(1) Senior General Than Shwe receives Supreme Commander of Royal Thai Armed ForcesYANGON, 12 Dec- Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe received Supreme Commander of Royal Thai Armed Forces General Sampao Choosri and members at Credentials Hall of the Pyithu Hluttaw building at 3 p.m. today.
Also present together with Senior General Than Shwe were Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye,Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies and Director of Defence Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Military Attaché of Myanmar Embassy to Thailand Col Kyaw Han. YANGON, 12 Dec- Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye met visiting Supreme Commander of Royal Thai Armed Forces General Sampao Choosri and party at Zeyarthiri Hall on Konmyinttha at 10.30 am today.

YANGON, 12 Dec- At the invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Supreme Commander of Royal Thai Armed Forces General Sampao Choosri and wife and party arrived here by air at 9.10 am today to pay a goodwill visit to Myanmar.

General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and party together with the Supreme Commander of Royal Thai Armed Forces and wife and party went to the special lounge. Afterwards, General Maung Aye and General Sampao Choosri took the salute of the Guard of Honour and inspected it.
Then, General Maung Aye and wife and Thai General and wife and party left Yangon International Airport for Tatmadaw Guest House on Inya Road in a motorcade.
Supreme Commander of Royal Thai Armed Forces General Sampao Choosri and party pay tribute to Memorial to Fallen HeroesYANGON, 12 Dec-Supreme Commander of Royal Thai Armed Forces General Sampao Choosri and party currently here at the invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, accompanied by Director of Supply and Transport Brig-Gen Than Htay, Myanmar Military Attach' to Thailand Col Kyaw Han, Thai Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Pensak Chalarak and Thai Military Attach' Col Chaiwat Satondee, arrived at the Memorial to Fallen Heroes at 2.30 p.m. today.
They were welcomed by Chairman of Maintenance Committee for Memorial to Fallen Heroes Commander of Yangon Station Brig-Gen Myo Myint and party. Supreme Commander of Royal Thai General Sampao Choosri and party laid wreath of flowers and paid tribute to the fallen heroes.
Then, the general signed in the visitors' book there. Later, General Sampao Choosri and party arrived at Shwedagon Pagoda at 4 p.m. They were welcomed there by Adviser at the State Peace and Development Council Office U Ant Maung and members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees.
The visiting general and party then paid obeisance to the pagoda and were conducted round it by member of the Pagoda Board of Trustees U Kyi Myint. The general signed in the visitor's book and made donations there.
Wife of Supreme Commander of Royal Thai Armed Forces and party visit MMCWAYANGON, 12 Dec- Madame Thanawan Choosri, wife of Supreme Commander of Royal Thai Armed Forces General Sampao Choosri, and wives of senior officers, currently here at the invitation of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, visited Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association at the corner of Thanthuma and Parami Roads in South Okkalapa Township at 10.45 am today.
They were welcomed there by Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and Central Executive Committee members. First, Chairperson Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe explained about MMCWA and answered the queries. They then cordially held a discussion.
Then, Chairperson Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe and Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe presented gifts to Madame Thanawan Choosri and party. Next, Madame Thanawan Choosri presented donations and gifts for the association to the Chairperson. Afterwards, Madame Thanawan Choosri signed in the visitors' book and viewed documentary photos of the association. The guests then visited the Child All-round Development Centre, the Domestic Science Training School and the Clinic for Women of the association.

