(1) Minister for
Construction inspects unloading of steel truss at Htidan Jetty
YANGON, 12 June-Minister for Construction Maj-Gen.
Saw Tun, Deputy Ministers U Tint Swe and Brig-Gen. Myint Thein and
officials of Public Works arrived at Htidan Jetty this evening. The
minister and party were welcomed by Captain Than Tun of MV Chin
Shwe Haw of Myanma Five Star Line and officials of Public Works.
The minister and party inspected unloading of 2,346 tons of steel
truss imported from China National Constructional and Agricultural
Machinery Import and Export Corporation of the People's Republic of
China for Ayeyawady River Bridge (Magway) from MV Chin Shwe Haw
onto Wunna Aung Tun Flat Barge. The minister gave instructions on
speedy transport of steel truss to the site and worksite safety. MV
Mongla carrying trusses for Ayeyawady River Bridge (Magway) will
arrive Yangon on 19 June.

Mayor inspect Yangon Division dengue hemorrhagic control mass
activity
YANGON, 12 June- Members of National Health
Committee Minister for Health Maj-Gen. Ket Sein and Chairman of
Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay inspected the mass
activity for Yangon Division dengue hemorrhagic control programme
at Ward 5 in Thakayta Township this morning. Also present on the
occasion were Deputy Minister for Health Prof. Dr Kyaw Myint,
Director-General Dr Wan Maung of Health Department, Head of Yangon
Division Health Department Dr Tin Maung Win, Head of Health
Department of YCDC Dr Naing Tint San, officials, members of Union
Solidarity and Development Association, Maternal and Child Welfare
Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades and local
people. In the office of the Township Administration Officer, Head
of Yangon Division Health Department Dr Tin Maung Win reported to
the minister and the mayor on outbreak of dengue hemorrhagic
disease in townships of four districts, implementation of dengue
hemorrhagic control programme in wards, villages and schools and
future tasks and Head of Health Department of YCDC Dr Naing Tint
San on taking preventive measures against dengue hemorrhagic disease
in Ward 5 of Thakayta and carrying out of dengue hemorrhagic
control programme as the mass activity. Then, the minister, the
mayor and officials inspected preventive measures against dengue
hemorrhagic fever in Ward 5 of the township.

(2) Deputy Minister
inspects Ayeyawun Nursery Garden in Dagon Seikkan Township
YANGON, 12 June- Deputy Minister for Forestry Col
Thaik Tun arrived at the briefing hall of Ayeyawun Nursery Garden
in Dagon Seikkan Township yesterday evening. The deputy minister met
Director of Yangon Division Forest Department U Ko Ko and
officials. They discussed greening works done and future tasks. The
deputy minister gave instructions on kinds of plants and number of
seasonal plants and monthly reports. Then, the deputy minister
inspected plantations by Yangon East District Union Solidarity and
Development Association and Yangon Division Forest Department. The
deputy minister then arrived at Drug Elimination Museum and
inspected measures undertaken for greening of its environs.

Exhibition on patriotism vitalization

Exhibition on patriotism vitalization was opened at Yangon East
District Information and Public Relations Department this morning.
Present on the occasion were Deputy Director-General of IPRD U Aung
Hsan, Assistant Director Thura U Swe Win, Secretary of District
Peace and Development Council Maj Win Nwe, Chairman of Township
Peace and Development Council U Maung Maung Htay, secretaries and
executives of District and Township Union Solidarity and
Development Associations and IPRD staff. IPRD Staff Officer U Thaung
Win explained the purpose of the exhibition. U Aung Hsan and Maj
Win Nwe formally opened the exhibition. The exhibition will be held
in the Tamway on 14 June, Mingala Taungnyunt on 19 June, North
Okkalapa on 21 June and South Okkalapa on 27 June.

