(1)  Chairman  of the  State  Peace  and  Development  Council  Senior  General Than Shwe accepts  credentials of Ambassador of Japan

YANGON,  30  June-Chairman of  the  State  Peace  and Development  Council  of the  Union of   Myanmar  Senior General Than  Shwe accepted credentials of  the newly-accredited Ambassador of  Japan Mr Shigeru Tsumori at Dagon  Yeiktha of the  Ministry  of Defence at 10 am today.  Also present on the occasion  were  Secretary-l of the State Peace. and  Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,   Minister  for  Foreign  Affairs  U Win Aung and Director-General  U Thet  Win  of  the  Department  for Myanmar Missions Abroad.


(2)  Secretary-1 receives  Special  Envoy  of  UN Secretary-General

YANGON,  30  June-Secretary-l  of the  State  Peace and Development  Council  of the Union of   Myanmar | Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  received Mr Razali Ismail the Special Envoy of the  Secretary-General  of the  United  Nations  and party,  currently  here, and party at the  Ministry  of Defence at 4 pm today.

Also present were  Minister  for Foreign  Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy Minister U  Khin Maung Win  and Director-General  U Thet  Win  of  the  Department  for Myanmar Missions Abroad.


(3)  Secretary-2 receives foreign visitors

YANGON,  30  June-Secretary-2  of the  State  Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo met  visiting Manager, Senior  Engineer Mr Liu Beizhi of China  National Heavy Machinery  Corporation  and  party  at the new  hall of Ministry  of Defence at 8 am  today.  Also  present  were Minister at Prime  Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lung Maung and  officials.  They  discussed  matters  relating  to sugar
production.


(4) MoU for  cooperation  between  Ministry or Sports and  National Sports Committee of LPDR signed

YANGON 30 June-A  ceremony  to sign the  memorandum  of understanding  for cooperation  between  the Ministry of Sports of the  Union of  Myanmar  and  National  Sports Committee of Lao People's
Democratic  Republic was held at Padamya  Hall of the  National  Indoor  Stadium 1 in Thuwunna  this  morning.  Present on the occasion  were Chairman  of Myanmar  Olympic  Committee  Minister  for
Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint,  Secretary-General  of MOC  Director-General  Col  Thaung  Htaik of  Sports and Physical Education Department,  officials, President of National Sports Committee of Laos
and National  Olympic Committee of Laos Dr Phouthong Seng Akhom.

Ambassador  of Lao PDR Mr Ly  Bounkham  and  officials. After signing the MoU, Minister Brig-Gen  Thura Aye Myint and Dr Phouthong Seng Akhom exchanged the documents and had the documentary  photo taken.

Next, the minister and party saw off the  President  of National Sports Committee of Laos and National   Olympic Committee  of Laos and  party at  Yangon  International Airport this morning.


(5) Minister meets Thai visitors

YANGON, 30 June-Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin met Project -  Directors  Mr  Sommai  Chandhorn and Mr John Lee and Operation  Director Mr Mickey Heart of Green Paradise
Holding Co Ltd, Thailand, at his office at 11 am today.  They  discussed  matters  relating  to construction of a hotel at Maungmagan beach Dawei.

Also present were Managing Director U Kyi Tun of Myanma Hotels and Tourism Services and officials.


(6) Secretary-1 inspects  Gandakuditaik and route for conveying marble image

YANGON,  30  June-Secretary-l  of the  State  Peace and Development  Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,   accompanied by officials  of the State Peace and  Development  Council Office,  arrived at Mindhamma Hill in Insein  Township, Yangon Division, at 5.30 Dm today.  Officials  reported to  the  Secretary-l  on   the  driving  of  stakes  for Gandakuditaik  where the marble image is to be kept and arrangements  for construction  of  stairways.  Chief Engineer of Public Works U Aung Kyee Myint  reported to the  Secretary-l on the scale model of the Gandakuditaik where the marble image is, to be kept.

Then.  Secretary-1 Lt Gen Khin Nyunt  attended to their needs.  The  Secretary-  1 and party  arrived at  Gyogon raft-jetty  where the barge  carrying  the marble image will be moored.  Minister  for  Transport
Maj-Gen  Hla Myint Swe and officials  reported to the Secretary- 1 on the arrangements.  Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin  Nyunt fulfilled  their  needs.  The  Secretary-l and  party inspected the construction of the route along which the marble image will be conveyed from Gyogon raft-jetty to Mindhamma  Hill.

Deputy  Minister  for  Rail Transportation  Thura U Thaung Lwin reported on matters related to the  route.  The  Secretary-l  fulfilled  the requirements and left there.


(7) Commander inspects regional development tasks and agricultural work in Hmawby

YANGON,  30  June- Member  of  the  State  Peace  and Development  Council  Chairman of Yangon  Division Peace and  Development  Council  Commander of Yangon  Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung
Than met with departmental officials in  Taikkyi  and  Hmawby townships  of  Yangon  north district and inspected  regional  development tasks and agricultural matters this morning.

