(2) Certificates
presented to MBA graduates
YANGON, 19 May-Master in Business Administration
(MBA) certificate presentation of Management Department of Yangon
Institute of Economics and dinner were held at Mya Yeik Nyo Royal
Hotel in Bahan Township this evening, with an address by Chairman of
Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt.
Also present were the ministers, the chairman of
Civil Service Selection and Training Board, the deputy ministers,
heads of departments, the rector of Yangon Institute of Economic,
pro-rector, professors, lecturers, faculty members, guests and MBA
graduates.
First, the Secretary-1 greeted the MBA graduates.
The Secretary-1 said it is a day to be proud of
for the fourth batch of MBA graduates and it is a refreshing day
for intellectual and intelligentsia on economy who will participate
in efforts for national economic development. In efforts to raise
the national economic life, the government has been given
encouragement to national economic enterprises that can shape the
State economy and it is a very important national requirement to
produce efficient intellectual and intelligentsia who can manage
economic enterprises, he said.
In order to turn out business management experts
in Myanmar the Yangon Institute of Economics opened MBA courses in
1995. The courses came up to No 6 and four courses have been
completed. Now there are altogether 180 MBA graduates in Myanmar,
he said.
He said 12 MBA graduates are working in
government departments, seven in foreign firms, eight in UN
Agencies and organizations, 108 in local companies and 45 in their
private business.
During six years of the course, MBA graduates’
skilfully performing duties in economic sector of the
State, local and foreign companies, banks and economic enterprises
indicates the success of MBA course. Moreover, those who
established their own business and worked as business contact are
successful and it is the brilliant performance for MBA graduates,
he added.
The Secretary-1 urged officials of the course to
raise its momentum of success after gaining technical assistance
from respective departments and cooperating with business circles.
With the sufficient manpower, materials and skill, persons who are
brilliant in both theory and practice can be produced, he said.
He said the government is implementing special
four year project for promotion of national education beginning
from 2000-2001 fiscal year. Various committees comprising over 700
well-known, learned and veteran scholars have been formed in order
to produce outstanding human resources that can bring about
national development and works are now under way.
He believed that the arrangements can effectively
promote the momentum of turning out highly qualified human
resources of international standard.
In conformity with the development of technology
in the world, it is necessary to apply economics to get better
ideas and inventions in combination with modern information and
communication technology.
In the light of the world economic condition,
there emerged many changes in the world economy after Asian
economic crisis in 1997. The evident development and changes are
that previously the economic sector was based on property and
machinery, but later, more emphasis has been placed on fluctuation
of value of currencies of the nations. In the international trade
sector and establishment of industries, comparative advantage which
was previously regarded as important has been replaced by the amount
of benefits gained and the condition of the market. Therefore, the
flow of international monetary investment has to be observed.
This year, although it is estimated that the
world economy will slow down, it is expected that difficulties can
be overcome in Asian nations due to their strong economic
infrastructures and favourable economic foundations. It is believed
that being rich in national resources and highly-qualified human
resources, Myanmar will be able to face any kinds of challenge.
In view of the changes and development of the
economic systems, the market economic system which most of the
world nations have come to practise is to enable consumers to buy
goods of high quality at reasonable prices and to produce goods
competitively. In implementing the market economic system, the role
of consumers are very great, and so it is found that the concept of
Consumerism, which means giving priority to consumers, is being
practised. Moreover, consumers and customers are greater in number
day after day, and a new term Customer Economy has been coined.
Therefore, the subject about Customer Relationship Management has
emerged.
However, in developing nations including Myanmar,
due to restraints of investment and resources, only those who have
money and products are manipulating the market. Consumers are not in
a position to enjoy proper benefits. In an economic system, only
when producers and dealers compete with one another in a fair way
in order to enable consumers to buy goods with ease and to ensure
their welfare, they will all enjoy long-term benefits. Although
priority should be given to benefits in doing business, it is
necessary to take into account the long-term economic benefits and
the interests of the nation. If those who pay priority only to
short-term interests are greater in number, the entire economic
system can be affected. In other words, the nation will suffer the
loss of its interests.
Therefore, MBA graduates are required to give
their all in working for the interests of the nation,
developing economic infrastructures of the nation and establishing
the economic system. It is also
necessary to prevent the danger of egotist businessmen.
In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged MBA
graduates to take innovative measures by combining their business
knowledge with information and communication technology, to study
international changes and development after trying to accept
knowledge of seasoned persons, to do their best to become
economists and businessmen who work for the interests of the nation
and the people and to participate in building national economy life
with the use of their knowledge and skills.
Rector of Yangon Institute of Economics U Kan Zaw
spoke. The Secretary-1, Minister at the State Peace and Development
Council Chairman’s Office Brig-Gen. Abel, Minister at the Prime
Minister’s Office Lt-Gen. Tin Ngwe, Minister for Hotels and Tourism
Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen. Pyi Sone
