(1) State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe, Vice-Chairman General Maung Aye send felicitations to IndonesiaYANGON, 17 Aug-On the occasion of the anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia which falls on 17 August 2000, messages of felicitations have been sent from Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar to His Excellency Mr Abdurrahman Wahid, President of the Republic of Indonesia and from General Maung Aye, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar to Her Excellency Madame Megawati Soekarnoputri, Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia.

YANGON, 16 Aug- Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by ministers, the Chief of Staff (Air), the deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department and officials, left here by Tatmadaw aircraft yesterday afternoon and arrived at Hinthada in Hinthada District, Ayeyawady Division at 1.45 pm yesterday.
Then, the opening ceremonies of multimedia teaching centres of Basic Education High School No 4 and No 2 in Hinthada were held at respective schools in the afternoon, attended by Secretary- 1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. The opening ceremony of multimedia teaching centre of No 4 BEHS in Hinthada
Township was held at 2.20pm.School Head Daw Than Nwe and Chairman- of School Board of Trustees U Tun Aung formally opened the multimedia teaching centre. Then, Secretary- I Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt pressed the button to unveil the signboard of multimedia teaching centre. The Secretary- 1 and party inspected the prayer room, language lab, computer training and e-mail, computer aided instruction, printed media, audio system, projected media, domestic science room, and painting room and music and arts rooms.
He then signed in the visitors book of the school. Then, the Secretary-1 and party posed for souvenir photo together with members of School Board of Trustees and Parent Teacher Association, school heads, teachers and students.
The Secretary-1 and party arrived at BEHS No 2 in Hinthada Township. The opening ceremony of the multimedia teaching centre was held at Basic Education High School No 2 at 3 pm.
Headmistress Daw Kyu Kyu and Chairman of School Board of Trustees U Maung Maung Soe formally opened the centre. Then, Secretary- 1 Lt-, Gen Khin Nyunt unveiled the signboard of the teaching centre. The Secretary- 1 and party inspected aided-media, printed media, audio visual media, language lab, projected media, non-printed media, prayer hall and music rooms and skills demonstration of students in the school. Afterwards, the opening ceremony of multimedia teaching centres of No 2 and No 4 BEHSs was held at No 2 BEHS in Hinthada. Then, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented video tapes and cassette tapes to the Township Education Officer U Htay Aung.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary-1 said. After the ceremony, the Secretary-l and party had a photo taken together with members of School Board of Trustees and Parent-Teacher Association, headmasters and teachers and students.
Then, the Secretary- l met members of Division, District and Township Peace and Development Councils and division/district/township level staff at Myanadi Guest House in Hinthada and gave instructions on agricultural sector.
Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Man reported on agricultural, educational, health and social conditions the Division. A ceremony to donate rice to Pariyatti Sarthintaiks in Hinthada Township, Ayeyawady Division, was held in the precinct of Maha Atula Sakkyaransi Sedawgyi Image this morning, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Vice-Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Thathanabaing Sayadaw administered the five Precepts to the congregation. Then, the Secretary-l and party presented offertories to the Sayadaws. Vice-Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Thathanabaing Sayadaw delivered
a sermon. Afterwards, the Secretary- 1 paid homage to Maha Atula Sakkyaransi Sedawgyi Image. Next, the Secretary-l presented cash to the Image and signed in the visitors book. Then, Secretary- I and party, accompanied by Member of State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council commander Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann arrived at Kyangin at 9.35 am. The Secretary-1 delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of multimedia teaching centre at
Kyangin BESH at 9.50 am. The headmistress and Member of School Board of Trustees U Sew Andrew Pan formally opened the multimedia teaching centre. Then, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt formally unveiled the signboard of the multimedia teaching centre.Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party inspected Computer Aided Instruction, Computer Application & E-mail, Electronic Media (Video system), Language Lab, Printed media, domestic science, drawing rooms and arts rooms and observed skill demonstration of students. The Secretary-l congratulated Maung Aung Kyaw Thu of Myaukchawgon Joint BEHS and Ma Chan Myae Lin of Kyangin BEHS who
got five distinctions and Ma Hlaing Mar Wai Tun of Kyangin BEHS who got four distinctions in the matriculation examination, 2000. Secretary of School Board of Trustees U Khin Zaw explained the plans to open the centre with the instructions of local authorities and the coordination and donation of social organizations and well-wishers The Secretary-l and party went to Kyangin Cement Plant where they were welcomed by Managing Director of Myanma Ceramics Industries U Than Shwe and officials.Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung reported on work of the cement plant.

