(1)  Secretary-l :inspects Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image being  put up in upright Position

YANGON, 2 Sept-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected work to convey Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni  Image onto the throne at Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township this evening.

The Secretary-l, accompanied by officials of the State Peace and  Development Council Office, arrived at Mindhamma Hill where they were  welcomed by Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Minister for Rail  Transportation U Pan Aung, 'Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin,  Deputy Minister for Rail Transportation Thura U Thaung Lwin, Deputy Minister  for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko and departmental officials.

The Secretary-1 inspected raising of Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image  in upright position. Minister U Pan Aung reported on progress of work and  tasks to be undertaken. The Secretary-1 then gave instructions. Next,  Ministers U Pan Aung and U Aung Khin and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aung  Ko and officials reported on arrangements for all-round construction of  Mindhamma Hill, construction of stairways and retaining wells and tasks for  construction of Gandakuti Taik. The Secretary-l took part in the  discussions. Engineers and employees of Myanma Railways and Myanma Electric  Power Enterprise are working hard to convey Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni  Image onto the throne of Mindhamma Hill. The position of the image is now  45. Mindhamma Hill was crowded with devotees inching members of the Sangha,  nuns, people and "wut" associations recited verses in turn. Donations received  for the funds of the image from 5 August to date totalled K 33,856,700.


(2) Secretary-l attends opening of In-patient Care Centre of U Hla Tun  Hospice (Cancer) Foundation

YANGON, 2 Sept-A ceremony to open the Hospice In-patient Care Centre,  donated by U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer) Foundation and built by, Department of  Human Settlement and Housing Development of the Ministry of Construction,  was held at the venue beside No 2 Highway in Dagon Myothit (East) Township  this morning, with an address by Chairman of National Health Committee  Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket  Sein and U Hla Tun formally opened the Centre. Then, the Secretary-l  unveiled the statue marking the Centre. Afterwards, a ceremony to mark the  opening ceremony of the Centre was held at the hall of the Centre. First,  the Secretary-1 delivered an address.

In conclusion, the Secretary-l made wishes "May U Hla Tun Hospice (Cancer)  Foundation and U Hla Tun Hospice In-patient (Cancer) Care Centre last long  and may Sayagyi U Hla Tun and his friends and colleagues who have provided  assistance for the noble self-assigned task in terms of man, money and "metta"  be able to succeed in secular and spiritual affairs.

Next, U Hla Tun presented the souvenir to the Secretary-l.  Afterwards,  executives of the Foundation presented gifts to U Hla Tun. The Secretary-l  presented K 100,000 donated by the National Health Committee for the Hospice  In-patient (Cancer)Care Centre to U Hla Tun.

After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 and party and guests inspected the  building of the Hospice In-patient Care Centre of the U Hla Tun Hospice  (Cancer) Foundation.


(3)  Secretary-1 and wife attend reception to mark National Day of SRV

YANGON, 2 Sept- Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe attended the reception to  mark the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam hosted by  Ambassador of Vietnam Mr Nguyen Dang Khoa, at the Traders Hotel at 6.30 PM  today. Also present on the occasion were ministers, deputy ministers,  diplomats and their wives and guests.


(4) Insein Township BEHS No 2 gets multimedia teaching centre

YANGON, 2 Sept-A ceremony to open the multimedia teaching centre of Basic  Education High School No 2, Insein Township, was held at that school this  afternoon, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-l  of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Headmistress Daw Maria and Chairman of the School Board of. Trustees U Aung  Thein formally opened the multimedia teaching centre. Then, the Secretary-l  formally unveiled the signboard of the multimedia teaching centre.

Afterwards, the Secretary-l and party inspected the audio-visual teaching  system, the study room, the computerized instruction room, the computerized  media section, the altar room, the domestic science room, the painting room,  the school health room, the teaching aid room and the arts room, and the  skill demonstration of the students.

Next, the ceremony to mark the opening of the multimedia teaching centre  was held in the school hall. The Secretary-l presented video and cassette  tapes for the multimedia teaching centre of the school.

The Secretary-1 and Minister for Education U Than Aung accepted donations  for the school K 4,680,000 by parents, K 50,000 by member of the school  board of trustees U Myint Shein and Daw Than Than Myint, K 50,000 by members  of the school board of trustees U Kyi Lwin and Dr Daw Ni Ni Sein, K 100,000  by well-wishers from Nathagon, K 65,000 by member of the school board of  trustee's Daw Cho Cho and Daw Myint Myint San, K 50,000 by member of the  school board of trustees U Myint Lwin and Daw Thein Kyi and K 100,000 by U  Tun Tun Kyaw and Daw Kyin Su of Kint Gannent Factory.

