(1) Secretary-1 inspects development works in Mandalay and Sagaing Divisions

YANGON, 27 Aug-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party, together with members of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Counci1 Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win, went to the Centra1 Fire Services Training Schoo1 under the Ministry of Socia1 Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in PyinOoLwin Township after attending the opening ceremony of the Specia1 Refresher Course No 7 for Basic Education Teachers at the Centra1 Institute of Civil Service (Upper Myanmar) in PyinOoLwin Township, Mandalay Division, yesterday morning.

The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed there by Director-General of the Fire Services Department Col Myint Tun, Principal Col Kyaw Soe and officials. Director-General of FAD Col Myint Tun reported on progress of construction of the training school, the opening of training courses and cultivation of crops and vegetables. The Secretary-1 said that as regards administration of the training schoo1, it is necessary to keep in balance teaching, training and management sectors, and officials need to carry out the tasks of the training school successfully.

Next, the Secretary- I and party, accompanied by Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint, proceeded to PyinOoLwin, Mandalay Division. Then, the Secretary-l and party inspected the arrangements for making Kandawlay Lake of PyinOoLwin clean, pleasant and beautiful, and then proceeded to the National Botanical Gardens. Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Khin Maung and officials reported on the condition of the amount of water flowing into Kandawgyi and Kandawlay Lakes in PyinOoLwin and arrangements for storing water in the 1akes.

Mr Frankie Chew of Win Landscaping and Design Co Ltd and U Win Aung of Wood Lands Co Ltd reported on plans to be carried out to raise the standard of the gardens up to national 1eve1. The Secretary-l gave instructions, and inspected the gardens. Next, the Secretary-l and party inspected the thriving coffee plant nurseries and plantations of national entrepreneurs in PyinOoLwin.  Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint reported on projects for extension of coffee plant cultivation in PyinOoLwin Township.

The Secretary-l gave instructions on extension of cultivation of coffee plants. Afterwards, the Secretary-l and party inspected sample tea plants of foreign strains and local strains, coffee seeds, dry coffee seeds and the manual coffee seed husking machine.

Next, the Secretary-l and party went to Golden Lion Instant Coffee Factory and inspected the packaging and production process of instant coffee. Division Electric En After that, the Secretary-l and party proceeded to the construction site of the University of Culture (Mandalay) in Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Division, where they were welcomed by Minister for Culture U Win Sein and officials. The Secretary-l and party inspected construction work.

Then, the Secretary-l and party went to Honpan Khaing Phyo Agricultural Farm of Honpan Agricultural Company Ltd in Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Division. The Secretary-l and party later inspected the cultivation of lychee and mango plants and grape vines in the farm.

Next, the Secretary-l and party went to the construction site of the Institute of Dental Medicine (Mandalay) in Mandalay. Deputy Minister for Health Professor Dr Mya Oo and officials reported on progress of work. Then, the Secretary-l and party inspected construction work. The Secretary-l and party together with member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen Soe Win left Mandalay this morning for Monywa. The Secretary-l delivered an address at the opening of Win Thuza Shop of Myanma Textile Industries in Monywta.

The Secretary-l and party went to Laboh Village on Monywa-Ahlon-Yagyi Myoma-Kalaywa Road in Kani Township. The Secretary-l presented a TV set, VCR, cassette player, video tape and cassette tapes for Laboh Affiliated Basic Education High School to Headmaster U Tha Aung. The Secretary-l met education and health staff of Laboh Villages and nearby villages. Officials reported on education, health, civil service affairs and requirements. The Secretary-l called for making efforts for raising of living standard of their own and national development.

The Secretary-l and party arrived in Mandalay in the artifacts. A ceremony to present rare “parabeiks” and artifacts to the State was held at Mandalay Airport. The Secretary-l and paid obeisance to ancient Buddha images and observed the “parabeik”. Sayadaw Bhaddanta Paninda of Dhammikayama Taik Yadana Pinsi Kyaung in Mandalay handed over ancient objects and rare “parabeiks” to the Secretary-l. The Secretary-l and party arrived back in the evening.


(2) Secretary-1 attends opening of WinThuza Shop in Monywa 236 items worth k 26m on sale

YANGON, 27 Aug-A ceremony to open Win Thuza Shop (Monywa) of Myanma Textile Industries of the Ministry of Industry-1 was held on the second floor of Myathala Market on Bogyoke Road in Monywa, Sagaing Division, this morning, with an address by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Counci1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

First, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt formally unveiled the signboard of the shop. Then, Managing Director Col Oo Thein Maung and Chairman of Monywa District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Nyunt formally opened the shop.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected the shop. Afterwards, a ceremony to mark the opening of the shop was held at the shop. Afterwards, the Secretary-l said that the government has assigned the Ministry of Indus- try-l the tasks of beefing up production and speeding up export substitute items production-, so the ministry is producing basic foodstuff and house hold goods.


