(1) Secretary-l and wife attend reception to mark Independence Day of IndonesiaYANGON, 17 Aug-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe attended the reception to mark the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia hosted by Ambassador of Indonesia to the Union of Myanmar Mr Nasaruddin Mochtar Koro and wife at the Summit Parkview Hotel on Ahlon Road at 6.30 pm today. Also present on the
reception were ministers, deputy ministers, diplomats and their wives of foreign embassies in Yangon and guests.
(2) Secretary-2 meets with livestock breeding entrepreneurs
YANGON, 17 Aug-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo discussed
matters related to development of the livestock breeding sector with livestock breeding entrepreneurs in the meeting hall of the Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise in Insein Township this afternoon.The Secretary-2 said that the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries is striving for all-round development of livestock breeding.
More and more plans are being made to develop the livestock breeding sector all the more.
Subcommittees formed to assist in efforts for the development of the livestock breeding sector, are required to implement the plans effectively and speedily. Availability of quality pedigree and supply of feedstuff and veterinary medicines are of great importance for the livestock breeding sector.
The meeting will surely contribute to the development of the livestock breeding sector as departmental officials from states and divisions and livestock breeding entrepreneurs have come to attend the meeting.
The Secretary-2 gave instruction on the work. Commander Maj- Gen Khin Maung Than and ministers also took part in the discussion on the development of the livestock breeding sector.
(3) Secretary-2 attends opening of IMCP Expo' 2000
YANGON, l7 Aug-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the
opening ceremony of the International Multiplex Consumer Products Expo' 2000, Yangon, Myanmar held with the permission of Ministry of Commerce and the assistance of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute at 8 am today.It is being held at Tatmadaw Convention Centre under the sponsorship of New Grace International Exhibition Services Co Ltd and national entrepreneurs First, Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and Director of the company U Lakhari Hla Aung formally unveiled the signboard.
Mr Laurance Crowe presented a commemorative pennant to the Secretary-2. Then, Managing Director of Diamond Bridge Co Ltd Daw Cho Nwe Oo explained facts about the exhibition. The Secretary-2 the ministers and deputy ministers toured the booths.
The exhibition will display electronic, devices, clothes, air conditioners, leather goods, mattress, stationery, furniture, computer products and so on from 10 am to 6 pm from 17 to 20 August. Admission is free and the visitors will be entertained with Myanmar Marionette of Htoo Cha Cooperative Ltd accompanied by Myanmar Orchestra.

(4) Secretary-2 receives guests from PRC
YANGON, 17 Aug-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo received
Deputy General Manager Mr Pi Anrong of China National Machinery & EquipmentCorporation (Group), Vice-President Mr Lu Wen Jun of China National Heavy Machinery Corporation and party at the Guest House of Ministry of Defence at 1.20 pm today. Also present at the call were Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint and officials.

