(1) Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image put onto Mingala Natlan (track)YANGON, 6 Aug -A ceremony to put Mingala Natpanyin (trolley), on which Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image is kept, down from Thonlutaukpa Yadana Shwephaungdawgyi was held at Gyogon Jetty, Gyogon Ward, Insein Township, this morning.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of member Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee by Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Myingyan Koehsaungtaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita, Sayadaws of Yangon Division Sangha Nayaka Committee, Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.
On behalf of the Chairman Sayadaw of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Vice-Chairman Agga Maha Pandita Mandalay Masoeyeintaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sirindabhiyamsa invested the congregation with Nine Precepts. The Sayadaws and members of. the Sangha recited Parittas. Then the Secretary-1 supplicated on religious affairs.
At the auspicious time on 6 August, the Image on board Thonlutaukpa Yadana Shwephaungdawgyi will be put down on Mingala Natlan at the jetty. After the four days of preparation work the Image will be put onto Mingala Natpan Yahta (train), and conveyed to Mindhamma Hill.
At h Hill, where the Image will be kept, so many devotees are participating in voluntary work that there- is not enough room for all these people at the hill, the sight of which accentuates the significant characteristic of Myanmar people. Well-wishers are also offering drinking water, soft drinks and meals. Then, Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Daw Mya Mya San, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and Daw Khin Than Nwe, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and Daw Khin Cho Oo and party offered alms to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha led by the Chairman Sayadaw of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee.
Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara delivered a sermon, followed by the sharing of merits.
Afterwards, the ceremony to take the Image off Thonlutaukpa Yadana Shwephaungdawgyi onto Mingala Natlan was held.
On the left a woman crowd led by Daw Kyaing Kyaing and on the right a man crowd led by the Secretary-l pulled Mingalar Natpanyin by means of Tamoakkyo (ropes) to put down onto Mingala Natlan at the auspicious time.
Meanwhile, artistes sang Aungzay Paingzay song in unison. When Mingala Natpanyin was laid on Mingala Natlan, auspicious drums were beaten 37 times. Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Daw Mya Mya San, the Secretary-l and wife, the Secretary-2 and wife, the Secretary-3 and wife and dignitaries sprinkled scented water on the Image. The three time recitation of buddha sasanam ciram titthatu brought the ceremony to an end.
(2 ) Secretary-l inspects construction of Yangon Thanlyin Bridge No-2
YANGON, 6 Aug-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at the construction site of Yangon Thanlyin Bridge No-2 in Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township this afternoon. The Secretary-1 then gave instructions.
Director-General of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development U Arnt Kyaw reported on the finding of the axis of the road. The Secretary-l inspected finding of the axis of Yangon-Thanlyin Bridge No-2 and work done.
Yangon-Thanlyin Bridge No-2, which is of reinforced concrete type, will be built across Bago River. It will link Dagon Myothit Seikkan Township and Dagon Myothit Industrial Zone and Thanlyin-Thongwa Road through Kalawe Village of Thanlyin Township.
The four-lane bridge will be 3,940 feet long and 48 feet wide with a two six-foot walkways on either side and it can withstand 60 ton loads. On completion of the road, big container carriers can go to Dagon Myothit Industrial Zone, Thanlyin Thilawa Industrial Zone and Thilawa Port.
The Secretary-l and party inspected construction of the in-patient (cancer) central building of U Hla Sun Hospice (Cancer) Foundation in Dagon Myothit East Township.
(3) Over K 5 million donated to funds Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Image at Mindhamma Hill
YANGON, 6 Aug- Preparatory works are being made with the use of heavy machinery for conveyance of the Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Marble Image onto the throne on Mindhamma Hill in Insein Township today.
Thousands of devotees participated in the preparatory tasks on the hill. Well-wishers served the devotees with drinking water, banana, sweets, soft drinks, dumpling and vegetarian meals.
Well-wishers from various parts of the country donated cash towards the funds of the Image at the fund-raising centre on the hill. So far, donations by the public have amounted to 5.11 million kyats. On 5 and 6 August, well-wishers who arrived at the Gyogon Jetty to pay obeisance to the Image donated over 2 million kyats.
