Yangon, 3 March- Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development
Council of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr
Peter Stoyanov, President of the Republic of Bulgaria, on the occasion of the Anniversary
of the National Day of the Republic of Bulgaria which falls on 3 March 2001.

( 2 ) Waziya-2 Cinema in
Hlinethaya opens with "Thami-shin" movie
Yangon, 2 March- Waziya-2 Cinema at the corner of Yangon-Nyaungdon Road and Bo Aung
Kyaw Street in Hlinethaya here opened with the movie "Thami-shin" this morning.
Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon leased the cinema from Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise
under a long-term agreement to raise funds for it. Secretary-1 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt unveiled the plaque. Minister for Information
Maj-Gen Kyi Aung and MMPA Chairman U Sein Tin formally opened the theatre.
Also present were ministers, deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and
Development Council Office, heads of department of the Ministry of Information, members of
Hlinethaya Industrial Town Management Committee, members of Hlinethaya Township Union
Solidarity and Development Association, guests, executives of MMPA and film artistes.
After looking around the cinema, the Secretary-1, the ministers, the officials and the
guests viewed some scenes of the movie. Running four shows daily, the cinema charges K 50,
K 75, K 100 and K 150 per seat for respective stalls.
In Hlinethaya City of Industry, the
Secretary-1 and party inspected the production process of Sein Sandar Garment Factory.
Chairman of Sein Sandar International Co Ltd U Sein Oo explained salient points of the
factory. The factory has the capacity to produce 25,000 shirts up to 50,000 per month for
export. Fifty percent of installation of machinery has been completed. At present, the
factory is being run with 165 workers.
At the briefing hall, U Sein Oo reported to the Secretary-1 and party on the history of
the factory, progress of work in installing machinery, the strength of the staff, work
extension programmes, production and distribution and requirements. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen
Khin Nyunt gave suggestions. At Super One Coffee Mix Factory of A&S International
(Myanmar) Co Ltd, the Secretary-1 and party heard a report on production and packaging
process, storage of raw material and other production work of the company such as purified
peanut oil, soft drinks and snacks presented by Managing Director Daw San Yi. The factory,
which is being run with the use of machines imported from Japan, is producing over 300,000
sachets of coffee mix daily. The company is also planning to produce sachets of super one
cereal and tea mix.
Secretary-1 inspects packaging of foodstuff for Tatmadawmen
Yangon, 2 March - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of
Office of Strategic Studies and Director of Defence Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt inspected the packaging of foodstuff donated to the Tatmadawmen discharging duties
at far-flung forward areas and border areas by wellwishers through OSS of the Ministry of
Defence, at Tatmadaw Guest House on Inya Road this evening. The Secretary-1, accompanied
by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at Tatmadaw Guest
House at 3.30 pm.
They were welcomed by Deputy Chief of OSS
and Deputy Director of Defence Services Intelligence Maj-Gen Kyaw Win and senior military
officers. Then, the Secretary-1 inspected the packaging of foodstuff. The Secretary-1 gave
instructions, and left there in the evening. Arrangements have been made to send the
foodstuff by helicopter on 3 March to the Tatmadawmen discharging duties at far-flung
forward areas. The foodstuff donated by the wellwishers included packaged instant noodles
worth K 1 million, Oishi snacks worth K 500,000, Ve Ve soft drinks worth K 580,000,
Khabaung and Duya cigarettes worth K 1.6 million, packages of sweets worth K 100,000,
K100,000-worth packaged instant noodles manufactured by Industry-1, Mikko instant coffee
mix, tea mix and cereal worth K 600,000, packages of roasted lablab beans worth K 160,000,
Ayee Taung pickled tea worth K 200,000, variouskinds of traditional medicines worth K
100,000, Mandalay Rum worth K 100,000 and chicken tins worth K 120,000.

