(1) Aungmyebodi Dhamma Yeiktha Dhammacariya Tekkatho Alodawpyi Kyaungtaik holds Waso robe offering ceremonyYANGON, 14 July-The Upathaka Committee of Aungmyebodi Dhamma Yeiktha Dhammacanya Tekkatho Alodawpyi Kyaungtaik held its first Waso robe offering ceremony at Bodithukha Hall of the Kyaungtaik in Tamway Township this afternoon. It was attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen-Khin Nyunt. Also present at the ceremony were Sayadaws led by Vice-Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta
Sirindabhivamsa, Patron Sayadaw of the Kyaungtaik Maha Gandavacaka Pandita Maha Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta Ariyavamsa, ministers, the Chief of Staff (Air), the Secretary of Yangon City Development Committee, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, the chairman and members of the Upathaka Committee, well-wishers and guests.Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ariyavamsa administered the Eight Precepts. The Sayadaws recited Parittas. The Secretary-l, the ministers and the well-wishers presented Waso robes and offertories to the Sayadaws.
The well-wishers made donations to the trust fund for construction of Dhammacariya Tekkatho.Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee the Secretary-l presented K 500,000 for the trust fund to Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin. The minister presented a certificate of honour to the Secretary-l. The donations amounted to nearly K 4 million. Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sirindabhivamsa delivered a sermon. The congregation shared merits gained for the good deeds.
(2) Defence Services C-in-C's Shield Tatmadaw Karatedo Tournament ends
YANGON 14 July-The prize presentation ceremony for the Defence Services Commander-in-Chiefs Shield Ninth Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Karatedo Tournament was held at National Indoor
Stadium-l in Thuwunna this morning, attended by Chief of the Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.Senior military officers presented prizes to respective teams. On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Chief of Staff (Air) Maj-Gen Myint Swe presented championship shield to No 11 Light

(3) Foreign Affairs Minister pays goodwill visit to Russia, Yugoslavia, Belarus
YANGON, 14 July-At the invitation of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the respective countries, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar U Win Aung paid a goodwill visit to the Russian Federation, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Republic of Belarus from 3 to 12 July.
Minister U Win Aung stayed in Russian Federation from 3 to 5 July. The Minister called on Russian Foreign Minister Mr Igor Ivanov on 3 July at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation.
They discussed further development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and promotion of cooperation in various fields.
The two Foreign Ministers signed a Declaration on the basic principles of friendly relations between the two countries as well as the Agreement on exempting visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. On 4 July, he paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation Ilya Klibanov and discussed a wide range of bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.
Minister U Win Aung paid a visit to Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 5 to 9 July. The Minister paid a courtesy call on Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic on 6 July.
On the same day, Myanmar Foreign Minister was also received by Yugoslav Federal Prime Minister Mr Momir Bulatovic, Federal Defence Minister General Dragoljub Ojdanic, Federal Minister for Transport
Mr Dejan Drobnjakovic and Federal Minister for Foreign Trade Mr Borislav Vukovic on separate occasions. In his discussions with Yugoslav Foreign Minister Mr Zivadin Jovanovic, the two sides
paid special attention to further development of bilateral relations and economic cooperation. After the visit to Yugoslavia, Foreign Minister U Win Aung proceeded to the Republic of Belarus for an official visit from 10 to 12 July. The Minister called on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ural Latypov on 10 July. The Minister also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Mr Vladimir Ermoshin on 11 July.The Minister arrived back Yangon on 13 July evening.
(4) Minister receives Japanese Ambassador
YANGON, 14 July-Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone received Japanese Ambassador to the Union of Myanmar Mr Shigeru Tsumori at his office at 11 am today.
Also present at the call were Director-General of Directorate of Trade U Nyunt Aye, Director-General of Border Trade Department Col Nay Win, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading U
Min Hla Aung and officials.
(5) Minister for Cooperatives meets guests of Hong Kong, ROK
YANGON, 14 July-Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San met General Manager of Tat Wah Trading Co Mr Jason Liac from Hong Kong at his office at 2 pm today.
He also met General Manager of Hyewon International Inc Mr Marcelino Si Young Pang and party from the Republic of Korea at 3.30 pm today.
They discussed bilateral cooperation in cooperative work between Myanmar, Hong Kong and the Republic of Korea. Also present at the calls were directors-general and managing directors of the ministry.
(6) Minister meets President of Myanmar Anti-Narcotics Association
YANGON, 14 July- Chairman of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing met President of Myanmar Anti-Narcotics Association U Nay Win and party at his
office at 2 pm today.He gave instructions to them on extension of Anti-Narcotics Association and future tasks. Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, Director-General of General Administration Department U Aung Thein and officials of CCDAC.

(8) Joint Declaration on the principles of friendly relations between the Union of Myanmar and the Russian Federation
YANGON, 14 July-The following is the full text of the Joint Declaration issued by the Union of Myanmar and the Russian Federation in Moscow on 3rd July 2000.
