YANGON, 4 Nov - The 47th communal Kathina robes offering ceremony of the families of the Ministry of Defence was held at the new hall of the Ministry of Defence this morning. Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing attended it and offered alms to the Sayadaws.
Also present at the ceremony were Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Maha Aungmyaybonsan Kyaungtaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pannindabhivamsa and member Sayadaws, the Chairman Sayadaw of Yangon Division Sangha Nayaka Committee, the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha of Alanpya Kyaungtaik, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe, Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, members of the State Peace and Development Council, the Deputy Prime Ministers, the ministers, the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General, Auditor-General the Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board, the Yangon Mayor and their wives, directors of the Offices Departments of the Ministry of Defence and their wives, senior military officers and their wives, and guests.
The ceremony was opened with three-time recitation of the gatha starting with Namotassa. Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Gawthitayama Kyaungtaik Dawei Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Acinnanbhivamsa invested the congregation headed by Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing with the Five Precepts.
Afterwards, the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha recited parittas. Later, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing offered robes and alms to the Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Maha Aungmyaybonsan Kyaungtaik Sayadaw.
Next, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the OSS Director of DDSI Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe, Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, and other dignitaries offered alms to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha. Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Maha Aungmyaybonsan Kyaungtaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pannindabhivamsa delivered a sermon. The congregation headed by Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing then shared merits for the pious deeds, and the ceremony came to a close with the three-time recitation of Buddha sasanam ciram tithatu. Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, and dignitaries offered "soon" to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha. The families of the Ministry of Defence donated padethabins worth over K 3.4 million at the 47th communal Kathina.

(2) Tatmadaw families, wellwishers offer provisions to Maha Theindawgyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Pabedan
YANGON, 4 Nov- Families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and wellwishers offered rice, edible oil, salt, medicine and cash to Maha Theindawgyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Pabedan Township, Yangon West District, this afternoon, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Also present on the occasion were officials and wellwishers. Presiding Nayaka of the Sarthintaik Agga Maha Ganthavaaka Pandita Bhaddanta Kumara administered the Five Precepts. Then, the Chief of Staff (Army) offered provisions to the Sayadaw. Similarly, the deputy ministers, the vice-mayor and officials donated offertories to members of the Sangha. Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Chief of Staff (Navy) Capt. Soe Thein and Colonel Air Staff (Mechanical) Lt.-Col Ye Chit Pe presented rice donated by Tatmadaw families to the Presiding Nayaka Sayadaw.
Wellwishers also offered 78 bags of rice, 60 viss of edible oil, 100 bottles of iodized salt, 10 tubes of tooth paste, 400 bottles of indigenous medicine and 12 dozens of exercise books to Sayadaws, and K 256,050 to the deputy ministers and the vice-mayor. Director of Resettlement Brig-Gen Aung Thein supplicated on the purpose of the donations. Afterwards, the Presiding Nayaka Sayadaw delivered a sermon, and the Secretary-2 and party and well-wishers shared merits gained.

(3) 10th Day of Eighth Myanma Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions held
YANGON, 4 Nov- The Eighth Myanma Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions continued for the 10th day at designated four venues today. The singing competition continued at the National Museum on Pyay Road, the song composing competition at Kanbawza Theatre on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road and the music competition at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street and Padomma Theatre on Bagaya Road.
Present on the occasions were Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, members of the Panel of Patrons Chairman of the Leading Committee members, officials of the Sub-committees, departmental officials and people.
At the National Museum, altogether 16 persons of States and Divisions took part in the amateur level (ladies') Maha Gita contest and 14 in the basic education level (10-15 age group) (boys') religious song contest. Chairman of Board of Judges Daw Tin Tin Mya and party supervised the competition.
On 5 November, the higher education level (women's) Maha Gita contest and the basic education level (15-20 age group) (boys') religious song contest will be held at the same venue. At Kanbawza Theatre, 16 students of States and Divisions took part in the basic education level (15-20 age group) song composing contest with "Myanma Ahman" song and six in the basic education level (5-10 age group) song composing contest with "Doh Yihmanchet" song. Chairman of the Board of Judges Bogale Tint Aung and party supervised the contests.
