(1) State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe sends felicitations to  Venezuela

YANGON, 5 July-Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of  the  Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Hugo Chavez,  President of the  Republic of Venezuela, on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of  Venezuda which falls on  5 July 2000.


(2)  Aung Zeya Bridge, factories in Hlinethaya Industrial Zone

YANGON, 4 July -Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo went to Hlinethaya  Township this evening and inspected construction of a roundabout which is 150 feet in  diameter at the  junction of

Yangon-Pathein Highway and Nyaungdon Road. Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Myint  Secretary of  Yangon City Development Committee Col Myint Aung reported on construction of the roundabout.

The Secretary-2 inspected construction of 3 miles one furlong long and 48 feet wide approach road to Aung  Zeya Bridge. Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials of Road Construction Project
Special  Group-16 reported on progress of work.

The Secretary-2 inspected paving of the road section-wise, preparations for paving the road and gravel   collected.

The Secretary-2 inspected construction of approach road on Hlinethaya side and paving of the road.  The  Secretary-2 inspected flooring on the bridge and installation of steel cables. Superintending Engineer  (Project) of Public Works U Maung Aye and officials reported on progress of work.

The Secretary-2 cordially greeted service personnel engaged in the project.

The Secretary-2 and party went to Super One Coffeemix Factory of A and S Food Industry (Super One  Group)  on U Aung Thu Road in Hlinethaya Industrial Zone-2 where they were welcomed by Managing
Director Daw  San San Yi and officials. Officials report on storage of raw materials and production of  coffeemix sachets with  the use of modern machines. The Secretary-2 gave instruction on making efforts  for boosting production,  quality control and more export, fire preventive measure, welfare, cleanness of  the factory and its environs  and worksite safety.



(3) Minister meets Japanese visitors

YANGON, 4 July-Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein met Managing Director Mr S Kazama  and party of Daiwa Institute of Research, Japan at his office this morning. They cordially discussed bilateral  cooperation. Also present was Governor U Kyaw Kyaw Maung of General Bank of  Myanmar.

(4) Vice-President of UMFCCI leaves for Laos

YANGON, 4 July-A three member delegation led by Vice-President of Union of Myanmar Federation of  Chambers of Commerce and Industry U Win Aung left for Lao People's Democratic Republic at 10.20 am
today to attend Preparatory Meeting for GMS Business Forum to be held in Vientiane, LPDR, on 5-7  July.

The delegation comprises General Secretary U Zaw Min Win and Executive Officer U Myint Aung.  They were  seen off at the airport by Joint-Secretary Dr Myint Sein and officials.



(5)  Delegations arrive to attend ASEAN Forestry Affairs Meetings and Seminar

YANGON, 4 July-Officers of ASEAN Secretariat and delegations of ASEAN member nations arrived  here by air  this morning to attend ASEAN meetings and a seminar on forestry to be held in Myanmar.

They were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by officials of the Ministry of Forestry,

More delegations of Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Lao PDR and   Indonesia, UNCTAD, ITTO and FAO will arrive on 6 and 9 July to attend the meetings and the seminar.



(6)  Minister inspects river water pumping projects in ChaungU Myaung

YANGON, 4 July-Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, accompanied by officials, inspected  Pauk-in river water pumping construction project near Tawkyaunggyi Village, ChaungU Township, being built  by Water Resources Utilization Department, on 2 July.

Then, the minister met local farmers and gave instructions on cultivation of paddy and cotton and  assistance  of agricultural technique and equipment for special zone areas.

Afterwards, the minister inspected Twingyi river water pumping project which will supply water of  Chindwin  River to 10,000 acres of cultivated land near Pareinma Village, Myaung Township.

The minister and party also inspected digging of the feeder canal and small canals and progress in   construction tasks, and gave instructions on timely completion of the tasks.

(7)  Minister inspects preparations for conveying of marble image

YANGON, 4 July-Minister for Rail Transport U Pan Aung, accompanied by officials inspected  preparations for  conveying of marble image being carved near Sakyin village, Madaya Township,  Mandalay Division  yesterday.

The minister inspected installation of machinery, conveying route to the jetty, laying rails and  necessary  equipment and gave instructions.



(8) Computer Course 1/2000 of Ministry of Transport opened

YANGON 4 July-Computer Course 1/2000 of the Ministry of Transport was opened at the Myanma Shipyards  this morning.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Kyaw  Myint and U Pe Than and heads of department under the ministry. The minister spoke on the occasion and  inspected the computer room.

Then, the minister with deputy ministers inspected building of the 56-metre offshore support ship Java  Jold  for Java Marine Lines Pte Ltd of Singapore, repair work of the shipyard, building of a steel frame
for Htidaw of  Khaungphu Pagoda and gave instructions on timely completion of the work.



(9) 344th donation for Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON, 4 July-The 344th donation ceremony for Shwedagon Pagoda was held at ancient Buddha  images  Tazaung at the pagoda this afternoon.

A total of 236 well-wishers presented cash and gold plates worth K 15,356,961. Members of Pagoda Board  of Trustees and officials accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the well-
wishers.  After the ceremony, the congregation shared merits.