The commander arrived at the office of Taikkyi Township Peace and Development Council at 10 am.

On arrival there, he was welcomed by Chairman of Yangon North District Peace and Development  Council Lt-Col San Matu and  township-level  departmental  officials.  The commander  met  with  the
departmental  officials  and members of Ward Peace and  Development  Council  in the meeting hall of Taikkyi  Township Peace and Development Council.  The  commander  said that the  purpose of his visit to the region  was to attend to the  requirements of regional development tasks and agricultural matters.

Afterward, the commander  inspected the construction of the  embankment  at  the  Carter  and  cultivation  of vegetables and left instruction.


(8 )  Coordination  meeting  held  for  10th  Defence Services  (Army,  Navy and Air)  Military Band  Competition

YANGON, 30 June-A coordination meeting to hold the 10th Defence  Services  (Army, Navy and Air)   Military  Band Competition in commemoration  of the 56th  .Anniversary Armed  Forces Day in Year
2001 was held at the  library of the Guard of Honour and Military Band Unit in Hmawby Township  at 3.15 pm  today,  attended  by  Patrons  of Leading Committee for the Organizing Competitions Chief of  Bureau  of  Special  Operations  and  Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Speaking on the occasion,  Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo said that the military  band   competitions  have been  held  since  1992;  and the  10th  military  band competition  will be held in  2001, he said.  The number of  participating  band teams will be  increase  in the 10th  competition;  so also  their  qualifications  are improving  as the  numbers  are  increasing  year after year,  he  said.  Then,   Patron  of  Leading  Committee Commander  of Yangon  Command  Maj-Gen  Khin Maung Than presented  suggestions on holding the 10th  competition successfully.  Afterward,  the meeting Chief of  staff (Army) Lt-  Gen  Tin Oo  inspected  musical  instrument being used in Guard of Honour and State Military  Band.


(9)  Central Body Meeting  of  MWJA concludes  successfully

YANGON, 30  June-The  Central  Body  Meeting of Myanmar Writers and Journalists  Association   continued for the second  and final  day and  successfully  concluded  in Pyidaungsu Hall at  Kyaikkasan  Grounds this  afternoon. It was attended by Minister  for  Information  Brig-Gen Kyi Aung, Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein,  Deputy Minister  for  Culture  U  Soe  Nyunt,  Chairman of Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association U Hla Myaing (Ko  Hsaung)  and  members
of the  Central Executive  Committee,  delegates  to  the  meeting  and observers.  Then, the session adjourned for a while and resumed at 2.10 pm.  Decisions  were made and  approval was sought.  The   delegations of states and division to the  meeting  signed in the record  book.  Chairman  of MWJA U Hla  Myaing  (Ko  Hsaung ) made  a  concluding speech, and the slogans were chanted, which brought  the meeting to a close.


(10) Minister receives ROK voluntary group

YANGON 30  June-Minister  for Religious  Affairs U Aung Khin received a 23  member  Chasarum   voluntary  group of Dongook  University of Republic of Korea led by Ven Mok Tak at his office this
afternoon.

Also present at the call were the  directors-general of the Religious Affairs Department and the  Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana, the Pro-Rector (Admin) of Intentional   Theravada  Buddhist  Missionary University  and the head of  office.  After  the  call. the  group
donated  15  sets  of  computer  to  State Pariyatti  Sasana  University  (Yangon).  The group, at the  invitation of the  Department  for  Promotion  and Propagation  of the  Sasana,  arrived .  at Yangon  and
gave  medical  treatment  to  the  Sangha  Maha  Nayaka Sayadaws  and the  Sayadaws of State  Pariyatti   Sasana University  (Yangon).  Besides, they gave a training on basic  computer  skill to the  members of  the Sangha of State Pariyatti Sasana University (Yangon).


(11) Minister inspects warehouses

YANGON, 30 June  -Minister  for Commerce  Brig-Gen  Pyi Sone  inspected  warehouses  of  the  freight   handling division 2 of Myanma Agricultural  Produce Trading this morning.

Accompanied by Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading U Min Hla Aung, the  minister arrived at the division.  The minister looked around the division, urging  officials to   systematically  store paddy, rice and other crops at the warehouses, to ensure sanitation at the warehouses, to take fire preventive measures, to apply  effective  means in  reducing  wastage,  to make  proper security arrangements and to green the environs. At his meeting with  officials,  the minister   stressed the need to work with system and goodwill.


(12) Minister for Culture attends opening of computer  courses

YANGON, 30 June-A  ceremony  to open  Computer  Graphic Course and Basic Computer  Application   Course, jointly conducted by the University of Culture  (Yangon), Human Resources Development
Department, Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture and Forever  Group, was held at the university in Dagon Myothit South  township this afternoon.  Minister  for  Culture U Win Sein  attended the ceremony.

