(1) Secretary-1 accepts cash for all-round renovation of Thakkyamarazein Bronze Buddha Image in KayanYANGON, 24 Dec-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended a cash-donation ceremony for all-round renovation of Thakkyamarazein Bronze Buddha Image in Kayan Township at the prayer hall of the Image this afternoon.
Also present on the occasion were Chairman of Kayan Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Maha Nayaka of the Image Board of Trustees Presiding Nayaka of Kainggon Kyaungtaik of Pali Tekkatho Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Kelasa and members of the Sangha, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, ministers, the Chief of Staff (Air), deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, department heads, members of District and Township Peace and Development Councils, members of the Image Board of Trustees and wellwishers. Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Kelasa invested the congregation with the Five Precepts.
Then, members of the Sangha recited the parittas. Afterwards, the Secretary-1 presented offertories to the members of the Sangha. The Commander and ministers also presented offertories to the members of the Sangha. Chairman of the Township Peace and Development Council U Maung Maung Soe and Director of SMI Co U Kyaw Kyaw Soe reported on all-round renovation of the Image, and the Secretary-1 gave instructions.
The Secretary-1 accepted the donations K 1 million by U Myo Myint-Daw Myat Myat Thi and family; K 100,000 each by U Maung Maung Soe-Daw Nyunt Nyunt Swe and family; U Myint Oo-Daw Khin Khin Soe and family; U Mya Khin-Daw Htaw and family; U Laung Saing-Daw Yu and family; U Than Tun-Daw Aye Myaing and family and U Mya Win-Daw Htaik and family. People of Kayan Township donated K 12 million for all-round renovation of the Image through the Commander. Donations for all-round renovation of the Image have amounted to over K 13.9 million.
Then, the Chairman Sayadaw of the Township Sangha Nayaka Committee delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained. After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 inspected work to be done for the renovation of the Image and left necessary instructions. Later, the Secretary-1 and party left for Yangon by helicopter and arrived back here at 2.20 p.m.
(2) Kunmoedein Sanpya Village primary school of Kayan gets new building with modern teaching aids
YANGON, 24 Dec- Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt today attended the opening ceremony of a new building of Kunmoedein Sanpya Village Basic Education Primary School, Kayan Township, Yangon South District, and made a speech.
Accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, ministers, the Chief of Staff (Air), deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council and departmental heads, the Secretary-1 helicoptered to Kayan and arrived there at 8.30 am.
They next proceeded to Kunmoedein Sanpya Village by car opening ceremony of a new building of the primary school. First, they attended a ceremony to share merits for the new building at Sasana Jotika Dhammayon of the village. Vice-Patron of Mandalay Masoeyein Taikthit Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Rajadhammabhivamsa invested the congregation with the Five Precepts. Then, the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha recited the Metta Sutta and parittas.
The Secretary-1 and party later offered alms to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha. Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Rajadhammabhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.
The Secretary-1, the Commander and party offered " soon " to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha. The opening ceremony of the new building of the primary school was later held at the school. Headmistress of Kunmoedein Sanpya Village Basic Education Primary School formally opened the new building. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt formally unveiled the stone inscription bearing the record of the opening ceremony.
The Secretary-1 and party later went round the e-electronic media (video) room, art room, domestic science training room, and music and fine arts room, and viewed the skills demonstrated by the pupils. The ceremony to hand over the new building to the Ministry of Education was held in the hall of the school in conjunction with a cash donation ceremony. Member of the construction committee U Myint Oo explained the construction work.
Later, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented desks, tables, TV set, video-cassette player, cassette player, battery and teaching aid video tapes for the school to the Headmistress. The Secretary-1, the Commander and Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung accepted the cash donations which included K 80,000 by U Kyaw Win and Daw Thein Thein family of Mandalay, K-58,000 by the Patron Sayadaw of Mandalay Masoeyein Taikthit, K 52,300 by U Htein Win and Daw Than Aye of Khayan, K-28,600 by U Tun Tin and Daw Aye Shin of Kunmoedein Sanpya Village, among others.
