(1) Parittas recited in reverence of ImageYANGON, 13 Sept - Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township, Yangon North District, Yangon Division, was crowded with devotees paying obeisance to Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image the whole day today. Wut associations are reciting parittas daily on the hill. Daw Mya Mya San, wife of the Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, wife of Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Daw Khin Than Nwe, wife of Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Daw Khin Cho Oo, wife of Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, wives of the members of the State Peace and Development Council, Deputy Prime Ministers and the ministers paid obeisance to the Image on the hill this morning. They recited parittas from 8 am to 10 am today.
Other ‘Wut’ associations also recited parittas till 10 PM. From 5 August to date, donations towards the funds of the Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image have amounted to over K 47.43 million.
(2) First coord meeting of Work Committee for Holding Third ASEAN Youth Affairs Ministers Meeting heldYANGON, 13 Sept - Work Committee for holding the Third ASEAN Youth Affairs Ministers Meeting held its coordination meeting No 1/2000 at Social Welfare Department this afternoon.
Present were member of Leading Committee for Organizing the Third ASEAN Youth Affairs Ministers Meeting Chairman of Work Committee Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and members, Secretary of Work Committee and members, chairmen and secretaries of Sub-committees and guests.
Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa said the first ASEAN Youth Affairs Ministers Meeting was held in Indonesia in 1992 and the second in Malaysia in 1997. Myanmar will host the third meeting at Sedona Hotel from 29 October to 3 November this year, he said. Patron of the Leading Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt gave instructions for success of the meeting, he added.
The minister called for cooperation for success of the meeting. Members of the Leading Committee Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein and Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu took part in the discussions. Secretary of the Work Committee Director-General of Social Welfare Department U Sit Myaing reported on formation of Sub-committees and tasks to be undertaken. Officials of various Sub-committees reported on tasks to be done. The meeting ended with the concluding remarks by the Work Committee Chairman.
(3) Yangon Mayor hosts dinner in honour of Indian Military Soccer Team
YANGON, 13 Sept-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay hosted dinner in honour of the Indian Military Soccer Team led by Brigadier Gopala Pillai Kamachandran Nair at Yangon City Hotel at Eighth Mile junction at 7 PM yesterday. Also present were Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa. Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Commander of Defence Services Records Office Brig-Gen Myo Myint, Counsellor Mr Tilak Devasher and Military Attach Col Shaki Gurung of Embassy of India and guests, Joint-Secretary of YCDC U Kyi Win and heads of departments, committee members, senior military officers and invited guests.
(4) Deputy Minister for Commerce meets foreign guests
YANGON, 13 Sept-Deputy Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan met Mr Karl Imhof-Wiget of Seatra S A Co, Switzerland and party at the hall of Ministry of Commerce at 5.30 PM yesterday. Also present at the call were Director-General of Directorate of Trade U Nyunt Aye, Director-General of Border Trade Department Col Nay Win, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading U Min Hla Aung and officials.
Vice-Presidents of UMFCCI meet foreign guests
YANGON, 13 Sept-Vice-Presidents of Union of Myanmar Chambers of Commerce and Industry U Htain Win and U Win Myint and Joint-Secretary U Pyone Maung Maung and members met with a four-member delegation led by Senior Adviser of IMF Asia and Pacific Department Mr R Anthony Elson at 504/506, Merchant Street at 11 am today. Also present at the call was Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung.
(5) "Korean War & Korea Fifty Years Later "Photo Exhibition opened
YANGON, 13 Sept-A ceremony to open the "Korean War & Korea Fifty Years Later" Photo Exhibition, sponsored by Embassy of Republic of Korea, was held at the meeting hall (First Floor) of City Hall this morning, attended by No 4 Military Region Commander Brig-Gen Myo Myint, Joint-Secretary of Yangon City Development Committee U Kyi Win and members, Deputy Director-General of Information and Public Relations Department U Aung San, Director (News) of News and Periodicals Enterprise U Hla Tun, Korean Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Chung Jung-Gum, officials and invited guests. The Ambassador and the Joint-Secretary cut the ribbon to open the photo exhibition. The exhibition which will continue up to 15 September from 9.30 am to 4.30 PM daily displays the documentary photos depicting Korean War and progress in Korea after the war. Admission is free.
(6) Second National Workshop on Strategic Environmental Framework for GMS concludesYANGON, 13 Sept-The second National Workshop on Strategic Environmental Framework for the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) organized by the National Commission for Environment Affairs (NCEA) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) concluded at the Hotel Equatorial today. Team leader of Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Mr Vikrom Mathur presented studies on road projects for the Greater Mekong Sub-region, and those present took part in the discussions. Then, Director of National Commission for Environment Affairs Daw Yin Yin Lay delivered an address, and the workshop came to a close in the afternoon.
Minister inspects preparations for opening Mandalay Int'l Airport
YANGON, 13 Sept-Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe together with Director-General U Win Maung Department of Civil Aviation and officials arrived at Mandalay International Airport at 1.30 PM yesterday. The Minister and party inspected the greening tasks along the six-lane road leading to the airport, construction of staff houses, the signboard of the airport, the security gate, construction of the pandal for opening ceremony, the archway, and other buildings and gave necessary instructions.
