(1) Secretary-l inspects Image put up in upright positionYANGON, 5 Sept-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt today inspected progress in raising Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image in upright position.
On arrival at Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township, Yangon North District, at 10.20 am, the Secretary-1 was welcomed by Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko and officials.
At the briefing hall, Minister U Pan Aung reported to the Secretary-l on progress in raising the Image in upright position, and Minister U Aung Khin, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, Adviser at the State Peace and Development Council Office U Arnt Maung, Director-General of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana U Sann Lwin, sculptor U Taw Taw and officials on arrangements to carve the Image, to build the reliquary and to hold a religious ceremony. The Secretary-1 gave counsel.
He then inspected the work to put the Image in upright position. The Mindharnma Hill, where the Image will be kept for public obeisance, was crowded with devotees today. Engineers and blue and white collar workers of Myamna Railways and Myarma Electric Power Enterprise were making efforts raise the Image. Staff of Survey Department of the Ministry of Forestry and Concordia International, Ltd were also rendering assistance in the work.
Various "wut" associations were reciting religious verses in turn from morning till 10 PM. From 5 August to date, donations for the Image have amounted to over K 36.4 7 million.
(2) Secretary-1 receives Secretary of Department of Biotechnology and party of India
YANGON, 5 Sept-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Secretary of Department of Biotechnology Dr Manju Sharma and party of the Ministry of Science and Technology of India at the Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence this morning. Also present at the call were Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department. The guests were accompanied by Ambassador of India Mr Sayam Saran.
(3) 16th Defence Services Commander-in-Chief's Shield Under-21 Soccer Tournament opens
YANGON, 5 Sept- A ceremony to open the 16th Defence Services Commander-in-Chief's Shield Under-21 Soccer Tournament was held at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna at 3 PM today.
On behalf of the Defence Services Commander-in Chief, Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint delivered an address and opened the tournament. Among the spectators were Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, senior military officers, Military Attaches, officials of Sports and Physical Education Department, guest, officers and Tatmadaw members of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and family members.
After the opening ceremony, No 77 Light Infantry Division played against No 99 Light Infantry Division in the first round of the tournament. A total of 20 soccer teams of Defence Services (Navy) and (Air), military commands and LIDs are taking part in the tournament, which will last up to 6 October.
(4) Official from Indian Biotechnology Department
YANGON, 5 Sept-Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin met a four-member delegation led by Secretary of Biotechnology Department of India Dr Manju Sharma, accompanied by Ambassador of India Mr Sayam Saran and the Counsellor, at his office at 3.30 PM today. Also present at the call were heads of departments and enterprises and officials.
(5) Discussion with Fantasy Divers Co.
YANGON, 5 Sept-Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin met Executive Director Mr Jeroen Deknatel of Thailand-based Fantasy Divers Co Ltd and party at his office this morning. Also present were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Director- General U Khin Maung Latt of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism and officials of the ministry.
(6) Ambassador of Japan calls on Minister for Information
YANGON, 5 Sept-Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung met Ambassador of Japan Mr Shigeru Tsumori at Myanma Radio and Television at 3 PM today. Also present at the call were Managing Director U Tin Kha of News and Periodicals Enterprise, Director General U Khin Maung Htay of MRTV, Managing Director U Bo Kyi of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise, Adviser to Minister for Information U Kyaw Min and Head of Office Captain Soe Aung.
YANGON, 5 Sept-Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt met Ambassador of Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Myanmar Mr Nguyen Dang Khoa at the office of Ministry for Culture at 11 am today. Also present at the call were Director-General of Department of Cultural Institute U Myint Thein Swe, Director General of Department of Archaeology U Nyunt Han, Director-General of Fine Arts Department U Kyaw Win, Rector of University of Culture U Tin Soe and officials.
YANGON,5 Sept-Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa met Ambassador of Nepal Gen Satchit Shumshere J.B. Rana (Retd) at his office at 1 PM today. The minister also met Ambassador of Japan Mr Shigeru Tsumori at his office at 2 PM today. Also present at the calls were Director-General U Sit Myaing of Social Welfare Department, Director-General U Myint Tun of Fire Services Department, Director-General U Than Oo of Relief and Resettlement Department and Head of Office U Maung Pi.

YANGON, 5 Sept-Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein met Secretary Dr Manju Sharma of Biotechnology Department of Ministry of Science and Technology, India and party at his office on Pyidaungsu Yeiktha Road at 1.15 PM today. The visitors were accompanied by Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran. Also present at the call were Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo and officials official . . ministry.

Minister inspects Myanma Textile Industry and Win Thuza Shop
YANGON, 5 Sept-Member of Central Executive Committee of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Industry1 U Aung Thaung arrived at Okpo Village in Taungtha Township, Mandalay Division and met with the local people and attended to their needs for local development and gave necessary instructions on cultivation of suitable crops for the region on 3 September morning.
The Minister arrived at Myanma Textile Industry in Myingyan, and inspected dyeing of the clothes and inspected a plantation in the compound and gave necessary instructions at Win Thuza Shop in Kyaukse .
Afterwards, the Minister headed for the site a Paleik where a 25-ton Paper Mill was being built and heard the reports on installation of machinery, paving of the roads, installation of power lines by the officials. He also inspected the warehouse for storage of raw materials and left instructions there.
