(1) Senior General Than Shwe offers Shwekya Thingan to Dhamma Cakka Mudra Buddha Image at Buddha's  Tooth Relic Pagoda (Yangon)
 
 YANGON, 10 Nov - The Fifth Buddha Pujaniya and consecration ceremony of Buddha's Tooth Relic Pagoda  (Yangon) and the ceremony to offer Shwekya Thingan the Buddha image, donate provisions to members of  the Sangha and share merits gained were held at the pagoda in Mayangon Township this morning. Chairman  of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence
Services Senior General Than  Shwe attended the ceremonies and offered the Shwekya Thingan (gold lotus robe) to Dhamma Cakka Mudra  Buddha Image.
 
Also present on the occasion were State Ovadacariya Sayadaws, member Sayadaws of the State Sangha  Maha Nayaka Committee, Tipitakadara Sayadaws, Chairman Sayadaw of Yangon Division Sangha Nayaka  Committee, chairmen Sayadaws of Township Sangha Nayaka Committees, Pro-Rector Sayadaw and head of  department Sayadaws of the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, Patron Sayadaw of the  State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon) and administration and lecturer Sayadaws and Sayadaws who  have compiled the Abhidhamma treatise totalling 45, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development  Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye  and wife Daw Mya Mya San, Secretary-1 of
the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and  wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo's wife Daw Khin Than Nwe, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen  Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo,  ministers, the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General, the  Auditor-General, the Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board, the Chairman of Yangon City  Development Committee the
Mayor of Yangon and their wives, members of the Leading Committee of the  Pagoda Pujaniya, the Work Committee and subcommittees, members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees and  guests. First, Senior General Than Shwe and party offered dawn meal to the Sayadaws.
 
The Buddha Pujaniya ceremony began at 5.55 am. Director of Religious Affairs Department U Nyunt Maung  read out the agenda. Sayadaws consecrated the Buddha images. Afterwards, the ceremony to share the  merits gained and to offer Shwekya Thingan to the Buddha images was held. Vice-Chairman of State Sangha  Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Sirindabbhivamsa
administered the Nine  Precepts.
 
The Sayadaws recited parittas. Senior General Than Shwe and senior officials presented robes and  offertories to the Sayadaws. Mayor of Yangon U Ko Lay presented K 35 million donated by YCDC to the  Buddha's Tooth Relic Pagoda (Yangon) to Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin. Secretary of State  Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhi-dhaja Agga Maha  Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta Kumara delivered a sermon. The congregation shared the merits gained.
Senior  General Than Shwe then offered Shwekya Thingan to the Dhamma Cakka Mudra Buddha Image.

General  Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San offered Shwekya Thingan to the Warada Mudra  Buddha Image.  Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe offered Shwekya Thingan to the Uttara Bodi  Mudra Buddha Image.
 
Daw Khin Than Nwe offered Shwekya Thingan to the Labha Mudra Buddha Image. Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win  Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo offered Shwekya Thingan to the Maha Garuna Mudra Buddha Image.  Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and wife Prof Dr Daw Nan Oo offered Shwekya  Thingan to the Zana Mudra Buddha Image, Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun and wife
Daw Tin Tin Sein,  the Bumiphassa Mudra Buddha Image, Deputy Prime Minister Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla and  wife Daw Win Kyi, the Santida Mudra Buddha Image, and member of the State Peace and Development  Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than  and wife Daw Marlar Tint, the Pyatihariya Mudra Buddha Image.
 
The congregation then shared the merits gained. Afterwards, the ceremony to offer provisions to members of  the Sangha was held. Senior General Than Shwe, General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San, Lt-Gen  Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Daw Khin Than Nwe, Lt-Gen Win
Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho  Oo, members of the State Peace and Development Council and their wives, Deputy Prime Ministers and their  wives, ministers, deputy ministers, heads of departments, members of District and Township Peace and  Development Councils, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association and other social  organizations and wellwishers took their designated places
and offered provisions to Sayadaws. The  congregation then shared the merits gained.
  



(2 ) Vice-Chairman of State Peace and Development Council General Maung Aye to pay official goodwill visit  to India
 
YANGON, 11 Nov-At the invitation of the Vice-President of the Republic of India, HE Shri Krishan Kant, the  Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council General Maung Aye will pay an official goodwill  visit to the Republic of India in the near future.
 


(3 )  Secretary-1 attends 42nd communal Kathina ceremony of Maha Saywingaba Arlainngasint Kyaungtaik
 
YANGON, 10 Nov-The 42nd communal Kathina ceremony of Maha Saywingaba Arlainngasint Kyaungtaik,  Nantthagon Ward, Insein Township, was held at the Kyaungtaik this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the  State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe.
 
