YANGON, S May ? Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary of the
State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt inspected construction of the
Special Psychiatric Hospital in Dagon Myothit (East) Township, Yangon Division
Duck Farm (Ywathagyi) of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries
and the Hospice In-patient (Cancer) Care Centre of U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer)
Association this morning.
The Secretary-l, accompanied by the officials of the State Peace and
Development Council Office, arrived at the construction site of the Special
Psychiatric Hospital on the bypass road in Dagon Myothit (East) Township
at 10.30 am.
They were welcomed by member of the State Peace and Development Council
Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen
Khin Maung Than, the ministers, the deputy ministers and personnel of Asia
World Construction Company Ltd. In the briefing hall the Secretary-1
heard a report on the location and area of the Special Psychiatric Hospital
and progress of work in building wards presented by Minister for
Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein. Managing Director of Asia World Construction
Company Ltd U Tun Myint Naing reported on progress of construction of the
hospital, the building of roads, water supply, the growing of flowering
plants and trees around the hospital and future tasks.
The Secretary-1 gave instructions and inspected progress of construction
work. Then, the Secretary-l went to Yangon Division Duck Farm
of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. The Secretary-l inspected
the farm and gave instructions. At the farm, over 37,000 ducks are
being raised, and meat and ducklings are on sale.
Later, the Secretary-1 and party proceeded to the Hospice In-patient
(Cancer) Care Centre of U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer) Association on No 2
Highway in Dagon Myothit (East) Township. They were welcomed
by Chairman of U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer) Association U Hla Tun, members
of the administrative board, officials and employees. Chairman U
Hla Tun gave a brief account of Hospice (Cancer) Association and
explained matters related to free treatment, care and consolation given
to in-patients, availability of donations, the strength of the staff, administration
and establishment of contact with international organizations.
The Secretary-1 attended to requirements and presented K 100,000 donated
by the National Health Committee to Chairman U Hla Tun. Then, the Secretary-1
signed in the visitors' book. The Secretary-1 spoke words of encouragement
to women in-patients who are receiving treatment and inspected patient
wards.

(2) Myanmar Lighting Manufacturing
Co Ltd opens fluorescent Lamp and accessories factory in Shwepyitha Township
YANGON, 5 May- A ceremony to open the fluorescent accessories factory
of Myanmar Lighting
Manufacturing Co Ltd was held at No 68/69 on Hlatheingi Street in Industrial
Zone-3, Shwepyitha
Township, this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen. Khin Nyunt.
Also present were ministers, deputy ministers, the Ambassador of the
Republic of Korea, officials of the State Peace and Development Council
Office, heads of department, Chairmen of Yangon North District and Township
Peace and Development Councils, members of the administrative board of
directors of Myanmar Lighting Manufacturing Co Ltd, entrepreneurs and guests.
First, Managing Director of Myanmar Lighting Manu facturing Co Ltd U
Sein Wan reported on the
establishment of the factory. Deputy Director-General of Department
of Human Settlement and Housing Development Col Tin Tun and Managing Director
U Sein Wan formally opened the factory.
Next, the Secretary-1 formally unveiled the stone plaque of the factory.
The Seaeleuy-1, the ministers, the deputy ministers and guests observed
the factory. The Secretary-1 signed in visitors' book.
The factory is established with cent-per-cent investment of nationals
entrepreneurs. It manufactures high quality fluorescent lamps and
its accessories with the use of advanced technology. It is capable of
producing from 13,000 to 23,000 fluorescent lamps a day. A new assembly
line will be installed this year and arrangements are being made
to manufacture NRC-type saving chokes and starters at the beginning
of 2002.

(3) Customs Dept holds ordination
and novitiation ceremony
YANGON, 5 May- The families of Customs Department of the Ministry of
Finance and Revenue held 14th ordination and novitiation ceremony at Minguntawya
Kyaungtaik in Inya Myaing Street, here, this morning. Present were Minister
for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, Governor of the Central Bank
of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung, Director-General of Customs Department Lt-Col
Khin Maung Lin, directors-general and managing directors of the ministry
and staff families. The minister and staff families presented offertories
to members of the Sangha led by Presiding Nayaka of Minguntawya Kyaungtaik
Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pandita. A total of 45 men were ordained, six boys were
novitiated and 23 girls were initiated into nunhood.
Myanmar draws Yunnan scoreless
YANGON, 5 May- The second Myanmar and Yunnan friendly soccer match was
held at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna at 6.30 p.m. today. Among the
spectators were Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports
Brig-Gen. Thura Aye Myint, Vice-Chairman of MOC Vice-Adjutant- General
Brig-Gen. Maung Nyo, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen. Hsan
Hsint, Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department
President of Myanmar Football Federation U Thaung Htaik, officials
of the Chinese Embassy and guests. Then, team captains exchanged
commemorative pennants. At the match, Myanmar and Yunnan played a goalless
draw.

