls on 26 June was announced today.
In the short story contest, Aung Phone Wai won the first prize,
Khin Zarni Kyaw (Kawlin) the second and Nay Chi (Magway) the third.
Special prize winners were Khin Le Le Chit (Myan/Gon), Thet Htar
Lwin, Hmwe Nge Nge Maung Thet Hnin (N/Okkalapa) and Kyaw Thit Toe.
In the article contest, Ko Ko (Research) won the first prize, Ma Hla
Thein the second and Aye Myat Myat (University of Foreign

(7) Mayor inspected the Sea Prawn breeding
farm
YANGON, 17 June - Chairman of Yangon City
Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, accompanied by officials,
inspected the sea prawn breeding farm in Kyauktan Township this
morning and attended to requirements. On arrival at the farm, the
mayor and officials were welcomed by Joint-Secretary of YCDC U Kyi
Win, Head of Production Department U Than Sein and officials of the
farm. The mayor and officials inspected the breeding of sea prawns
at the farm, and gave instructions on the marketing of sea prawns.
Later, the mayor and officials inspected the sea prawn breeding
ponds and gave instructions on the extending of the sea prawn
market. Next, the mayor inspected the fresh water prawn breeding
ponds and gave instructions on the breeding of prawns of
qua-quality strain.

Thamiddawdaya Sukhitarama Daw anacari
Myanaung Nunnery Daw Dhammikaani was held at the nunnery on Kyundaw
Street in Sangyoung
Township this afternoon. Maha Saddhammajotika-dhaja title was
conferred on her by the State Peace and Development Council.
The ceremony was attended by Daw Khin Than Nwe,
wife of Lt-Gen. Tin Oo, Director-General of
Religious Affairs Department Dr Myo Myint, Director-General of
Department for Promotion and
Propagation of the Sasana U Sann Lwin, Chairman of Sangyoung
Township Peace and Development Council U San Win and writers Daw
Mann Khin Khin, Daw Saw Mon Nyin and Daw Khin Mar Aye, officials
and disciples. The congregation received the Nine Precepts from
Vice-Chairman of the Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha
Rattha Guru Aung-myebonsan Sayadaw Bhad-dana Pa-indabhivamsa. Next,
offertories were presented to 30 members of the Sangha. Daw Khin
Than Nwe, wife of Lt-Gen. Tin Oo, presented offertories to Maha
Saddhammajotikadhaja title recipient Nun Daw Dham-mika-ani. A brief
biography of Nun Daw Dhammika-ani was read. Tipitakadhara Dhamma-
bhandagarika Agga Maha Pandita Yaw Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sirindabhivamsa
delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained.
Cash donated to Hninzigon Home
for the Aged
YANGON, 17 June-A ceremony to donate cash to
Hninzigon Home for the Aged by members of the Buddhist Fellowship
on Humanitarian Mission from Singapore (Dana Group) led by U
Candavamsa and Mr Yee Kong of Dhammaramsi Myanmar Monastery in
Singapore was held at the Hninzigon Home for the Aged on Kaba Aye
Pagoda Road here at noon today. Present were Chairman of the
Hninzigon Home for the Aged Board of Trustees U Maung Tin and
executives, aged persons and wellwishers. Those present paid homage
to Sayadaw U Candavamsa. The executives and the aged persons
presented robes and offertories to the Sayadaw. Member of the
International Relations Committee U Ba Than extended greetings and
explained facts about the Home. Afterwards, the mission presented K
100,000 to Vice- Chairman of the Board of Trustees Col Kyaw Shein (Retd).
Chairman U Maung Tin presented gifts to the wellwishers. Mr Yee
Kong explained the purpose of the donation. Then, the ceremony came
to a close.
(9) Fourth leg of New
Generation Golf Tournament on 28 June
YANGON, 17 June-The fourth leg of Han Golf
Masters' New Generation Age Group Golf Tournament, organized by
Myanmar Golf Federation and mainly sponsored by Pan-West and Han
Golf Masters Pte Ltd will be held at Yangon Golf Club, Danyingon in
Yangon on 28 June morning.
There are altogether five classes the under-10
class, the 11-12 class, the 13-14 class, the 15-17 class and the
under-18 class for women. New generation golfers may enlist at

and 723221 not later than 27 June noon. The co-sponsors of the
tournament are Wilson, Rapier (Golf Australia), Star Ice-cream, Sea
Green (Myanmar) Co Ltd and Academy Science Co Ltd.
