Daw Kyaing Kyaing presented offertories to Aungmye Bonsankyaung
Sayadaw.Daw Mya Mya San and members and wellwishers presented offertories to members of
the Sangha.
In his supplication, the Secretary-3 said he was pleased to pay
respects to Aungmye Bonsankyaung Sayadaw and Secretary Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru
Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara and members of the
Sangha.
He said the State Peace and Development Council Government has been
renovating ancient historic pagodas and Buddha images and it is also building new pagodas
and Buddha images for propagation of Theravada Buddhism.
The pagoda was built in Maha Era 103 and Queen Shin Sawpu offered gold
plates in AD 1452 for the first time. Tatmadawmen and wellwishers offered gold plates from
1988 to 1993 for the second time under the guidance of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence
Services.
The Shwethingan was offered to the
pagoda which was renovated with the contribution by Tatmadawmen and wellwishers and K 20
million by Thiha Thudhamma Manijotadhara U Thein Win and Thiha Thudhamma Theingi Thiri
Thudhamma Theingi Daw Ni of Shwe Thanlwin Co from 27-10-2000 to 20-3-2001.
The Secretary-3 expressed thanks to well-wishers for their
donations.Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara then delivered a sermon. Daw Kyaing Kyaing and
party and well-wishers shared the merits gained.Daw Kyaing Kyaing and party and
wellwishers performed rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the success of the