Mr Lian and party of China National Building Material Equipment Corporation
at his office this evening.

55th Anniversary Fire Services
Day Parade held
YANGON, 5 May- The 55th Anniversary Fire Services Day Parade was held
at Nawadei sports ground in Mayangon Township this morning.
Present were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement
Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, heads of
departments under the ministry, the director-general of Fire Services
Department, the deputy director-general, directors, guests and members
of Fire Brigade. The members of Fire Brigade led by parade commander
Head of Yangon Division Fire Services Department U Mya Thein took position
in the pandal grounds.
Next, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa inspected the members of Fire Brigade.
The minister presented prizes and cash awards to t medal recipients for
excellent performance in the administration field and in the industrial
economy field, a Ye Baal medal recipient and four Ye Threin medal recipients.
The minister said. The minister urged them to participate in national
tasks and carry out defence duties with patriotism and Union Spirit.
The trainees of life saving techniques course No 8/2001 and members of
Fire Brigade from seven zones demonstrated fire-fighting skills.
Next, the director-general of Fire Services Department presented Good Service
Medals to nine service personnel and certificates to 113 auxiliary Fire
Brigade members.
The director-general and officials presented prizes to the winners of
fire-fighting skills competitions and to Taungdwingyi Township Fire Stat6ion
for its outstanding performance.

(4) Commander attends opening
of road linking Shwepyitha Bridge and Htantabin
YANGON, May- A ceremony to put back into service the road linking Shwepyitha
Bridge on Hlinethaya ban k and Htantabin was held at the archway down the
road this morning attended by member of the State Peace and Development
Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander
of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than.
Also present on the occasion were Secretary of Yangon Division Peace
and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint, Chairman of Yangon North District
Peace and Development Council Lt-Col San Matu, departmental officials,
authorities of Hlinethaya and Htantabin townships, members of Union Solidarity
and Development Association and Maternal and Child Welfare Association
and local people totalling over 3,000.
In-charge of the road construction Assistant Engineer U Tin Maung Soe
of Yangon Division Development Affairs Committee re ported on construction
of the road. On behalf of the local people, Htantabin Township USDA Executive
U Kyaw Tint spoke words of thanks. Then, the Executive Officer of Htantabin
Township Development Affairs Committee presented commemorative pennants
to the commander and departmental heads. Afterwards, Yangon Division Development
Affairs Committee Director Soe Tint and Chairman Lt-Col San Matu formally
opened the road. The commander and guests inspected the road.
A total of 12 feet wide laterite road was paved along the 50 feet wide
and 9 miles and six furlongs long earthen road. Four wooden bridges, 40
feet long and 12 feet wide each, were built along the road. The earthen
road was completed in March 1999 and the paving of laterite on the road
was completed on 250 April 2001. Yangon Division Development Committee
of the Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development
Affairs constructed the road with the regional development funds. The road
was constructed at a cost of K 14.995 million..
The newly-opened road is seven miles and two furlongs shorter than the
road linking Hlinethaya
Roundabout to Htantabin along Yangon-Nyaungdon Road which is 17 miles
long. Likewise, the newly opened road is seven miles and four furlongs
shorter than the road connecting Bayintnaung Road to Htantabin along Yangon-Nyaungdon
Road which is 17 miles and two furlongs.
As a result of the construction of the short-cut road linking Shwepyitha
Bridge and Htantabin, local
people from villages on both sides of the road will ensure to be easy
access to Yangon City and education, health, social and business
sectors of local region will develop soon. Bus lines will ply the route
with a view to ensuring smooth transportation of local people.
Gravel road opened in Sagaing
Township
YANGON, 5 May - A ceremony to open newly-build gravel road linking Hsataung
Village in Sagaing Township Sagaing Division, and Htaythitgon and
Thayetcho Villages in Wetlet Township was held at Hsatanng
Village on 29 April.
Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Chairman North-West Command
Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win, departmental officials and local residents attended
the ceremony. The commander formally opened the road, and inspected it
by car. The road, seven and six furlongs long, was built at a cost of K
16,675,696 contributed by the public and the Township Development Affairs
Committee. He then inspected Construction of 12-foot wide and 75-foot
long wooden bridge linking Hsataung, Batzin and Nyaungbinshe villages,
and fulfilled the needs.
Australian Police General
concludes visit
YANGON, 5 May- Director-General of Australia Police Force Mr Michael
Joseph Keelty and party left here for home by air this morning. They were
seen off at Yangon International Airport by Myanmar Police Force Director-General
Police Maj-Gen Soe Win and party. The Australian Police General and
party visited Shwedagon Pagoda yesterday and made donations. They then
visited Criminal Investigation Department. At 3.30 p.m., the Australian
Police General attended the opening of Australian Police Force Public
Relations Office at the Australian Embassy. Also present were Deputy Minister
for Home Affairs Brig-Gen. Thura Myint Maung, Head of Department
Col Kyaw Thein of the Office of Strategic Studies of the Ministry
of Defence, MPF Director-General Police Maj-Gen Soe Win.