(4) PRC Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs arrives
YANGON, 6 Aug-At the invitation of Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Union of Myanma.r U _Khin Maung Win, a seven-member delegation led by Deputy Minister. of Foreign Affairs Mr Wu Donghe of the Peoples’ Republic of China arrived here by air this after noon.
The Chinese delegation was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Ambassador of China Mr Liang Dong and staff of the Chinese Embassy and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Chinese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs was accompanied by Deputy Director-General Mr Sun Guoxiang of Asian Affairs Department, Deputy Director-General Mr Wei Wenhua of Education and Training Office, Deputy: Director General Mr Cui Guocai of Service Centre and officials_ from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Peoples’ Republic of China.
At 2 pm, the Chinese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs called on Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win at Wungyi Padethayaza Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and discussed matters of mutual interest. At 3.15 pm, the Chinese Deputy Minister and party called on Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung at his office. In the evening, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win hosted a dinner at Karaweik Palace in honour of the Chinese Deputy Minister and party.
(5) Minister visits Shwedaung Textile and Finishing Plant
YANGON, 6 Aug-Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung, accompanied by departmental officials, arrived at Shwedaung Textile and Finishing Plant yesterday. The minister inspected the plant and gave necessary instructions.
Then, the minister inspected the functions of the plant. The minister gave instructions on supplying the requirements of Winthuza Sales Centres that have been opened in cities of Divisions and States, and production of clothing with designs which suit the tastes of people.
The minister unveiled the sign-board of Winthuza Sales Centre in Pyay this morning. Then, Chairman of Bago Division (Western Branch) Peace and Development Council Col Phone Swe and Managing Director Col Thein Maung of Myanma Textile Industries formally opened the centre. Then, the minister and guests toured the centre.
At the second session of the ceremony, Col Thein Maung explained that the sales centres have been opened with the aim of fulfilling the needs of the people and putting the products of the ministry on the market at fair prices. Afterwards, Col Phone Swe and a representative of the Union Solidarity and Development Association spoke words of thanks, Then, the minister delivered a speech. Later, Col Thein Maung donated K30,000 to Bago Division USDA, K 10,000 to Pyay Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association, K 10,000 to Pyay Township Committee for Women’s Affairs. Factory Manager Lt-Col Soe Hlaing of Shwedaung Textile and Finishing Plant donated K 350,000 for teaching aids to Basic Education High School in Shwedaung.
Winthuza Sales Centres have been opened in cities of Divisions and States in accordance with the guidance of the Head of State. More centres will be opened in Bago, Magway, Myitkyina, Monywa, Myingyan and Pyinmana townships. The good results of running these centres are that people can easily buy quality products at prevailing prices, the consumer goods, toiletries and medicines can be supplied to the people at fair prices and they serve as import substitute products.
The minister proceeded to Myanada Soft Drinks and Ice Factory of Myanma Foodstuff Industries in Pyay where he inspected the Beer Station, production of soft drinks, extended construction of the factory building and left instructions.
(6) Prizes presented to those who voted French team in Euro 2000
YANGON, 6 Aug-A ceremony to present prizes to those who rightly voted French team to be the winner of Euro 2000 Cup, was held at the Central Hotel this morning, attended by members of Board of Directors of Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd, Sales and Distribution Director Mr Anthony Wong, agents of London Cigarette, journalists, guests and prize winners.
It was sponsored by Rothmans of Pall Mall Myanmar Pte Ltd jointly run by UMEHL and Rothmans of Pall Mal} Myanmar Holdings Pte Ltd. Deputy Managing Director of RPMMPL Major Paw Khan extended greetings.
Then, Director Lt-Col Aung Myint Swe presented K 2 million each to two first prize winners U Myint Swe of Academy Watch Shop, the Market of Kyaungon, Ayeyawady Division and U Aung Thu of Shweyisi Street, Athoak, Ayeyawady Division, and officials presented 21inch colour TV set each to 20 second-prize winners.
(7) 37 Minbu (Sagu) Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON, 6 Aug-Thirty-seven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Minbu (Sagu) Township, Magway Division. Thirty-seven members of Minbu (Saku) Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Minbu (Saku) Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 11 May 2000 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
