(1) Privatization Commission holds Meeting No 2/2000 

YANGON, 7 Aug- Privatization Commission of the Union of Myanmar held its Meeting No 2/2000 in  the meeting hall of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) at the Ministry of Defence this afternoon, with an  address by Chairman of Privatization Commission Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development  Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present were Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, ministers,  the Attorney-General, the Auditor-General, deputy ministers, the director-general of the State Peace and  Development Council Office, heads of department and officials.

The Secretary-l said in accord with the guidance of Chairman of the State Peace and Development  Council Senior General Than Shwe, Privatization Commission was formed.

The aims of formation of the commission are to systematically transfer state-owned factories, plants and  enterprises to national entrepreneurs in accord with the economic policies of the State, thereby  encouraging the private sector as well as national economic forces, and to enable national people. to run  industries profitably.  The commission has been carrying out tasks for the development of the private  sector.

As regards transferring state-owned enterprises to the private sector, Head of State Senior General Than  Shwe gave guidance on thoroughly scrutinizing and extensively assessing the tasks of transferring factories  and plants under ministries in addition to cinemas.

Those present approved the minutes of the Commission's No 1/2000 meeting Director General of  Project Appraisal and Progress Reporting Department U Tin Hlaing reported on progress of  implementing the decisions of the Commission's No 1/2000 meeting.

The ministers, the deputy ministers and departmental heads reported on conditions of enterprises that  have been transferred and enterprises proposed to be transferred to entrepreneurs. Those present took  part in the discussions. The  meeting ended with concluding remarks by the Secretary- 1.
 


(2) Commander inspects agricultural and regional development tasks in Hlegu Township

YANGON, 7 Aug Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division  Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than  inspected agricultural and regional development tasks in Hlegu Township, Yangon North District this  afternoon.

First, the commander arrived at the office of Hlegu Township Peace and Development Council. He was  welcomed there by Col San Aung of Than of No 11 LID Chairman Lt-Col San Matu of Yangon North  District Peace and Development Council and officials.

In meeting with township level departmental officials, the commander gave instructions on timely  cultivation of post monsoon paddy, the tasks for the yield of 100 baskets per acre, weeding and applying  fertilizers, organizing and educating farmers for growing high-yield paddy strains, fencing in wind-breaks  planted on both sides of roads in Hlegu Township. Afterwards, the commander inspected weeding and  applying fertilizers in the farms at Dayebo Village, Hlegu Township. He also cordially met with the  farmers.

In .Hlegu Township, monsoon paddy will be cultivated on 88,525 acres this year. A total of 81,687  acres of land, 92.47.percent of the 0 target, has been placed under monsoon paddy to -date. In Yangon  North District, out of 344,000 targeted acres, 319838 acres, 93 percent of the target, has  been-cultivated up to now.

(3) Ministers meets Ambassadors

YANGON, 7 Aug Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha met  Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Union of Myanmar Mr Ubhayasekara Mapa at his office at 9 am  today. Also present at the call were officials of the ministry.

 Minister for Culture meets Ambassador of Philippines

YANGON, 7 Aug- Minister for Culture U Win Sein met Ambassador of the Philippines Mrs Phoebe A  gomez at his office this morning. Present were Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt,  Director-General of Department of Cultural Institute U Myint Thein Swe, Director-General of Fine Arts  Department U Kyaw Win, Deputy Director-General of Department of Archaeology U Tun Zaw, Rector  of University of Culture U Tin Soe and Officials.

Minister for Education meets Ambassador of Sri Lanka

 YANGON, 7 Aug- Minister for Education U Than Aung met Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Union of  Myanmar Mr Ubhayasekara Mapa at his office at 11.30 am today. They cordially discussed  cooperation in education between the two countries. Also present at the call were Deputy Minister U  Myo Nyunt and officials of the ministry.


(4)Minister for H&T meets Managing Director and party
 
YANGON, 7 Aug- Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj- Gen Saw Lwin met delegation led by  Managing Director Miss Maria Fong Lee of Emerald Rose Garden Ltd which is carrying out a plan on  building a new hotel on cent per cent foreign investment at his office at 11 am today. Also present at call  were the director-general, the managing director and officials of Departments and enterprises under the  ministry.


(5)  National Convention Convening Commission meets

YANGON, 7 Aug- National Convention Convening Commission held its meeting at the Commission  Office this afternoon. Present at the meeting were Chairman of National Convention Convening  Commission Mai-Gen Saw Lwin and members. Chairman of National Convention Convening  Commission Maj-Gen Saw Lwin spoke on the occasion. National Convention Convening Work  Committee and National Convention Convening Management Committee reported on matters related to  the National Convention. The members of the Commission took part in the discussions. Maj-Gen Saw  Lwin attended to the requirements and the meeting ended in the evening.