(5) Research paper reading
sessions continue
YANGON, 5 May - The second-day programme of the research paper reading
session of the Myanmar Academy of Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock Breeding
and Fishery Science continued at the respective places this morning.
The paper reading session of the Academy of Agriculture was held in the
meeting hall of Myanmar Agriculture Services (Head Office) in Kanbe.
Vice-Chairman of MAAFLBFS Dr Myint Thein chaired the paper reading session.
Resource persons submitted papers. The Academy of Forestry also held
its paper reading session at the Forest Department. Managing Director
of Myanma Timber Enterprise U Win Tun and Deputy Director-General of the
Forest Department U Shwe Kyaw chaired the session in the morning
and evening respectively. Four research papers were read in the morning
and five in the evening. The second-day paper reading session of the
Academy of Livestock Breeding and Fishery Science took place at the Head
Office of the Livestock Breeding, Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise
in Insein Township. Over 150 interested persons including departmental
officials, personnel from organizations and entrepreneurs attended the
session. Two research papers on bee keeping, four on poultry farming
and two on the raising of cows were submitted. The paper reading
sessions of the Academy of Forestry and the Academy of Livestock Breeding
and Fishery Science concluded today, and that of the Academy of Agriculture
continues tomorrow. Those interested may attend the paper reading
session tomorrow.
Ordination and novitiation
ceremony held
YANGON, 5 May- The Border Area Immigration Inspection Control Headquarters
in Kyikanbyin of Maungtaw held the eighth communal ordination and
novitiation ceremony at Naymyo Hall of the
headquarters from 24 to 26 April. On 24 April, 39 monks-to-be and 11
novices-to-be were novitiated. On 25 April, monks-to-be were
ordained. Then, offertories were donated to members of the Sangha, the
newly-ordained monks and novices.
On 26 April, the ceremony to mark the ordination and novitiation was
held at Naymyo Hall. Present were Chairman of Maungtaw Township Sangha
Nayaka Sayadaw Aungbala Kyaungtaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Panyindriya
and Sayadaws, Col Yu Lwin Aung of Buthidaung Station, Commander of Border
Area Immigration Inspection Control Headquarters U Khin Zaw and staff,
departmental officials of Maungtaw District and Township, officers
of Buthidaung Station and local people totalling about 500. The congregation
took the Five Precepts from the Sayadaws. Then, members of the Sangha recited
parittas. Later, the congregation recited Buddha Sasanamiram Titthatu
three times.

(6) Commander inspected construction
work in Myitkyina
YANGON, 5 May- Kachin State Peace and Development Council Chairman Northern
Command
Commander Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, accompanied by officials, inspected progress
of the building of
Reclining Buddha Image and prayer hall of Hsutaungpyi Pagoda in Myitkyina
on 30 April. Then, he
inspected domestic science school of Kachin State Committee for Women's
Affairs donated by Japan-Myanmar Friendship Association. Donor Mihara conducted
the commander round the school. The commander later attended the
requirements, and cordially greeted the family of the donor and officials.
New stretcher elevator for
EENT
YANGON, 5 May- A new stretcher elevator was opened at eye, ear, nose
and throat hospital in Mandalay on 4 May. The opening ceremony was attended
by Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander
of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, departmental officials, donors
and guests. The 15-person elevator was installed at the hospital at a cost
of K 19,483,700Ñ 9 million by the government and K 10,483,700
by the public. After the opening ceremony the commander inspected summer
paddy harvest in Taung Pyone village in Madaya Township.

