(1) Secretary-l inspects monastic education schools in Mayangon TownshipYANGON, 20 Aug-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at Yadana Beikman monastic education school in Kyaukyaydwin in Ward 5, Mayangon Township, this evening. The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Secretary of Yangon City Development Committee and officials. The Secretary-l paid obeisance to Presiding Sayadaw of Yadana Beikman monastic education school Bhaddanta Sandobhasa and fulfilled the need The Secretary-l and party inspected construction of two-storey school and gave instructions.
Altogether 165 children including 74 Shan, Pa-O and Kayin Samaneras and boys are attending the school. The Secretary-l and party went to Padauk Shwe Wa monastic education school in ward 5 in Mayangon Township. The Secretary-l inspected construction of the building for Presiding Sayadaw and gave instructions. The Secretary-l paid obeisance to Presiding Sayadaw Maha Saddhammajotikadhaja Bhaddanta Pawara and fulfilled the requirements. Altogether 748 schoolboys and schoolgirls including 100 Shan and Pa-O boys and Samaneras are attending the school. The Secretary-1 and party left Padauk Shwe Wa monastic education school in the evening.
(2) Multimedia teaching centres opened at BEHS No 1 & 2 in Tamway Township
YANGON, 20 Aug-Ceremonies to open multimedia teaching centres of Basic Education High Schools No 1 and 2, Tamway Township, were held at- respective schools this morning, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt . The ceremony to open the multimedia teaching centre of Basic Education High School No 1 was held at the school at 9.00 am. Headmaster U Win Maw and Chairman of the School . Board of Trustees U Aung Hlyan formally opened the multimedia teaching centre.
The Secretary-l formally unveiled the signboard of the multimedia teaching centre. Afterwards, the Secretary-l and party inspected the demonstrative media section room, the listening section room, the reading section room, the audio visual section room (language lab) the altar room, the domestic science room, the painting and arts room and the music room and the skill demonstration of the students. Next, the Secretary-1 singed in the visitors’ book. The Secretary- 1 and party, together with members of the school board of trustees and the parent-teacher association, well-wishers, the .headmaster and staff and students, posed for photos. The ceremony to open the multimedia teaching centre of Basic Education High School No 2 was held at the school at 10.00 am.

On behalf of BEHS No 1 and No 2, Headmaster of BEHS No 2 U Hla Myint reported on efforts for the opening of the multimedia teaching centres with a view to enabling students to pursue education of international standard.
On behalf of the school boards of trustees of BEHS No 1 and No 2, Vice-Chairman of the School Board of Trustees of BEHS No I U Tin Yee reported on participation of wellwishers and the people in fulfilling the requirements of modern pedagogic aids and needs of schools for the development of the well-rounded education for the students.
The Secretary-l and Minister for Education U Than Aung accepted donations towards the multimedia teaching centres of BEHS No 1 and No 2, The Secretary- 1 thanked parents, wellwishers, members of the school boards of trustees and teachers for their participation in opening the multimedia teaching centres.
(3) Secretary-2 receives Chinese entrepreneurs
YANGON, 20 Aug-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo received President Mr Ren Hongbin and party of China National Constructional & Agricultural Machinery import & Export Corporation (CAMC) at the Guest House of the Ministry of Defence at 11 am today.
Also present on the occasion were Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein, Deputy Minister for Agriculture U Ohn Myint and officials.They discussed sending engineers for running of Okkan and Yonseik sugar mills, availability of quality sugar-cane strains, completion of the agreements for purchasing steel beams of Ayeyawady River bridge (Magway) and arrangements for transportation of the steel beams and matters related to the wharf construction project.