YANGON, 12 Dec -Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo met Vice-Chairmen of China Worldbest Group Co Ltd Mr Mei Shouchun and Mr Lujiyan and Economic and Commercial Counsellor Mr Jin Honggen at the Prime Minister's Office at 5 p.m. today. YANGON, 12 Dec - Laotian health delegation led by Deputy Minister of Health of Lao People's Democratic Republic Dr Davone Vongsack arrived here by air yesterday morning. The delegation was welcomed by Deputy Minister for Health Professor Dr Mya Oo, Director-General of Health Department Dr Wan Maung, First Secretary of the Lao PDR Embassy Mr Khamsouay Keodalavong and officials of the ministry.
Minister for Foreign Affairs arrives back
YANGON, 12 Dec- A Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung arrived back here by air this evening after attending the 13th ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) in Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic, on 11 and 12 December, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Somsavat Leng-savad of Lao PDR. The delegation was welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Charge d'Affaires ai of the Lao Embassy Mr Khamsouay Keoda-lavong and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Members of the delegation Director-General U Nyunt Maung Shein of Political Department and Assistant Director U Myint Thu of ASEAN Affairs Department also arrived back on the same flight.
(6) DHSHD, ROK-based company sign contract on $ 2m dress and casual shoe factory project
YANGON, 12 Dec - A ceremony to sign a contract on cent-per-cent foreign investment and land lease between the Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development and the Esquire International Co Ltd based in the Republic of Korea was held at the Traders Hotel today. The Korean company will build a dress and casual shoes factory on 2.002-acre plot of the DHSHD in the Section-2 of Hlinethaya Industrial Zone.
The contract-signing was witnessed by Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Ministers for Construction U Tint Swe and Brig-Gen Myint Thein, the Ambassador of ROK to Myanmar, departmental heads and officials of departments and enterprises of the Ministry of Construction and private industrial companies. Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun and Ambassador of ROK to Myanmar Mr Chung Jung Keum delivered addresses. Afterwards, Managing Director of Esquire International Co Ltd Mr Beom Lee extended greetings.
Director-General of the DHSHD U Arnt Kyaw and Managing Director of Esquire International Co Ltd Mr Beom Lee signed the contract and exchanged the documents. Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun presented the permit by Myanmar Investment Commission to Managing Director of Esquire International Co Ltd Mr Beom Lee.
The ROK-based company is going to invest US$ 2 million to establish a factory to produce dress shoes and casual shoes ranging from 450,000 to 900,000. It targets to export 95 per cent and sell the remaining five per cent at local market.
Workshop on Application of Human Resources Development Indicators opens
YANGON, 12 Dec-The opening ceremony of Workshop on Application of Human Resources Development Indicators co-sponsored by Labour Department of Ministry of Labour and United Nations Fund for Population Activities was held at Hotel Nikko in Bahan Township this morning. Present on the occasion were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Lt-Gen Min Thein, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister for Labour Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Attorney-General U Tha Tun, Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye, Deputy Minister for Labour Brig-Gen Win Sein, directors-general of departments, boards and committees under the Ministry of Labour, departmental officials, diplomats of ASEAN countries, resident representative of UNFPA, members of Working Groups for regular collection and issue of Human Resources Development Indicators, delegates and observers. First, Minister Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe delivered a speech.
Then, Country Director Dr Sheila Macrae of UNFPA made a speech. Ambassador U Thet Tun (Retd) presided over the morning session of the workshop. Director U Ba Than (Retd) of Personnel Affairs Department presided over the afternoon session of the workshop. The workshop came to an end with the concluding remarks by Chairman of Working Groups for regular collection and issue of Human Resources Development Indicators Director-General Col Soe Nyunt of Labour Department.