Minister inspects departmental tasks in Mandalay and Sagaing
YANGON, 5 Sept-Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, accompanied by the Director General of Forest Department, the Managing Director of Myanma Timber Enterprise and departmental officials arrived at PyinOoLwin and inspected upgrading of the National Botanical Gardens there on 2 September.
He also inspected Minsontaung Sanctuary Natogyi Township, greening tasks in Taungtha Hill, a neem plantation in Chauk Township, greening tasks of Mount Popa (Eastern Side), Tuyintaung in NyuangU Township and Law Nana Sanctuary in Bagan Township.
Minister inspects roads and bridge in Ayeyawady Division
YANGON, 5 Sept-Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials, inspected Yangon-Pantanaw Road and heard reports on the condition of the road by the officials in Einme on 4 September.
The Minister gave instructions on preparations for the construction of the road after the rainy season to the officials. Then the Minister and party inspected the Einme-Myaungmya Road section and arrived at Myaungmya, where Superintending Engineer U Myint Swe reported on work done on preparing the road and set target for the year 2000-2001, and the Minister gave necessary instructions an construction.
Then, the minister and party arrived at Pinlelay Bridge (Labutta) and Labutta Prawn Breeding Project will be implemented by Chairman of Myaungmya District Peace and Development Lt- Col- Tin Aye.
Minister inspects Myanma ShipyardsYANGON, 6 Sept-Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint and officials, arrived at Myanma Shipyards on Bayintnaung Road, Kamayut Township, this morning. The minister inspected building of double decker Thallawady (6) to ply the upper reaches of Ayeyawady and Chindwin rivers, 60-metre long transport ship for machinery, Myayadana to ply between Bagan-NyaungU and Mandalay for tourists, maintenance work of ancient seagoing vessel Moonbeon and building of Sunshineyacht (Iron hull) for pleasure riding.
Then, the minister and party inspected construction of new Htidaw for Khaungphu Pagoda in Myitkyina at the construction office.
The minister and party proceeded to Yangon International Airport where they inspected proposed site for new staff office, check-in counters in the departure lounge, departure of passengers and weighing of goods and gave necessary instructions.
Minister inspects University of Primary Health, Tuberculosis Hospital in Aung San Myo
YANGON, 5 Sept-Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, inspected University of Primary Health in Aung San Myo in Insein Township this morning. Acting Director-General of Medical Science Department Dr Maung Maung Win and Rector of the University Dr Thein Swe explained facts about the university to the minister. Then, Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein arrived at Tuberculosis Hospital in Aung San and inspected renovation of the laboratory and looked into the requirements.
The minister then arrived at Tuberculosis Eradication Zone No 1 in Insein General Hospital and inspected treatment of patients and tasks being carried out at the hospital. Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein inspected Insein General Hospital and gave instructions to officials on providing equipment and buildings.
Eighth Yangon Mayor's Trophy Volleyball Tournament opens
YANGON, 5 Sept-A ceremony to open the Eighth Yangon Mayor's Trophy Volleyball Tournament was held at the sports room of Yangon City Development Committee this morning, attended by Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa. Also present were Director of Sports and Physical Education Department U Maung Win, Patrons of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation Daw Khin Khin and Daw Khin Nyunt Myaing, officials and spectators. Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa opened the tournament. Four men ' s and two women's matches were held today. The tournament continues tomorrow. Altogether eight men's teams and five women's teams are taking part in the tournament.
Yangon Division Council Chairman's Trophy Inter-Township Body-building and Physical Culture Competitions held
YANGON, 5 Sept- The Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Chairman's Trophy Inter-Township Body-building and Physical Culture Competitions, sponsored by Myanmar Universal Bank and Yangon Division Physical Culture Sub-committee, was held at Mahatrna Gandhi Hall yesterday. A total of 39 men and 21 women took part in the competitions. In junior body-building contest, Tin Aung of Dawbon was first, Maung Maung Kyi of Thingangyun second and Maung Myint of Dawbon third. In senior body-building contest, Aung Gyi of Dawbon was first, Tin Naing of Thingangyun second and Khin Maung Shwe of Tamway third. In junior physical culture contest, Zin Mar of South Okkalapa was first, Thiri Khaing of South Okkalapa second and Mi Mi Soe third. In senior physical culture contest, Kay Khaing Oo of Insein was first, Thin Thin Aye of South Okkalapa second and Le Wa third. Dawbon Township won the championship trophy.
Deputy General Manager U Myint Thaung and Assistant Manager U Tin Win of Myanmar Universal Bank, Chairman of Kyauktada Township Peace and Development Council U Maung Maung Soe and officials presented prizes to the winners.
Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee inspects practicing of archers
YANGON, 5 Sept-Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint inspected practice of archers in Kyaikkasan Grounds this morning. The minister inspected practice of Myanmar selected archer Ma Thi Thi Win and selected archers. Trainees of sports instructor course for Basic Education PT teachers also observed the practice.
(12) Extended Prawn Breeding Committee holds coord meeting
YANGON, 5 Sept-The Eighth Coordination Meeting of Extended Prawn Breeding Committee was held at 1.30 PM at the meeting hall of Fisheries Department on Sin Min Street in Ahlone Township today. Chairman of Extended Prawn Breeding Committee Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Lt-Gen Tin . Ngwe attended and delivered a speech at the meeting. Chairman Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe gave instructions based on reports to the official.
(13) 24 Nganzun Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 5 Sept-Twenty-four members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Nganzun Township, Mandalay Division. Twenty-four members of Nganzun Township NLD Mandalay Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Nganzun Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 15 March 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