(3) Coordination meeting
on compilation of gender indicators held
YANGON, 12 June- Myanmar National Working
Committee for Women's Affairs held a coordination meeting on
Compilation of Gender Indicators at Social Welfare Department on
Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in Mayangon Township this afternoon. Present
were Vice-Chairperson of MNWCWA Professor Daw May May Yi, committee
member Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Secretary U Sit Myaing and committee
members, delegates of the ministries. Those present took part in
the discussions on progress of work, future task and requirements.
Teachers to
attend Japan-ASEAN Youth Friendship Programme
YANGON, 12 June -Twenty teachers of Education
Planning and Training Department and Basic
Education Department of the Ministry of Education led by Education
Officer U Than Naing of EPTD left here today for Japan to attend
Japan-ASEAN Youth Friendship Programme 2001 there. The programme is
sponsored by Japan International Cooperation Agency. The delegation
members were seen off at Yangon International Airport by officials
of the ministry and Yangon JICA Office and their families.

(4) Yangon Division MPF
computer course concludes
YANGON, 12 June- The Computer Course No 2/2001
for members of Yangon Division Police Force and family members
concluded at the training hall of KMD on Seikkantha Street in
Kyauktada Township yesterday evening. Present on the occasion were
deputy commanders of Yangon Division Police Force, district
commanders, heads of branch and course instructors. At the ceremony,
Commander Police Col Tin Win gave a speech and presented
certificates to the trainees. A total of 20 trainees 13 MPF members
and seven clerks attended the 12-week course.
Myanmar to host Seminar on
Mekong Tourism Industry
YANGON, 12 June- Myanmar will host the 7th
seminar on Mekong Tourism Industry in cooperation with Asia and
Pacific Tourism Agency (PATA). Under the Ministry of Hotels and
Tourism, a committee for holding the seminar led by
Director-General U Khin Maung Latt was formed today. The committee
discussed the future programmes.

(6) Training course open
in Phaunggyi CICS
YANGON, 12 June- A ceremony to open the Service
Personnel (Supervision) Course No 56 (Teza) and Basic Service
Personnel Course No 102 (Bala) was held at Ohndaw Hall of Central
Institute of Civil Service (Phaunggyi) this morning. Rector of CICS
Col Win Maung gave an opening address. Also present at the opening
ceremony were pro-rectors, chiefs of departments, heads of
departments, lecturers, assistant lecturers, heads of sections,
course instructors, 40 trainees of Teza Company and 228 trainees of
Bala Company.
Self-reliant repaved road put back into service in Taungup
YANGON, 12 June- A ceremony to put back into
service the self-reliant Myat Setanamon repaved road was held at
the archway of the road in Taingshe Ward, Taungup Township, on 6 May
morning. Present on the occasion were members of Taungup Township
Peace and Development Council, departmental personnel and local
people totalling over 7,000. The road is 12 feet wide and 2,760 feet
long and it was built at a cost of K 5.7 million.

Day held
YANGON, 12 June - Under the joint sponsorship of
Taunggyi Township Women's Affairs Work
Committee and the Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association,
talks on Environment Day were held at the meeting hall of the
Township General Administration Department in Taunggyi. Chairman of
the Work Committee for Women's Affairs Commissioner of Shan State
General Administration Department U Ye Naing Aung delivered the
opening address. Present at the talks were departmental officials
of Shan State, District and Township levels, Union Solidarity and
Development Association members, Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare
Association members, Women's Affairs Work Committee members, Red
Cross Brigade members, Auxiliary Fire Brigade members, Ward Peace
and Development Council members and local people. Taunggyi Township
Women's Affairs Work Committee Chairman Township General
Administration Department Officer U Po Tu explained matters relating
to the purpose of holding talks. The Township Forest Department
head, the headmaster of No 3 high school in Taunggyi and officers
of Township Health Department gave talks on Environment Day.