(6) Boiler Handlers Course,Typing Course open 

YANGON, 7 Aug- A ceremony to open the; Boiler Handlers Course No 5, organized by Industrial  Coordination and Inspection Department, was held at the training hall of the department on Kyaikwaing  Pagoda Road in Mayangon Township this morning, attended by Chairman of Myanma Industrial  Development Committee Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung. A total of 78 trainees are attending the  five-week course.

Similarly, the Typing Course No 4 was opened at the training hall of Ministry of Industry-1, with an  address by Minister U Aung Thaung.  Altogether 57 trainees are attending the six-week course.

In the evening, the minister, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Industry-l Brig-Gen Thein Tun and  Deputy Minister for Industry-2 Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw and departmental heads, arrived at Bicycle  Factory on Parami Road in Mayangon Township. The minister inspected Maung Bamar bicycles and  spare parts. Managing Director U Kyaw Win of Myanma Machine Tool and Electrical Industries  conducted the minister and party round the factory.
 


(7) Preparatory Workshop for Health Systems Research held

YANGON, 7 Aug- The Preparatory Workshop for Health Systems Research co-organized by  Department of Health, Ministry of Health and Leprosy Control Association, the Netherlands was held at  the meeting hall of Myanmar Medical Association on Theinbyu Road this morning.

Deputy Director-General (Public Health) Dr Soe Aung chaired the workshop and delivered a  speech.  Also present on the occasion were officials of Health Department, Medical Research  Department, Medical Science Department, regional officers and leaders of states and divisions  Anti-Leprosy Associations, researchers, professors, lecturers and experts from Leprosy Control  Association, the Netherlands. The attendance discussed implementing and giving priority to the plans  helpful to the success of current works on leprosy control. Dr Astrid Yan den Broek and Dr Jacques  Van den-Broek of the Netherlands will co-operate in the plans. The workshop will continue UD to 19  Auxust.


(8)  Fifth Inter-State Division Karatedo Tournament opens 

YANGON, 7 Aug- A ceremony to open the Fifth Inter-State/Division Karatedo Tournament, organized  by Myanmar Karatedo Federation, was held at Aung San Gymnasium this morning, with an address by  Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint.

Also present on the occasion were Acting Director-General of Sports and Physical Education  Department Lt-Col Thein Aung and officials, patrons of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation, patrons  of MKF, President U Khin Maung Tun, Vice-President U Zaw Min, Secretary-General and Staff  Officer of SPED U Soe Win and executives and spectators.

First, Yangon Division men's team and Mandalay Division women's team presented last year's  championship shields to the minister. Then, the minister gave a speech and opened the tournament.

Afterwards, Karatedo athletes recited Sports Oaths and sang Asia Myanmar song in unison.  On behalf  of Managing Director Dr Sai San Htun of Loi Hein Co Ltd, Director U Han Min Tun presented K  391,600 for MKF to Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint.  Then, selected Myanmar Karatedo athletes  and Myanmar Aikido Association demonstrated their skills.  Next, MAA presented gifts for MKF to  President U Khin Maung Tun.  Afterwards matches of the opening day were held.

(9)  Training given to systematic breast-feeding support groups

YANGON, 7 Aug - Training was given to systematic breast-feeding support groups at the multi-purpose  hall of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association at the corner of Thanthuma and Parami Roads  in South Okkalapa Township, Yangon East District, this morning.

It was jointly conducted in commemoration of World Breast-feeding Week by Myanmar Maternal and  Child Welfare Association and United Nation Children's Funds. Present at the opening ceremony were  Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Deputy Ministers Professor Dr Mya Oo and Professor Dr Kyaw  Myint, resident representatives of UN agencies, directors-general of departments under the Ministry of  Health, heads of department, Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe,  Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and executive committee members and members of the  support groups from respective townships.


(10)  Illegal drug traffickers get prison terms

YANGON, 7 Aug- A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit, Tachilek Anti  drug Squad and local Myanmar Police Force, acting on information searched the house of U Shauk Le  and Daw Yan Shauk San in Palian Ward, Taung Leik Village-tract in Tachilek Township and arrested  Shauk Le, Daw Yan Sbauk San,Lauk Si Htaik Saw and Ae together with 1,087,600 stimulant tablets,  one M 22 rifle and 20 rounds of ammunition, a Reminton shot-gun and 3 rounds of ammunition a .22  rifle and three rounds of ammunition The authorities found three pistols and 75 rounds of ammunition,  baht, yuan and kyat notes, gold-wears in a Ford car with number plate 3t Kha 4578 which was together  with a Toyota Vista car with number plate 3/Kha5147 under the house and a pistol and seven rounds of  ammunition on Shauk Le at 8.35 am on 24 May 2000.

