(3)Leading Organizing Committee for Observance of 56th Anniversary Armed Forces Day meets

YANGON, 20 Sept- The Leading Organizing Committee for Observance of the 56th Anniversary Armed Forces Day held first coordination meeting at the new hall of the Ministry of Defence this afternoon, addressed by Chairman of the Committee Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Lt-Gen Tin Oo explained the high calibre of the Tatmadaw, recounting that the Tatmadaw was founded with patriotic politicians to set Myanmar free from enslavement. He said the entire people unanimously supported the Tatmadaw by enlisting in it en masse or by joining hands with it to discharging military duties. Due to seriousness in political belief, the Tatmadaw firmly emerged as a disciplined, qualified and faithful organization which was loved by the people.

As the Tatmadaw has been able to forge national solidarity with Union Spirit since its assumption of the State’s duties, 17 major armed groups and many other small groups have returned to the legal fold. Aiming at emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation, the Tatmadaw laid down the four political objectives, the four economic objectives and the four social objectives and has been implementing them together with the people.

Thus, anyone who tries to draft the new Constitution in line with the desire of the colonialists is the nation’s common enemy. As the economic might is pivotal in building the national force, energetic efforts are being made on the basis of four economic objectives; the primary requirement of economic progress is the infrastructure; thus, necessary infrastructures are being built in all the regions and sectors of the nation.

A total of 112 dams have been built in the nation in order to make rapid progress in the agriculture sector. Irrigated areas in the nation at present total 4.319 million acres up from 2.48 million acres before 1988. Water resources have effectively been provided for agriculture and arrangements are being made for utilization of irrigated water for generating electric power. Power generation is main requirement in the economic sector of the State, he said. Altogether 26 hydel power projects have been built and eight major hydel power projects are now under construction. Completed hydel power projects generate 131.146 megawatts and those under construction will generate 1,900 megawatts. At the same time eight gas-powered electric power stations were built and 398 megawatts were generated.

And three gas power stations will generate 140 megawatts, he added. He said roads and bridges built spending a large amount of money are both economic infrastructures in the entire Union and socio-economic structure among the national races. Now eight bridges across the Ayeyawady, Thanlwin and Chindwin Rivers have been built. There are now 114 bridges which are 180 feet and above and other eight bridges will also be built.

Anti-government groups have no internal strength within the country and they are committing acts relying on external elements. Therefore the Tatmadaw will crush together with the people all dangers threatening the state.

Then, Secretary of the Leading Organizing Committee Deputy Adjutant-General Col Ye Tun, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than Brig-Gen Aung Kyi ,Minister for Labour Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe , Maj-Gen Myint Swe, Myanma Radio and Television U Ko Ko Htwe, Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung , MRTV U Khin Maung Htay reported to the meeting on their work programmes sector-wise.

Vice Quartermaster-General Brig-Gen Kyaw Win and senior Tatmadaw officers explained plans to implement the programmes of the respective sectors for the successful observance of the Armed Forces Day.

Lt-Gen Tin Oo looked into their requirements, saying the discussions and suggestions presented at the meeting were satisfactory. He said the Objectives of the 56th Anniversary Armed Forces Day are to forge national solidarity with Union Spirit; to strive together with the people for the emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation; to crush together with the people all dangers threatening the State; and to build a modern Tatmadaw of high calibre to be able to safeguard Our Three Main National Causes. All should strive with seriousness for the successful observance of the Armed Forces Day; and all should have security awareness.