On 5 November, contestants of the higher education level and the basic education level (10-15 age group) will take part in the song composing competition at Kanbawza Theatre. At Padomma Theatre, nine students took part in the basic education level (15-20 age group) (boys') piano contest and six schoolgirls in the basic education level (10-15 age group) (girls') piano contest. On 5 November, the basic education level (5-10 age group) (boys') piano contest and the amateur level (women's) piano contest will be held at the same venue.
At Padomma Theatre, nine students of States and Divisions participated in the basic education level (10-15 age group) (boys') solo orchestra contest and eight in the basic education level (5-10 age group) (boys') solo orchestra contest. Chairman of the Board of Judges Gitalulin U Ko Ko and party supervised the competition. On 5 November, the amateur level (men's) orchestra troupe contest and the basic education level (10-15 age group) (boys') orchestra troupe will be held.

(4) Myanmar goodwill delegation visits PRC
YANGON, 4 Nov-For cooperation and further strengthening of bilateral friendly relations between the Union of Myanmar and the People's Republic of China, Myanmar delegation led by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint left here on 25 October to pay an official goodwill visit to the PRC at the invitation of Chairman of Chinese Association for International Understanding and Vice-Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Mr Li Guixiam.
The Secretary-3 and party arrived in Beijing in the evening. Members of the delegation were CEC member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung and Deputy Minister for Industry-2 Brig-Gen Aung Thein Linn. Myanmar goodwill delegation arrived at Kunming Airport in Yunnan Province at 4 p.m. local time.
The delegation was welcomed by Director of Foreign Affairs Department of Yunnan Province Government Mr Gan Da Kaung and officials, Consul U Thein Zaw of Consulate-General in Kunming and officials. The Secretary-3 and party stopped over at the special lounge of Kunming Airport and met Mr Gan Da Kaung. They discussed ensuring smooth running of border trade. The Secretary-3 and party left Kunming at 6.45 p.m. local time and arrived at Beijing International Airport at 9.10 p.m. on 25 October. The Secretary-3 and party were welcomed by member of Central Committee of Chinese Communist Party Deputy Minister for International Relations Department Senior Adviser to Chinese Association for International Understanding Mr Ma Wenpu and members, Myanmar Ambassador U Ba Htay Chit and Military Attaché Col Sein Gyawt.
The Secretary-3 and party spent the night at Kerry Center Hotel in Beijing. On 26 October, members of the delegation arrived at Zhong Guan Cun Science and Technology Centre. Deputy Director Dr Xia Ying Qi reported on establishment of the centre and future tasks. They then toured the centre.
The delegation met Vice-Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Chairman of Chinese Association for International Understanding Mr Li Guixiam at the People's Hall. Present were member of Central Committee of Chinese Communist Party Deputy Minister for International Relations Department Senior Adviser to Chinese Association for International Understanding Mr Ma Wenpu, Deputy General Secretary of International Relations Department of the PRC executive committee member of Chinese Association for International Understanding Mrs Qiu Yuanping, Senior Advisers Mr Wu Shumin, Mrs Ma Lanzhen and Mr Shang Wansheng, senior officials, Myanmar Ambassador U Ba Htay Chit and Counsellor U Tin Htut.
They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, mutual cooperation between the Union Solidarity and Development Association and Chinese Association for International Understanding and cooperation in agricultural techniques, science and technology and border trade.
The Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and Chairman Mr Li Guixiam signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the USDA and Chinese Association for International Understanding and exchanged it. Chairman Mr Li Guixiam hosted luncheon in honour of Myanmar delegation at the People's Hall. In the afternoon, the delegation met member of Polibureau of Communist Party of the PRC Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Mr Li Ruihuan at the People's Hall and discussed bilateral goodwill relations and cooperation. Present were Myanmar Ambassador U Ba Htay Chit and Counsellor U Tin Htut, senior officials Mr Ma Wen Pu, Mrs Qim Yuan Ding, Mr Wu Shumin, Mr Yang Wenhua, Mr Ma Lanzhen and Mr You Yuan Lai. Members of the delegation arrived at the Kyaungdaw where the Buddha's Tooth Relic was kept and paid respects to Venerable Jhan Zhan.
