The Secretary-1 said he takes pride in seeing a gathering of outstanding Red Cross youths with the knowledge that a reliable youth force for the State’s future is emerging on all fronts. Moreover, seeing a gathering of active and energetic outstanding Red Cross youths indicates the emergence of a consolidated and qualitative reserve force for national peace and tranquillity as expected by the State.

The State Peace and Development Council is striving with the participation of national forces to ensure national peace and tranquillity and for the nation to get abreast with world’s nations; thus, it is making efforts for the consolidation of the MRCS born of the people and actively discharging public welfare duties.

MRCS is performing Red Cross duties in accord with the international Red Cross norms, which are, humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality, in serving the State; it also strictly adheres to the norms of Myanmar traditions and culture, such as humanitarian spirit and the will to help and serve the public interests.

As the State assigned the MRCS, which has fine traditions, the national duties in addition to its normal tasks, in enabling it to serve public welfare task as well as the national task, it has made plans to systematically reorganize and extend the Red Cross societies at different levels in the entire nation.

As the State has entrusted MRCS with the national task, the Society based on the strength of youth should systematically reform all its bodies at different levels and should train and nurture its members for qualitative and quantitative progress of all Red Cross forces.

The Red Cross members are being nurtured to strengthen their spirit to observe the rules, of humanity, to make sacrifices for national cause and to love the race and to enhance their Red Cross spirit, conviction and abilities to be ready in times of national peace and in a state of emergency.

As the Red Cross youths have been trained and nurtured both ideologically and practically, it is obvious that many a number of Red Cross youths who are outstanding and highly efficient have been emerging throughout the nation.

MRCS has selected a certain number of outstanding Red Cross youths region wise and organized Outstanding Red Cross Youths Gathering every year, which evinces how MRCS’s tasks of nurturing the youth are effective and productive.

Therefore, the outstanding Red Cross youths who are gathering here need to realize that they have been selected in consideration of their outstanding efficiency, performance and the will to discharge duties at risk to themselves and the spirit of obeying the order to the letter, and they are also to strive to maintain the status of model Red Cross youths who can enhance the prestige of MRCS.

True to be outstanding Red Cross youths, they are to strive to ensure that MRCS is making progress on the national path, to organize more Red Cross members and improve their quality and to promote the  morale and efficiency of Red Cross members; they also need to clearly know the duties and responsibilities  which they have to carry out in order that they can work for the benefits of the nation all the more.

The Secretary-1 exhorted outstanding Red Cross youths from all over the nation to strive for the further flourishing and propagation of Red Cross spirit, national solidarity spirit and Union Spirit while comparing notes with one another as to cultures and traditions of their respective regions and their experience of Red Cross tasks.

Today, in accord with the guidance of Head of State Senior General Than Shwe, rural development tasks  concerning education, health, social affairs and economic matters of rural and far-flung areas are being  carried out.