Secretary of the school building construction committee Chairman of the Village Peace and Development Council U Myint Shwe handed over the documents on the building to Deputy Director-General U Tin Win of No-3 Basic Education Department. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt lauded the dwellers of the village for their efforts for emergence of the new building with the support and encouragement by the government. He said it was the initiative by Patron Sayadaw of Mandalay Masoeyein Taikthit Bhaddanta Kesarabhivamsa, who is the native of the village. While the government is striving for nurturing the youths to become brilliant and reliable intelligentsia and intellectuals, the cooperation of the residents of Kunmoedein Sanpya Village is a boon.
The Secretary-1 praised the villagers for their duty-consciousness in trying their best and cooperating in the endeavours for training their children to be outstanding in education.
Now that a new school building has emerged with modern teaching aids, teachers and children of the village can use them for promotion of the education standard. The Secretary-1 urged all to continue to strive for promotion of the education standard of the youths of the village. After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party had a documentary photo taken together with members of the school building construction committee, teachers and pupils.
(3) Min Zaw Oo and Saw Thiri Naing, Mr and Miss Myanmar for 2000 Secretary-1 presents prizes to winners
YANGON, 24 Dec-The 2000 Mr and Miss Myanmar contest, organized by Myanmar Bodybuilding and Physical Culture Federation, was held at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street today, attended by Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Also present were member of the Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, ministers, Patron of Myanmar Bodybuilding and Physical Culture Federation Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Yangon Mayor, members of the Panel of Patrons of Myanmar Women Sports Federation, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and heads of department, Vice-Chairman of International Body Building Federation and General Secretary of Asia Body Building Federation Mr Paul Chua, Executive Director of International Body Building Federation Ms Pamela Kagan, Secretary of Women Committee of Asia Body Building Federation Ms Christina Kam, officials of Myanmar Bodybuilding and Physical Culture Federation, presidents of sports federations, sports fans and guests. Miss Myanmar (Junior) contest, Miss Myanmar (Senior) contest, Mr Myanmar (Junior) contest and Mr Myanmar (Senior) contest were held.
Prize presentation ceremony was held in the evening. Wife of Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department Daw L Khun Yi presented prizes to Kay Khaing Oo, May Pwint Hlaing, Khin Su Su Lwin, Sanda Nwe and Hnin Nwe Ni Hlaing who stood first, second, third, fourth and fifth respectively in Miss Myanmar (Junior) contest. Wife of Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee and Minister for Sports Daw Aye Aye presented prizes to Saw Thiri Naing, Nang Yin Yin Nyunt, Chaw Su Thu Thu Zaw, Hla Aye Myint and Mya Min Min Mu who stood first, second, third, fourth and fifth respectively in Miss Myanmar (Senior) contest.
Patron of Myanmar Bodybuilding and Physical Culture Federation Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Yangon Mayor U Ko Lay presented prizes to Aung Gyi, Lay Naing and Win Naing Oo who were fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in Mr Myanmar (Junior) contest. Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint presented prizes to Zaw Wan, Nge Nge Htwe and Nay Lin who were first, second and third respectively in Mr Myanmar (Junior) contest. Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than presented prizes to Aung Swe Naing, Aung Naing Win and Aung Naing who were fourth, fifth and respectively in Mr Myanmar (Senior) contest. The Secretary-1 presented first prize to Min Zaw Oo, second to Zaw Thein Naing and third to Tun Tun Aung in Mr Myanmar (Senior) contest. The Secretary-1 and party posed for photo together with Vice-Chairman of International Body Building Federation and General Secretary of Asia Body Building Federation Mr Paul Chua and members.
(4) Families of Tatmadaw, wellwishers donate provisions to Sarthintaiks, Yangon Education Centre for the Blind (Khawegyan)
YANGON, 24 Dec - Families of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers made donations in cash and kind to Thadu Pariyatti Sarthintaik, Salin Kyaungtaik and Pyilon Chantha Sarthintaik in Kyi-myindine Township, Yangon West District, and to Yangon Education Centre for the Blind (Khawegyan) in Mayangon Township today. Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Bureau of Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the donation ceremonies.