( 2 ) General Maung Aye looks into development requirements of Tayokehla Village
Yangon, 1 April Vice-Chairman of the State Peace
and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief
(Army) General Maung Aye, left Mawlamyine, Mon State, on 31 March, for Hpa-an, Kayin
State, at 8.30 am.
The General was accompanied by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and
Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, Commander-in-Chief (Navy)
Rear-Admiral Kyi Min, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs
Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla, the ministers, senior military officers, the Deputy
Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation, Deputy Commander of South-East Command Brig-Gen
Myo Hla, heads of the State Peace and Development Council and departments concerned.
On arrival at Hpa-an, they were welcomed by Commander of No 22 LID
Brig-Gen Thura Myint Aung, Chairman of Kayin State Peace and Development Council Col Saw
Khin Soe and departmental officials of Kayin State.
The General gave instructions on tasks for development of Tayokehla
Village in Hpa-an to officials in Zwegabin Yeiktha Hall of the Command.
Then, the General and party went to Tayokehla Village by car, and
attended the multimedia classroom opening ceremony at the basic education middle school.
Director-General of No 1 Basic Education Department U Tin Nyo, Chairman
of the School Board of Trustees U Win Aung and Headmistress Daw Nang Hla Yin May formally
opened the multimedia classroom.
The General and party inspected the language lab, the computer
application room, the printed media room, the electronic media room, the computer-aided
instruction room.
At the ceremony to mark the opening of the multimedia classroom of the
school, the General said that while Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Tin Oo and officials were flying from Mawlamyine to Hpa-an, their helicopter
crashed near Tayokehla Village due to bad weather.
The people of Tayokehla Village made tremendous efforts with patriotism
in taking necessary life-saving measures immediately after the helicopter crash.
The General said that on behalf of the State Peace and Development
Council, the Government, he would like to express thanks to the people of Tayokehla
Village for their efforts made at risk to themselves out of pure goodwill.
It can be said that the people of Tayokehla Village demonstrated the
fine tradition of Myanmar that Myanmar people help each other in times of emergency.
The General said that in accord with the guidance of Senior General
Than Shwe, they came there to fulfil requirements of the village with the aim of repaying
the gratitude of the headmistress of BEMS and the staff, students, the people of Tayokehla
Village and government employees for their selfless efforts.
The government will attend to the needs of the village related to
education, health and transport, and will take measures to develop the village like a
town. Special duties have been assigned to those concerned for development tasks Tayokehla
Village.The State-level committee will take necessary measures in so short a time, and the
village, on its part, need to provide necessary assistance.
The purpose of this task is to acquaint
the people of the nation with the excellent example set by Tayoakhla Village and to
cultivate the habit of rallying round with patriotism in the affairs of the State.
Minister for Education U Than Aung handed over teaching aids for BEMS
of Tayoakhla Village to Headmistress Daw Nang Hla Yin May, who also spoke words of thanks.
After the ceremony, the General had a cordial meeting with Chairman of
Tayoakhla Village Peace and Development Council U Maung Dwe and town elders, members of
the School Board of Trustees and teachers.
Then, the General signed in the visitors book.Afterwards, the
General and party inspected Tayoakhla Village.The General and party went to Weinayikayon
Kyaungtaik at the village, and paid homage and offered alms to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Abhicara
and members of the Sangha.
At 11.30 am, the General and party went to the 4,000-ton cement plant
project in Myainggalay, Hpa-an Township.In the briefing hall, Lt-Gen Tin Hla reported on
facts about the project.Project Director Lt-Col Saw Myint and officials reported on
progress of work in building the cement plant.
The General gave necessary instructions and inspected the project.The
4,000-ton cement plant will produce cement with the dry process and modern machinery.
Technicians and employees are implementing the project with might and main.
The project started in February 1999. The plant will undergo a test-run
in about December and will produce cement on a commercial scale.Measures are also being
taken to ensure the proper flow of water in the compound of the plant and to prevent the
overflowing of Thanlwin River.
The project is being implemented with the policy of the State related
to establishment of import substitute factories and plants and use of domestic resources.
The project is aimed at developing the industrial sector and ensuring the flow of high
technology.
After inspecting the project, the General and party went to Donthami
Bridge Project in Thaton, Mon State, by helicopter.
They were welcomed there by Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan
Aung, Commander of No 44 LID Brig-Gen Nay Win and officials.In the briefing hall, Minister
U Pan Aung reported on facts about the project.
Lt-Gen Tin Hla and Maj-Gen Saw Tun reported on fulfilment of
requirements of machinery and construction materials.
The General gave instructions and inspected the project.As new
factories and plant have emerged in Mon State and Kayin State, railroads are needed to
link the two states. Therefore, Donthami Railroad Bridge Project is being implemented.The
main structure of Donthami Bridge is 600 feet long. The approach motor road is 1,715 feet
long and the approach railroad 2,800 feet long.
The bridge is 21 feet wide, and not only trains but also cars can pass
along the bridge. Myanma Railways is also repairing Thaton-Myainggalay Railroad, which was
opened in 1988, in conjunction with construction work of Donthami Bridge.
At 3.30 pm, the General and party arrived at Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda in
Kyaikto Township.They were welcomed by officiating Tactical Operations Commander Lt-Col
Hla Moe, Commander of local battalion Lt-Col Win Shein and departmental officials, members
of the pagoda board of trustees, Union Solidarity and Development Association and Maternal
and Child Welfare Association.
The General and party paid homage to old Seinbudaw and Hngetmyatnadaw
of Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda, which are kept for public obeisance in the prayer hall on the
platform of the pagoda.
The General and party then paid homage to Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda, and
Seinbudaw and Hngetmyatnadaw installed atop the pagoda.
The General and party also offered Shwethingan to Kyaikhtiyoe
Pagoda.The General paid homage and offered alms to Mingala Kandawkyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta
Devinda of Kawhtin Village, Kyaikto Township, and Ovadacariya Sayadaws of Kyaikhtiyoe
Pagoda.The General then made donations to the fund of the pagoda.The General and party
left there by helicopter and arrived back here at 5.30 pm.