(4) Secretary-2 accepts donations for Hsandawkyo Aplanpya Pagoda
YANGON, 20 Aug- A ceremony to present cash for offering Shwethingan and for renovation of Hsandawkyo Aplanpya Pagoda was held at Aplanpya Monastery this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe.
Also present were Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Soe Thein, Chief of Staff (Air) Maj-Gen Myint Swe, senior military officers and wellwishers The congregation received the Five Precepts from Secretary of Dagon Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw of Aplanpya Monastery Sasanadhaja Dhammacariya Bhaddanta Sirinda.The Secretary-2 and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe and party presented offertories to members the Sangha. Camp commandant of the Ministry of Defence Brig-Gen Hla Aung Thein supplicated on brief history of Hsandawkyo Alanpya Pagoda and arrangements for its renovation and offering Shwethingan. Recipient of the Medal for Excellent Performance in Social Field Thiha Thudhamma Manijotadhara U Thein Win and wife Thiha Thudhamma Theingi Daw Ni and family of Shwe Than Lwin Co presented K 2 million for offering Shwethingan to the Secretary-2. The Secretary-2 and military officers accepts the donations. The Sayadaw of Alanpya Monastery delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits. Next, the Secretary-2 , wife Daw Khin Than Nwe and well- washer U Thein Win Daw Ni (Shwe Than Lwin Family) presented "soon" _ to the members of the Sangha.
(5) Secretary-2 inspects Thakayta Jetty and Ahlon Wharf No 2
YANGON, 20 Aug-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected Thakayta Jetty and Ahlon Wharf No 2 this afternoon. The Secretary-2 and party arrived at Thakayta Jetty of Myanma Five Star Line in Thakayta Township at 2.30 pm today.
In the briefing hall, Managing Director of MFSL U Khin Maung Kyi reported on construction of the jetty, the capacity of freight-handling and plans to be carried out. Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint explained the construction of the jetty in detail, and the Secretary-2 gave necessary instructions. Then, the Secretary-2 and party headed for Ahlon Wharf No 2 and heard the report on the construction of Ahlon Wharf No 1 and No 2, the use of the wharf and the construction of container yard by Managing Director of Asia World Port Management Co Ltd U Tun Myint Naing.
Then the Secretary-2 and party inspected the wharf and construction of the container yard.
(6) Secretary-3 attends opening of Winthuza Shop in Bago
YANGON, 20 Aug-Winthuza shop of the Ministry of Industry- I was opened in Bago this morning, attended by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint.
First, Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung unveiled the signboard of the shop. Chairman of Bago District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myo Tint and Managing Director U Ngwe Thaw of Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries formally opened the shop.
The Secretary-3 and guests looked round the shop. Products of Myanma Textile Industries, Myanma Foodstuff Industries, Myanma Pharmaceutical Industries, Myanma Ceramics Industries, Myanma General I and Maintenance Industries, Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries, Ministry of Industry-l, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries are on sale at the shop. Ministry of Industry-1 has opened Winthuza Shops in Kyaukses, Meiktila, Pyay Pakokku and Bago in accord with the guidance of the head of State with the aim of enabling the people to consume the quality products of the ministry at fair prices and substituting the import. Plans are under way to open the shops in other cities. Then, the commander and CEC member Brig-Gen Ohn Myint discussed matters related to politics, economy and social relations.

(8) Minister for Health leaves for Nepal
YANGON, 20 Aug-A delegation led by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein left for Nepal to attend the 1 8th Meeting of the Health Ministers and High ranking Officials of WHO in South-East Asian Region to be held at Kathmandu, Nepal from 20 to 26 August this morning.
Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Ministers for Health Professor Dr Mya Oo and Professor Dr Kyaw Myint, Ambassador of Nepal General Satchit Shumshere J B Rana (Retd), directors-general of departments under the ministry, Residential Representative of WHO Dr Agostino Borra and relatives saw them off at the airport.
The delegation comprises Director-General Dr Kyi Soe Health Planning Department, Deputy Director- General Dr Hla Pe Department of Health and Deputy Director Dr Pe Thet Tun of Health Planning Department and Director Dr Ohn Kyaw of Foreign Relations Division.
(9) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of LPDR arrivesYANGON, 20 Au-At the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, the Lao delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic arrived here this morning to attend the Fifth Meeting of the Myanmar-Lao Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation to be held in Yangon from 21 to 22 August. They were welcomed at the airport by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win, Lao Ambassador Mr Ly Bounkham members of the embassy and officials of the ministry.