The ceremony to make donations in cash and kind to Thadu Pariyatti Sarthintaik, Salin Kyaungtaik and Pyilon Chantha Sarthintaik was held at Thadu Pariyatti Sarthintaik at the corner of Strand Road and Natsin Street in Kyi-myindine Township at 9 am.
The ceremony was also attended by Chairman of Kyimyindine Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Presiding Sayadaw of Salin Kyaungtaik Yadana Theinkha Kyaung Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Paninda, Sayadaws and members of the Sangha. Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, deputy ministers, senior military officers, the officer on special duty at the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, members of Yangon West District and Kyimyindine Township Peace and Development Councils, wellwishers and guests were also present.
The Secretary-2 and party received the Five Precepts from Sayadaw Bhaddanta Paninda. The Secretary-2 and the deputy ministers offered alms to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha. Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo and Officiating Colonel Air Staff (Mechanical) Lt-Col Ye Chit Pe offered rice donated by the families of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air), to the Sayadaws.
Deputy Minister for Energy U Tin Tun presented rice donated by the Ministry of Energy, to members of the Sangha. Then, Yangon City Development Committee, Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, Yangon West District and Kyi-myindine Township Peace and Development Councils, Myanma Salt and Marine Chemical Enterprise of Ministry of Mines and wellwishers presented 168 bags of rice, 70 viss of edible oil, 250 viss of iodized salt, 27 tubes of toothpaste and 832 bottles of traditional medicines to members of the Sangha.
Afterwards, YCDC, Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, Traditional Medicine Department and wellwishers donated K 427,000 to the trust funds through senior military officers and deputy ministers.
Then, Director of People's Militia and Frontier Forces Brig-Gen Than Maung supplicated on purpose of the donations. The Township Chairman Sayadaw delivered a sermon. The Secretary-2 and party and wellwishers shared merits gained. Similarly, a ceremony to donate provisions of Tatmadaw families and wellwishers to the school of Yangon Education Centre for the Blind (Khawegyan) was held at the school at 11 am today, attended by Secretary-2 Chief of the Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Also present were senior military officers, deputy ministers, the OSD at the State Peace and Development Council Office, officials and wellwishers. Archbishop of Yangon Education Centre for the Blind (Khawegyan) U Tun Gon Gyi extended greetings. Then, the Secretary-2 made donations of his family to Yangon Education Centre for the Blind (Khawegyan) Chairman of the Yangon Education Centre for the Blind U Hla Lwin and General Secretary U Thein Lwin accepted the donations and presented gifts to the Secretary-2.
Afterwards, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo and Officiating Colonel Air Staff (Mechanical) Lt-Col Ye Chit Pe presented rice donated by Tatmadaw families to the centre Chairman U Hla Lwin and General Secretary U Thein Lwin. Likewise, Yangon City Development Committee, Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, district and township authorities, departments and wellwishers presented provisions and K 170,000 to U Hla Lwin and U Thein Lwin. Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun explained the purpose of the donations. Joint General Secretary U Patrick Lu Ni reported on tasks of Yangon Education Centre for the Blind (Khawegyan). Then, songs were presented by students and the ceremony came to a close. After the ceremony, the Secretary-2 and party posed for documentary photo together with officials and students of Yangon Education Centre for the Blind (Khawegyan).
" Soon "offered to mark 53rd Anniversary of Defence Services (Navy) DayYANGON, 24 Dec- A ceremony to offer " soon" to members of the Sangha to mark the 53rd Anniversary of Defence Services (Navy) Day was held at Mararizaya Yanmyoaung Dhammayon of Ayeyawady Naval Region Command this morning, attended by Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Kyi Min and wife Daw Aye Aye.
