State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe sends felicitations to PRC

YANGON, 1 Oct- On the occasion of the fifty-first anniversary of the Founding Day of the People’s Republic of China, which falls on 1 October 2000, Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar, has sent messages of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Jiang Zemin, President of the People’s Republic of China, and to His Excellency Mr Zhu Rongji, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.

YANGON, 30 Sept-Special Refresher Course No 41 for Basic Education Teachers concluded at the Central Institute of Civil Service (Phaunggyi) in Hlegu Township, Yangon Division, this morning, with an address by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary- I of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said:

As is known to all, the government is systematically implementing education promotion programmes and youth nurturing programmes with the aim of training student youths of today to become human resources of quality who will strive for the modernization and development of the nation.  In conclusion, the Secretary-l urged all to strive for the emergence of a peaceful, modem and developed nation and successful implementation of education promotion programmes designed to develop human resources and to enable the Union to stand tall in the international community, to organize and train the youths while safeguarding against the danger of internal and external destructive elements attempting to disrupt stability, peace and tranquillity and development of the State and to create riots and to strive for the flourishing and propagation of Union Spirit and national solidarity, which are the true strengths necessary to repel political, economic and cultural infiltration of neo-colonialists and their lackeys.

Then, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented model trainee awards to senior assistant teacher U Maung Maung Lay of Okkan Basic Education High School, Taikgyi Township, Yangon Division, and junior assistant teacher Daw Cho San Lwin of Thadebin Basic Education Middle School in Hmawby Township, Yangon Division, and prizes to other trainees.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt accepted cash donations made by trainees which include K 10,000 for Konawin Pagoda, K 10,000 for construction of Dhammayon of Konawin Pagoda, K 10,000 for renovation of ancient pagodas, K 5,000 for fund of Union Solidarhy and Devekp ment Association K 10,600 for CICS Primary School and K10,000 for Phsnggyi BEHS. After the ceremony, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt cordially met with trainee teachers and left there.


(4) Secretary-l previews 2000 Mid-Year Myanma Gems Emporium

YANGON, 30 Sept- Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt previewed the 2000 Mid-Year Myanma Gems Emporium at Myanma Gems Mart on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this afternoon. The Secretary-l accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Counci1 Office arrived at the mart at 1.45 PM.

They were welcomed by Patron of Leading Committee for the 2000 Mid-Year Myanma Gems Emporium Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint and ministers, Chairman of the Leading Committee Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein and deputy ministers, Secretary of the Leading Committee Managing Director U Khin Oo of Myanma Gems Enterprise and members of the Leading Committee.  The Secretary-l and party inspected gem lots to be sold at fixed price, jewellery, jade figurines, gem painting shops and private gem shops which are on display on the ground floor, jade blocks mined from Htelone Sein and Samar mines and gems of the Union of Myanmar Economics Holdings Limited mined from Moegoke on display at the emporium and gem lots and pearl lots on display at the top floor of the emporium.

Minister Brig-Gen.Ohn. Myint, Deputy Minister U Myint Thein and Managing Director U Khin Oo conducted the Secretary-l and party round the emporium.  Then, the Secretary-l gave instruction to officials and left there at 2.30 PM.


(5) Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife attend PTA annual meeting of Dagon BEHS No 1

YANGON, 30 Sept- Annual meeting of Parent-Teacher Association of Basic Education High School No l in Dagon Township for 1999-2000 academic year was held at Dagon Thiri Hall of the school this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Patron of Parent-Teacher Association of BEHS No I Daw Khin Than Nwe. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe arrived at the school at 9 AM.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe were welcomed by the deputy ministers, the headmaster and teachers and chairman and members of the School Board of Trustees.  Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife and the deputy ministers inspected learning of students at the language lab (2), the domestic science room, the art room, the computer application media room, the language lab and the multi media teaching lab.

Then, the annual meeting of Parent-Teacher Association of Dagon BEHS No 1 and the prize presentation ceremony was held. Headmaster U Kyaw Kyaw and Chairman of the School Board of Trustees U Hla Tin spoke on the occasion.  Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo gave a speech. He said that Dagon Basic Education High School No 1 turned out outstanding students in Matriculation Examination for 1999-2000 academic year including two boy students and one girl student who stood in the tenth positions in the entire nation and 15 five-distinction winners students . Afterward, the prize presentation ceremony was held. . Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo presented prizes to Maung Htin Kyaw Lin, Maung Kyaw Myo Lwin- and Ma Nwe Lin Htet who stood tenth positions in the entire country in the Matriculation Examination for 1999-2000 academic year.