The Secretary-l and Minister for Education U Than Aung had souvenir photo taken together with Ma Myat Theingi Swe, a five distinctions winner of BEHS in Myanaung and second in the 2000 Matriculation Examination. The Secretary- I and party inspected art studio, visual presenter, printed media and music room.
The Secretary-l then presented a video tape and cassette tape to Headmistress Daw Aye Myint Thein.
The Secretary- 1 then signed in the visitors book and spoke on the occasion. The Secretary-1 and party had souvenir photo taken together with members of the School Board of Trustees, members of PTA, Headmistress, teachers and students. (3) Secretary-2 inspects construction projects, farming land of national entrepreneurs in Magway DivisionYANGON, 16 Aug-Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, the ministers, the deputy ministers, Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council and departmental officials, went to the site of Ayeyawady Bridge (Magway) Construction Project on 15 August.
The Secretary-2 and party inspected construction of approach bridge on the side of Magway. Minister
for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun reported on Ayeyawady Bridge (Magway) Construction Project. Superintending Engineer (Project) U Han Zaw reported on implementation of the project and progress of work.Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Thein Zaw reported on assistance provided for the project. The Secretary-2 then gave instructions on construction of the bridge in accord with the set standard, work site safety and efforts for early completion of the bridge He then inspected construction of piers.
Ayeyawady Bridge (Magway) linking Magway Township and Minbu (Sagu) Township is 8,989 feet long. On completion of the bridge, there will be better transport not only for the east and west regions of Ayeyawady River but also for regions in Rakhine State and other states and divisions.
The Secretary-2 and Party left Magway for Salin Reservoir Project site in Salin Township by helicopter.
Director of Irrigation Department Construction-3 U Lun Maung reported on work done. Director-General of Irrigation Department U Kyaw San Win and Director (Design and Model) U Khin Maung Nyunt reported on the project and Brig-Gen Thein Zaw on matters on agriculture of the division and construction of small dams.
The Secretary-2 then fulfilled the requirements and inspected construction of canals and spillways and the main dam with the use of heavy machinery.
The Salin Reservoir which can irrigate 33,000 acres of land is being constructed for completion as targeted. The Secretary-2 and party left for the site for reclamation of fallow and virgin land of Dagon International Ltd in Pwintbyu Township.
The Secretary-2 and party inspected construction of Bodi Sangyoung Reservoir. Chairman of Dagon International Ltd U Win Aung reported on work. The Secretary-2 and party inspected harvesting of sesamum, cultivation of corn, Pesinngon and groundnut and land preparation. The Secretary-2 and party went to the briefing hall and inspected samples of sesamum, mustard and other crops.
Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin reported on assistance for agricultural work undertaken by Dagon International Ltd. Out of 36,675, a total of 4,500 acres of fallow and virgin land has been reclaimed in Yepokegyi and Chaungzon regions in Pwintbyu Township. This year, out of 6,000 acres, over 2,800 acres have been cultivated. The Secretary-2 and party went to the site for reclamation of follow and virgin land of Asia World Co Ltd in Tebokan region and Myanmar Billion group Co Ltd in Myosapho region, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing met service personnel of Division and District Police Forces, GAD, Special Investigation Department at Magway Division Peace and Development Council
Office and inspected GAD Division Office, District Office and Special Investigation Department Office.At Laydaingsin Dam Project in Yenangyoung Township, the Secretary-2 and party heard a report on progress in building the dam on Phaunggwe Creek near the village, development and greening of the region, presented by Brig-Gen Thein Zaw and officials.
The earth dam is 77 feet high and 1,950 feet long. It will irrigate 1,000 acres. In Natmauk Township, Secretary-2 and party inspected land reclamation project of Pyimaha Agriculture Co Ltd.
At the briefing hall, Chairman U Sein Aung of the company explained putting of 1,500 acres under various crops. The company was permitted to reclaim 5,901 acres in the township. During inspection of Palin Dam Project in Myothit Township, the Secretary-2 heard a report on points of the project which began in July, building of a cluster of dams in eastern Magway and plans to render assistance to the
project, presented by Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin and Brig Gen Thein Zaw.The dam 90 feet high and 4,260 feet long will irrigate 2,000 acres. The Secretary-2 gave instructions.
The dam is being built on Palin Creek west of Palin village in the township. At Sonchaung Dam Project, the Secretary-2 heard a report on building of a cluster of dams in eastern Magway in which Sonchaung Dam is included. The dam is being built on Sonchaung Creek two miles east of yebyintha village in Myothit Township.
Natmauk Dam, Palin Dam, Sonchaung Dam, Saddam Dam, Ngamin Dam, Yinmale Dam, Kinbuntaung Dam, Bangon Dam and Yanpai Dam are included in the cluster of dams. The project will irrigate 80,400 acres on completion. The Secretary-2 and party arrived back here in the evening.

(4) Secretary-2 attends cash donation ceremony for Abhidhaja Mawkun Beikmandaw in MagwayYANGON, 16 Aug-The second cash-donation ceremony for construction of Abhidhaja Mawkun Beikmandaw of Mahavisutaramataik in Magway was held at the Kyaungtaik this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Also present on the occasion were Secretary of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Presiding Sayadaw of Mahavisutaramataik and members of the Sangha, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, ministers, departmental officials and well-wishers.
Presiding Sayadaw of Mahavisutaramataik Bhaddanta Kumara invested the congregation with the Five
Precepts. Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party presented offertories to members of the Sangha.
Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Brig- Gen Thein Zaw accepted the donations. After the ceremony, Secretary-2 Lt-Tin Oo and party inspected Abhidhaja Mawkun Beikmandaw under construction.