First, " soon " was offered to 27 members of the Sangha including Professor Agga Maha Gandhavacaka Pandita Sayadaw Bhaddanta Gandhamalabhivamsa of Abhidhamma Department of the State Pariyatti Sasana University. Then, Sayadaw Bhaddanta Gandhamalabhivamsa administered the Five Precepts. Afterwards, Rear-Admiral Kyi Min and Daw Aye Aye donated provisions to the Sayadaw. Senior naval officers also donated provisions to members of the Sangha.
Later, the Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits. Also present were Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein and wife, senior naval officers of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy)' Office and naval region commands, officers, Tatmadawmen and their families totalling 500. Afterwards, the sports meet was held at Ayeyawady Naval Region Command and officials presented prizes to the winners. In the evening, Shwe-wawin Anyeint troupe presented entertainment programmes to audience at Thiha Thura Tun Tin Hall.
(5) Myanmar War Veteran Organization (Rakhine State) holds Pre-Conference
YANGON, 24 Dec - Myanmar War Veteran Organization (Rakhine State) held its Pre-Conference at the town hall in Sittway this morning. Patron of Rakhine State War Veteran Organization of MWVO Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen Aung Htwe attended it.
Also present were members of the central organizing committee of MWVO Deputy Minister for Labour Brig-Gen Win Sein, Director-General of Information and Public Relations Department U Chit Naing, Control Commander of Myanmar Police Force Battalions Police Brig-Gen Aung Nwe, officials , others associations and delegates to the Conference in townships of Rakhine State and guests.
Lt-Col Tin Aung Naing (Retd) presided over the Pre-Conference with Lt-Col Sein Hla (Retd) and Captain Kyaw Soe (Retd) as members of the panel of chairmen and Daw Swe Swe Than and Daw Khin Hnin Hnin Toe as master of ceremonies and joint master of ceremonies respectively.
The master of ceremonies declared the Pre-Conference open as there was 100% attendance. Then, Lt-Col Tin Aung Naing (Retired) made an opening speech. Members of the Supervisory Committee of Rakhine State War Veteran Organization Captain Myint Thura (Retired), Captain Ohn Lwin (Retired) and Captain Soe Thu (Retired) read the report of Rakhine State WVO. Lt-Col Than Tun (Retired), Maj Myat Soe (Retired), Captain Myo Min Soe (Retired), Captain Soe Nyunt (Retired) and Captain Taing Kyaw (Retired) discussed matters related to the national political sector, the national defence and security sector, the economic sector, the social and welfare sector and the communal welfare sector respectively. The Pre-Conference made a decision on one matter, approved two matters and placed two matters on record.
Afterwards, Lt-Col Tin Aung Naing (Retired) made a concluding speech. Donations made to the fund of Rakhine State WVO included K 1 million by the Central Organizational Committee of MWVO, K 50,000 by Myanmar Nagamin Company, K 50,000 by Rakhine State Fishery Department, K 50,000 by Myanma Petroleum Products Enterprise, K 50,000 by Captain Kyaw Soe (Retired), K 30,000 by Padamya Consultant Company, K 15,000 by Rakhine State Immigration and Population Department and K 10,000 by Rakhine State Port Authority Office.
(6) University of Culture (Yangon) holds 4th Convocation
YANGON, 24 Dec - The Fourth Convocation of the University of Culture (Yangon) was held at the Yangon University Convocation Hall today. Rector of the University of Culture (Yangon) U Tin Soe conferred B.A. degrees on those winning Honorary B.A and those who have passed the fourth-year course, and delivered a speech. Rector U Tin Soe conferred Honorary B.A (Music) on Lecturer U Than Aye of the Department of Music, Honorary B.A (Art) on Lecturer U Min San Chein and Lecturer U Hla Min of the Department of Art, Honorary B.A (Sculpture) on Lecturer U Aung Kyaw of the Department of Sculpture, and B.A (Music) on 27 students, B.A (Dramatic Art) on 27 students, B.A (Art) on 34 students, and B.A (Sculpture) on eight students. Also present were the faculty members of the university, and parents and relatives of the graduates.