After the ceremony, the Secretary-l and party, together with the members  of the school board of trustees and the parent-teacher association, the  well-wishers, the headmistress, teachers and students, had photos taken.


(5)  Provisions donated to 68 monasteries in North Okkalapa, Mayangon  Townships

YANGON, 2 Sept- Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families and well-wishers  donated provisions to 68 monasteries in Ward 2 in North Okkalapa Township in  Yangon East District at 9 am today.

The ceremony was held at Ananda Library in the compound of Melamu Pagoda  and it was attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development  Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and, Chief of Staff (Army)  Lt-Gen Tin Oo. Presiding Sayadaw of Yangon Kyaungtaik Maha Dhamma Kahtika  Bahujana Hitadhara Bhaddanta Jatila administered the Five Precepts. Then,  Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo presented offertories to the Presiding Sayadaws.  Ministers  Brig-Gen Lun Maung and U Aung Khin, the deputy ministers presented  offertories to members of the Sangha.

Deputy Adjutant-General Col Ye Tun, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe  Thein and Chief of Staff (Air) Maj-Gen Myint Swe presented provisions  donated by Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families to presiding Sayadaws of  68 monasteries.

Provisions-165 bags of rice, 70 viss of edible oil, 500 viss of iodized  salt, 50 packets of soft salt for tooth brushing, 1,295 bottles of assorted  traditional medicines and 69 sets of robes were donated by Yangon Division  Peace and Development Council, others Associations and family and peoples.

The minister , the deputy minister and well-wishers presented offertories  to members of the Sangha.

Then, member of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Presiding Sayadaw of  Kalaywatawya Sarthintaik Dwipitakadhara DwipitakaKovida Agga Maha Pandita  Bhaddanta Jagarabhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.  Altogether 1,396 members of the Sangha are attending the Buddhist literature  courses in Kalaywatawya Sarthintaik.


(6) Thai Minister at Prime Minister's Office visits Shwedagon Pagoda

YANG0N, 2 Sept-Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand and  Chairman of Thai Tourism Authority Dr Adisai Bodharamik and party,  accompanied by Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint  Kyu, Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak and officials of the Ministry  of Hotels and Tourism, visited the Shwedagon Pagoda this morning.

The Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand signed in the  visitor's book and donated US $ 300. The pagoda board of trustees presented  the photo of the Shwedagon Pagoda to the visiting Minister. Minister Dr  Adisai Bodharamik and party went to Bago and visited Hsutaungpyi Kyaikpon  Pagoda, Shwethalyaung reclining image and Shwemawdaw Pagoda.

The visiting Minister went to the excavation, site of Kanbawzathadi Palace  of King Bayintnaung. He also visited the Hanthawady Archaeological Museum  and Bamarathana Throne Chamber. In the evening, Minister for Hotels and  Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and Minister Dr Adisai Bodharamik signed the  minutes of the meeting on bilateral cooperation in tourism at the Kandawgyi  Palace Hotel.


(7) 57 members led by Tharabwin Station Chairman Pado Chit Po of KNU  armed group exchange arms for peace in Taninthayi Township

YANGON, 2 Sept-The State Peace and Development Council, upholding Our  three Main National Causes, is striving for national reconsolidation with  might and main, and is implementing the 12 political, economic and social  objectives for emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation.

Armed groups have realized that their destructive acts did not benefit the  nation at all and retarded their regional development, and they understood  the genuine goodwill and correct endeavours of the government. After  abandoning their jungle world, remaining armed groups, wishing to join hands  with the people and the Tatmadaw for undertaking regional development tasks,  have been exchanging arms for peace individually or in Thirty-one members  'and 26 family members, totalling 57 led by Tharabwin Station Chairman Pado  Chit Po of No 2 Company, No 11 Battalion, No 4 Brigade of KNU armed group in  Taninthayi Division, together with 17 assorted arms, exchanged arms for  peace at the Tatmadaw column in Taninthayi Township on 26 August.

A ceremony to exchange arms for peace by the armed group led by Tharabwin  Station Chairman Pado Chit Po was held at Basic Education Middle School in  Tharabwin Village, Taninthayi Division, on 30 August morning.

Present were local Tactical Operations Commander Col Aung San Tin,  Chairman of District peace and Development Council Lt-Col Khin Maung Kywe,  township level officials, members of the Union Solidarity and Development  Association, Red Cross and Fire Brigade and Maternal and Child Welfare  Association and local people exceeding 1,500.

