(1) Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image crowded with devoteesYANGON, 26 Sept- Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image on Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township, today was crowded with members of the Sangha, nuns and devotees. Workers of Public Works undertook the construction of the Gandakuti Kyaungdawgyi for Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image. Stone sculptor U Taw Taw and sons are shaping the image from morning to evening.
Wut associations of Kyaikkalawt Pagoda, Information and Public Relations Department, Yadana Beikman, Shwepyitha Township Upahtaka, Defence Services Children’s Hospital, Dhammajotika and Technological University yesterday recited the parittas in turn. Today, Kyaikkalawt Pagoda, Manawcitopat in Thingangyun Township, Dhammasayi in Thakayta, Shwepaukkan Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Myenigon Dhammayon and Religious Affairs Department wut associations recited the parittas in turn.
In the afternoon, Deputy General Manager of Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise U Thein Zaw and over 180 service personnel paid obeisance to the image and performed meritorious deeds. Donations by the public have amounted to K 61,979,100 from 5 August to date.
Buddhist delegation concludes ROK visit
YANGON, 26 Sept - Myanmar Buddhist delegation led by Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Sirindabhivamsa arrived back here by air this evening after completion of its missionary tour in the Republic of Korea.
The delegation was welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Sayadaws led by Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Acinnabhivamsa, Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, heads of department and officials.
(2) Secretary-2 attends cash donation ceremony for public welfare services
YANGON, 26 Sept-A ceremony to present cash for public welfare services being undertaken by Thanmyanthu Economic Enterprise was held at City Hall here this evening, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Staff (Army) Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Also present on the occasion were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, senior Tatmadaw officers, officials of Thanmyanthu Economic Enterprise and well-wishers.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo spoke words of thanks. Director of Resettlements Brig-Gen Aung Thein then explained welfare tasks being carried out by the enterprise. Well-wishers presented cash to the officials. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and ministers and officials who presented certificates of honour to donors. Then, Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa spoke words of thanks. Thanmyanthu Economic Group, Winyadana Transports Services and Lasanda Printing Ink and Paper Trading presented cash towards principals of Mary Charp Min School for Deaf, School for the Blind (Insein), School for the Blind (Kyimyindine), Disable Training Schools (Youth&Adult) on Kyaikwai Pagoda Road for the schools funds. After the ceremony, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo cordially greeted with wellwishers.
(3) Secretary-3 hosts dinner in honour of UDNR trainees
YANGON, 26 Sept- Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council member of the Panel of Patrons of the Union Solidarity and Development Association (Central) Lt-Gen Win Myint presented commemorative gifts to trainees of Primary Teachership Course No 32 of the University for Development of National Races and hosted a dinner in their honour at Mayhwa Restaurant on Shwedagon Pagoda Road at 7 PM today.
The Secretary-3 extended greetings. Then, the Secretary-3 presented gifts to the rector of the UDNR, supervisor teachers and trainees. On behalf of the trainees, Kayin national Ma Nant Myint Aye of Kya-In-Seik-Kyi Township, Kayin State, thanked the officials. Two trainees presented a commemorative pennant to Secretary-General of the USDA U Than Aung. Afterwards, dinner was served.

YANGON, 27 Sept - Dr Kyaw Win, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Denmark, presented his credentials to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II, Queen of Denmark on 19 September 2000, in Fredensborg.
(5) Eighth Meeting of ASEAN Sub-committee on Education concludes
YANGON, 26 Sept- The second and final day session of the Eighth Meeting of the ASEAN Sub-committee on Education (ASCOE) was held at Hotel Equatorial on Alanpya Pagoda today.
Chairman of the meeting was Dr Fe A Hidalgo of the Philippines, and Vice-Chairman, Director-General U Tin Nyo of the No 1 Basic Education Department. Present on the occasion were officials of the ASEAN Secretariat, delegates of the ten ASEAN nations and observers. The report of the Eighth ASCOE was discussed at the meeting which successfully ended at 11 am. Together with officials of the No 1 Basic Education Department, the delegates to the meeting visited Shwedagon Pagoda.