Also present on the occasion were Joint-Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha  Pandita Nyaungdon Sayadaw Bhaddanta Osadhabhivamsa, Presiding Sayadaw of the Kyaungtaik Bhaddanta  Agga Dhamma and members of the Sangha, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Yangon Mayor  U Ko Lay and wife, Deputy Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies Deputy Director of Defence Services  Intelligence Maj-Gen Kyaw Win and department heads, military officers and guests. Nyaungdon Sayadaw  Bhaddanta Osadabhivamsa invested the
congregation with the Nine Precepts. Members of the Sangha  recited the parittas.
 
The Secretary-1 and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe presented Kathina robes and offertories to Sayadaws  Bhaddanta Osadhabhivamsa and Bhaddanta Agga Dhamma. The Yangon Mayor and officials also presented  Kathina robes and offertories to the members of the Sangha. Then, Nyaungdon Sayadaw Bhaddanta  Osadhabhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained for the pious deeds. After the  ceremony, the Secretary-1 and wife offered soon to members of the Sangha.



(4) Prizes presented to Shwekya Thingan weaving contest winners 
 
YANGON, 10 Nov- The prize presentation ceremony for weaving Shwekya Thingan was held at the fifth  Buddha Pujaniya of Tooth Relic Pagoda (Yangon) on Dhammapala Hill in Mayangon Township at 5 am today,  attended by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and  Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than.
 
Also present on the occasion were Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, officials, Chairman of  Organizing Sub-committee for Weaving Shwekyar Thingan Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and  Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein and members, officials, secretaries of Division, District and  Township Union Solidarity and Development Associations, members of Board of Judges
and guests.
 
Staff Officer Daw Than Than Win of Myanma Radio and Television acted as master of ceremonies. Minister U  Aung Khin and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko presented gifts and certificates of honour to second  and third prize winners Thuseikta Loom of Yangon West District and Gawtami Loom of Yangon East District  respectively. Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than presented gift and
a certificates of honour to first prize  winner Meidaw Maryar Loom of Yangon Division USDA. Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa presented cash prizes to  first, second and third prize winners. Then, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint and Sub-committee  Chairman Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein presented prizes and gifts to consolation prize winning looms and  officials. Later, the looms conveyed their Shwekyar Thingans round the pagodas.



(5)  Yangon observes Tazaungdine festival in accord with religious tradition
 
YANGON, 10 Nov - From dawn to evening, the pagodas and monasteries in Yangon were crowded with  Buddhists doing pious deeds, taking Sabbath, practising vipassana or meditation and offering mathothingan,  flowers, water, lights and incense to the Buddha today, the Tazaungmon Fullmoon Day.
 
Shwedagon Sabei team of Aungsetkya Religious Association won the first prize in the mathothingan weaving  contest of Shwedagon Pagoda. Myintzuthaka team won the second prize, and Myatlay team, third. Chairman  of Work Committee for All-round Perpetual Renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda Deputy Commander of Yangon  Command Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint and members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees presented prizes to all the  participating teams this morning. The contest was held at the Aungmye at Yahu corner on the pagoda  platform. It began yesterday evening. The mathothingans woven by the
participating teams were offered to  the Buddha images at the pagoda.
 
A ceremony to share merits gained for offering the mathothingan was held at ancient Buddha images tazaung  at the southern archway on the pagoda platform at 6 am. The congregation received the Five Precepts from  the Shwedagon Ovadacariya Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Rajindabhivamsa. The devotees then  presented offertories to the Sayadaws. Merits gained were then shared.
 
Botahtaung Pagoda
 
The mathothingan woven by the ten participating teams were offered to the Buddha images at Botahtaung  Pagoda this morning. Members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees presented cash awards to the winning  teams and all the participating teams in the mathothingan weaving contest.
 
Members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees and wellwishers also presented cash donations to members of  the Sangha. At Botahtaung Kyaikdehsat SandawU Pagoda, devotees offered flowers, water and lights, made  donations and meditated. Monks and devotees also went to Mindhamma Hill on
Mindhamma Street in Insein  Township and paid homage to Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image.
 
At Mailamu Pagoda in North Okkalapa Township, the seventh Shwekya Mathothingan Weaving Contest was  held.
 
At Aparajita Hsandawshin Kyaikwaing Pagoda in Mayangon Township, the pagoda board of trustees offered  soon and 9,000-candle lights to the pagoda. The prize-presentation ceremony for the 11th Matho Shwekya  Thingan Weaving Contest and Shwekya Thingan-offering ceremony was held at
Shwephonepwint Pagoda in  Pazundaung Township.
 