They presented cash and offertories to him. They observed Kyaungdaw where Buddha images are to be kept and throne donated by Myanmar. The delegation led by the Secretary-3 met State Councillor of the PRC Mr Ismail Ahmed in Beijing. Present were Myanmar Ambassador U Ba Htay Chit and Counsellor U Tin Htut, senior officials Mr Ma Wen Pu, Mr Wu Shumin, Mr Ma Lanzhen, Mr Shan Wansheng and Mrs Qim Yuan Ding. The Secretary-3 and State Councillor Mr Ismail Ahmed discussed bilateral goodwill relations and cooperation. State Councillor Mr Ismail Ahmed hosted dinner in honour of the members of the delegation.
On 27 October, the delegation met Chairman of All China Youth Federation Mr Ba Yin Chaolu. Cooperation between All China Youth Federation and USDA was discussed. Next, the Secretary-3 and Chairman Mr Ba Yin Chaolu signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between All China Youth Federation and USDA. Members of the delegation led by the Secretary-3 visited the Great Wall. The Secretary-3 and members called on Vice-President of the PRC Mr Hu Jin Tao at the People's Hall. The Secretary-3 and Vice-President of the PRC Mr Hu Jin Tao said Myanmar and the PPRC are neighbouring countries bordering about 1,300 miles and the two countries lived together as good neighbouring nations in ancient times. Myanmar-China goodwill relations improved significantly during 50 years. There were great changes in international and internal situations during recent century. But bilateral goodwill relations remain unchanged and have improved. The two countries are determined to carry out bilateral cooperation.
Also present together with Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint were ministers, deputy ministers, Myanmar Ambassador U Ba Htay Chit, Counsellor U Tin Htut, and together with Mr Hu Jin Tao were senior officers Mr Ma Wen Pu, Mr Wu Shumin, Mrs Qin Yuan Ding, Mr Ma Lanzhen and Mr Shan Wan Sheng. After the discussion, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and party left by car for Imperial Palace where they observed ancient world culture. In the evening, Myanmar students who are studying in PRC met and paid respects to Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint who gave counsel to them. On 28 October morning, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint met with Ambassador U Ba Htay Chit, Military Attaché Col Sein George and embassy staff at the Myanmar Embassy to PRC and gave instructions. The Myanmar delegation and party proceeded to Forbidden City Ancient Palace and Tiamin Square where they were conducted round by officials. The Secretary-3 signed in the visitors' book.
In the evening, Myanmar delegation left by air for Xian in Shaan Xi Province. They were seen off at the airport by Senior Adviser Mr Wen Pu and Military Attaché Col Sein George. Those accompanied by Myanmar delegation were Senior Adviser and Director-General Mr Wu Shumin, Mr Kao Wan Sheng, Mr Lu Heu Sheng, Director of Public Security Col Shan Wen Seng, Myanmar Ambassador U Ba Htay Chit and Counsellor U Tin Htut.

(5) Minister apprises Asia-Pacific Summit on Information Society of Myanmar's improvements in telecoms sector
YANGON, 4 Nov - At the invitation of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity, a Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin attended the Asia-Pacific Summit on the Information Society in Tokyo, Japan, from 31 October to 2 November. The Myanmar delegation arrived in Tokyo on 30 October. On 31 October, they studied the industries of Fujitsu Limited, and the minister, together with Deputy General Manager U Tun Aung, attended the Senior Officers Meeting.
Together with his counterparts from various nations, Minister Brig-Gen Win Tin studied IT services at Fuji Television. At the Summit held on 1 and 2 November, ministers from various countries made speeches. On 2 November, Myanmar delegation leader Minister Brig-Gen Win Tin made a speech. He said: "We are now entering into a world which is undergoing another revolution in technology, as fundamental changes are taking place at a tremendous speed in the communication and information industries. This revolution will have far-reaching implication on the economic and social situation of all countries of the world. It is widely recognized that these rapid advances in information technology will no doubt give great stimulation to the economic growth and development. However, these opportunities cannot be expected for the developing countries which do not have adequate resources and infrastructure to gain access to these new technologies. Therefore the information revolution could further widen the gap between the developed and developing world. Thus concerted efforts should be made by the international community to narrow this digital gap so that all countries can benefit from the information revolution.