(8) Devotees pay respects to Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image
YANGON, 16 Aug-The surrounding areas of Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township was crowded today with devotees paying respects to the Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image. Staff of Myanma Railways were making preparations to convey the Image onto the hill.
Members of the Sangha, nuns and members of wut association recited parittas. Public donations for the Image amounted to over K 18.37 million to date.
(9) Minister, Deputy Minister inspect Lake View Hospital
YANGON, 16 Aug-Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, Director-General U Nyunt Aye of Directorate of Trade, and officials, arrived at Lake View Hospital on Ring Road, here, at 2 pm today.
The minister and party were welcomed there by Medical Superintendent Dr Tun Aung Kyaw and responsible personnel. The minister and party inspected functions of the hospital, laboratories and operation theatres. Assisted by modern equipment , specialist of the hospital are giving treatment round the clock with reasonable room charges for warded patients.

YANGON, 16 Aug-Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San arrived at Tawkyaungkyi Village in ChaungU Township, Sagaing Division on 14 Aug. Minister U Aung San inspected sale centre of Shwepyisoe Agriculture and Economic Cooperatives Ltd. The minister met members of Board of
Directors and members of the cooperative at the meeting hall of the Sale Centre.He gave instructions to officials. Minister U Aung San went to Minywa Village in Monywa Township and inspected cultivation of Sima paddy and paddy field of Manaw Thukha Agriculture and Economic Cooperatives Ltd. The minister proceeded to Thiha Economic Cooperative Ltd and met Chairman and EC members. Minister U Aung San inspected oil, mill, garment factory and ice factory of Thiha Economic Cooperative Ltd.
(11) Stimulant tablets seized in TaunggyiYANGON, 16 Aug-A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information searched the house of Ma Nam Kham Hlaing of Chantha Ward in Taunggyi Township, Shan State (South) and arrested her together with 6,960 stimulant tablets bearing the word "WY" on 26 July. Action was taken against her in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

(12) Int' l Multiplex Consumer Products EXPO 2000 inspectedYANGON, 16 Aug- Members of Supervisory Committee for Libraries, Museums and Exhibitions of Information and Public Relation Department, Ministry for Information inspected the display of the International Multiplex Consumer Products Expo' 2000, Yangon, Myanmar to be held with the permission of Ministry of Commerce and the assistance of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute at 3.30 pm today.
Vice-Chairman of the committee U Aung San presented the permit for holding the exhibition, which will be staged at Tatmadaw Hall on U Wizara Road in Dagon Township, to Managing Director Mr Laurance Crowe of New Grace Int' l Exhibition Services Co Ltd. The Exhibition will display electronic devices, clothes, air-conditioners, leather goods, mattress, stationery, furniture, computer products and so on

(13) Over 313,000 eligible voters of three township in Pakokku District unanimously petition for dissolving NLDYANGON, 16 Aug- The voters from three townships of Pakokku District, Magway Division, unanimously expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it at six venues in the district on 12, 18 and 20 July. Over 2,500 local people rallied at the sports ground in Myaing Township
on 12 July.On behalf of attendance s, farmer U Mya Hlaing expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Shwe Nyo, on behalf of local people, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Subcommission U Than Aung.
Over 21,468 local people rallied at the sports ground of Basic Education High School at Kaitawma Village in Myaing Township on 12 July. On behalf of attendance s, farmer U Ngwe Maung expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer Daw Nyo, on behalf of local people, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Than Naing. There are 119,557 eligible voters in Myaing Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it, was 118,726 voters or 99.3 per cent .
Altogether 30,000 local people rallied at the Sports Ground in Yesagyo Township on 18 July. On behalf of attendance s, merchant U San Myint expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Tin Cho, on behalf of local people, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Myint Thein.
Altogether 25,000 local people rallied at Pakhangyi Village in Yesagyo Township on 18 July. On behalf of attendance's, merchant U Aye Bo expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Merchant U Kyi Sein, on behalf of local people, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Maung Ko.
There are 11 6,370 eligible voters in Yesagyo Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it, was 115,439 voters or 99.2 per cent.
Over 35,000 local people rallied at airport in Pauk Township on 28 July. On behalf of attendance s, farmer U Aung Kywe expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Khin Maung Than, on behalf of local people, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Dr Win Lwin. Over 31,001 local people rallied at the sports ground in Yaypya Village in Pauk Township on 20 July.
On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Nyo expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Merchant U Kyaw Win, on behalf of local people, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Moe Swe.
There are 85,836 eligible voters in Pauk Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it, was 79,458 voters or 92.57 per cent. In Pakokku District, a total of 313,623 eligible voters of three townships unanimously expressed no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it.

(14) 14 Shwedaung Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 16 Aug-Fourteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Shwedaung Township, Bago Division. Fourteen members of Shwedaung Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Shwedaung Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 15 June 2000 as they no longer wished to Participate in Din party politics of NLD.
