(1) Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image leaves for Mindhamma HillYANGON, 9 Aug-A ceremony to convey Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image from Gyogon Yadana Shwephaungdaw Jetty onto Mindhamma Hill through Mingal Natpan Yahta (train) was held at Mingala Mandat at the jetty this morning.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of member Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee led by Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddammajotika Myingsyan Koehsaungtaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita.
It was also attended by Daw Kyaing Kyaing, wife of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe, Daw Mya Mya San, wife of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and military officers, departmental officials and guests.
Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Pandita Mandalay, Masoeyeintaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sirindabhivamsa invested the congregation with the Nine Precepts. The Sayadaws and members of the Sangha recited Parittas; Offertories were presented to members of the Sangha.
Secretary Sayadaw of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Magway_ Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.
Then, Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Bhaddanta Sobhita and members of the Sangha, Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and officials sprinkled scented paritta water on the image.
Afterwards,- the ceremony to convey the image on board Mingala Natpanyin (train) was held. Op the -left a woman crowd led by Daw Kyaing Kyaing and on the right a man crowd led by the Secretary- 1 took respective places to pull Mingalar Natpanyin by means of Tamoakkyo (ropes) at the auspicious time. Meanwhile, U Sein Aung Min sang Yatupaikson song.
At the auspicious time at 8.45 am, Mingala Natpanyin left Gyogon Yadana Shwe Phaungdaw Jetty to Mindhamma Hill. After the ceremony, Daw Kyaing Kyaing and Secretary- 1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt performed rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the successes of the ceremony. Meanwhile, artistes sang Aungzay Paingzay song in unison.
(2) Secretary-1 meets Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister
YANGON, 9 Aug-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt Gen Khin Nyunt met Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Mr Sar Kheng and party at the Guest House of the Ministry of Defence at 2 pm today.
Also present together with the Secretary- 1 were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Deputy Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies and Deputy Director of Defence Services Intelligence Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win and Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet. The guests were accompanied by Ambassador of Royal Embassy of Cambodia Mr Nim Chantara.
(3) Secretary-l hosts dinner honour of Cambodian Deputy PM
YANGON, 9 Aug-Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt hosted dinner in honour of the visiting Deputy Prime Minister Mr Sar Kheng and party, currently here on a goodwill visit, at Karaweik Palace this evening.
The dinner was attended by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint, member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Hla, the ministers, the deputy ministers, senior Tatmadaw officers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, Ambassador of Cambodia Mr Nim Chantara and heads of departments.