YANGON, 12 Dec - The opening ceremony of the 29th On-Job Training Course for Deputy Staff Officers of Planning Department, Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development was held at the training hall of Planning Department at the Minister's Office on Theinbyu Road this morning.
Asset Management and Investment Services explained
YANGON, 12 Dec-A ceremony to explain Asset Management and Investment Services jointly sponsored by the Central Bank of Myanmar of the Ministry of Finance and Revenue and Deutsche Bank AG and Deutsche Asset Management Ltd of Singapore was held at the Central Bank of Myanmar this afternoon. Present were Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Than Tun, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung, directors-general and managing directors of departments and enterprises, General Manager of Deutsche Bank AG Mr Andreas A Hoffmann, Managing Director Mr Choy Peng Wah of Deutsche Asset Management Ltd and guests from State-owned and private banks.
Minister U Khin Maung Thein said asset management and investment services form one of modern banking services and State-owned and private banks have developed rapidly. He spoke of the need to apply these banking services. General Manager Mr Andreas A Hoffmann also spoke on the occasion. Queries were made by those present.
Present were Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, directors-general, directors, officials, guests and trainees. Minister U Soe Tha made a speech and explained the tasks of the ministry and the department. Altogether 100 trainees from head office, State/Division, district and township planning offices are attending the course.
Minister inspects construction of Thanlawady-6 double-deckerYANGON, 12 Dec-Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Managing Director of Myanma Shipyards U Percy Maung Maung and officials inspected construction of Thanlawady-6 double-decker at Myanma Shipyards (Hsinmalaik) in Kamayut Township this morning.
The minister inspected deck space and rest room for passengers and engine room and gave instructions. The minister then inspected construction of new ships for foreign companies. The minister then inspected computer course at the shipyards.
(8) Mindhamma Hill alive with chanting of religious verses
YANGON, 12 Dec-Devotees, pilgrims and members of the Sangha from far and near thronged Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township where Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image is kept. Recitation of religious verses continued today.
Deputy Superintending Engineer U Nyunt Maung, engineers, workers of Buildings Construction Project Special Group-2 of Public Works continued construction of Gandhakuti Kyaung-dawgyi, Southern and northern stairways and the retaining walls. Stone Sculpture U Taw Taw and sons continued carving the image.
Decoration works were carried out by Myanmar handicraft technician U Ohn Tin and group. Wut associations recited religious verses from 7 am to 10 p.m. in turn.
The Sayadaw and disciples from Shwe Kyaung, Singapore, together with Director-General of the Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana U Sann Lwin and officials, Managing Director of Sri Asia Travel Agency U Htein Tin and members, visited the image and were briefed on background and tasks for the image to look sublime by Director-General of Religious Affairs Department Dr Myo Myint.
Bookshops of Ministry of Religious Affairs, News and Periodicals Enterprise and Sarpay Beikman sold various kinds of books, encyclopedia year-book (2000) and calendars for year 2001. Donation Centre is opened from 7 am to 9 p.m. daily and donation by the public have amounted to K 110,735,281 from 5 August to date.
Chinese Buddhist mission concludes visitYANGON, 12 Dec-The Chinese Buddhist mission led by Vice-Chairman Mr Dao Shuren of Buddhist Association, China, which arrived here at the invitation of Ministry of Religious Affairs, returned home this morning. Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, Director-General of the Department of Promotion and Propagation of Sasana U Sann Lwin and officials saw them off at the airport. The mission attended the convocation ceremony of the State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkathos held in Mandalay on 10 December.

YANGON, 12 Dec- A 120-member Buddhist delegation led by Sayadaw of Buddhist Golden Temple of Singapore Maha Saddham-majotikadhaja Ven Shi Fa Zhao arrived here by air this afternoon. The delegation was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, Director-General U Sann Lwin of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana, officials and Managing Director U Htain Tin and members of Sri Asia Tourism Services
(9) Excursion group of Homein region visits Hlinethaya
YANGON, 12 Dec-The visiting members of Shan State (South) Union Solidarity and Development Association and excursion group of Homein region, accompanied by Assistant Director Captain Win Maung and officials of Progress of Border Areas and National Races Department, visited Hlinethaya City of Industry and Bo Myat Tun Bridge this morning. Project Manager U Tun Myint of Hlinethaya City of Industry extended greetings and explained urban development housing projects and establishment of Hlinethaya City of Industry to them. They visited Shweywet-hlay Garment Factory and Top Detergent factory. They proceeded to Bo Myat Tun Bridge where Assistant Engineer U Saw Lwin briefed on the bridge. In the evening, they enjoyed film at Thamada Cinema.
17 Minbu (Sagu) NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 12 Dec-Seventeen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Minbu (Sagu) Township, Magway Division. Seventeen members of Minbu (Sagu) Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Minbu (Sagu) Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 11 May 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