Devotees crowded Sule Pagoda today and they offered flowers, water, lights and fruit to the pagoda.  Defence Services Records Office held its 15th communal Kathina ceremony this morning. Present were  Sayadaw of Waikzawdaya Kyaungtaik and members of the Sangha, Commandant of Defence Services  Records Office Commander of No 4 Military Region Command Brig-Gen Myo Myint and wife Dr Daw Thi Thi  Aye, officials and their wives, guests and the rank and file and their families. At the 108-taung  Maha Bodhi  Swedawshin Pagoda, the pagoda board of trustees held the 36th Tazaungdine Light Festival and Shwekya  Thingan offering ceremony.
 
The soon offering association of Yanmyoaung Dhammayon at Panhlaing Housing Estate in Panhlaing Ward,  Kyimyindine Township, held the fifth Saryedanmepwe and the rice-offering ceremony. The Ministry of  Commerce held the second Kathina robes offering ceremony of Tekkathila Mahazeya
Theiddipahtan  Kyaungtaik. Present were Presiding Sayadaw of Tekkathila Mahazeya Theiddipahtan Kyaungtaik Sulabhadda  Vacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Kovida and members of the Sangha, Daw Aye Pyi Wai Khin, wife of Minister for  Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Daw Kyi Kyi Win, wife of Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, advisers, the  directors-general and the deputy directors-general and guests.
Shopkeepers of Theingyi Market (C-complex)  held the fifth Kathina ceremony. Shopkeepers of Central Open Market also held the second Kathina  ceremony. The Dhammapuja for Samanaphala Day, organized by the Board of Trustees of Thiri Mingala  Kaba Aye Pagoda, was held at the prayer hall of
the pagoda this morning. Member of the Pagoda Board of  Trustees U Sein Oo supplicated on Samannaphala Day. The congregation recited verses and Desana on  Samannaphala. Likewise, a 600 trainee led by Head of the 18th Year Cultural Course Agga Maha Saddhamma  Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta
Pannasami (Magadi-Thazi) observed the Samannaphala Day at Maha Ordination Hall on  Fullmoon Day of Tanzaungmon. They read out on the Samanaphala Day and recited attributes of the  Sangha.
 
A ceremony to offer Kathina robes to members of the Sangha from 38 monasteries of Bagaya Monastery  Group was held at the platform of Koedatgyi Pagoda this afternoon. Well-wishers donated Kathina robes to  Presiding Nayaka of Bagaya Monastery Group Management Board Aungmingala
Kyarkyaung Sayadaw  Bhaddantaariya and over 700 members of the Sangha. Sayadaw Bhaddanta sariya administered the Nine  Precepts. Then, well-wishers donated cash towards the funds of gilding the pagoda to Chairman of Yangon  West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung
Maung Shein and officials.
 
The 21st Shwekyar Thingan (Matho Thingan) Weaving Competition was held at Kyaikkasan Pagoda in
Thingangyun Township this morning. Then, members of Pagoda Board of Trustees offered the Thingans at  Buddha images. At Maha Theindawgyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Pabedan Township, the communal Kathina robes  offering ceremony was held. The congregation offered Kathina robes and
provisions to the Chairman of the  State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee and members of the Sangha.

Coord meeting on 47th Myanmar Medical Conference held
 
YANGON, 10 Nov- A coordination meeting on the 47th Myanmar Medical Conference to be organized
by  Myanmar Medical Association (Mandalay) was held at the hall of MMA (Mandalay) on 5  November, attended  by Chairman of MMA (Central) Rector of Yangon Institute of Medicine-1 Professor U Myo Myint. Also present  on the occasion were Chairman of MMA (Mandalay) Professor
U Ko Lay, Vice-Chairman-1 Professor U Soe  Tun, Vice-Chairman-2 Professor U Maung Maung, Vice-
Chairman-3 Professor Daw Soe Soe Aye and  officials.
 
At first, Professor U Ko Lay gave a speech. Then, MMA (Central) Chairman Professor U Myo Myint recounted  the experience of the previous conference and gave instructions on future tasks. Afterwards, the Chairman  (Central) inspected the three-storey building under construction. The Myanmar Medical Conference will be  held at MMA (Mandalay) from 19 to 23 January 2001. The conference will include
paper-reading sessions,  seminars, medicine and medical equipment exhibitions, sports tournaments and excursions. Physicians in the  nation may register to attend the conference beginning 14 January 2001.
 
Central Committee for Conveying South-East Asia Anti-Tobacco Flame into Myanmar meets
 
YANGON, 10 Nov-The Central Committee for Conveying South-East Asia Anti Tobacco Flame into Myanmar held  its third meeting in the meeting hall of the National Health Committee of the Ministry of Health on Pyidaungsu  Yeiktha Street in Ahlon Township yesterday evening. Present were Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein and  Deputy Ministers Professor Dr Mya Oo and Professor Dr Kyaw Myint,
officials of the Ministry of Health,  members of the central committee and guests.
 