Yangon, 1 AprilA coordination meeting on promotion
of development of Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township was held at Kanaung Hall in Dagon Myothit
Seikkan Township this morning, with an address by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Also present were member of the State Peace and Development Council
Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command
Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, ministers, the Yangon Mayor, deputy ministers, members of the
implementation committee on urban infrastructures for Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township
Development Pro-ject, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads
of department and guests.
The Secretary-1 said systematic plans for development of Dagon Myothit
Seikkan Township are being implemented with added momentum after formation of work
committees at different levels. The meeting was to discuss measures to be undertaken
before monsoon, he said.
He spoke of the need to make preparations for construction of buildings
of the State after their layout plans have been approved. It is necessary to continue to
implement Yuzana Garden City Project.
He said Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township Development Projects are being
implemented in accord with the guidance of Head of State Senior General Than Shwe and
tasks are to be completed in time.
The Secretary-1 urged various work committees to carry out coordination
work.
Next, Head of Urban Plan and Land Management Department of Yangon City
Development Committee U Tun Than Tun reported on infrastructure programmes such as earth
work, construction work, power supply, proper drainage and construction of floodgates.
Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and
Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin and Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn
Myint gave supplementary reports.
Deputy Director (Architect) of Public Works U Win Zaw reported on
layout plans and architectural designs.
Deputy Director-General of the Department for Human Settlement and
Housing Development Col Tin Tun reported on construction of housing estates by Dagon
Myothit Seikkan Township Development Co Ltd. Chairman of Yuzana Construction Co Ltd U Htay
Myint on work undertaken for Yuzana Garden City Project.
Those present reported on construction of roads, proper drainage, power
supply, installation of telephone line, digging of drains, greening of its environs and
land preparations. The Secretary-1 then gave instructions.
The Secretary-1 and party inspected the site for construction of
Yangon-Thanlyin Bridge No 2 linking Dagon Myothit Seikkan and Thanlyin Townships. They
were conducted round by Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe and Superintending
Engineer U Myint Lwin.
Out of the 12 piles of the approach bridge on the side of Dagon Myothit Seikkan
Township, eight piles have been completed. On the side of Thanlyin Township, six piles out
of 15 have been completed. The Secretary-1 and party inspected the sites where the
buildings of the State can be built.

Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected progress of construction work of
Drug Elimination Museum at the corner of Hanthawady Road and Kyundaw Road in Kamayut
Township this afternoon.
The Secretary-1, accompanied by officials of the State Peace and
Development Council Office, arrived at the briefing hall of the museum.
The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed there by Chairman of Central
Committee for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Deputy Minister
for Construction U Tint Swe, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe
Win, members of CCDAC and senior police officers.
At the briefing hall, Minister Col Tin Hlaing reported on display of
the booths and completion of the museum to the Secretary-1.Police Maj-Gen Soe Win reported
on construction of the booths to be opened. Director Daw Nu Mra Zan of the Department of
Cultural Institute reported on matters related to the booths to be opened.

accepts donations for social welfare tasks of Asia Wealth Bank
Yangon, 1 April- A ceremony to donate cash towards the funds of social welfare tasks by
Asia Wealth Bank was held at AWB Bank on Strand Road in Ahlon Township this afternoon,
attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Also
present were ministers, deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development
Council Office, departmental heads, the Vice-Chairman of AWB and members of Board of
Directors, entrepreneurs, merchants, bank staff and guests. Vice-Chairman of AWB U Aik Tun
explained the purpose of the donations. He said AWB Bank has been established for over
five years.
During the period of over five years, the bank has donated hundreds of thousand of
kyats to education, health and social tasks. The bank achieves success in work as a result
of encouragement given by the State and the people. He promised to make donations to
education, health and social tasks in future. Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt accepted
K 10 million for social tasks donated by Vice-Chairman of AWB U Aik Tun. Afterwards,
Managing Director U Aung Zaw Naing of AWB reported on banking and monetary services of the
bank. Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary-1 said the ceremony is held for AWB Bank
which donates K 10 million for social welfare tasks of the State.
The State gives encouragement to the private sector with emphasis on development. In
this regard, banking service is one of the national private entrepreneurs' sector to be
developed for strengthening national economic life. AWB emerged as a successful banking
service and can provide monetary assistance to private commercial, housing construction,
agriculture and livestock breeding tasks. At present, national private entrepreneurs join
hands with the State in construction of housing estates, mining, agriculture and livestock
breeding tasks and achieve successes in the work.
Arrangements are under way to let national private entrepreneurs to undertake
construction and upgrading of roads and bridges. Encouragement is given by the State with
the aims of nurturing private entrepreneurs and enabling them to successfully participate
in international economic, monetary and trading tasks. The AWB has donated a large sum of
money to education, health and social welfare tasks. The State would record the today's
donations of the AWB and the donations will be spent in religious, culture and other
social affairs systematically. After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party inspected
service of the bank.