In the afternoon, they visited No 1 Basic Education Middle School and No 1 Basic Education High School in Dagon Township. On arrival at the schools, they were welcomed by the school heads, teachers and students of the respective schools. They were conducted around the multimedia teaching centres of the schools by the teachers of the respective schools. During their visit to the University of Foreign Languages and Yangon University, they were conducted around by the respective rectors and faculty members.
Lao Women’s delegation visits MMCWA and Women’s Development Centre
YANGON, 26 Sept-Chairperson Madame Onechanh Thammavong of Women’s Federation of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and party, currently here at the invitation of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, arrived at MMCWA at the corner of Parami Road and Thanthuma Road in South-Okkalapa Township this morning.
Chairperson Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe explained facts about the association. Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe explained the activities of the association.
Then, they discussed matters related to works of the two associations between Myanmar and Laos. Chairperson Madame Onechanh Thammavong spoke on the occasion.
Then, Chairperson Madame Onechanh Thammavong presented souvenir gifts and signed in the visitors’ book. Afterwards, Lao Women’s Federation members viewed the child development centre, Youth programmes and various courses at the MMCWA and left there. In the afternoon, Lao women’s delegation members arrived at Women’s Development Centre on Thanlwin Street in Kamayut Township.
Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar National Work Committee for Women’s Affairs Daw May May Yi explained facts about the development centre and Committee member Professor Daw Khin Aye Win on the committee for women’s affairs.
Then, they discussed women’s affairs and exchanged souvenir gifts. Chairperson Madame Onechanh Thammavong and party inspected jewellery work, sewing and weaving works and shop at the development centre and left there. The CEC of MMCWA hosted dinner in honour of Lao women’s delegation at Karaweik Palace.
UDNR trainees visit Myawady TV, Ngamoeyeik Dam, poultry farms
YANGON, 26 Sept- Trainees of Primary Teachership Course No 32 of the University for Development of National Races, accompanied by Rector Col Zaw Min Thein, Pro-Rector Daw Khin Si Si, supervisor teachers and officials of the Reception and Accommodation Sub-committee, arrived at Myawady TV Production Unit at 8 am today.
At No 1 Studio, Commandant of the unit Lt-Col Chit Swe extended greetings to the trainees and explained functions of the unit. On behalf of the trainees, two girl trainees presented the commemorative pennant to the commandant and a trainee spoke words of thanks. Then, officials conducted them round the unit.
After that, they arrived at Central Institute of Civil Service. At Ohndaw Hall, Rector U Myint Swe extended greetings to the trainees and explained facts about the CICS. Next, Rector Col Zaw Min Thein and Rector U Myint Swe exchanged commemorative pennants.
The trainees then visited the computer room of the institute. At Ngamoeyeik Dam, Director of Irrigation Department (Yangon Division) U Tin Maung Win greeted them and explained facts about the Ngamoeyeik Dam. Then, the director and two trainees exchanged commemorative pennants. The study group observed the sluice gate and spillway gate of the dam.
Afterwards, they proceeded to Htaukkyant Poultry Farm of the Production Unit of Yangon City Development Committee. Deputy Producer Maj Tin Tun Win who is in-charge of the Unit explained about the farm. Next, Producer Maj Tin Pe conducted them round the farm. At No 1 Poultry Farm of Yangon Command, Staff Officer (Grade-I) (Q) of Yangon Command Lt-Col Thein Hsint greeted them and Maj Ko Ko Aung who is in-charge of the farm explained tasks for the fowl breeding. Then, they exchanged commemorative pennants. Lt-Col Thein Hsint and Maj Ko Ko Aung presented gifts to the trainees. Later, the trainees visited the No 1 Poultry Farm of Yangon Command.
Minister for Industry-2 visits Indagaw Industrial Region YANGON, 26 Sept-Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin arrived at Indagaw Industrial Region of the Ministry of Industry-2 in Bago Division yesterday and inspected the placement of 263 boxes of machinery imported from China for Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries.