YANGON, 12 June - Safe Security Services (SSS)
was opened at FMI Centre on Bogyoke Aung San Road here this
morning. Police Adjutant-General Police Brig-Gen. Nyo Thein and
Managing Director of SSS Ms Patricia Pan formally opened the
office. Joint-Secretary of Yangon City Development Committee U Kyi
Win unveiled the signboard. Also present on the occasion were Police
Battalion Control Commander Police Brig-Gen. Aung Nwe, officials,

YANGON, 12 June- A ceremony to present prize for
Commander-in-Chief's (Navy) Championship Chess Tournament was held
at Thiri Maha Zeya Kyaw Htin Hall of Naval Training Command
Headquarters in Thanlyin this morning. Present were officers of the
Office of Commander-in-Chief (Navy), Command Headquarters, stations
and major was vessel groups, and athletes. No 1 major war the vessel
group team won the championship shield and Naval Training Command
Headquarters was first in senior team event and L/Corporal Zaw Lin
of No 1 major war vessel group was first in individual event. On
behalf of Commander-in-Chief (Navy), Officiating Commander of
Naval Training Command Headquarters Commander Myint Thein and
officials presented prizes to the winners.

Shield Soccer Tournament ends
YANGON, 12 June- The prize presentation ceremony
for the Commander-in-Chief (Air)'s Shield Soccer Tournament was
held at the sport grounds of Ground Training Base in Meiktila at 3
p.m. yesterday. Present on the occasion were Commander of No 99 LID
Brig-Gen. Htay Oo, Commander of Ground Training Base Col Thura Khin
Maung Win, Commander of Flying Training Base Col Myat Hein,
squadron leaders and officials of Meiktila District Peace and
Development Council and Tatmadaw family members. In the final
match, Ground Training Base beat Hmawby Air Base 2-1. Officials
presented individual prizes to the winners. On behalf of the
ommander-in-Chief (Air), Commander of Ground Training Base Col
Thura Khin Maung Win presented championship shield to the Ground
Training Base team.

YANGON, 12 June - Agriculture and Irrigation
Ministry team defeated Yangon Division 90-54 in
women's round-robin series of Myanmar Chinese Traders Association
basketball championship cup today. In men's open division, Aryon Oo
team beat PRC Myanmar Embassy team 77-30 and Black Rose beat Kayin
State team 42-36. Shadow team outclassed Eagle team 91-21 in the
men's junior division, and Ahlon Youth team beat Souls team 57-56.
Sponsored by Myanmar Basketball Federation and Chinese National
Sports Association, the matches are being held at Kyaikkasan
Grounds. On 13 June, five matches one women's match, two men's
open division matches and two men's junior division matches will
be held at the same venue.

cases exposed in April
YANGON, 12 April-The Tatmadaw, the Myanmar Police
Force and the Customs Department exposed 251 drug-related cases in
April. The authorities seized 60. 7061 kilos of opium in 30 cases,
9. 7201 kilos of heroin in 82 cases, 1.2 kilo of morphine, 0 . 429
kilo of opium oil in 3 cases, 16. 8432 kilos of low-grade opium in
18 cases, 4. 8267 kilos of marijuana in 17 cases, 41.735 litres of
Phensedyl in 4 cases, 919,371 tablets of stimulant tablets, 20.68
kilos of Ephedrine in one case, 0.049 kilo of stimulant powder in
one case, 036.368 litres of Acetic Anhydride in 3 cases, 2908.4699
litres of chemical liquid in four cases, 6.5 kilos of chemical
powder, 31 cases for failure to register and three other cases.
Action was taken against 355 persons 280 men and 75 women' in
connection with 251 drug-related cases in April.
Drug
trafficker gets prison term
YANGON, 12 June-A combined team comprising
members of local intelligence unit and Yangon special anti-drug
squad, acting information, searched the house of Htwe Nyunt in Ward
20, Dagon Myo Thit (South) on 21 May and seized 5.88 Kilograms of
marijuana. Dagon Myo Thit (South) Police Force filed Htwe Nyunt,
54, son of U Pho Wai, No 884, 4th Street, Masoyein Ward, Pyinmana
under section 15/ 19 (A) of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic
Substances Law.
On 24 May, Yangon East District Court handed
down five years' imprisonment under Section 15 of Narcotic Drug and
Psychotrophic Substances Law and twenty years' imprisonment under
section 19 (A) on Htwe Nyunt, to serve seperately..