( 3 ) Commander visits
vegetable production and poultry farming special zone of Yangon Division
Yangon, 2 March - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon
Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than
inspected cultivation of vegetables, livestock breeding work, the building of roads and
installation of power lines at the vegetable production and poultry farming special zone
of Yangon Division at Nyaung-hnapin Village, Hmawby Township, Yangon North District, this
morning. The commander inspected Taingmyankyaw Poultry Farm, and gave instructions on
keeping poultry free from disease, production of eggs and cultivation of vegetables around
the farm. At Taingmyankyaw Poultry Farm, 10,000 fowls are being raised, and over 9,000
eggs are produced daily. The commander inspected vegetable and baby corn patches, and
proceeded to Hmawby Hsan Hall of the special zone-1.
Division Agriculture Manager U San Maung reported on agricultural and livestock
breeding matters, Director of Yangon Irrigation Department U Kyaw Thein on the building of
drains and roads in special zones, Yangon Division Executive Engineer of Myanma Electric
Power Enterprise Captain Aung Kyaw Oo on completion of installation of power lines,
Commissioner of Yangon Division General Administration Department U Thein Swe on the
laying of laterite on earth roads, Chairman of Myanmar Livestock Breeding Federation Dr
Zaw Win Myat on matters related to livestock breeding work, officials of Yangon Division
Development Affairs Committee on completion of road construction and the laying of
laterite in the special zone-3, Head of Yangon Division Land Records Department U Naing
Win on the digging of fish ponds in the special zones and entrepreneurs on agricultural
and livestock breeding work.
The commander said that the building of earth roads in the special zone is to be
completed by 15 March and the laying of laterite is to be finished by April. Members of
the special zone supervisory committee are to supervise tasks in order that they can be
completed as scheduled. Tasks are to be carried out systematically, not perfunctorily.
Arrangements are also to be made to send the produce of the special zone to tax-free
markets and other markets in Yangon. Then, the commander inspected the completion of
construction of earth roads and the laying of laterite on them. In the special zone,
drains, 107 miles long, have been built; earth roads, 62 miles long, and laterite roads,
30 miles long, have been constructed; 11KV power lines, 17 miles long, and 440 volt power
line, 36 miles long, have been installed; agricultural work has been done on 1,706 acres
of land.

Foreign Correspondents Club meets
Yangon, 2 March-Myanmar Foreign Correspondents Club held its annual meeting at
Kandawgyi Palace Hotel yesterday evening. Present at the meeting were Patron of the Club U
Sein Win, President U Sao Kai Hpa, Secretary U Nyunt Tin and members. President U Sao Kai
Hpa made a speech on the occasion. The annual report and financial statement were
presented by Secretary U Nyunt Tin and then approved. Afterwards, new executive committee
which included Patron U Sein Win, President U Sao Kai Hpa and Secretary U Nyunt Tin, was
elected.
Myanma Tatmadaw Medical Conference continues
Yangon, 2 March- The 11th Myanma Tatmadaw Medical Conference continued for the second
day at the hall of Defence Services Institute of Medicine in Mingaladon this morning.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of Defence Services Medical Research and Development
Committee Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Rector of the institute
Brig-Gen Hla Myint, rectors, professors, commandants, specialists, medical officers,
nursing officers, officials and resource persons. Resource persons presented 18 medical,
obstetric, gynaecological, paediatric and pathological papers and they then discussed
hepatitis B.

( 5 ) Minister inspects ELT methodology Refresher Courses at
e-Education Learning Centres
Yangon, 2 March-Minister for Education U Than Aung, accompanied by Deputy Minister U
Myo Nyunt, arrived at e-Education Learning Centre of University of Foreign Languages this
morning. The minister was welcomed there by Director-General U Saw Lwin of Higher
Education Department (Lower Myanmar), Director-General U Bo Win of Education Planning and
Training Department, Rector Dr Soe Win of University of Foreign Languages, Rector U Han
Tin of Institute of Education (Yangon) and officials. The minister inspected ELT
methodology Refresher Courses at the centre.
The minister and party proceeded to e-Education Learning Centre at No 2 Basic Education
High School in Sangyoung. They were welcomed there by Director-General U Tin Win of No 3
(See page 2) Basic Education Department, the head mistress Daw Khin May Gyi and officials.
The minister inspected teaching English at the centre. Afterwards, the minister inspected
direct broadcasting of teaching programmes to the centres at the main studio of University
of Distance Education at Myanmar Education Research Bureau.
The centres that were giving refresher course of English teaching for teachers were 7
in Kachin State, 1 in Kayah State, 2 in Kayin State, 2 in Chin State, 18 in Sagaing
Division, 6 in Taninthayi Division, 10 in Bago Division(East), 12 in Bago Division (West),
15 in Magwe Division, 25 in Mandalay Division, 5 in Mon State, 6 in Rakhine State, 6 in
Shan State (South), 2 in Shan State (East), 5 in Shan State (North) and 19 in Ayeyawady
Division. There were altogether 183 centres all across the country. Senior High School
Teachers and Junior High School Teachers of townships attended the course at the centres.
In using Electronic Data Broadcasting System, trainees got a chance straight away to ask
the instructor questions on what they didn't understand well. SAT Daw Myint Myint of No 2
BEHS Sangyaung, SAT Daw Khin Khin Htay of No 2 BEHS Latha, SAT Daw Aye Aye Win of No 1
BEHS Dagon and Daw Mya Mya Soe of No 2 BEHS Sangyaung raised questions on the phone after
the programme. Rector U Han Tin of Myanmar Education Research Bureau responded the queries
from the main studio of UDE at MERB.