1. The Union of Myanmar and the Russian Federation guided by traditional friendship and sympathy between the peoples of two countries are convinced of the necessity of further development of mutually
beneficial bilateral cooperation in different spheres based on mutual trust and adherence to values of freedom and justice. With that end in view the Parties are firmly resolved to consolidate the legal basis of their bilateral ties and bring it in line with political, economic and social realities of modern international life.2. The Parties are unanimous that strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries based on equality and mutual respect corresponds to the vital interests of their peoples, as well as to
maintenance of international peace, security and stability, establishment of atmosphere of mutual understanding, trust and mutually beneficial cooperation among all countries of the South-East Asia as well as Asia and Pacific region as a whole.3. The Parties will further maintain and develop relations of friendship and cooperation in accordance with principles of respect for sovereignty and independence, territorial integrity, non-interference into each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit as well as other universally recognized norms and principles of International Law.
The Parties will constructively cooperate on the international arena for promotion of international peace and security, prevention of armed conflicts and observance of norms and principles of International
Law. The Parties reconfirm their adherence to the process of disarmament and arms control, as well as to enhancing the regimes of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.4. Confirming their commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, the Parties will broaden cooperation in the framework of this world forum to increase its efficiency and
adaptation to new world realities as well as to strengthen the role of the United Nations in securing peaceful life conditions and enhancing guarantees of stability and security of the States. The Parties
will interact on the international arena with the purpose of forming a multipolar world based on equal partnership, inter-dependence and a global system of collective security envisaged in the United Nations Charter.To ensure international peace and security, the Parties will in every possible way promote the use of the United Nations mechanisms for prevention and settling of crisis situations and international conflicts, threatening a breach of peace.
The Parties will render comprehensive assistance to building up of the United Nations potential in solving the global issues and forming of a just world order and to development of cooperation among all States in political, economic, social, scientific, technological, ecological. humanitarian and other spheres.
The Parties will promote interaction between regional organizations and the United Nationals Organization in accordance with the United Nationals Charter.
5. The Parties will deepen and broaden dialogue on key issues of bilateral relations and international problems and will establish relevant mechanisms of consolidations.
The Parties will promote development and widening contacts and interaction at all levels including holding of regular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and encourage exchanges between social organizations of two countries.
6. The Parties will promote Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation as well as establishment of direct interaction and exchanges on a mutually beneficial basis between relevant bodies, organizations and departments of two countries in the sphere of education, mass-media, health, trade and investment, transfer of technology etc.
The Parties will also encourage direct ties between enterprises and organizations at a local level as well as contacts between people and take effective measures to create and strengthen a favourable base to
simulate investment and joint ventures in accordance with national legislation and international norms.7. While attaching a special importance to co-ordination of practical steps to secure a stable economic development of the States and balanced growth of the world economy as a whole, the Parties will deepen their interaction within international trade, economic and financial organizations and institutions, including regional ones with the purpose of effective development of both countries economies and strengthening of a system of multilateral trade and economic ties based on principles of equality and non-discrimination.
The Parties would assist each other in broadening ties and cooperation in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) with the purpose of strengthening mutual understanding and ensuring further prosperity in the Asia Pacific Region.
8. The Patties will promote efficiency of international efforts aimed at improvement and normalization of the world ecological situation taking into account the valid international regulations in this field. The
cooperation in this sphere will be realized through exchanges of information and transfer of know-how, as well as mutual consolidations.9. The Parties will cooperate in accordance with their international obligations in fight against crime, illegal traffic in drugs and psychotropic substances, international terrorism and illegal traffic in articles of special historical, scientific, artistic or cultural value, as well as transnational transfer of endangered special of animals and plants.
10. The Parties will encourage exchange of information aimed at promotion of securing observance of human rights in accordance with historical peculiarities as well as national cultures and traditions of
both countries and universal character of human rights and fundamental freedom.11. The Parties will promote establishment of contacts between institution and individual and representatives of culture, as well as development of exchanges in the spheres of culture, arts, education, mass-media, library and archive science, cinema, tourism and sports, studies of Russian
Language in the Union of Myanmar and Myanmar Language in the Russian Federation.Moscow, 3rd July 2000.