(4) Sagaing Division distributes surplus amount of nine mi1ion baskets of paddy to other states and divisions this year Secretary-3 inspects plans to reclaim 1m acres in Sagaing Division
YANGON, 9 Aug-Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint inspected plans to reclaim one million acres of land in Sagaing Division yesterday and today.
Along the way, the Secretary-3 had an aerial view of the condition of Mandalay-Tagaung-Katha-Bhamo-Myitkyina Road and plans to reclaim land from the helicopter.
At Shweli Bridge (Ngaoh) Project on Mandalay-Tagaung-Katha-Bhamo -Myitkyina Road, the Secretary-3 told departmental personnel, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, teachers, students and local people about efforts being made to develop the economy based on agriculture, realization of the State’s goals and the 12 objectives and the development of the nation.
Officials of the project reported to the-Secretary-3 on type of the bridge, its location and progress in bore piling. The Secretary-3 gave counsel. Together with Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win, the ministers and officials, the Secretary-3 inspected the prospects of reclaiming land District, from the helicopter.
In Htigyaint Township, the Secretary-3 met with district and township level officials. Present were local authorities and officials of Katha District, Katha, Htigyaint, Indaw, Banmauk, Pinlebu, Wuntho and Kawlin townships, members of USDA, and other social organizations, teachers, students, and members of school board of trustees and parent-teacher association. Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win explained economic, social, management and commodity production of Sagaing Division, Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin agriculture of the entire nation and prospects to reclaim virgin, fallow and vacant lands in the division, and Chairman of Katha District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myint Naing area of the district, sown acreage and plans to reclaim land.
After looking into their requirements, the Secretary-3 explained developments in political, economic and social sectors, plans to transform vacant, virgin and fallow lands in the division into crop fields and conducting of livestock breeding on commercial scale.
On board the helicopters, the Secretary-3 and party had an aerial view of cultivated areas and prospects to reclaim land in Htigyaint, Pinlebu, Wuntho, Kawlin, Kyunhla, Kanbalu, Taze, YeU, Dabayin, Budalin and Monywa townships in Sagaing Division.
On arrival at Monywa, the Secretary-3 and party were welcomed by Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy Commander of North-West Command Brig-Gen Soe Myint and others.
The Secretary-3, together with the commander, ministers and departmental officials left Monywa for Khatetkantaung Village Maha Bodhi Tahtaung Kyaungtaik by helicopter.
The Secretary-3 and party paid respects to Maha Bohi Tahtaung Sayadaw Agga Maha Saddhammajotikadhaja Bhaddanta Narada and presented Waso robes, offertories and "soon" to the Sayadaws.
The Secretary-3 and party inspected reclamation of farmland on both sides of Sawme Creek in Taze Township and reclamation of land near the environs of Paungkadaung forest.
They arrived at Leikchan Village in Zeepauk Village in Taze Township. The Secretary-3 and party were welcomed by Tactical Operations Commander Col Min Swe and military officers, members of Township and Village Tract Peace and Development Councils, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and local people. The Secretary-3 gave instructions on cultivation and livestock breeding from manageable to commercial scale for regional and national economic development.
The Secretary-3 inspected sample soil and gave instructions. The Secretary-3 and party inspected reclamation of fallow and virgin land in reserve forests and location of fallow and virgin lands in Mawlaik and Phaungpyin Townships. The Secretary-3 and party arrived at Phaungpyin at noon.
The Secretary-3 met departmental officials at the meeting hall of Phaungpyin Township Peace and Development Council. Present were Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win, ministers and departmental officials of Mawlaik and Phaungpyin Township.
The Secretary-3 said as the region develops, economic progress of the entire people will improve. He called for cooperation with the people and regional management boards. The Secretary-3 and party arrived at Kalelay by helicopter in the evening.
The Secretary-3 and party spent the night at Aung Zeya Yeiktha of Kalay Station. The Secretary-3 and the commander met officers and Tatmadaw members at Aung San Hall of Kalay Station this morning. The Secretary-3, the commander, ministers and officials went to Tamu by helicopter. The Secretary-3 inspected forests in Kalay and Tamu farmlands. The Secretary-3 met departmental officials of Tamu District and Township.
Present on the occasion were Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win, ministers, officials of District and Township Peace and Development Councils, USDA members and guests. Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win reported on economic development of Sagaing Division and condition on agricultural production.
Lt-Col San Shwe Tha also reported on economic progress in Tamu District, meeting of the targets and The Secretary-3 explained about conditions of colonial periods and that after regaining independence and current political, economic and social developments tasks to be undertaken.
Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin reported on the ministry's assistance for agricultural development in Tamu District.
On arrival at Tamu, the Secretary-3 and party were welcomed by Chairman of Tamu District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col San Shwe Tha, Chairman of Tamu Township Peace and Development Council Captain Khin Maung Myint and officials. The Secretary-3 met departmental officials of Tamu District and Township. The Secretary-3 explained about conditions of colonial periods and that after regaining independence and current political, economic and social developments. The Secretary-3 and party inspected fallow and virgin lands along the road.
The Secretary-3 and party arrived back Kalay and met departmental officials. He spoke at length, o developments regarding political, economic and social affairs.
He urged local authorities to work in unity and to speed up momentum of progress. The Secretary-3 and party arrived back here in the evening.

(5) Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister visits Shwedagon National Museum
YANGON, 9 Aug-Visiting Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Mr Sar Kheng and party at the invitation of the Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and Ambassador of Royal Embassy of Cambodia Mr Nim Chantara, arrived at the northern stairway of the Shwedagon Pagoda at 8 am today.
They were welcomed by Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint and members of Pagoda Board of Trustees. The visiting Deputy Prime Minister Mr Sar Kheng and party offered flowers, lights and joss sticks to Buddha image at Aryonkhantazaung of eastern stairway of the pagoda. Deputy Prime Minister Mr Sar Kheng made a donation towards the pagoda funds.
Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint and members_ of Pagoda Board of Trustees accepted the donations and presented a picture of Shwedagon Pagoda to Mr Sar Kbeng. Then, Deputy Prime Minister Mr Sar Kheng signed in the visitors' book.
The visiting Deputy Prime Minister and party proceeded to Drug Abuse Control Museum on Hanthawady Road in Kamayut Township where they were welcomed by Chairman of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Secretary of the Committee Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win and members.
At the meeting hall, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing extended greetings. Joint-Secretary of the Committee Police Col Khan Aung explained facts about efforts for eradication of narcotic drugs in Myanmar and Committee member Col Kyaw Thein on the Tatmadaw’s drive for eradication of narcotic drugs.
Afterwards, Police Col Khan Aung replied to the questions of the Deputy Prime Minister. Minister Col Tin Hlaing delivered an address. The visiting Deputy Prime Minister Mr Sar Kheng spoke words of thanks. Then, Deputy Prime Minister Mr Sar Kheng and Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing exchanged gifts.
Minister for Home Affairs Col-Tin Hlaing hosted lunch in- honour of the Deputy Prime Minister and goodwill delegation at Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel in the afternoon. It was attended by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Minister for Progress of Border Are-as and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Deputy Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies and Deputy Director of Defence Services Intelligence Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, Head of the Office of Strategic Studies Col Kyaw Thien, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, officers, senior Police officers, department heads and Ambassador; of Royal Embassy of Cambodia Mr Nim Chantara. After lunch, The visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing exchanged gifts.
Officials conducted the visiting Deputy Prime Minister and party round the museum. Mr Sar Kheng signed in the visitors_ book. Then, Director-General U Myint Thein Swe presented a souvenir to the Visiting.