Tatmadawmen in forward areas
Yangon, 1 April Well-wishers donate local-made
foodstuff and gifts to Tatma-dawmen who, upholding Our Three Main National Causes,
discharging national defence duty in forward areas.
Under the supervision of Deputy Chief of the Office of Strategic
Studies and Deputy Director of Defence Services Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, the convoy carrying
local-made foodstuff and gifts left here on 25 March and arrived at Kengtung on 31 March
evening.
Head of Department Col Than Tun of OSS, currently in Kengtung, accepted
the foodstuff and gifts and handed over them to Deputy Commander of Triangle Region
Command Brig-Gen Myint Swe.
Senior officers of Triangle Region Command and the forward Light
Infantry Division handed the foodstuff and gifts to commanding officers of respective
military posts and camps again. Then, the foodstuff and gifts were distributed to
Tatmadawmen.
Col Than Tun elaborated on the goodwill extended by the people towards
officers and other ranks discharing duties in forward areas and national awareness of the

Yangon, 1 April - Mindhamma Hill, where Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image is kept,
was crowded with devotees in Insein Township today. Stone sculptor Siri Sudhamma
Manijotadhara U Taw Taw and sons were carving the Image, and employees of Public Works of
the Ministry of Construction continued Gandakuti Kyaungdawgyi and northern and southern
stairways. Myanmar handicraft technician U Ohn Tin and U Hla Kyu and group were also
decorating the northern and southern stairways. Wut associations recited religious verses
from morning to evening. The Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Information
opened book shops, Myanmar Artistes and Artisan Association, a souvenir shop. The
donations for the funds of Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image received from 5 August
2000 to date amounted to K 164,221,764.

) Minister inspects construction of new Magway Airport
Yangon, 1 April-Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by
Director-General U Win Maung of Department for Civil Aviation and officials, arrived at
the construction project of new Magway Airport yesterday morning.
At the briefing hall, Director-General U Win Maung reported to the minister on
surveying, soil test and proposed plans for construction of the runway, the apron and the
entrance road. Then, Managing Director U Tun Myint Naing of Asia World Co Ltd reported on
availability of heavy machinery, construction of buildings, the need of materials and work
schedule. Afterwards, Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen
Thein Zaw reported on water supply, resettlement of land and availability of quality sand
and rock.
The minister gave instructions on removal of sand over burden, using quality sand and
rock, finishing the runway and entrance road as scheduled and implementing the project in
a speedy manner making use of machine and man power to the best. Then, he fulfilled the
needs. Later, minister and party proceeded to the old airport. He left instructions on
keeping the airport clean, supplying needed furniture and greening work. He inspected the
runway and left there.
Cultural troupe members of border areas arrive
Yangon, 1 April-At the invitation of Chairman of Work Committee for Development of
Border Areas and National Races Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, 142 cultural troupe members from the regions of Kachin, Kokang, Wa,
Kengtung (East), Kayah, Kayin, Rakhine, Chin and Naga yesterday arrived here to
participate in Maha Thingyan Festival. They were welcomed and accommodated by officials of
the Progress of Border Areas and National Races Department. This morning, the cultural
troupe members, accompanied by Deputy Director Maj Nyan Lin Myint of Progress of Border
Areas and National Races Department, went to Shwedagon Pagoda and made donations for the
pagoda. Afterwards, they visited the Buddhology Museum and Yangon Zoological Gardens.

) Weinkaung region USDA members tour Yangon
Yangon, 1 April-Altogether 45 members of Union Solidarity and Development Association
from Wa special region (Weinkaung region) of Eastern Thanlwin area in Tangyan Township,
Shan State (North) accompanied by officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, toured Yangon
today. First, the group paid homage to Shwedagon Pagoda and Maha Wizaya Pagoda in the
morning. Later, the delegation visited Yezani Agriculture and Livestock Breeding Farm on
Mindhamma Road and Hlawga Wildlife Park in the afternoon.
Seized monosodium glutamate destroyed
Yangon, 1 April-The Tatmadawmen from the local battalion while discharging duties found
ownerless 8,300 one-pound packets of ladle brand monosodium glutamate in an old hut near
Tawkhalu Creek in Kungyangon Township on 14 March. The authorities destroyed the packets
on 20 March.