( 6 ) Over K 41m donated for
renovation of Kaunghmulon Pagoda in Phakant
Yangon, 2 March- A ceremony to donate cash towards the funds for all-round renovation
of Kaunghmulon Pagoda in Machanbaw Township was held at the hall in Phakant on 23 February
morning. Present were Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of
Northern Command Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, Tactical Operations Commander Col Tin Shein, Kachin
State Commissioner of General Administration Department U Aung Khin and officials. The
commander gave a speech. Then, officials accepted K 41.9 million donated by jade and
jewellery companies. Afterwards, Commissioner U Aung Khin spoke words of thanks. Next, the
commander attended the ceremony to put back into service repaved Bogyoke Road in hailing
the 56th Anniversary Armed Forces Day. Similarly, the commander attended the opening
ceremony of Seikmu-Phapyin Road in Seikmu Village in Phakant Township.
Mayor inspects project tasks of City Farm and Recreation Center
in Taikkyi
Yangon, 2 March- Chairman of Yangon
City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, accompanied by officials, inspected City Farm
and Recreation Centre Project in Taikkyi Township this morning. The Mayor inspected
construction of golf course at the recreation centre and cordially conversed with golfers.
Then, the Mayor inspected Insuin Dam and the head regulator and fulfilled the
requirements. At Kya-in farming region, the Mayor inspected soil preparation of 300 acres
of summer paddy out of 500 acres in Taungyat Zigon farm of Kya-in farming region. The
Mayor met local farmers and gave instructions on extended agricultural matters in the
project area.

( 7 ) Minister inspects Insein General Hospital
Yangon, 2 March - Minister for Health
Maj-Gen Ket Sein visited Insein General Hospital this morning. The minister inspected the
medical ward, the operation theatre, the X-ray unit, the diagnosis unit and the branch of
the blood bank. The minister gave instructions on the effective use of medical equipment,
keeping the hospital clean and pleasant and systematic use of surgery instruments. Then,
the minister and party went to Aung San Pyidaungsu Tuberculosis Department. Deputy
Minister for Health Professor Dr Kyaw Myint, Director-General of Medical Science
Department Professor Dr Maung Maung Wint and Medical Superintendent Dr Win Maung reported
on renovation work. The minister toured the department and gave instructions on opening
the department as soon as possible.

) Commander inspects construction, cultivation tasks in
Kyaukpadaung, Meiktila
Yangon, 2 March- Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander
of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, accompanied by Brig-Gen Than Tun of Kyaukpadaung
Station and officials, inspected construction of Sasana Baikmandaw in Kyaukpadaung
Township on 27 February evening. The Beikmandaw, 90 feet long and 60 feet wide, is a two
storey-building. Construction of the building has been 80 per cent complete. On 28
February, the commander, accompanied by Brig-Gen Htay Oo and departmental officials,
inspected construction for multimedia classrooms of Meiktila Basic Education High School
No 3. The commander and party inspected sunflower and long-staple cotton plantations in
Kantha Village of Meiktila Township. A total of 4,713 acres of land have been put under
sunflower and 1,010 acres under long-staple cotton in Meiktila Township in 2000-2001
cultivation season.
Commander inspects development tasks in Taninthayi Division
Yangon, 2 March- Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council
Commander of Coastal Region Command Brig-Gen Aye Kyway, accompanied by departmental
officials, inspected construction sites of Pathaung Bridge and Taninthayi-Bokpyin Road on
22 February. The commander attended to the needs of construction sites. In the evening,
the commander inspected construction of Yazamuni Pagoda and Shwethahlyaung reclining
Buddha image in Bokpyin. On 23 February, the commander attended opening ceremony of new
repaved Tabinshwehti Road in Bokpyin. The commander then inspected palm oil plantations of
private entrepreneurs. The commander inspected construction of 21-mile long
Santhida-Nantun Road. At Kawthoung, the commander met township level officials, local
entrepreneurs and gave instructions on regional development, transportation, agricultural
and livestock breeding to be carried out with added momentum.

) USDA Secretariat member meets course instructors and trainees of Advanced
Accountancy Course
Yangon, 2 March-Member of Secretariat of Union Solidarity and Development Association
U Khin Maung Thein and USDA Central Executive Committee members met with course
instructors and trainees of Advanced Accountancy Course No 1 being conducted at the
training school of USDA, at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Finance and Revenue
yesterday evening. Present at the meeting were USDA Secretariat Minister for Finance and
Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, CEC members U Than Shwe, U Aung Phone and U Aung San,
Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye, departmental heads, the rectors and principals of
universities and colleges, officials, course instructors and trainees. Speaking on the
occasion, U Khin Maung Thein explained objectives and goals of the Association, matters
related to courses being conducted by the Association to make the members qualified ones
and purpose of opening advanced accountancy courses. Then, he presented cash for the
course. A dinner was hostel to those present.