Speaking on he occasion, Tactial Operations Commander Col Aung San Tin  said that the Tatmadaw warmly welcomed the group which exchanged arms for  peace after realizing the goodwill and endeavours of the Government and  abandoning their destructive acts which do not benefit the nation.

Now, national solidarity is becoming stronger due to genuine goodwill of  the Government; only when national solidarity is strong and peace and  tranquillity reign in the country, can strenuous efforts be made for  regional development, he added.

The Tactical Operations Commander also invited the remnants of armed  groups to swap arms for peace and return to the legal fold as the group of  Pado Chit Po, and urged the members of the armed group which exchanged arms  for peace, to participate in regional development work. He also said that  necessary assistance will be extended to them.

Then, those who ex changed arms for peace led by Pado Chit Po presented  their arms to Col Aung San Tin. Afterwards, Col Aung San Tin and officials  presented monetary assistance, rice and gifts to Pado Chit Po and party.

Next, Pado Chit Po spoke words of thanks. On behalf of local people, U Tin  Kyaing of Tharabwin Village said that local people warmly welcome the group  led by Pado Chit Po. More persons of armed group are going to exchange arms  for peace.


(8)  Chinese journalist delegation tours Yangon

YANGON, 2 Sept-The visiting eight-member Chinese journalist delegation led  by Mr Li Maoguan arrived at Maha Bandoola Bridge at 8 am today. The  delegates were welcomed there by Deputy Superintending Engineer of Public  Works U Ohn Han who briefed them on construction of the bridge at the  project office and conducted them along the bridge. Then, they proceeded to  Thanlyin Bridge where they were welcomed, briefed and conducted along the  bridge by Deputy General Manager U Myat Lin of Myanma Railways. Afterwards.  they posed for souvenir photo in front of commemorative stone inscription of  the bridge.

Next, they proceeded to Hlainethaya Industrial Zone. Deputy Director U Tun  Lin of Foreign Relations Section of Department of Human Settlement and  Housing Development explained facts about the Zone with the use of video and  slides. They visited Tokyo Plastic Pipe Factory and Myanmar Guston Molinel  Garment Factory.

Then, they arrived at the Defence Services Museum where they were welcomed  and conducted round, by General Staff Officer (Grade 2) Maj Kyaw Kyaw Myint.  A luncheon was hosted by Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung) of Myanmar  Writers and Journalists Association in honour of the delegation at Karaweik  Palace Hotel at 12.30 PM.

Also present were vice chairmen, secretary, joint-secretary and central  executive committee members of MWJA, Charge d'Affaires Mr Tang Ying, Second  Secretary Mr Zhang Yanggen and Third Secretary Mrs Shi Ying of Chinese  Embassy. Secretary of MWJA U Hla Tun.(Hla Tun Twantay) introduced Myanmar  Writers and Journalists to the delegates. The leader of the delegation  introduced the delegates to Myanmar writers and journa1ists.

Then, Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung) ex-0 tended greetings and  explained facts about MWJA. The leader Mr Li Maoguan spoke words of thanks.  Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung) and the leader Mr Li Maoguan exchanged  gifts be H fore the luncheon.

Finally, the delegates visited Myanma Gems Museum where they were welcomed  and conducted by Deputy Director Maj Zaw Win Naing.


(9) Minister inspects Bran Oil Mill in Insein Township

YANGON 2 Sept-Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, accompanied by  Managing Director U Min Hla Aung of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading and  officials, arrived at the Direct Freight Handling Section 2 of Transport  Department, MAPT, at the comer of Lansdown Street, Botahtaung Township, at 9  am today. The minister heard reports on storage of grains presented by  officials.

The minister gave instructions on minimizing loss and wastage and damage,  prevention of natural hazard, meeting of set standard and keeping environs  of warehouses clean. Then, the minister and party inspected warehouses of  Direct Freight Handling Section 2 on Strand Road and gave instructions to  officials. Afterwards, the minister and party proceeded to No 03 Bran Oil  Mill in West Ywama Ward; Insein Township, where Factory Manager U Nyunt Aung  reported on renovation of Palm Oil Refinery and innovation of machinery for  the refinery. The minister and party inspected test-run of innovated  machinery.


(10)  11 Pale Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 2 Sept-Eleven members resigned from the National League for  Democracy of Pale Township, Sagaing Division. Eleven members of Pale  Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending  letters of resignation to Pale Township Multiparty Democracy. General  Election Sub-commission and the  party concerned on 15 June 2000 as they no  longer wished to participated in party politics of NLD.