(10) Minister inspects livestock breeding plantations in Bago Division
YANGON, 20 Aug-Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, together with Head of Bago Division General Administration Department U Chit Maung, Commander of Divisional Police Force Police Col Aung Gyi and officials, inspected "Ye-ar-man" integrated livestock breeding and agriculture farm of the Divisional Police Force, Maternal and Child Welfare Association of the Divisional Police Force, the primary health and maternity hospital and plantations of Division and Township General Administration Departments in Hinthagon Ward, Bago Division, this morning.
The minister gave instructions on carrying out livestock breeding and agriculture tasks with plans, selling surplus crops, meat and fish to the public at fair prices, doing breeding and cultivation work on a manageable scale, performance of police duties.
(11)Special water supply project in three divisions and five-year rural road and bridge project coordinated
YANGON, 20 Aug-A coordination meeting on implementation of the special water supply project in three divisions and the five-year rural road and bridge project was held at Mandalay Division Development Committee this morning, attended by Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt. Minister Col Thein Nyunt said the water supply project for all rural areas will be undertaken in accord with the guidance of Head of State Senior General Than Shwe.
Director-General of Development Affairs Department Col Myo Myint reported on rural roads and bridges, the water supply project and the budget. The directors of Sagaing, Magway and Mandalay Division Development Committees reported on arrangements for water supply. The minister and the director general gave instructions.

(12) Talks on health education for girls held
YANGON, 20 Aug-Talks on health education for girls, jointly organized by Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Ranbaxy Co Ltd, was held at MMCWA building at the corner of Thanthuma and Parami Roads in South Okkalapa Township this afternoon. Present were Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe members of Central Executive Committee, Country Manager Mr Neerag Sharma of Ranbaxy Co Ltd and officials, students and teachers of Latha Basic Education High School No 2, Sangyoung BEHS No 2, Institute of Education Practising School, Kyauktan BEHS No 2, South Okkalapa BEHS No 1, Bahan BEHS No 1, Kamayut BEHS Nos 1 and 2, Botahtaung BEHS No 5, Tamway BEHS No 4, Pabedan BEHS No 1, Kyauktada BEHS No 1 and Mayangon BEHS No 5. MMCWA Chairperson Prof Daw Kyu Kyu Swe gave an opening speech. Lecturer of Institute of Medicine-2 pediatrician of North Okkalapa Hospital Dr Daw Khin Htwe gave lecture on children and anemia. Then, Joint-Secretary of MMCWA Dr Nwe Oo explained facts about women and anaemia and answered the queries.
(13) 16 Ngapudaw Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 20 Aug-Sixteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Ngapudaw Township, Ayeyawady Division.
Sixteen members of Ngapudaw Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Ngapudaw Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 5 August 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
(14) Five chosen for Tiger Cup soccer kick
YANGON, 20 Aug . Five players from Lower Myanmar were chosen this afternoon for tentatively the First Tiger Beer Million Baht Kick which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, at the first interval of final match in the Third ASEAN Tiger Cup soccer tournament. Altogether ten selections from ASEAN ten countries will take part in the kick of the Tiger Cup Soccer Tourney.
The five persons were Soe Moe Kyaw (old national selected), Thein Myint Aung (Lanmadaw Township), Moe Kyaw Thu (Energy/Oil) Aung Kyaw (SPED) and Tun Tint Aung (coach, Myanmar Football Federation). Another five will be chosen from Upper Myanmar on 26 and 27 August 2000 at the Bahtoo sports ground.
Of the ten tentatively selected persons, only one person will be selected on 9 September 2000 at the Padomma sports ground in Sangyoung Township for the million baht kick.