Commander, Minister inspect forest, bamboo groves for Thabaung Pulp Factory
YANGON, 24 Dec- Member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann and Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, accompanied by Deputy Director-General U Shwe Kyaw of the Forest Department and General Manager U Thein Win of Myanma Paper and Chemical Enterprise and officials, yesterday inspected implementation of 200-ton Pulp Factory Project and its environs in Hlaygyitet region of Thabaung Township, the forest reserved as raw material for the factory and bamboo groves and forests along Thabaung-Gwa road on the western bank of Ngawun River by helicopter. At Gwa, the commander and the minister met officials and local people.
Officials reported on the condition of trees and bamboo groves and the felling of trees in Gwa and Ngathaingchaung area. The minister said in line with the guidance of the Head of State, pulp factory projects, newsprint factory projects and paper mill projects are being implemented in Ayeyawady and Mandalay Divisions and Rakhine State; on completion of these projects, not only respective regions but businesses of local people will make progress and so, local people are to help strive for the availability of raw materials such as wood and bamboos for the factories. Then, the commander and the minister fulfilled the requirements of the wood and bamboo merchants.
At Thidakonmyint area, the commander and the minister spoke about the availability of wood and bamboos for the factory and assistance to be provided. Bamboo merchants reported on matters related to wood and bamboo and transportation. The commander and the minister gave necessary instructions. In the afternoon, the minister arrived at Kyangin Cement Plant and inspected functions of the plant being jointly run by Mitsubishi Corporation and repair of the kiln. At Thayawady Ceramics Factory, the minister inspected the production process.
(7) Upgraded Hsu Htoo Pan cinema opens
YANGON, 24 Dec-A ceremony to open the upgraded Hsu Htoo Pan Cinema of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise of the Ministry of Information was held at the cinema on Bogyoke Aung San Street in Kyauktada Township this morning, attended by Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung. Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, departmental heads, invited guests, member artistes of Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon and personnel of the cinema. Managing Director of MMPE U Bo Kyi and proprietors of Wah Wah Win Shwe Co U Than Htut and two academy awards winner Daw Wah Wah Win Shwe formally opened the cinema. The minister, the managing director and guests viewed the cinema and saw the film shown to mark the opening ceremony of the cinema. New films will be on at the cinema, and there are four shows a day.
(8) Streets put back into service
YANGON, 24 Dec - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, together with Director-General of Development Affairs Department Col Myo Myint, attended ceremonies to open streets in Thayawady, Letpadan and Minhla Townships today
Also present on the occasions were Chairman of Bago Division (West) Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Phone Myint and Secretary Lt-Col Ye Myint, Director of Bago Division (West) Development Affairs Committee U Tin Soe and district and township level departmental officials and local people. Kwetthit Lanmadaw Street, 884 feet long and 12 feet wide, was built on self-reliance in Thayawady at a cost of K 1,180,00 including K 880,000 provided by Development Affairs Committee and K 300,000 contributed by the people. Kwetthit Street-2 and Yadana Street were also put back into service. In Thayawady Township, two urban roads and two rural roads will be built with the use of K 7,021,050 in the 2000-2001 fiscal year.
In Letpadan Township, No 4 Tarred Street, 705 feet long and 12 feet wide, was built at a cost of K 1,080,500 including K 432,400 provided by Development Affairs Committee and K 648,100 provided by the public. In the 2000-2001 fiscal year, one urban road and two rural roads will be constructed with the use of K 5,726,900. In Minhla Township, Hsetgyidan Tarred Street, 845 feet long and 12 feet wide, was built at a cost of K 1,426,000 including K 906,000 provided by Development Affairs Committee and K 520,000 provided by the public, and Ohnhnechaung Laterite Street, 1,200 feet long and 8 feet wide, was built at a cost of K 264,800. In the 2000-2001 fiscal year, two urban roads and three rural roads will be built with the use of K 3,626,750.
(9) 50 MraukU Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 24 Dec-Fifty members resigned from the National League for Democracy of MraukU Township, Rakhine Division. Fifty members of MraukU Township NLD, Rakhine Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to MraukU Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 30 September 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