T he managing director and officials reported on the purchase, arrival and placement of machinery, and plans for installation to the minister. Then, the minister inspected the machinery placed at Radiator Workshop, Metal Bearing Workshop and Disc Wheel Workshop and left necessary instructions.
UMFCCI Chairman meets Ambassador of Pakistan
YANGON, 25 Sept -Ambassador of Pakistan to Myanmar Mr Mian Yusuf Shah called on Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry U Win Myint and General Secretary U Zaw Min Win at the UMFCCI Head Office here this morning. They discussed matters on promotion of trade and investment between the two countries.
Likewise, Bengal Fine Ceramics Ltd and Everest Fine Porcelain Ltd Chairman Mr R Maksud Khan and party of Bangladesh called on UMFCCI General Secretary U Zaw Min Win and Joint General Secretary U Pyone Maung Maung at the UMFCCI Head Office at noon today. They discussed matters relating to border trade and invitation to ICC Asia Conference to be held on 10 November 2000.
1474th Prophet Day observed
YANGON, 26 Sept- The Prophet Day Celebration Central Committee held the 1474th Prophet Day at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street on 24 September morning, with an address by Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin. Chairman of the celebration U Tint Swe (Thazin Tint Swe) gave a speech and writer Daw Baby Myint (Shwebo Thiri Marlar) read the message sent by Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association. Then, retired ambassador U Hla Maung and U Aye Lwin gave lectures on the Prophet and Islam social affairs and the existence of Prophet Mohammad. Officials of Muslim Group, Youth Muslim Group and Tharika Group also talked about the Prophet Mohammad. Present on the occasion were over 700 Muslim faiths.
Cash donated to Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association
YANGON, 26 Sept-As a memorial to mark the tenth anniversary of the demise of late Saya Zawgyi (U Thein Han), his wife Sayamagyi Daw Saw Yin and daughters Dr Khin Myo Han, Dr Khin Hla Han, Dr Khin Ohn Han and grandchild Ma Hla Yin Min donated 100,000 kyats to the fund of Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association this afternoon..
The cash donation ceremony held at the MJWA head office at Sarpay Beikman on Merchant Street was attended by Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung), Secretary U Hla Tun (Hla Tun-Twantay), Treasurer U Saw Myint (Maung Saw Myint) and CEC members of the MWJA. The donors were presented with certificate of honour. Saya Zawgyi’s family had also donated 50,000 kyats to MWJA last year. A fund for providing monetary assistance to the literati in poor health has been set up at the MWJA and the association has provided altogether 2,335,000 kyats to 181 literati. (7) 14.67 kilos of Ephedrine powder seized in Tiddim
YANGON, 26 Sept-A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched the cars at Twihtan Bridge in Tiddim Township, Chin State, and arrested Paung Dohwaung, son of U Ginzanan, of Kalay who was in a car with number plate 7/Ka 2801 together with 14.67 kilos of Ephedrine powder used for making stimulant tablets on 15 August. Action was being taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
(8) Voters of Monyo Township unanimously petition for dissolving pessimist NLD
YANGON, 26 Sept- The people from Monyo Township, Thayawady District, expressed no support for pessimist National League for Democracy and petitioned for dissolving it at rallies in Monyo Township Sports Ground and Yaykin Village Sports Ground on this morning. A total of 33,733 people from five wards and 13 village-tracts rallied in Monyo Township Sports Ground. On behalf of local people, Daw Tinza Oo of Shwepyitha Ward expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Han Kyi of Shwe-U-daung Ward, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multi-party Democracy General Election Sub-commission Dr U Sein Win Oo. Similarly, 42,757 people from 24 village-tracts rallied in Yaykin Village Sports Ground. Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Dr U Sein Win. The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan “Our Three Main National Causes”.

(9) 23 Letpadan Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 25 Sept-Twenty-three members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Latpan Township, Bago Division. Ten members of Letpadan Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Letpadan Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 28b June 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
