Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt extended greetings to the ministers, heads of department, specially-invited guests, old students and new generation students of Myomakyaung, saying " May you all be blessed with all kinds of auspiciousness and may you all be able to promote national interests with nationalism.
He expressed his belief that the holding of the 80th Anniversary of Myoma School, which had played a vital role in Myanma national struggle, on the historic and significant National Day reflects the correct trend of Myanma history and further uplifts the national spirit of the new generation students.
Today, the State and the people are endeavouring for promotion of standard of national education with the aim of enabling the Union of Myanmar to stand tall among the world nations and to keep abreast with other nations in terms of development.
The observing of the National Day and old students " giving assistance and encouragement for improvement of standard of education of new generation students, portray national essence.
The high standard of education of the entire national people and strong national pride and spirit is the main requirement for the progress of the nation and its people. When Myanmar was under subjugation, the colonialists systematically schemed to lower the standard of education of Myanmar people, to weaken their national spirit, to debase their culture and their national cause; the colonialists dealt with Myanmar people as their slaves.
The Myomakyaung was in the forefront when Myanmar youths motivated by strong patriotism, protested the colonial education system with the support of the entire national people, and national schools were set up to uplift national spirit and improve the standard of national education. The national schools including Myomakyaung, have gained the deserving status in the history of the national independence struggle as they played a vital role in rekindling national spirit and patriotism of the entire Myanmar people through Myanmar youths.
The old and new generation Myoma students jointly held the golden jubilee of Myomakyaung on a grand scale; the government gave encouragement and assistance to the students to be able to hold the ceremony with full national essence. Since then, endeavours to hand down the noble heritage such as the inculcating of the youths including students with national spirit, patriotism and Union Spirit and the turning out of persons who are brilliant in all fields and national leaders, are gathering momentum.
It is encouraging to see that the old students have played a leading role in setting up education trust funds for new generation students, and therefore, tasks which benefit the schools and students such as presenting prizes to students who are outstanding in education, sports, culture and fine arts, giving scholarship awards and providing modern teaching aids and renovating school buildings, are being carried out successfully and effectively.
Old students of Myoma-kyaung are passing on their rich experience and knowledge and national awareness to the new generation by celebrating the anniversaries of Myomakyaung, in order to keep dynamic and alive national pride which plays a crucial role in uplifting national prestige and integrity and to ensure the flourishing of Myoma spirit and traditions among student youths of new generation.
It has been for five years that contributions are made every year to the education trust fund set up for the future of the youth of new generations in addition to giving moral encouragement. It is believed that old students of Myomakyaung, with dynamic nationalism, ardent generosity and noble aims, will continue to uphold the good tradition of giving assistance and encouragement to students of new generation to enable them to have a clear national outlook, to be imbued with patriotism and love for the nation, to excel in education and to acquire education of international level.
The student youths of new generation, on their part, are to accept good heritage passed on by old students of Myomakyaung, to keep alive and dynamic " Myoma spirit " combined with anti colonialist sentiment, the spirit of preserving one' own lineage, the spirit of cherishing and preserving national culture, the spirit of national solidarity and the Union Spirit and to preserve and safeguard the independence and sovereignty of the State with Myoma spirit. It is believed that under the leadership of the government, old students of Myomakyaung will continue to strive to uplift the standard of education of youths of new generation and to keep nationalism dynamic and alive, which are the most important to enable the Union of Myanmar to keep abreast with other nations and to be able to stand tall in the international community for ever.
In conclusion, the Secretary-1 exhorted old students and new students of Myomakyaung to preserve and uplift the prestige of Myomakyaung and to cooperate with one another with full Myoma spirit in realizing the objectives of the National Day: to strengthen national spirit; to preserve the traditions of origin, lineage and national character; to consolidate unity, and; to perpetuate independence and sovereignty.