YANGON, 17 Aug-Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung met President Assistant Mr Xiang Chun of China Metallurgical Construction (Group) Corporation and party at his office at 5.30 pm today. (7) Myanmar delegation arrives back
YANGON, 17 Aug-Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, department Recovery of Economy in ASEAN Nations and Cooperation Monetary Matters held in Jakarta, Indonesia on 15-16 August at the airport this evening. The delegation comprised Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun and Vice-Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Than Lwin.
(8) Mogok gets CDMA mobile cellular phone system
YANGON, 17 Aug - Myanma Posts and Telecommunications launched CDMA mobile cellular phone
system in Mogok on 14 August, enabling people from Mogok and Kyatpyin to make direct internal and external dialling easily.One radio station each was installed in Mogok and Kyatpyin; and each station can operate 500 CDMA lines at a time. Both stations are connected with new Loilem-Kyenitaung-Dawnankyitaung microwave link which is joined with main exchange in Mandalay via Loilem microwave station. Loilem microwave station is located on Mandalay-Lashio microwave link. MPT spent US $ 450,000 and over K 10.8 million in setting up the CDMA mobile cellular phone system in Mogok, the gem land in Mandalay Division, and over US $ 500,000 and K 17.19 million in installing new Loilem-Mogok digital-wave link. Minister
for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin gave a speech at the opening ceremony held in Mogok at 8 am the same day. Commandeer of No 2 Mobile Tactical Operations Command Lt- Col Thein Hlaing, officials of MPT, and Daimaru o and Fujitsu Co of Japan, and local elders were also present. The minister presented gifts to MPT staff who had taken part in the project. Engineers of MPT
explained sending of facts and data through CDMA system. The next day, the minister left Mogok distributed in Mogok and Mandalay where he inspected installation of phone lines in Pyigyitagun Township and its industrial zone. At No Industrial Zone, minister observed installation of a 4000 line
capacity auto exchange. Officials explained plans to extend the phone lines.
(9) Work coordinated to reduce number of pending cases
YANGON, 17 Aug-The Lower Myanmar Supervisory Committee of the Pending Cases Study Advisory
Committee held a meeting on reducing the number of pending cases at the meeting hall of the Supreme Court this morning. Present were Deputy Chief Justice U Than Oo, Justice of the Supreme Court U Tun Shin, the director-general and directors of the Supreme Court, the director-general of the Attorney-
General's Office, the police chief of staff, the deputy director-general of the General Administration
Department, the deputy director general of the Prisons Department, the director-general of the Bureau of Special Investigation and judges of states, divisions and districts. Deputy Chief Justice U Than Oo made an opening speech. Then, a general round of discussions followed The meeting ended at 3.00 pm.TOP
(10) Conveyance of Image onto Mindhamma Hill begins
YANGON, 17 Aug-Engineers and workers of Myanma Railways and Myanma Electric Power Enterprise
today began their tasks to convey Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image from Natpanyahta (train) to the retaining wall, the first step to lift the Image onto the throne on Mindhamma Hill.The work was done under the close supervision of Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung. As in the previous days, the hill and its surrounding area in Insein Township, Yangon Division, today was crowded with monks, nuns, lay persons and tourists visiting the 500-ton marble Image. Monks, nuns
and members of religious associations recited Parittas from dawn to dusk. The fund-raising subcommittee opened a donation centre on the hill beginning 5 August for the convenience of well-wishers who wish -to make donations in cash or kind to the fund of the Image. Up to date, the centre
has received over K 19 million as donations.
(11)Medicines donated to Medical Unit
YANGON, 17 Aug-A ceremony to present medicines to Medical Unit, donated by Soe Soe Fong Co and Toe Tet Win Co, was held at the office of Defence Services Medical Research and Development Committee this morning.
It was attended by Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Staff Officer (Grade I) Lt-Col Ye Tint, Medical Superintendent of Defence Services General Hospital Col Tin Thein Lwin, Commandant of No 2 Military Hospital (500 bed) Col Min Naing, Commandant of Defence Services Obstetrics and Gynecology and Children's Hospital Lt-Col Thein Dan, Commandant of No 1 Medical Store Depot Lt-Col Thein Soe, officials and donors.
Soe Soe Fong Co presented medicines worth over K 2.9 million and Toe Tet Win Co Ltd medicines worth K 50,000 to Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han who presented certificates of honour to the donors and expressed gratitude.
(12)13 kilos of Ephedrine powder seized in Mandalay
YANGON, 17 Aug-Members of local intelligence unit, laying in wait on information at 80th Street (41st and 42nd Streets), Mandalay on 2 August and searched and arrested Kyaw Myint Lwin and Maung Maung Latt, son of U Win Myint, of Yehtwat Village, Patheingyi Township, Mandalay, who were at the spot for drug trafficking together with 13 kilos of Ephedrine powder.
Further information led to the arrest of Thein Win, son of U Maung Naing, of Zaydan Ward 2, Tamu and U Nyo Thein, son of U Ba Aung, and his son Tun Tun Min, of Sawbwa 1st Street, Tamu. Action is being taken against the five according to law.
Drug trafficker gets fifteen years
YANGON, 17 Aug-A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and local Myanmar Police Force personnel, acting on information, while waiting at 82nd Road, between 28th and 29th Streets, Mandalay searched Ma Aye Aye Win, 40, of Chanayethazan Township, and arrested her
together with 78.25 grams of heroin at 10 am on 3 December 1999. The No 8 Police Station, Mandalay, filed her under section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The Mandalay District Court handed down fifteen years' imprisonment under Section l9'(A) on her on 1 Aug 2000.TOP
(13) 47 Myinmu Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 17 Aug-Forty-seven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Kankaw Village-tract, Myinmu Township, Sagaing Division. Forty-seven members of Myinmu Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Myinmu Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 9 February 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
(14) Over 512,000 eligible voters of five townships in Pakokku District unanimously petition for dissolving NLD
YANGON, 17 Aug - Voters from five townships of Pakokku District, Magway Division, unanimously expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it at the sports ground in Pakokku, in the district on 31 July. Over 54,000 local people rallied at the sports ground in Pakokku Township on 31 July.
On behalf of attendance's, U Aye Ko from ward 13 in Pakokku Township expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Myint Aung, on behalf of local people of Seikphyu Township, U Aung Than, on behalf of local people of Myaing Township, U San Myint, on behalf of local people of Yezagyo Township, U Khin Maung Than, on behalf of local people of Pauk Township and U Myint Kyaing, on behalf of local people of Pakokku Township presented petitions signed by the people to member of Pakokku District Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Daw Mya Shwe. Then, President of rally U Tin Win announced the documents of five townships. The
ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan --Our Three Main National Causes. There are S2,312 eligible voters in Seikphyu Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it,-was 40,234 voters or 92.22 per cent.There are 119,557 eligible voters in Myaing Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it, was 118,726 voters or 99.30 per cent.
There are 116,370 eligible voters in Yezagyo Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it, is 115,439 voters or 99.20 per cent. There are 85,836 eligible voters in Pauk Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it, was 79,458 voters or 92.57 per cent.
There are 153,732 eligible voters in Pakokku Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it, was 51,129 voters or 98.31 per cent. In Pakokku District,- a total of 512,986 eligible voters of Pakokku District unanimously expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it.

(15) Coordination meeting on participation in XXI SEA Games held
YANGON, 17 Aug-A coordination meeting on making preparations for the XXI South-East Asian Games, which will be held in Malaysia in September 2001, was held at Padamya Hall in National Indoor Stadium I this afternoon, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint.
Also present on the occasion were General Secretary of MOC Director-General of Sports and Physical
Education Department U Thaung Htaik and officials, and the Presidents and secretaries of the respective Sports Federations. First, the minister extended greetings.Then, U Thaung Htaik explained facts about sport events of XXI SEA Games and events which Myanmar will participate.
Afterwards, the Presidents of respective Sports Federations presented arrangements being made for the events.
Later, the minister urged officials to make concerted efforts to meet the standard of sports in XXI SEA Games and attended to their needs.
