(1)  Engineers and employees working hard to put the Image in upright position

YANGON, 3 Sept - Mindhamma Hill on Mindhamma Road, Insein Township, Yangon North District,  was thronged with monks and Buddhist devotees who came to pay homage to Lawka Chantha Abhaya  Labha Muni Image today.

"Wut" associations recited religious verses in reverence for the Image daily. Wife of Vice-Chairman of the  State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services
Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye Daw Mya Mya San, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin  Nyunt's wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo's wife Daw Khin Than Nwe,  Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint's wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, wives of the members of the State Peace and  Development Council, wives of the deputy prime ministers and wives of the ministers recited religious  verses in
homage to the Image from 8 am to 10 am today.

General Maung Aye's wife Daw Mya Mya San and party paid  homage to the Image. Engineers and employees of Myanma  Railways and Myanma Electric Power Enterprise under the close  supervision of
Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung were  working hard to put the Image in upright position  and managed to  raise it at an angle of 58 degrees at 6 PM. Monks and devotees  were also making
donations towards the funds of the Image. The  donations received from 5 August to date are K 34.958,000 and  12 US dollars and one Brunei dollar.


(2) Secretary-l attends opening of Espace Avenir Executive Serviced Apartment

YANGON, 3 Sept-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  attended the opening of Espace Avenir Executive Serviced Apartment at the building on Pyay Road in  Kamayut
Township this morning.

Minister for Hotels and  Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin,  Managing Director U Yin  Htwe Thet and Executive  Director U Teza formally  opened Espace Avenir  Executive Serviced  Apartment. Next, the
Secretary- I formally unveiled  the signboard of Espace Avenir Executive Serviced Apartment. Managing Director U Yin Htwe Thet  explained emergence of Espace Avenir Executive Serviced Apartment.

Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee and National Health Committee Secretary- I Lt-Gen Khin  Nyunt accepted K 10 million for education and health development tasks donated by Thiripyanchi U
Myint Swe (First Class Naing-Ngant-Gon Yi title recipient, First Grade Mawgun Award Winner and  Gallantry Medal Winner) and wife Daw Ohn.

Executive Director U Teza and   Director Daw Thida Zaw of Central   Marketing Co Ltd presented   Commemorative gifts to the   Secretary-l.

Afterwards, the Secretary-l and party viewed the units of Espace  Avenir Executive Serviced Apartment. Espace Avenir Executive  Serviced Apartment consists of two Penthouse units, 14 executive  suites and 12 studio apartment units' totalling 28 units.


(3) Construction of Chindwin River (Monywa) Bridge coordinated

YANGON, 3 Sept -A coordination meeting on construction oŁ   Chindwin Bridge (Monywa) was held at the office of the   Commander-in-Chief (Army) of the Ministry of Defence this   afternoon, with an address by Secretary-l of the State Peace and   Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

The Secretary-l said the meeting is to discuss construction of   Chindwiri Bridge (Monywa) and Monywa-Kalaywa-Kalay Road.   The existing Monywa-Kalay-Tamu Road is long and winding. For  construction of a better and useful new road, the Head of State Senior General Than Shwe himself chose  an axis of Monywa-Ahlon-Ywagyi-Myoma Kalaywa-Kalay Road that passed through villages on the  west bank of Chindwin River Construction is now under way.

The Secretary-l urged officials concerned to make efforts for construction of Chindwin River (Monywa)  Bridge in time employing their experience and know-how. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for  Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla and Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun reported on data of  Chindwin Bridge (Monywa) Construction Project and arrangements.

Officials also reported on assistance to be provided by ministries concerned. The Secretary-l took part  in the discussions and the meeting came to a close.


(4) Myanmar Education Committee Chairman Secretary-1 attends opening of multimedia  teaching centre of Hline BEHS
No 4

YANGON, 3 Sept-A ceremony to open the multimedia teaching centre of Basic Education High School  No 4 in Hline Township was held, at the school this morning, with an address by Chairman of  Myanmar
Education Committee Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Headmistress Daw Ni Ni Tin and Vice-Chairman of School Board of Trustees U Sai Maung Myint  formally opened the multimedia teaching centre. Then, the Secretary-l formally unveiled the signboard of
the centre.

Afterwards, the Secretary-l and party inspected the display media   room,. the language lab, the computer application room, the   computerized instructions room, the altar room, the domestic science
room, the arts room and the music room and skill demonstration of   students. Next, a ceremony to mark the opening of the multimedia   teaching centre of the school was held at the hall of the school.

The Secretary- 1 presented video and cassette tapes for teaching aid to  the headmistress. Afterwards, the Secretary-l and Minister for Education U Than Aung accepted  donations for the school.

 Then, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary- I of  the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  delivered an address. The Secretary-l said that the government and  the people joining hands with one another, have been implementing  education promotion programmes, and from the first phase, to the  second phase, to the third phase, more and more success has been  achieved.

After the ceremony, the Secretary-l and party, together with members of the school board of trustees  and the parent-teacher association, the well-wishers, the headmistress and staff and students, had photos  taken.


