(1) State providing assistance for growing of oil palm and fishery industries in Taninthayi Division including Kawthoung region

YANGON, 25 Dec- Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected  regional development undertakings and met departmental personnel in Kawthoung today.

Accompanied by ministers, the Chief of Staff (Navy), deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and  Development Council Office and heads of department, the Secretary-1 left here for Kawthoung by air this morning.

Together with Commander Brig-Gen Aye Kyway, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the multi-media teaching centre at No 1 Basic Education High School in the township. At the school, they were welcomed by division and district education officers, headmaster U Pe Maung, teachers and students.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected the electronic media room (language lab), the computer-aided instruction (CAI) room, the computer room (application), the electronic media room (video system), the domestic science room, the arts room, the science lab and music and arts room at the centre.

The Secretary-1 also gave instructions. While inspecting Myo-ma Port in town, the Secretary-1 called for measures to make the port clean and beautiful. At Bayintnaung View Point, he stressed the need to take measures for the greening of surrounding areas. On arrival at the 150-bed hospital project, the Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by the deputy minister, officials, doctors and nurses. After inspecting progress of work in building the hospital, the Secretary-1 gave instructions on work to officials. At the meeting hall of Kawthoung Station, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt met division, district and township level departmental personnel and discussed regional development undertakings.

Commander Brig-Gen Aye Kyway, Commander of the Naval Region Command Commodore Soe Myint, ministers, the Chief of Staff (Navy), deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and heads of department were also present. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said he was there to study the actual developing conditions of Kawthoung region and to fulfil the requirements. Not only is Kawthoung located at the southernmost
part of the nation, but it also has firm economic foundations; thus it can contribute greatly to the economic development of the nation.

The State is rendering assistance for the growing of oil palms, which is becoming popular in the world, with greater momentum in Taninthayi Division including Kawthoung region where there are already businesses related to rubber , agricultural and marine products. The State is also giving encouragement for the thriving of fishery industries. Service personnel discharging duties in Taninthayi Division should make efforts for further progress of the farming and fisheries enterprises, which are flourishing in the division including Kawthoung region, and enabling the nation to fully enjoy the results of the enterprise.

As it is located at the border, all the departmental personnel serving duties in the region should strive for the flourishing of border trade, collecting the taxes to the full and ensuring a proper system in exporting marine products. As heads of township, district and divisional departments are giving close supervision to their
subordinates and serving regional management duties, on behalf of the government, it is required for all service personnel at different levels to work dutifully for the people with uprightness, loyalty and fairness.

They should strive in harmony and unison with the conviction to work from the respective sectors for the nation's interest and for successful realization of the State's goals. The commander, ministers and deputy ministers reported to the meeting on accomplishments in implementing the Kawthoung regional development task sector wise. The
Secretary-1 looked into the requirements. The Secretary-1 and party arrived back here by air in the evening.


(2) Secretary-1 inspects carving of Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image

YANGON, 25 Dec - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected the carving of Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image on Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township this evening. On arrival at Mindhamma Hill, the Secretary-1 was welcomed by Adviser at the State Peace and Development Council Office U Arnt Maung, Joint Secretary of the Committee for All-round Construction of Mindhamma Hill Cmdr
Khin Maung Oo, technicians and officials. The Secretary-1 paid homage to the Image.

Then, he inspected the carving of the Image and gave instructions on the work. Next, the Secretary-1 inspected all-round construction work of Mindhamma Hill.

The Secretary-1 also inspected the model of the ceiling to be installed at Gandakuti Kyaungdawgyi and observed the sculpturing of Buddha images. The Secretary-1 paid homage to Sayadaws and members of the Sangha who visited Mindhamma Hill, and cordially met with pilgrims.


(3) Trust fund set up for poor and needy patients of Thingangyun Sanpya Hospital

YANGON, 25 Dec - A ceremony to set up a trust fund for poor and needy patients of Thingangyun Sanpya Hospital was held in the meeting hall of the hospital this morning. Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo extended greetings.

Also present were Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Deputy Minister Professor Dr Mya Oo, senior military officers, the officer on special duty at the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, acting Medical Superintendent of Sanpya Hospital Professor U Oo Kyaw and specialists, medical staff, wellwishers and guests.

The Secretary-2 extended greetings, and gave instructions on cleanliness of the hospital and providing health care services right down to the grassroots level. Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein, the deputy minister and officials accepted K 2.5 million donated to the trust fund for the poor and needy patients of the hospital.

The donations included K 500,000 by will-wishers. Dr Maung Lay of Nilaynaing Company Ltd, U Tin Win of KN Company and U Than Naing of Thamada Thingantaik explained the purpose of the donation. Afterwards, the minister thanked the wellwishers. After the ceremony, the Secretary-2 inspected the medical units of the hospital.
The Secretary-2 gave instructions and left there at 12.30 p.m.