YANGON, 9 Aug-Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung met Miss Luo Yan and party of China National Constructional Agricultural Machinery Import and Export Corporation at his office this afternoon. Present at the call were Director General of Directorate of Industry U Tin Hlaing Managing Director of Myanma Ceramics Industries U Than Shwe and officials.
The minister also met Managing Director of Bridge Mackie Textile International Ltd Mr Desmond P Cullinane and party at 4 pm today.

(8) Fifth Inter Karatedo Tournament concludes
YANGON, 9 Aug. The final match of the Fifth Inter State/Division Karatedo Tournament organized by Myanmar Karatedo Federation was held in conjunction with prize-presentation ceremony at Aung San Gymnasium today, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint.
The Vice-President of MKF and officials presented prizes to outstanding athletes. Then, the cash-donation ceremony to MKF was held. The donations included K 100,000 by Managing Director Mr Shinji Arima of ES4E Land T.C and Daw Mya Mya; K 100,000 by Managing Director of Mingala Co Ltd Vice-Chairman of MKF U Zaw Min, and K100,000 and gifts by Managing Director of May Production and Distribution Group U Ye Htut. Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the well-wishers.

(9) PRC Deputy Minister leaves concludes visit
YANGON, 9 Aug- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peoples Republic of China Mr Wu Donghe and party left for home by air this morning. YANGON, 9 Aug-Delegates from Singapore, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam which are ASEAN member nations arrived here by air this evening to attend 9th ASEAN Youth Day Meeting in Myanmar. The delegate were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Division Staff Officer U Maung Maung Swe of Social Welfare Department and officials. Delegates from Brunei and Indonesia also arrived here yesterday evening.

(11) 15 NLD members of Pale Township resign of own accord
YANGON, 9 Aug-Fifteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Hngetpyawdaw Village, Pale Township, Sagaing Division. Fifteen members of Hngetpyawdaw Village NLD, Pale Township, Sagaing Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Pale Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-Commission and the party concerned on 6 March 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
(12) Voters of Paungde and Padaung Townships unanimously petition for dissolving pessimist NLD
YANGON, 9 Aug- The voters from Paungde and Padaung Townships, Pyay District, Bago Division (West) expressed no support for pessimist National League for Democracy and petitioned for dissolving NLD at rallies held at the seven venues in Paungde and Padaung Townships on 23 July.
A total of 14,700 people from 26 wards and villages attended the rally held at the sports grounds in Paungde. On behalf of attendance’s, U Nyan Win Thein of No I Market Ward expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Myint Than of Minkwet-2 Ward, on behalf of attendance’s, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General-Election Sub-commission U Tin Aung. The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan _Our Three Main National Causes.
Altogether 8,400 people from 13 village tracts at tended the rally held at Hmattaing Village sports grounds in Paungde. U San Maung of Nyaungbintha village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. U Maung Kyi of Hmattaing Village presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Htain Lin. The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan _Our Three Main National Causes. Similar ceremonies were held at Thaphangon and Kyanikan Villages in Paungde.
There are 78,619 people, who can vote, in Paungde Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for NLD and signed the petitions for dissolving it, was 72,782 people or 92.58 per cent.
Altogether were 11,601 voters from Padaung Townships expressed no support for pessimist National League for Democracy and petitioned for dissolving NLD at rallies held at the three venues in Padaung Township. There are 59,942 people, who can vote, in Padaung Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for NLD and signed the petitions for dissolving it, was 599,32 people or 99.98 per cent.