(3) Provisions donated to monastic education school in North Okkalapa Township

YANGON, 27 Aug- Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families and well-wishers donated provisions to Dhammamaydhini Pyinsabala Hill Region Missionary Monastic Education School in North Okkalapa Township this morning.

It was attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe. Congregation received the Five Precepts from Presiding Sayadaw Maha Saddhammajotikadhaja Bhaddanta Janeya of Dharnmamaydini Pyinsabala Hill Region Missionary Monastic Education School. The Secretary-2 and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe presented offertories to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Janeya.

Ministers U Aung Khin and Brig-Gen Lun Maung, the deputy ministers, the vice mayor and well-wishers presented offertories to the members of the Sangha.

Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo and Officiating Technical General Staff Officer (Air) Lt-Col Ye Chit Pe presented pro visions donated by Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families to the Presiding Sayadaw. Provisions 145 bags of rice, 30 viss of edible oil, 200 viss of iodized salt, 20 packets of soft salt for tooth brushing, 905 boxes of assorted traditional medicines and a set of robes were donated by Yangon City Development Committee, Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, Yangon East Distinct and North Okkalapa Township Peace and Development Council, Myanma Perennial Crops Enterprise, Myanma Salt and Marine Product Enterprise, Yangon Division Salt Factory Owners Association, personnel of Traditional Medicine Department and. proprietors of traditional medicine medical halls, Myanmar Member of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Presiding Sayadaw of Kalaywa Tawya Sarthintaik Dwipitaka Kovida Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Jagarabhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits. Altogether 848 school children including 180 Kayin, Kachin, Palaung, Padaung, Pa-O, Mon, Shan and Wa novices are attending the monastic education school.


(4) Secretary-2 attends 71st birthday ceremony of Bhaddanta Pannajota

YANGON, 27 Aug-A ceremony to mark the 71st birthday of Hnankyaung Sayadaw of Thayettaw Kyaungtaik in Lanmadaw Township Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Pannajota was held at the Kyaunytaik at 7.30 am today, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung and well-wishers presented offertories to the Sayadaw.


(5) Ambassador U Kyaw Myint

YANGON, 28 Aug- U Kyaw Myint, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal t Republic of Brazil, presented his credentials to His Excellency Mr Fernando Henrique Cardoso, President of the Federal Republic of Brazil, on 15 August 2000, in Brazil.


(6) Minister for Industry-1 inspects bicycle factory in Mandalay

YANGON, 27 Aug-Chairman of Myanma Industrial Development Committee Minister for Industry- 1 U Aung Thaung and officials inspected Yadanamyin bicycle factory in Industrial Zone-1 in Pyigyidagun Township in Mandalay yesterday.

The minister inspected the warehouse for bicycle spare parts. Then, the minister and party proceeded to Htan Zae Industries Co Ltd. The minister inspected raw materials used in production of floor slabs and wall tiles. The minister observed various kinds of tiles produced by the factory and met officials of the factory. General Manager of Myanma Ceramics Industries U Myint Thaung reported on facts about the factory and production capacity. The minister went to Seinban Industrial Producers_ Cooperative Society, where he inspected production of spray dryer and other things needed for the soap factory. Major preparations are under way to turn the former No 2 Match Factory into a bicycle factory in Yangon. A soap factory is also being built in Magway.


(7) Monks and devotees throng Mindhamma Hill

YANGON, 27 Aug - Monks and devotees were seen at Mindhamma Hill on Mindhamma Road in Insein Township, Yangon North District today, paying homage to Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image and doing meritorious deeds.

Under the close supervision of Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, engineers and employees of Myanma Railways and Myanma Electric Power Enterprise carried out preparatory work to lift the Image. The ceremony to convey the Image onto the throne on Mindhamma Hill will be held on 28 August.

The devotees who came to pay homage to the Image and those who were taking part in the preparatory work, were served with Myanma traditional delicacies, soft drinks and purified drinking water. From 7.00 am to 10.00 PM, “Wut “associations recited religious verses by turn. Monks and devotees were making donations towards the funds of the Image. Donations received from S August to date, exceeded K 30 million.


(8) PRC journalist delegation arrives

YANGON, 27 Aug- Under the arrangement to exchange visits and promote friendly relations between the journalists of the People’s Republic of China and Myanmar,  an eight-member journalist delegation led by Director Mr Li Maoguan of the Editorial Office for Political News of Qiushi Magazine arrived here by air this evening.