Secretary of Welcoming and Conveying Subcommittee Director of Health Department (Public Health) Dr Htay  Lwin reported on arrangements to convey the flame and progress of work, and Secretary of  Information and  Organizing Subcommittee Director of Health Planning Department (Health Education) Dr Khin Than Oo on work  done by the sub Committee. Officials also reported on their work.
 
The minister said that the conveying of the anti-tobacco flame is part of the anti-tobacco movement of the  World Health Organization, and it is also an activity arranged by the National Health Committee. He thanked  officials who are actively participating in the activity and urged all to work in accord with the plans.
 
South-East Asia Anti-Tobacco Flame will be conveyed from Maldives to Myanmar on 15 December 2000. The  flame will stop at four districts in Yangon Division. At that time, Myanma Radio and Television and Myawady  TV will broadcast anti-tobacco programmes.

Chairperson of MWEA meets Japanese guests
 
YANGON, 10 Nov-Director of International Women's Education Association of Japan Ms Higashi Masa and party  paid a courtesy call on Chairperson of Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs Association Daw Sein Sein,  Adviser Daw Yee Yee Myint, Daw Khin Aye Win, Secretary Daw Nu Nu Yee and  executives at the  association this afternoon.

Work Committee for Myanma Costumes Show meets
 
YANGON, 10 Nov-The third meeting of Work Committee for Myanma Costumes Show to be sponsored by the  Ministry of Culture, was held at the meeting hall of the ministry at noon today, with an address by Work  Committee Chairman Rector of the University of Culture (Yangon) U Tin Soe.
 
Also present on the occasion were Deputy Director-General of Fine Arts Department U Ba Hsan, directors,  deputy directors of departments under the ministry, pro-rectors of universities of culture (Yangon/Mandalay),  professors, heads of department, the registrar, lecturers and assistant lecturers. Tasks, billboards on the  show, designation of the logo, organizational work for the show, the renting of costumes, and modes of  dress of different periods were discussed. Myanmar delegation leaves for China
 
YANGON, 10 Nov-Under the leadership of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and  Industry, a 34-member delegation led by Chairman U Aung Lwin of Myanmar Forest Products and Timber  Merchants Association left here by air this morning to visit the wood-based products exhibitions and to  observe export pro motion related to the timber, seeking of the market and
industries in Shanghai, Beijing and  Fuzhou regions in the People's Republic of China from 10 to 23 November. Officials saw the delegation off at  Yangon International Airport.



(7) Commander inspects special vegetable production and poultry farming zone
 
YANGON, 10 Nov - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division
Peace  and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than visited the special  vegetable production and poultry farming zone of Yangon Division at Nyaunghnapin village near Hsatthwataw  village in Hmawby Township, Yangon North District, this afternoon.
 
On arrival at the special zone, the commander was welcomed by the chairman of the special zone  supervisory committee and members. The commander inspected vegetable patches established by national  entrepreneurs and ministries, the condition of roads and land reclamation work in the zone by
car.  Afterwards, the commander inspected construction of Kyagansu-Ngasutaung Road being undertaken by the  Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs.
 
Director-General of Development Affairs Department Col Myo Myint reported on progress in construction of  roads. The commander gave instructions. Kyagansu-Ngasutaung Road starting from the top of No 3 Highway,  is 9 miles 3 furlongs long. The commander also inspected earth work for
establishment of the tax-free market  at the corner of No 3 Highway and Yangon-Bago Highway, and gave instructions on the work. At the special  vegetable production and poultry farming zone of Yangon Division, cultivation work will be carried out on  1,425 acres of land. So far, cultivation work has been done on 1,380 acres.



(8)  Myanmar delegation arrives back 
 
YANGON, 10 Nov- A Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing arrive back here by air  this evening after paying a goodwill visit to India.
 
The minister and party were welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Foreign Affairs U  Win. Aung, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj  Gen Soe Win, officials of the Indian Embassy, heads of departments under the ministry and family members.  Delegation members Director-General U Aung Thein of General Administration Department and Head of  CCDAC and Narcotic Drugs Eradication Department Police Col Kham Aung also arrived back.
  

(9) 9 Ngaphe Township NLD members resign of own accord
 
YANGON, 10 Nov-Nine members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Ngaphe Township,  Magway Division. Nine members of Ngaphe Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own accord, resigned  by sending letters of resignation to Ngaphe Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-committee  and the party concerned on 22 May 2000 as they no longer wished to
participate in party politics of NLD.