(9) Academic Prize Laureate of Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize Dr Than Tun honoured
YANGON 14 July-A ceremony to honour Dr Than Tun, Academic Prize Laureate of the 11th Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize for the Year 2000 was held at the International Business Centre on Pyay Road this
morning. It was attended by Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister for Culture U for Education Brig-Gen Soe
Win Maung and U Myo Nyunt, Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Shigeru Tsumori and embassy staff, members of Myanmar Historical Commission of department rectors and professors, researchers of
Universities Historical Research Department, guests and correspondents of foreign news agencies. Ms Uchino Tamiko of the Committee Office of Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize spoke about the city of Fukuoks and Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize.She said that Fukuoka is located north of Kyushu Island, its area is 338 square kilometers and the population is about 1.33 million having stood as a gateway for cultural exchange since olden days, Fukuoka has contributed greatly to the development of the cultural exchange sector between Japan and Asian countries; to continue to maintain this tradition, scholars and well-wishers have set up Fukuoka Cultural Prize; the aims are to make achievements in the fields of science, arts and culture of Asian countries known to the world, to reveal the richness of the culture of the region and to contribute to the maintaining of peace and promotion of mutual understanding; since 1990, Fukuoka Asian Culture Prizes
have been awarded yearly for three categories ? Grand Prize, Academic Prize and Arts and Culture Prize.Then, Secretary of Fukuoka Culture Prize Presenting Committee Mr Fukumoto Takayuki explained matters related to prizes. He said that the nomination committee comprising about 4,000 members from
55 countries chose 227 persons from 29 countries who are outstanding in the fields of research, education, arts and literature; finally, Asian Cultural Prize Presenting Committee selected Dr Than Tun as Academic Prize Laureate of the 11th Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize for the Year 2000. Afterwards, General Secretary Mr Fukumoto Takayuki presented the letter of awarding Fukuoka Culture Prize, to Dr Than Tun.Then, Minister for Education U Than Aung presented certificates of honour to the Fukuoka Asian Cultural Prize Award Committee and Dr Than Tun. Later, Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Shigeru Tsumori and Director-General Daw Ni Ni Myint of Universities Historical Research Department made speech.
Then, Academic Prize Laureate Professor Dr Than Tun spoke words of thanks.
He said that he was informed of being chosen as Academic Prize Laureate on 26 June; the Fukuoka prize will be of great benefits to his research work and he will continue to do more and more research.
Afterwards, Dr Than Tun replied to queries raised by those present.
(10) Voters of Myothit Township unanimously express no confidence in NLD and its representative-elect U Tha Aung, demand dissolving pessimist NLD
YANGON, 14 July- Voters from Myothit Township Constituency No 1, Magway Division, submitted petitions expressing no confidence in U Tha Aung who was elected as Pyithu Hluttaw Representative of National League for Democracy in the 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election from Myothit Township Constituency-l and no support for him, and submitted petitions expressing no confidence in NLD and demanded dissolving it at six rallies on 15 June.
A total of 13,112 people from 16 wards and village-tracts rallied in Myothit Township Sports Ground. On behalf of attendance s, farmer U Than Oo of Lebyin Ward expressed no confidence in U Tha Aung
of NLD and no support for him and no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it. Representatives of wards and Village tract presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Daw Aye Kyi Mar.Altogether 4,750 people from four village-tracts rallied at Laydaingsin Village.
On behalf of the people, farmer U Kyaw Than Lwin of Laydaingsin Village expressed no confidence in U Tha Aung of NLD and no support for him and no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it. Farmer U Than Lon of Laydaingsin Village, on be- half of voters of village- tracts, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Zan Khin Mahn.
Similarly, 7,500 people from 10 village tracts rallied at Myolulin Village. On behalf of the people, farmer U Moe Zaw of Myolulin Village expressed no confidence in U Tha Aung of NLD and no support for him
and no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it. Representatives of voters of Village tract presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General
Election Sub-commission U Nay Aung.Likewise, 8,945 people from seven village-tracts rallied at Dantdalunbin Village.
On behalf of the people, farmer Daw Tin Tin Nyo of Dantdalunbin Village ex pressed no confidence in U Tha Aung of NLD and no support for him and no sup- port for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it. Farmer U Soe Yin of Gwaygyi Village, on behalf of voters of village-tracts, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Than Aung.
Altogether 7,750 people- from five village-tracts rallied at Wagyi-aing Village.
On behalf of the people-, farmer U Aung Kyaw Myint of Wagyi-aing Village expressed no confidence in U Tha Aung of NLD and no support for him and no sup- port for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it. U Thein Naing of Wagyi-aing Village, on behalf of voters of village-tracts, presented petitions signed by the people- to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Hla Soe Myint.
A total of 7,895 people from five village-tracts rallied at Ningyan Village.
On behalf of the people, farmer U Than Sein of Ningyan Village expressed no confidence in U Tha Aung of NLD and no support for him and no support for pessimist NLD and demanded dissolving it. Farmer U Nyan Myint of Ningyan Village, on behalf of voters of Village tract, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission farmer U Kan Tin.
The ceremonies ended with changing of the slogan Our Three-Main National Causes.
There were 21,136 eligible voters in Myothit Township Constituency No 1 in 1990 Election. Of them, 13,798 or 65.28 per cent voted for U Tha Aung in the election. Out of 33,970 eligible voters in the township, the number of voters who presented signed petitions of no confidence in U Tha Aung totaled 33,543 or 98.74 per cent. There are 74,528 eligible voters in Myothit Town- ship. The number of voters who expressed no support for NLD and demanded dissolving it, is 71,460 people or 95.88 per cent.

(11) 6 Mandalay South-East Township NLD members resign of own accord
YANGON 14 July- Six members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Mandalay South-East Township, Mandalay Division
Six members of Mandalay South-East Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Mandalay South East Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 24 June 2000 as they no longer wished to participate m party politics of NLD.