Tatmadawmen of Army, Navy, Air and wellwishers present rice provisions and donations to nunneries

YANGON, 25 Dec- Members of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and wellwishers presented rice and cash donations to four nunneries in Thingangyun, Yangon East District, this morning at Kyaikkasan Nunnery. Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the ceremony to present the donations to Kyaikkasan Nunnery, Sasana Gonyi Nunnery, Gyobingauk Nunnery and Leti Vipassana Nunnery.

Also present on the occasion were Sayadaws led by Presiding Sayadaw of Dhammatheingi Monastery of Thingangyun Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vimala, senior military officers, Officer on Special Duty at the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, nuns, wellwishers and guests. Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vimala administered the Eighth Precepts. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, senior military officers and heads of department presented offertories to Sayadaws.

Deputy-Adjutant-General Col Ye Tun, Naval General Staff Officer (Grade-1) Cmdr Than Htaik, Officiating General Staff Officer (Air) Lt-Col Ye Chit Pe, on behalf of the Tatmadawmen, presented rice provisions to nuns of the respective nunneries.

Gen Than Maung explained the purpose of making the donations. Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vimala delivered a sermon. The congregation shared the merits gained.


(4) Minister for Rail Transportation inspects Taunggyi-Banyin-Saikkhaung-Mogni-Namhsan railroad
 

YANGON, 25 Dec-Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Managing Director of Myanma Railways and  officials met service personnel of Road Administration Department, Road Transport, Transport Planning Department and Myanma Railways at Taunggyi RAD Office on 22 December. The minister gave instructions on
striving for success of the objectives of the ministry and observing rules and regulations and laws. On 23 December, the minister inspected Taunggyi-Banyin-Saikkhaung-Mogni-Namhsan railroad.

Officials reported on works and the minister then fulfilled the requirements. The minister also met engineers and officials of MR at the guest house of MR and gave instructions on completion of work according to schedule.

Minister inspects bridge construction projects in Rakhine State

YANGON, 25 Dec- Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials, inspected Gwa-Thandwe road section on 21 December. On 22 December, the minister and party arrived at Pyay Creek Bridge construction project on Thandwe-Taungup road. Deputy Superintending Engineer U Soe Myint of Bridge Construction Special Group-13 reported on the project being implemented. The minister inspected the construction site.

On arrival at Tanhlwe Bridge construction project on Taungup-Maei-Kyaukpyu Road, the minister heard reports
on construction of the bridge by Deputy Superintending Engineer U Soe Myint. At Tamu Bridge construction project, the minister heard reports on the bridge construction and gave necessary instructions. At Maei Bridge construction project, Rakhine State Superintending Engineer U Thein Kyaw reported on progress of construction
work and future tasks.

Tanhlwe Creek Bridge on Taungup-Maei Road is 600 feet long and it has 24 feet wide motorway and three feet wide walkways on either sides of the bridge. The bridge is of reinforced concrete and can withstand 60-ton loads. Maei Creek Bridge on Taungup-Maei-Kyaukpyu Road is 940 feet long and it has 24 feet wide motorway and three  feet wide walkways on either sides of the bridge. The bridge is also of reinforced concrete and can withstand 60-ton loads.


(5) Deputy Minister inspects cotton cultivation zones in Magway, Sagaing, Mandalay Divisions

YANGON, 25 Dec- Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung, Managing Director Dr Thein Htay of Myanma Cotton and Sericulture Enterprise and officials, met the chairman of Magway District Peace and Development Council and members of Agricultural Coordination Committee at Shwetanttit river water
pumping project office in Pakokku Township on 21 December morning.

In Yezagyo, the deputy minister met cotton growers and gave instructions on establishment of cotton special zone, boosting of per-acre-yield and supply of quality strains, fertilizers and pesticide. The deputy minister then inspected the agricultural and forest training school. In the afternoon, the deputy minister and party inspected long
staple cotton plantation irrigated by Nwekhway Dam in ChaungU Township.

He also inspected Nyaung-bingyi river water pumping project. On 22 December, the deputy minister heard reports on implementation of Yebudalin river water pumping project in Budalin Township. On 23 December, the deputy minister inspected cotton plantations in Meiktila and Pyawbwe townships. Yesterday, the deputy minister met local
farmers at Kokkosu cotton special zone in Myittha Township and gave instructions. Afterwards, he also inspected implementation of Kinywa Zawgyi river water pumping project and the cotton special zone. In the afternoon, they inspected tasks of Lunkyaw Cotton Cultivation Central Farm in Myittha.