Then, the Minister met with the staff of the respective ministries who were on duty at the airport and inspected the condition of offices and shops and attended to their needs. Afterwards, the Minister and party inspected the VIP Lounge and greening tasks and construction of the runway.
Deputy Minister attends IPRD's book-donation ceremony
YANGON, 13 Sept-A ceremony to donate books to Information and Public Relations Department under the Ministry of Information by well-wishers was held at the meeting hall of IPRD's Head Office on Pansodan Street, here, this morning.
It was attended by Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, departmental officials and well-wishers.
Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein accepted the donations. Then, well-wishers explained the purpose of the donations. Afterwards, the deputy minister expressed thanks. Today's donations included 975 books and 1300 posters by Chairman of Myanmar Education Research Bureau U Myint Han, 800 posters by Professor Dr U Aung of YGH, 500 magazines, 500 posters and 500 pamphlets by Director (Health Education) Dr Khin Than Oo of the Ministry of Health, 700 books by Director U Sein Pe of Public Works, 300 books by Eureka Co Ltd, 155 magazines, 10 books and 1,000 magazines by Managing Director of Shwemintha General Service Co Ltd U Myat Thu Win, 320 books by writer Mann Khin Khin, 320 books by writer Chit Naing (Psychology), 4,300 copies of Myanarthit Journal by U Kyaw Min Tun (a) Ko Nay Htut and 100 books by writer Nyein (Shweli) of Mandalay. The books donated today are worth K 1,087,750.
(7) Auditor-General inspects Pantanaw Township Accounts Office
YANGON, 13 Sept-Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye, accompanied by Director-General of A-G's Office Daw Thin Thin, Director U Kin Boy and officials, arrived at Pantanaw yesterday.
The auditor-general met Chairman of Pantanaw Township Peace and Development Council U Myo Han and departmental officials, accounts officers from Maubin District, Danubyu, Maubin and Pantanaw Townships, and accounts staff of Nyaungdon and Pantanaw Townships at Pantanaw Township Peace and Development Council Office, and gave instructions on work, regional development and staff affairs. He attended to the requirements presented by accounts officers concerned, and inspected the accounts office of Pantanaw Township, and left there in the evening.
(8) Commander, Minister inspect palm oil production
YANGON, 13 Sept - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung inspected oil palm plantations in Kawthoung District in the division on 11 September.
Accompanied by Chairman of the Leading Committee for Region-Wise Development of Agriculture Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung and officials, the commander inspected oil palm farms of Super One, SI, Yuzana, Annawa Tun, Dagon Timber, Po-kaung and Aungzinma companies. They looked into the requirements in making efforts for the thriving of the crop, extending sown acreage, availability of seeds, nursing of the plants and land preparation work. In their meeting with entrepreneurs, the commander and the minister spoke of the need to set up factories to produce palm oil. At Maliwan village, Bankachun village 18 miles from Kawthoung, they inspected an oil palm farm and an oil mill of a company. Officials of the company reported on maintenance of the farm and producing of palm oil. The commander and the minister urged them to strive to produce more oil in the coming season.
(9) 2,305 stimulants seized in Hsihseng
YANGON, 13 Sept-A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched a Jeep with number plate Ka/3706 and arrested Mg Dot (a) Mg Chun of Lwekwe Village, Hsihseng Township together with 2,305 stimulant tablets bearing "WY" on 25 August. On further investigation, the authorities arrested Mg Lain (a) Mg Lay of Saikkhaung Village of the same township. Action was taken against them in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
(10) Over 37,499 eligible voters of Saw Township in Minbu District unanimously petition for dissolving NLD
YANGON,13 Sept- Voters from Saw township of Gangaw District, Magway Division, unanimously expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it at three venues in the township on 10 August. Over 7,550 local people rallied at Myoma Sports Ground in Saw Township on 10 August.
On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Mya Thwin expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Myo Myint Aung, on behalf of local people, presented petitions signed by the people to Chairman of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Chit Htay. Altogether 13,367 local people rallied at the Sports Ground of Basic Education High School at Kyaukhtu Village-tract in Saw Township on 10 August.
On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Tha Cho expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Aung Pe, on behalf of local people, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Aung Than. Over 8,520 local people rallied at the sports ground of Basic Education High School at Laungshi Village in Saw Township on 10 August. On behalf of attendance's, merchant U Naing Aye expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Aung Tint, on behalf of local people, presented petitions signed by the people to Secretary of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Myint Aung. There are 37,798 eligible voters in Saw Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it, was 37,449 voters or 99.07 per cent.
(11) 17 Kutkai Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 13 Sept-Seventeen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Kutkai Township, Shan State. Seventeen members of Kutkai Township NLD, Shan State, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Kutkai Township Multi-party Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 3 August 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