They were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Managing Director U Tin Kha of News and Periodicals Enterprise, Director (News) U Hla Tun and officials, Second Secretaries of the Chinese Embassy Mr Zhang Yang Gen and Ms Shi Ying.

Members of the delegation were Senior Editor of Dalian People’s Broadcasting Station Mr Wei Wendong, Editor-in-Chief of Zhejiang Sports Newspaper Mr Li Liejun, Editor-in-Chief of Shanxi, Sanjin Industrial & Commercial Newspaper Mr Zhu Yunzhong, Deputy Director of the Editorial Office of Health Newspaper Mr Zhou Bing, Senior Reporter of Henan Daily Mr Jin Zhiyi, Chief Editor of China Press Journal Mr Liu Zhanyuan and Officer of ACJA (English Interpreter) Mrs Liu Yingling.

The Chinese delegation will stay in Myanmar one week and visit Yangon, Bagan-NyaungU, Popa, Mandalay and Sagaing.


(9) Soe Kyaw Naing emerges champion in First leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour

YANGON, 27 Aug- Soe Kyaw Naing today won the first prize with a total four-day aggregate of 285 in the Professional Division of the First Leg of Myanmar

2000- 2001, organized by Myanmar Golf Federation and Myanmar Professional Golfers Association and sponsored by Rothmans of Pall Mall Myanmar Pte Ltd at Bagan Resort Golf Club in Mandalay Division. Pre s e n t were President of MGF Brig-Gen Win Hlaing gave a speech at the prize presentation ceremony of the tour. Also present were executives of MGF and spectators.

Director of Yangon Airways U Khin Maung Kyi and the Secretary-General of MGF presented daily best score awards to Soe Kyaw Naing, Thant Zin, Nay Win Myint, Yin Htwe, Win Naing Tun, Aung Win, Tun Tun and Min Naing.

President of MGF Brig-Gen Win Hlaing presented first, second and third prizes to Soe Kyaw Naing with 285 strokes, Win Naing Tun 288 and Win Aung 292 respectively in the Professional Division.  Chairman of NyaungU District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Khin Maung Oo presented first, second and third prizes to Min Naing with 289 strokes, Zaw Zaw Lat 293 and Zaw Paing Oo 296 respectively in the Amateur Division.   Managing, Director of Rothmans of Pall Mall Myanmar Pte Ltd Mr Arend Ng presented a cheque for the prize to Soe Kyaw Naing and gift to Bagan Resort Golf Club Manager U Aung Myint.

Tiger Beer, Yangon Airways, Cannon, Star Cola, Kaytumadi Dynasty Hotel and Wilson jointly sponsored the tour with the aims to raise the standard of Myanmar golf, to turn out golfers of new generation, to promote friendship among golfers and to enable them to be on a par with those from other nations. The tour was organized by Han Golf Masters Pte Ltd.


(10) Seminar on Reclide (Gliclazide) and Denfos (Alendronade) medicines held

YANGON, 27 Aug-A seminar on Reclide (Gliclazide) and Denfos (Alendronade), produced by Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd of India and to be distributed by the Great Eastern Myanmar Ltd with the permission of the Ministry of Health, was held at Sedona Hotel this morning.

Present were Director-General of Health Department Dr Wan Maung, officials, Economics Manager Mr Karun Gaur of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd and Director of the Great Eastern Myanmar Ltd U Hla Kyi. Mr Karun Gaur presented K 400,000 for Heath Department to Director-General Dr Wan Maung.

Col Ye Thway of No 2 Military Hospital presided over the seminar in the morning session. Dr Tint Swe Latt of Yangon General Hospital and Professor Mr Prasanna Kuma of India briefed on treatment with Reclide.

Obstetrician and Gynecologist retired professor U Soe Myint presided over the afternoon session. Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr Win Win Mya of North Okkalapa Hospital and Professor Mr Prasanna Kuma presented a demonstration on the use of Denfos and answered the queries.


(11) 13 Taze Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 27 Aug-Thirteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Taze Township, Sagaing Division. Thirteen members of Taze Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Taze Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 22 January 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.


(12) 218,000 stimulant tablets, 2 kilos of chemical powder seized in Kengtung

YANGON, 27 Aug-A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, at; Tarpin toll gate in Kengtung, Southern Shan State, on 9 August 2000, searched a Hilux car with number plate No 9Ka/ 3872 with Aik Tun at the wheel, son of U Thein Pe, and Aik San, son of U Aik Hsan, as passenger and seized 218,000 stimulant tablets bearing "WY"and 2 kilos of chemical powder. Action is being taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