" In this regard, we are encouraged to learn that the need to address this challenge was highlighted at the recent G-8 Kyushu Okinawa Summit, where this important global issue of information technology (IT) has been discussed and some positive steps have been taken to bridge the " Digital Divide" . "This Regional Summit provides us with the opportunity to share experiences among member countries regarding their efforts to harness the information technology for their integration into the global knowledge-based economy. Taking this opportunity, may I briefly apprise the Meeting of our national efforts for improvements in the telecommunication sector in our own country.
"Myanmar is basically an agricultural country, covering an area of 678,000 sq.-km, and having a population of 50.12 million. With this vast potential of land for agriculture and abundant labour forces, we are giving priority to boosting agriculture production through substitution of conventional cultivation methods with modern scientific techniques, and construction of dams, reservoirs, bridges, and roads. At the same time, we are fully aware that in this information age, telecommunication sector plays an important role in the building of economic, institutional and social infrastructure. In order to catch up with the information age, we are exerting efforts to raise the level of education by giving priority to the establishment of multimedia teaching facilities at all schools at various levels.
"Since late 1988, Myanmar has adopted a market-oriented economy and concerted efforts have been made for the all-round development of Myanmar's economy. When the present government took over the State responsibility in 1988, the country's economy was in bad shape, with negative GDP growth for three consecutive years from 1986-87 to 1988-89. Reform measures were taken and within two years, we managed to stabilize the economy. The economic development of the country has resulted in a remarkable improvement also in the telecommunication sector. In 1988, the number of telephone subscribers was only 67,016, connected to 212 manual exchanges and 33 auto-exchanges. At the end of 1999-2000 fiscal year, the number of subscribers has increased to 249,083 connected to 443 manual exchanges and 96 auto-exchanges. The telephone penetration per 100 population is 3.57 and 2.27 for Yangon and Mandalay cities respectively. Yet, the telephone penetration remains low at 0.51 for the whole country. Direct-distance dealing service has been greatly improved with the addition of digital microwave backbones and radio spur routes. International direct dealing service became available with the establishment in 1994 of the Standard A earth station, and a new international gateway/transit telephone exchange,
Whereas international phone calls totalled Incoming 2 million minutes and Outgoing 0.79 million minutes in 1988, the traffic has increased to Incoming 50 million minutes and Outgoing 18 million minutes in 1999. We are now conducting system tests to utilize traffic channels from 10,000 circuits, allotted in SEA-ME-WE 3 fibre optical submarine cable.
At present there are 30,000 TDMA/CDMA cellular subscribers in Yangon and Mandalay cities. On-going GMS project will add 70,000 and 30,000 capacity in Yangon and Mandalay respectively. "Regarding Internet services, we have attained responsibility for Country Code Top Level Domain 'ccTLD:mm', and have started with Internet E-mail service for the general public. There are only about 2,500 users and expansions is being carried out to give more connections. Web surfing is currently provided to governmental and educational departments and some computer organizations. A packet switching system is providing (X.25) data service in Yangon and Mandalay. "Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) under my Ministry, through a government entity, operates services on a commercial basis maintaining a commercial accounting system. Works in recent years have been successfully carried out, not only with governmental budget and loans, but also with contribution funds raised by on communities on self-supporting basis. A separate regulatory authority exists under my Ministry, headed by the Director-General. "
In the absence of financial cooperation from major multilateral and bilateral donors including the World Bank and IMF, Myanmar has been managing its development needs, relying mainly on its own financial resources. Although considerable Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) from external resources are being attracted to the telecommunication sector. We still have financial constraints in our endeavour for further development of the communication industry in our country. The government's main objective is to keep stability while building form foundations for well-balanced long run sustained growth in all sectors.
I have briefly presented the status of telecommunication sector in the Union of Myanmar. No doubt, there will be changes or rather developments in future. After all, the globalizations advances created by IT revolution is transforming the way we communicate, deal with information, educate, commerce, provide health care and even the way we run administrations. With regards to technological trends, tariff restructuring and regulatory reform, we are moving in line with ASEAN family vision and implementation programme.
In fact, all participants at this Summit are fully aware of the potential of the IT revolution to transform social system. Information Technology (IT), should be utilized as a tool to bridge the gaps in society, not to create new ones, if we are to create a better and fairer world. In this regard, the recent formulation by the Japanese government of a comprehensive cooperation package to address the issue of Digital Divide is the kind of valuable step in the right direction.