(6) Auditor-General meets with staff in Ayeyawady Division

YANGON, 25 Dec-Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye, together with Director-General of Auditor-General's Office U Kim Bawi and responsible officials, arrived at Dedaye on 22 December morning and met with the heads of departments and staff from the Township Accounts Office and inspected the office. In the afternoon, the
Auditor-General and party headed for Pyapon Township Peace and Development Council Office and met with the departmental heads and staff and inspected the Pyapon Township Accounts Office.

The Auditor-General and party met with the departmental heads in Mawlamyinekyun and Bogale Townships and inspected the Township Accounts Offices on 23 December. He also met with the departmental heads in Kyaiklat Township and inspected the Township Accounts Office yesterday morning and arrived back Yangon in the
evening. The Auditor-General gave instructions on completion of the assigned tasks in time, discharging the staff welfare tasks and striving for the progress of the region to the officials and fulfilled their needs.

Traditional Medical Exhibition continues

YANGON, 25 Dec -The Traditional Medical Exhibition, sponsored by the Department of Traditional Medicine of the Ministry of Health, continued at the Tatmadaw Convention Centre on U Wisara Road today.

The Department of Traditional Medicine, Medical Research Department, Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of Industry-1, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and private traditional medicine producers have opened booths at the exhibition. Similarly, Aungtaman Medical House, Natthudda Traditional Medicine booth, Zu Zun Za Cosmetics, Foodstuff and General Trading booth, Mawriya Medical Hall of Mandalay, Aye-nyeinthida Traditional Medicine booth of Monywa, Kya Nga Kaung Traditional Medicine booth of Kyaukme, Traditional Medicine booth form Kachin State and Saya Maung Medical House booth have also opened booths at the exhibition. The exhibition
continues up to 31 December free of charge.


(7) Commander inspects agriculture, regional development tasks in Kachin State

YANGON, 25 Dec- Hailing the 53rd Anniversary Independence Day, a ceremony to put back into service Seinpangon-Shwekyeena rural gravel road, constructed by Bhamo Township Development Committee, was held at the archway of the road on 20 December morning. Present were Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, Commander of Regional Control Command
(Bhamo) Brig-Gen Kyaw Oo Lwin, state, district and township authorities, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades, cultural troupes and local people totalling about 1,500.

Director of Kachin State Development Committee U Kan Hla reported on road construction for regional development in Kachin State. Then, the commander gave a speech. Later, the commander formally opened the road and inspected it.

The commander proceeded to Vegetable Special Zone-1 of Kachin State Peace and Development Council in Tetgele of Bhamo Township. Chairman of District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myo Swe and officials reported on cultivation of cold season crops, target for cultivation of groundnut, edible oil and kitchen crops in 2000-2001, progress of cultivation and production. The commander attended to local farmers and presented K 2 million as agricultural load to 65 farmers of Tetgale. The commander then inspected the Vegetable Special Zone-1.

In the afternoon, the commander heard reports on construction of Mandalay-Tagaung-Bhamo-Myitkyina strategic road, progress of work and requirements.

He then attended to their needs. Next, the commander inspected Watboe Raft-jetty in Bhamo timber extraction region and met local people at Shwegu Basic Education High School. On 21 December, the commander went to Vegetable Special Zone-2 of Kachin State Peace and Development Council in Shwegu Township. Afterwards, he presented K 1 million to as agricultural load to local farmers.


(8) Commander of Central Command inspects installation of elevator at EENT Hospital in Mandalay

YANGON, 25 Dec-Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Mandalay Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein and officials inspected installation of the elevator at Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital in Mandalay on 23 December.

The commander inspected the site for construction of the three-storey rehabilitation unit of Mandalay General Hospital and asked after health of Namhsan Myoma Gainggyoke Kyaung Sayadaw Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Kondina receiving treatment at the intensive care unit.

The commander presented offertories to the Sayadaw. The commander attended the sixth non-stop recitation of
Maha Pathana Desana on the platform of Mandalay Hill Hsutaungpyi Pagoda. The congregation received the Five Precepts from Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Masoeyein Taikthit Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Sirinandabhivamsa. The commander and guests presented offertories to the members of the Sangha. Sayadaw Bhaddantannanacisa delivered a sermon, followed by the sharing of merits. Members of the Sangha recited religious verses and the commander and guests offered " soon " to the members of the Sangha.


(9) 14 members resign from Ngaphe Township NLD of own accord

YANGON, 25 Dec- Fourteen members resigned of their own accord from the National League for Democracy of  Ngaphe Township, Magway Division. Fourteen members of Ngaphe Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Ngaphe Township Multiparty Democracy General
Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 13 May 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