The  minister  spoke  of the  purpose  of  opening  the courses  and added The  minister  formally  opened the courses and inspected  the training  halls.  Altogether 321 trainees are attending the three- month course.


(13) Voters of eight townships in Ayeyawady  Division  unanimously petition for dissolving NLD

YANGON, 30 June - he people  from  eight  townships  in Ayeyawadydy Division unanimously  petitioned for dissolving  National  League  for  Democracy  at  eight venues  in  the  division  on 18
May.  In  Kangyidaunt Township, U Win Shwe of Myothit Ward tabled a motion on dissolving NLD.  Representatives of  local people seconded the motion.

There  are  117,928 eligible  voters  in  Kangyidaunt Township.  The number of  people,  who  petitioned   for dissolving NLD, is 91,396 people or 77.50 per cent.  In Kyonpyaw  Township,  horticulturist  Mahn Hla  Shein of Thabawyoe  Village  tabled a motion on dissolving  NLD. Representatives  of local people  seconded  the motion. There are 16 1,449  people,  who can vote, in  Kyonpyaw Township.  The number
of people, who demanded dissolving NLD, is 91,396 people or 77.50 per cent.

In Kyonpyaw Township,  horticulturist Mahn Hla Shein of Thabawyoe-Village tabled a motion calling  for dissolving NLD.  Representatives of  local people seconded the motion.  There are 161,449 people, who can vote, in Kyonpyaw  Township.  The number of people, who demanded dissolving NLD, is  132,924 people or 82.33 per cent.

In  Yekyi  Township,  agriculturist  U  Myint  Sein  of Gwedauk  Village tabled a motion calling for  dissolving NLD.  Representatives  of  local  people  seconded  the motion.  There are  149,068  people   who can  vote.  in Yekyi  Township.  The number of  people,  who  demanded dissolving NLD, is 106,060 people or 71.15 per cent.

In Myanaung Township,  merchant Daw Nyunt Nyunt Shwe of Nyaungmyitswe  Village  tabled  a   motion  calling  for dissolving NLD.  Representatives of  local people seconded the motion.  There are
173,671 people, who can vote, in Myanaung  Township.  The number of people, who demanded dissolving NLD, is 117,243 people or 67.51 per cent.

In  Mawlamyinegyun  Township,  U  Myint  Swe of  Ward 6 tabled a motion calling for dissolving NLD.  Representatives  of local people  seconded  the motion. There are 168,110 people, who are elgibile to vote, in  Mawlamyinegyun  Township.  The number of people,  who  demanded  dissolving  NLD, is  121,322 people  or  72.17  per  cent.  In  Pantanaw Township, merchant  U Aung Gyi of  Central   Ward  tabled a motion calling for dissolving  NLD.  Representatives  of local people seconded the motion.  There are 147,865  people, who can  vote, in  Pantanaw  Township.  The  number  of people,  who demanded  dissolving NLD, is 123.281 people or 83.37 per cent.

In Danugyu  Township,  U Aye  Hlaing of Ward 8 tabled a motion calling for dissolving NLD.   Representatives  of local  people  seconded  the motion.  There are 130,415 people, who can vote, in  Danubyu  Township.  The number of  people,  who  demanded  dissolving  NLD, is  98,798 people or 75.76 per cent.

In  Kyaiklat  Township,  U Tin  Htay of  Tonhle  Ahtani Village  tabled a motion  calling for  dissolving   NLD. Representatives  of local people  seconded  the motion. There are  109,563  people,  who can vote,
in  Kyaiklat Township.  The number of people, who demanded dissolving NLD, is 86,169 people or 78.65  per cent.

In  Ayeyawady  Division,  a total of  877,193  eligible voters - of 678 wards and Village tract at eight  rallies in eight townships unanimously demanded dissolving NLD.


(14)  154  North  Okkalapa Township  N1D  members collectively resign of own accord

YANGON,  30 June-A  ceremony  to  collectively  present letters of resignation of 154 members of North  Okkalapa Township National League  for Democracy, Yangon Division, was held at the office of
Township Multiparty Democracy General Election  Sub-commission  at 10.25 am on 28 June 2000.  One hundred and fifty-four members of North Okkalapa  Township NLD, Yangon Division, of their own
accord,  resigned by sending letters of resignation to the I party concerned and then to the North Okkalapa Township Multiparty  Democracy General Election Sub-commission on 28 June 2000 as they
no longer wished to  participate  in party  politics of NLD. joint-Secretary of Township NLD U Win Kyi and Executive of  Township  NLD U  Nyana,  on  behalf  of the  party members, explained about the
resignation from the party and handed over the letters of resignation  to Chairman of  Township  Multiparty Democracy  General  Election Sub-commission U Myint Swe.