In conclusion, he stated that Myanmar will continue to work closely with the ASEAN nations and the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity for harmonized implementation in the regions of Action Plans. He hoped that the endeavour of the developing countries to bridge the digital divide will be matched with meaningful assistance from the developed nations and international community. The minister signed the Tokyo Declaration and Action Plan. Myanmar delegation arrived back in Yangon yesterday. They were welcomed back by Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, departmental heads, and their families.

Myanmar delegation arrives back
YANGON, 4 Nov-Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone arrived back here by air yesterday evening after visiting Republic of Korea at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade ROK Mr Hun Duc-Soo. The delegation was welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, ROK Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Chung Jung Gum, departmental officials and family members of the delegates. Members of delegation Director-General U Nyunt Aye of Directorate of Trade and Joint General Secretary U Pyone Maung Maung of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry arrived back on the same flight.
Missionary group leaves for ROK
YANGON, 4 Nov-At the invitation of Chunte Buddhist Association, a missionary group led by Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nakaya Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara left here by air for Republic of Korea yesterday evening to attend the opening ceremony of the pagoda to be held at Dharan, ROK. The group was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko and officials.
ASEAN Delegates leave for home
YANGON, 4 Nov-Delegates who attended the Third ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth left here by air for home this morning and this afternoon. The delegates who left here today were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Hon Pehin Dato Haji Awang Hussain Mohd Muth of Brunei, Deputy Secretary Mr Tran Duc Minh of ASEAN Secretariat and delegates. The delegates were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Brunei Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Pengiran Dato Paduka Asmlee Ahmad and officials of Guest Scrutinizing Sub-committee for the meeting.

YANGON, 4 Nov- The annual prize presentation ceremony of Hindu Dharma Shiksha Samiti and 2000 Depavali Celebration were held at Golden Dragon Hall of Shwemala Yeikmon in Kamayut Township this evening. Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Aung Ko, Director-General U Sann Lwin of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana, Director-General Dr Myo Myint of Religious Affairs Department, Vice-Chairman of Hindu Dharma Shiksha Samiti U Kyi Min, Chairman of Sanatan Dharma Swaya-msevak Sangh U San Myint and officials. First, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko lit oil lamps and opened the ceremony. Celebration committee chairman Shri Bajranglal Sharma Ji (a) U Maung Maung explained facts about the celebration. Myanmar Wushu team wins four silver
YANGON, 4 Nov- Myanmar selected Wushu team has won four silver and six certificates of honour in the 5th Asian Wushu Championship being held in Hanoi of Vietnam from 31 October to date and the team continues to take part in the championship now. The certificate of honour was presented to the winning team which stood in positions 1 to 8. Wushu teams of China, Republic of Korea, Japan, Iran, Chinese (Taipei), Macau, Hong Kong, India, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and host Vietnam are taking part in the championship.
Myanmar Optimist Team Leaves for Malaysia
YANGON, 4 Nov-A six-member Myanmar Optimist Team led by Secretary U Soe Min Aung of ODAM left here for Malaysia by air on 2 November at the invitation of Malaysian Yachting Association to take part in 13th ASEAN Optimist Sailing Championship to be held in Kotakina Balu from 1 to 26 November and joint-training and competition programme. Myanmar team will participate in joint-training programme with selected athletes of Malaysian Optimist from 3 to 10 November. If there is a chance Myanmar team will take part in Malaysian National Optimist Championship in which a lot of Malaysian national selected sportsmen take part from 12 to 16 November. Out of the competition, Myanmar team will have a chance to test their ability and gain a lot of experience. Then, the team will participate in 13th ASEAN Optimist Sailing Championship to be held from 19 to 26 November.

Myanmar football team leaves for Thailand
YANGON, Nov 4-Myanmar football team left for Thailand by air this morning to take part in ASEAN Tiger Cup Football Tournament to be held in Chiangmai and Songkhala from 4 to 18 November. The team was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint. Myanmar team comprises the leader General Secretary of Myanmar Olympic Committee Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department Chairman of Myanmar Football Federation U Thaung Htaik, the deputy leader, five coaches, one medical officer, three journalists and 18 players.

(9) 25 KhinU Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 4 Nov-Twenty-five members resigned from the National League for Democracy of KhinU Township, Sagaing Division. Twenty-five members of KhinU Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to KhinU Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 19 January 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