(5) Tatmadaw families, well-wishers donate provisions to Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik,  Dhammawadi Nunnery in Insein Township

YANGON, 3 Sept- Families of Defence Services (Army,   Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated rice to Insein   Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik of West Ywama Ward in Insein   Township this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State   Peace and Development Council Chief of the Bureau of   Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

The congregation received the Five Precepts from   Administrator Sayadaw of the Sarthintaik Agga Maha   Pandita Bhaddanta Tilokabhivamsa.

Then, the Chief of Staff (Army) donated provisions to the Presiding Nayaka Sayadaw. Chief of Staff  (Navy.) Capt Soe Thein, Chief of Staff (Air) Maj-Gen Myint Swe and \/ice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen
Maung Nyo presented rice donated by families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) to the  Presiding Nayaka Sayadaw.

Afterwards, Ministry of Home Affairs, Yangon City   Development Committee, Yangon Division Peace and   Development Council, departments and well-wishers   donated provisions and cash towards the
funds of the   Sarthintaik to ministers and the Deputy Minister for Forestry.

Then, Director of People's Militia and Frontier Forces   Brig-Gen Than Maung supplicated on the purpose of the   donations. Next, the congregation shared merits gained. The   congregation received
the Eight Precepts from Administrator   Sayadaw of Insein Ywama Paiiyatti Sarthintaik Agga Maha  Pandita Bhaddanta Tilokabhivamsa. The Secretary-2 and party donated provisions to Sayadaws.

Tatmadaw families and well-wishers donated provisions and K 280,090 to Presiding Nun Daw  Dhamrnasingi. On behalf of well-wishers, Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun presented K  208,000 for installation of computer at the nunnery to Chairman of Yangon North District Peace and  Development Council Lt-Col San Matu. Then, Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ellokabhivamsa delivered a  sermon, followed by sharing of merits.


(6)  Thai Minister and party conclude visit

YANGON, 3 Sept-Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand and Chairman of Thai Tourism  Authority Dr Adisai Bodharamik, who was here at the invitation of Minister for Hotels and Tourism
Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, and party flew back to Thailand yesterday evening. They were seen off at Yangon  International Airport by Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu,  Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak and officials of the ministry.


(7) PRC journalist delegation concludes visit

YANGON, 3 Sept-The eight-member Chinese journalist delegation led by Director Mr Li Maoguan of  Quishi Magazine of the People's Republic of China left here for home by air this afternoon. The  delegation was on a visit  in Myanmar for a week under the cultural exchange programme to promote  friendship between China and Myanmar. The delegation was seen off at the Yangon International  Airport by Managing Director U Tin Kha of News and Periodicals Enterprise, Director (News) U HLa
Tun and officials, Charge d'Affaires Mr Tang Ying, Second Secretary Mr Zhang Yanggen and Third  Secretary Mrs Chi Ying and officials of Chinese Embassy.


(8) Minister attends merit-sharing for U Hantha Tazaung of Kyeikkhanein Pagoda in   Pantanaw

YANGON, 3 Sept-Member of Central Executive Committee of the Union Solidarity and Development  Association Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun, accompanied by Director-General Col
Maung Htay of immigration and National Registration Department and officials, arrived in Mintasu  Village, Pantanaw Township, yesterday morning. . USDA CEC member Minister U Saw Tun together  with district and township authorities, members of social associations and students attended the  ceremony to share merits for U Hantha Tazaung in the precinct of Kyeikkhanein Pagoda in Mintasu  Village in Pantanaw Town ship. Shwehlay Village Tatmadaw Kyaung Sayadaw Saddhamma Jotika  Bhaddanta Visarada administered the Five Precepts. Minister U Saw Tun and wife Daw Yi Yi May and  well-wishers offered provisions and Waso candles to members of the Sangha.

Officials of Tazaung Renovation Committee accepted. Member of Pagoda Board of Trustees U Tin  Hlaing presented picture of the pagoda to Minister U Saw Tun. Then, the CEC member and party  attended the traditional boat race of Mintasu village. U Saw Tun-Daw Yi Yi May and officials presented  prizes to the rowing teams and dance troupes.


(9)  Minister for Information and wife and family present donations to Hninzigon Home for  the Aged

YANGON, 3 Sept- Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung and wife Daw Khin Khin Lay and  family donated K 100,000 towards g the funds of Hninzigon I Home for the Aged this morning in  memory of
the late parents U Ba Khin-Daw Ma Ma Gyi and U Tet Tun ,Daw Khin Toke.

Chairman of Hninzigon Home for the Aged Welfare Executive Committee U Maung Tin accepted the  donations and presented a certificate of honour to well-wishers.

Similarly, sons and daughters U Zaw Win Hlaing-Daw Tin Tin in presented K 10.000. Maj Tun Tun  Oo, Daw Ni Ni Win K 15,200 and U Naing Oo-Ma Thida Tin K 10,000 towards the funds of the  Home for the Aged.


(10)  15 Singaing Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 3 Sept-Fifteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Singaing  Township, Mandalay Division. Fifteen members of Singaing Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of
their  own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Singaing Township Multiparty Democracy  General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 5 March 2000 as they no longer wished  to participate in party politics of NLD.