Patron of Parent-Teacher Association Dr Daw Hla Kyi presented K 50,000, Dr Hsan Win and teacher Daw San San May a scanner for the school and U Myo Hein-Daw Khin Cho and family K 1.5 million towards the school funds for the renovation of Bagan Pagoda No 753 to School Head U Kyaw Kyaw who presented certificates of honour to the donors.


(6) Offertories donated to Home for the Aged of nuns in Mingala Taungnyunt

YANGON, 30 Sept- Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and well wishers donated rice to Home for the Aged of nuns in Mingala Taungnyunt Township this morning.
Present on the occasion were Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, senior Tatmadaw officers of the Ministry of Defence, officials of the State Peace and
Development Council Office and department concerned, Chairman of Yangon East District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Aung Pyi and officials, wellwishers and older persons. Deputy Adjutant-General Col Ye Tun, General Staff Officer (Grade I) (Navy) Comdr. Than Htaik and Officiating Colonel General Staff (Mechanical) (Air) Lt-Col Ye Chit Pe presented rice donated by Tatmadaw families to Administrative Officer of the Home for the Aged Mother Louisa. Then, the Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe and family donated K 10,000 to Mother Louisa.

Afterwards, well-wishers presented provisions and cash to the Home. Sister Marry spoke words of thanks and Catholic Archbishop Gabriel Mahn Gaby and Father Edwin David blessed the gathering and brought the event to a close. After the ceremony, the Secretary-2 cordially conversed with the older persons. Today’s donations include 118 bags of rice, 40 viss of edible oil, 250 viss of iodized salt, 25 tubes of tooth paste, 1,254 bottles of traditional medicines and K 633,969 for 170 older persons of the Home for the Aged.


(7) Golden Jubilee of Danubyu BEHS to be observed

YANGON, 30 Sept- Union Solidarity and Development Association CEC member Minister for Immigration & Population U Saw Tun, accompanied by officials of the Ministry, arrived in Danubyu, Ayeyawady Division, this morning. He met Chairman of Maubin District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Thein Hlaing, township authorities, departmental officials, members of the Trustees’ Board of Danubyu Basic Education High School, PTA members, the School Head, teachers, town elders and students of the school.

Minister U Saw Tun gave instructions on holding the third ceremony to pay respect to the teachers and the golden jubilee anniversary of the school on a grand scale. Afterwards, the CEC member inspected preparations of variety dances, songs and playing of xylophone to be presented at the golden jubilee ceremony. Secretary of Danubyu Township Association (Yangon Branch) U Kyaw Yi took part in the discussions. Later, the CEC member gave instructions on prize presentation for outstanding students and holding of the ceremonies in cooperation with members of the School Board of Trustees and town elders.


(8) 25 members resign from Myittha Township NLD of own accord

YANGON, 30 Sept- Twenty-five members resigned of their own accord from the National League for Democracy of Myittha Township, Mandalay Division.  Twenty-five members of Myittha Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letter s of resignation to Myittha Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 10 July 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.


(9) Soe Kyaw Naing still leads in third round of Myanmar London Golf Tour

YANGON, 30 Sept- The 3rd-leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour 2000 2001, co-organized by Myanmar Golf Federation and Myanmar Professional Golfers’ Association and mainly sponsored by Rothmans of Pail Mall Myanmar Pte Ltd, continued for the third day at Lashio Golf ‘Club in Lashio, Shan State (North), this morning.

In the Amateur Division, Zaw Zaw Latt who tied with defending champion Min Naing in the first round put his position at the first place in the third round with 215 strokes. Zaw Paing Oo took the second position after shooting 7 strokes behind the leader with 222 and Yin Aung Latt in the third position with 224.  Second leg champion in the Amateur Division Min Naing played in the first round well. But Min Naing fired 225 strokes after shooting the third rounds.  In the Professional Division, first leg champion Soe Kyaw Naing was still leading in the first position after playing the third round totalling 207 strokes. He was still holding a good opportunity for winning the champion award for the Professional Division. Myint Thaung fired 211 stokes in the second position, Myint Shwe in the third position with 212 and second leg champion Aung Win in the fourth with 218.

The tour is aimed at turning out outstanding golfers and raising golf standard under the sponsorship of Tiger Beer, Yangon Airways, Canon, Star Cola and Wilson. Han Golf Masters Pte Ltd is organizing the tour.