(10) Unisolar water heater donated to YCDC Golf Club

YANGON, 4 July-A ceremony to donate a unisolar water heater EFA 230 worth V300,000 to City Golf Club was  held at the Club House this afternoon.

At the ceremony, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay accepted the heater  donated by Chairman Mr Yoshiro Iwanaga of JJ Intentional Co Ltd, Japan and Director Mr Mitsuo Oka of  Tomiya Kyosan Co Ltd, Japan. The mayor presented certificates of honour and gifts to the donors. Then, Mr  Yoshiro Iwanaga explained purpose of the donations.



(11) Myanmar delegation arrives back from ROK

YANGON, 4 July-Under the arrangement of cultural exchange programme between ASEAN member nations  and the Republic of Korea, a three-member Myanmar cultural delegation comprising Acting
Director General  U Kyaw Win (Manoketha Kyaw Win) of Fine Arts Department, Deputy Professor U Myint Hlaing (Pyinmana  Myint Hlaing) of University of Culture and writer and script writer U Khin Maung Tint (Tekkatho Phone Naing)  arrived back here by air yesterday evening after visiting ROK.



(12) Minister inspects sports activities in Myitkyina

YANGON, 4 July-Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint.  accompanied by officials of the ministry. arrived at Myitkyina on 30 June and attended the  donation ceremony  for Township Sports and Education Combined Training School at Town Hall in Myitkyina. Minister Brig-Gen  Thura Aye Myint gave instructions on current Myanmar sports standard, endeavours under three plans for  development of Myanmar sports standard in accord with the motto. Myanmar Sport World to Conquer, and  the purpose of the donations of sports equipment The minister  cordially met the trainee.

(13) Illegal drug possessors get ten and five years

YANGON, 4 July-Members of Anti-drug Squad (Yangon Division) searched suspect Soe Latt (a) Putu, 27, of  Bahan Township in the General Hospital compound at 1.10 pm on S June 1999 and found 0.0030 kg of  marijuana on him.

Action was taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The Yangon  West District Court handed down ten years' imprisonment under Section 16 (C) on 31 May
2000 on him.

Similarly, members of Lashio Township Police Force, acting on information, raided the house of Aik Yee  30,  of Ward 8, Khattar Street, Lashio Township at 4 pm on 30 December 1998 and found 0.00018 kg of  heroin.  Action was taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.  The Lashio  Township Court handed down three years' imprisonment under Section 15 and five years'
imprisonment  under Section 16 (C) on 25 March 1999 on him to serve concurrently.



(14) Over 60,000 eligible voters of Myinmu Township unanimously petition for dissolving pessimist NLD

YANGON, 4 July-The people from Myinmu Township Constituencies No 1 and 2 expressed no support  for  pessimist National League for Democracy and petitioned for dissolving NLD at rallies held in
Myoma Station,  Aliquippa Station, TawchaungU Station and Gonnyinseik Station on 22 May morning.

A total of 3,600 people from four wards and 18 village-tracts attended the rally in Myinmu Station. On behalf of  attendance's, U San of Southern Ward expressed no support for pessimist NLD and petitioned
for dissolving  it. Farmer U Nyunt of Wanpyay Village, on behalf of people of wards and villages, presented petitions signed  by the people to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Township  Judge Daw Kyu Kyu San. The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan Our Three Main National Causes.  A together 6,000 people from 19 village-tracts attended the
rally at the sports ground of Basic Education High  School in Alakappa Village. On behalf of  attendance's, farmer U Kyaw Hlaing of Alakappa Village expressed  no support for pessimist NLD and  petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Mutta of Alakappa Village, on behalf  of people of wards and villages, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty  Democracy  General Election Sub- commission.

The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan Our Three Main National Causes. A similar rally was  at-  tended by 4,179 people from 21 village-tracts attended at the compound of Basic Education Middle
School in  TawchaungU Village. On behalf of attendance's, farmer U Maung Kho of Letpan Village expressed no  support for pessimist NLD and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Lon of TawchaungU Village, on behalf of  people of wards and villages, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission U San Lwin.

The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan Our Three Main National Causes. Likewise, 5,862  people  from 18 village-tracts attended the rally at Affiliate Basic Education Middle School in Kandaw
Village.

On behalf of attendance's, U Khin Maung Nyo of Kandaw Village expressed no support for pessimist NLD  and petitioned for dissolving it. Farmer U Kyaw Linn of Kandaw Village, on behalf of people of
wards and  villages, presented petitions signed by the people to member of Township Multiparty  Democracy General  Election Sub-commission Head of Township Immigration and National Registration  Department U Ba Thin.  The ceremony ended with chanting of the slogan Our Three Main National Causes. There are 61,304 people,  who can vote, in Myinmu Township Constituencies No I and 2. The  number of people, who expressed no  support for NLD and signed the petitions for dissolving it, is 60,092 people or 98 per cent.

38 members resign from Minbu (Sagu) Township NLD of own accord

YANGON, 4 July - Thirty eight members resigned of their own accord from the National League for Democracy  of Minbu (Sagu) Township, Magway Division.

Thirty eight members of Minbu (Sagu) Township NLD, resigned by sending letters of resignation to   Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the part-y concerned on 11 May
2000  as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