On further investigation, 200,000 yuan was found at Room 10 of Shwe Lin Star Guest House. The  Tachilek Police Force filed Shauk Le, 43, of Pansai, Lauk Ae, 36 of Hom Aik Village; Lauk Kai  Township. Htaik Saw, 19, of Pansai, Daw Yan Shauk San,40, of Pansai under section 15/19 (A)20  /(A)22 (B) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

The Kengtung District Court handed down five years' imprisonment under Section 15 and sentenced to  death under Section 20 (A)2 2B) on Shauk Le and Lauk Ae, five year's imprisonments under Section IS  and twenty-five year's imperisoment under Section 20 (A)/21 on Lauk Si and Htaik Saw an d five  year's imprisonment under 15 and fifteen years' imprisonment under Section 20 (A)/21 on Daw Yan  Shauk San on 28 July 2000. All the imprisonment and sentences were to be served separately.

(11)  1.633 kilos of marijuana seized in North Okkalapa

YANGON, 7 Aug- A  combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Myanmar  Police Force, acting on information, waiting on Thanthuma and Thukhita Roads in North Okkalapa  Township on 23 July, seized drug traffickers Thein Win (a) Maw Si of 75/ B. Khaing Sabei Street;  Ward 7, Hlinethaya Township and Maung Tu, son of U Maung Sein, of No 151, Mudita 9th lane, Ward  2, North Okkalapa Township, together with two blocks of marijuana weighing 1.633 kilos. Action is  taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.


(12) 31 KhinU Township NLD members resign of own accord

YANGON, 7 Aug Thirty-One members resigned from the National League for Democracy of KhinU  Township, Sagaing Division. Thirty-One members of KhinU Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their  own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to KhinU Township Multiparty Democracy  General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 19 January 2000 as they no longer  wished to participate in party politics of NLD.


(13) Eligible voters of Natmauk Township unanimously petition for dissolving pessimist NLD

YANGON, 7 Aug- The voters from Natmauk Township, Magway Division, expressed no support for  pessimist National League for Democracy and petitioned for dissolving it at rallies in the township on 5  July morning.

A total of 4,600 voters from six village-tracts rallied in Tagundaing Village. On behalf of local people,  farmer U MYO Swe of Tagundaing Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for  dissolving it. U Zaw Khaing of Tagundaing Village, on behalf of attendances, presented petitions signed  by the people to Chairman of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Tun  Aye.

Similarly, 5,746 voters from six village-tracts rallied in Aingzauk Village. On behalf of local people,  farmer U Than Win of Kwingyi Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for  dissolving it. Farmer U Chit Hsaung of Aingzauk Village, on behalf of attendances, presented petitions  signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission  U Maung Maung.

Altogether 5,400 voters from five village-tracts rallied in Thahmyar Village.  On behalf of local people,  farmer U Bo Tint of Thahmyar Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for  dissolving it. Farmer U Nyan Shein of Thahmyar Village, on behalf of attendance, presented petitions  signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty

Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Thaung Swe. Likewise, 4,700 voters from five  village-tracts rallied in Monandaw Village. On behalf of local people, Daw Khin Mar Yi of Monandaw  Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Khin Maung  of Monandaw Village, on behalf of attendance, presented petitions signed by the people to Secretary of  Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Salai Mahn Lilyan. A similar rally  was attended by 6,450 voters from eight village-tracts in Phankhasan Village.    On behalf of local people, farmer U Myo Nyunt of Phankhasan Village expressed no support for  pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Kyee Hla of Phankhasan villages on behalf of  attendance, presented petitions signed by the people to Joint-Secretary of Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Hla Win.

A total of 5,880 voters from eight village-tracts rallied in Paunggongyi Village.

On behalf of local people Win Hlaing of Paunggongyi Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD  and petitioned for dissolving it. U Win Naing of Paunggongyi Village, on behalf of attendance, presented  petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election  sub-commission U Aung Sein. Likewise, 8,648 voters from seven village-tracts rallied in Pinn Village.

On behalf of local people, farmer U Aung Lin of Taungdaunt Village expressed no support for pessimist  NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Tun of Pinn Village, on behalf of attendances, presented  petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election  Sub-commission Dr Chit Thein.

Altogether 4,780 voters from eight village-tracts rallied in Thangon Village.  On behalf of local people,  farmer U Kyaw Min of Shwepandaw Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned  for dissolving it. Farmer Daw Khin Ma Ma Oo of Thazi Village, on behalf of attendances, presented  petitions signed by the people to Chairman of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election  Sub-commission U Ba Saw.

A total of 8,200 voters from six village-tracts rallied in Sainggaung Village.  On behalf of local people,  farmer U Hnya of Sainggaung Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for  dissolving it. Farmer U Zaw Min of Sainggaung Village, on behalf of attendances, presented petitions  signed by the people to Chairman of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission  U Soe Thein.

The ceremonies ended with chanting of the slogan Our Three Main National Causes.  There are 113,766  eligible voters in Natmauk Township. The number of people, who expressed no support for NLD and  signed the petitions for dissolving It, is 107,482 people or 94.47 per cent.