YANGON, 5 May- A total of 100 trainees of Basic and Advanced Aviation
Courses for New Generation, organized by Union Solidarity and Development

tasks at New Yangon General Hospital on Bogyoke Aung San Street this morning.

presented
YANGON, 5 May- Basic Education Middle School No 3 of Bahan Township
held the presentation ceremony for basic education primary and middle
school levels completion certificates at the school this morning.
Headmistress Daw May May Sein explained the purpose of the certificate
presentation ceremony and presented certificates to primary and middle
school level students. Similarly, Shwepyitha BEMS No 3 held the presentation
for basic education primary and middle levels completion certificates at
the school today. Present were Headmaster U Mya Thein, teachers,
officials, students and their parents. First, the students sang the
Myanma School song at opening of the ceremony. Then, the headmaster gave
a speech and presented middle school level completion certificates
to 202 students and primary school level completion certificates
to 76 students.

Get-together continues
YANGON, 5 May- The Outstanding Red Cross Youths Get-together 2001 of
Myanmar Red Cross Society continued for the second day at Myanyila Hall
of Basic Education High School No 2 in Latha Township this morning.
Adviser U Kyaw Soe of Myanmar Red Cross Society gave lecture on response
in emergency. The Red Cross Youths observed demonstration of picking
up of the wounded in the battlefield. Yangon Division USDA Secretary
U Aye Myint gave talks on USDA and Director of Health Planning Department
U Aung Kyaing on National Health Policy. The Red Cross Youths exchanged
their experiences at night.

from Korea continues
YANGON, 5 May- Under Myanmar-Korea cultural exchange programme, monks
and laity visited the Contemporary Art Exhibition from Korea at the
National Museum this morning. The exhibition will be kept open till
25 May from 9.30 am to 4.30 p.m. daily. Admission is free.
Trainees of Marine Courses for New Generation visit Thanlyin, Kyauktan
Yangon, 5 May- A total of 75 trainees of Basic and Advanced Marine
Courses for New Generation (Yangon Camp), organized by Union Solidarity
and Development Association (Central) and Office of the Commander-in-Chief
(Navy), accompanied by in-charge Lt-Cmdr Nyan Win and officials,
visited Kyaikhmaw-wun mid-stream pagoda in Kyauktan Township and
Kyaikkhauk pagoda in Thanlyin Township today. They carried out sanitation
tasks this morning. Afterwards, the trainees visited Tin Smelting Plant
in Thanlyin, and then exchanged commemorative pennants with officials
of the plant.

(9) MWEA holds sixth annual
meeting
YANGON, 5 May- Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs' Association held the sixth
annual meeting at
MWEA Tower on Shwedagon Pagoda Road this morning. Patorn of the association
Saw Mon Nyin gave a speech. Chairperson Daw Sein Sein extended greetings.
Founder of the association adviser retired Prof. Daw Yi Yi Myint
read out the list of newly-elected executive committee members and members
of the association approved the list. Secretary Daw Nu Nu Yi read
the annual report for 2000-2001 fiscal year and the financial report.
Later, the chairperson gave the concluding remarks.
TOA Paints Seminar 2001 held
YANGON, 5 May- Greenline Myanmar Group Co Ltd held a discussion on TOA
wood paint at Summit Parkview Hotel on Ahlon Road this morning. Chief
Executive Mr Manoon Piyapanyawongse of PMG Co Ltd presided over the
discussion. Managing Director Mr Tuan Srikhum explained the uses of lacquer
clear paint and colour lacquer paint for wooden furniture and polyurethane
for wooden furniture, parquet and others. Methods to deal with the
problems in using the paints and use was explained with the aid of
video slides. The queries were answered. Then, prizes of honour were presented
to the ten shops that can sell the paint best.
Yangon City bustling with
holiday-makers
YANGON, 5 May- Today is a holiday and Saturday. Members of the Sangha
and devotees were seen bustling at pagodas and holiday-makers at parks
and recreation centres in Yangon City. Devotees paid obeisance to
Shwedagon Pagoda and offered flowers, water, lights, incense and donations
to the pagoda. Tourists also visited the pagoda. Similarly, Sule
and Botahtaung pagodas were crowded with members of the Sangha and
pilgrims from here and there. Likewise, holiday-makers were bustling at
Happy World modern playground No 2 at Thiri Mingala Market and went
to cinemas.
